I am receiving numerous messages from people on Roomster offering rooms at very low rates, and requesting payment without showing the unit in person or via video tour, and without contract paperwork. I believe them to be fraudulent.
I see a lot of people complaining that Roomster "tricked" them by charging them $30 after their 3-day trial, but it clearly states that you have to cancel your subscription once it ends to avoid future charges. I feel pretty bad for the bad rep this company has. I don't think they are trying to con you at all. Btw, Roomster isn't the only company to do auto-renewal post trial. I know from experience. It sucks being caught-off guard, but if you're smart, you won't let it happen to you again. I know I'll be cancelling on time.
Anyway, I think it's important for someone to read this. Don't trust Craigslist links and if you are doubting whether a post is real, contact the person through Facebook if they offer it. You might even have mutual friends! Good luck.
Roomster is a great alternative to other sites that don't offer half the functionality or ease-of-use that this size does. They do a very good job of giving you relevant information and easy access to their resources
My boyfriend and I were living together until recently we went through a pretty bad breakup. I started asking friends of mine if they knew of anybody looking for roommates and one of them suggested I try Roomster. At first I was skeptical to find a stranger as a roommate online but my friend said he used it before with solid results so I decided to give it a shot. At first glance the site is clean and has a pretty easily navigable interface and before long I was sending messages back and forth with a few people who had some really nice rooms listed. I settled on a nice clean room in a good area and the rent was super affordable.
I've been living on campus at my college for the last two years but decided to try and find a nice place off campus for the semester. Using Roomster I found a super affordable room to share with some really cool people. Very happy I made that decision
I required a room then my friend told me about Roomster but i was hesitating. But when i got my room within 10 days all of my hesitation are gone. I found the site to be easy to use and straight forward. If you need Rooms you can go without any hesitation. I recommend this all time.
After my son left for college my wife and I used Roomster to rent out his room while he was away. I am not too tech savvy but their site was intuitive and we found a nice young lady to rent the room from us fairly easily. Very pleasant experience.
It's a clunky interface, no info on down-payment required as an entry field on listings. Can't msg anyone without subscribing to an AUTO renewal. And it's a monthly renewal by default no matter what you sign up for. Cash grab right off the bat. Value doesn't seem to match cost
I always support Roomster.com because when I needed any room then I took it from Roomster.com within 2 weeks according to my choice. I found the site to be easy to use and straight forward. So I can say that Roomster is best.
I signed up for a 7 day trial period and had to pay for that to even try the service which probably should have been a red flag ($11.99). During that trial period they had servers down so the site was non-functioning for part of this trial. In addition, I never had responses to any of the inquiries made about rooms listed. This morning I received notice I was charged for the full book amount for the service (same day I had noted on my calendar that I needed to cancel by). I emailed asking for a refund on that charge of $29.99 (and describing my experience) and was refused - I told it was not their policy to make any exceptions, even when the experience of the customer is negative --- and their own site/servers had issues. I understand. I also think it is worth warning others about this so this is what I wanted to do here. This "service" had no value, was a waste of time and money. I paid over $40 in total in less than 8 days. It's not about the money as much as the principle involved.
Prices are too high for such a low amount of access time - 5 days. The free version is not really functional since you can't send or receive messages. I would prefer a lower price with advertisements. Thank you for reviewing my feedback.
Feels a bit dodgy. Spend all this time making an account and listing then pay us to see any results. Wish I had known up front. Apparently I have 17 messages from people. Payed the 5 days to see if they're legit.
Doesn't even deserve a one star. Emailed over 150 people 24 hours ago, with zero response. Paid for 3 day membership via paypal. Went to paypal, said it expired in FEB. Liars. Fakes. Frauds. Stay Away!
Roomster crashes constantly on iphone OS 8. 1. 3. Every time you look a a listing you have to reset the search filters from scratch, start from listing 1, and reload them again and again. That gets irritating real fast. The map doesn't hold search terms either. It's an amazing time-suck. Roomster doesn't work at all on my Apple desktop. I was lured into roomster by a fake Craigslist posting to redirect traffic. Super shady- like one of those sex slave rings which lures people on the internet as featured on 20/20. Apartment hunting is time consuming and tedious. I don't need to be jacked around. Roomster = not cool.
I came home one late afternoon to my dorm room in South Quad at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. My roommate Scott had a buddy of his over. The turntable was playing the Stones album, “Some Girls” at full volume. I noticed that my roommate was wearing my Levis because, as he said, “he liked them.” They also had both dropped some acid and were completely obliterated on that plus whatever else they had been taking. Also, this roommate used to like to eat Hostess Fruit Pies and place the half eaten ones on my books. I could go on but won’t. Needless to say I found a new place to live off campus. Found a good deal on a place through Roomster.com. I was actually surprised how many affordable options they had available. Would highly recommend.
This site is a shame. First - when you are interested in a rental on Craigslist you immediately get texts messages insisting you log onto Roomster. Gotten text from a few different number and all are in broke. English - and never respond back with any real information. As other rulers have mention - the site barely works (Facebook log-in is NOT hard to implement). If I had to guess - these are some quasi-criminal types operating out of Eastern Europe or something. They need to be reported to some authority.
I used Roomster about two months ago to rent a room after I left my previous living situation. Their prices were relatively affordable; anyone serious about finding a place will have no problem with their subscription rates. The listings they have are pretty varied in terms of area, quality and price.

I know a lot of people already said this but I'll say it just one more time, Stay away form this site!, unless you want to be ripped off. If you already been a victim make sure you cancel your card so they can't take anymore money from u!
Same as most of the other reviewers. Found a $30 charge on my account MINUTES after my original 3-day subscription ended. Does not refer to the smaller subscriptions as "trials," which is what they are. Terrible customer service, they honestly don't care about their customers at all. I'm enraged and ready to spread the word about this scam.

Answer: These are untrue statements. We have asked our many satisfied customers to post their positive experiences about Roomster to counteract the negative, and mostly untrue statements posted about us. If you notice that Sitejabber has negative reviews of almost every company doing business in the united states. If it was all true, there would be no business left and everyone would be out of work. People never write good reviews, people love to be negative. Its sad.
Answer: Hi Aminah, Roomster did not post that ad on Craigslist, we did not create that link and there fore we can not offer support for it. This looks to be one of our affiliates, who should not be doing this. We will be removing this person from our affiliate program. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Answer: That makes little to no sense. Undeleted? What does that even mean? N you want to create an account after you deleted it? Go ahead.

Roomster has a rating of 2.2 stars from 4,115 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Roomster most frequently mention customer service, credit card and read messages. Roomster ranks 2nd among Roommate sites.
I think this review like many on here are from the same person. Its ridiculous. Roomster corp is a US corporation with headquarters in New York City. We have an affiliate program, that allows anyone who want to promote Roomster a great way to make money. We do not have control over what every affiliate is doing and although we do the best to keep an eye on their activities, we can not police every affiliate, but when one is posting or spamming, and it is reported to us, we take swift action, removing their accounts, and with hold their earnings. As far as the site, goes we do have Facebook login, and it seems to work as intended, as I have just tested it. Why all the negativity?
