I received a Legacybox as a Christmas gift from my daughter and son in law. I was excited to finally get my
Old 8mm movies, and a few VHS tapes digitized. I gathered everything together - I spliced 6 small reels of
My precious 8mm movies onto one large reel, and sent the remaining 17 small reels as well as a few
Super8, and VHS. My gift included "Holiday Priority Processing" - 5 day turnaround, instead of the normal 5-6 weeks. When I tracked the order it showed "being checked in" for a week. Long story a little
Bit shorter, I was given the run a round, told lies - I asked to have someone in senior management contact me, they have not. I get notice that my processing is completed, and I can view them online.
The first one I viewed, the digitized version is so dark it is almost impossible to recognize anyone even in
Outside scenes - I viewed these when I was splicing them, and they were NOT dark, except for the very
First few minutes of my wedding film, shot inside with no light - the rest was easily viewable from my
Original 8mm film. What kind of quality control, if any, do they have? I contacted customer service yesterday and told them - they sent me a label to return the films needing attention - my films were still
There - I told them that. They ignored me. This morning I received notice that my films/videos were shipped and will arrive next Wed.
What kind of an operation are these people running?
They talk a good game, but the results at this point, are less than satisfactory.
It is extremely disappointing that you cannot get to speak to anyone in a management position.
I would check out other services that perform this service.
This was the easiest thing I've ever done. The results were great and now I have dozens of VHS tapes transferred safely and forever to digital
I was a farmers wife and enjoyed the farm life and especially the animals. I wanted to be a vet and this was the closest I could get. I did plenty of vet work on the farm. Delivering calves, foals, puppies, kittens, goats' sewing up cuts, teaching animals not to fear people and so much more. I was given the opportunity to share animal births with children, with their parents willing participation.
There is so much to farming besides shoveling animal poo. Some is fun, some sad when an animal has to be disposed of for it's relief from pain. We raised meat animals and that too was something one had to learn to accept as farm life. It's not easy.
We sold goat milk to parents of children that couldn't survive on anything else including formula. The Hospital sent parents to the farm to see how we kept our animals and see how clean they were kept.
It was hard work and 24/7. Week ends spent shoveling out pens. Summer spent putting in hay and getting ready for winter. The fall was time for putting meat in the freezer. We raised our own chickens, pork, beef, and shevon, turkeys. We put venesin in the freezer and canned it too.
Most of these things ore on film. I can look back and remember it all as well as relive it all.
Thank you for the good work. I still haven't looked at all of them yet. Jean Eimers
They lost my box with 10 of the most precious memories. Memories from 1998 my wedding, kids birth and birthdays. Please be aware
Thanks to legacy I am now able to see memories from as far back as 46 years ago. They did a great job.
Hi Patricia!
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us! We're pleased to hear that you are enjoying revisiting those memories!
Seemed to take forever to get the pics back. Pictures turned out real clear and bright colors. Very satisfied with the end results.
I purchased the transfer of 20 films for $160 by Legacybox.com through Morningsave.com. The delivery and communication by Legacybox was good, but the quality of the digitizing was terrible. I received a notice shortly after the work began that some of the media was a different format, however all were the same these must have been too much trouble. My films were from the 60's through 80's and i expected some grainy effects or darkening but was i received back was just an obvious lack of concern for quality. They were out of focus, poorly lit with what seemed little to no adjustment for anything. Some of the films were not even transferred in there entirety. Had I not already digitized these films at home with simple equipment I would not have known how badly these were done. I had hoped with Legacybox advertised professional equipment they would make my films look much better than I had. This was not the case. I did contact them and Jessi at Legacybox offered to redo the digitizing which I declined for fear of reprisal and damage to these priceless memories for having complained. I told them if they desired to give me a refund that would be fine or I would just write it off as a life lesson. I understand occasional mistakes by a company BUT, The next response I got basically said I had purchased through Morningsave and they were responsible for the refund. I have to wonder if this same lack of ownership at Legacybox doesn't exist in those doing the digitization? I am sure the purchase price was passed through to Legacybox but now they want someone else to pay for the poor quality work. Amazing! This is why my recommendation is to look elsewhere for digitization of your precious memories.
I have to say, although Legacy Box does not claim to produce better quality videos than you've had before, I was very unimpressed with the video files I received back. I waited over two months for my videos to arrive (no big deal) and it was a huge disappointment when they were finally delivered. For a company that boasts having all the latest technology in preserving videos, the copies of my videos were not any better than if I were to get a VHS player and watch them at home myself. In fact, I feel like the copies were the same as watching on a VHS player if not a little worse, and the volume level is unacceptable! Mind you, all of my VHS videos are from the mid to late 90's, yet all of the videos came back marked "this item has existing damage". Once again, I know they do not claim that they will restore your videos, but then again what is the point of claiming that you have the best technology and all these facilities to convert your videos. I cannot even imagine what you would receive back if you had any videos that were any later than The 1990's. Videos from the 80's? Good luck! Also, it would be very helpful if you received some sort of master list invoice of the status of the videos you sent in, instead of just getting a box with a bunch of tapes labeled "this item has existing damage". Legacybox sends files via Google Drive (weird) and I had several videos that could not be opened in this application. I had to reach out to Legacybox to get support on how to properly view/download the files. If you are charging for a premium service and then providing a product that cannot be enjoyed directly in the package they send back to you, what is the point. The customer service was good in troubleshooting the files, but it seems like not being able to open the files via Google Drive is a reoccurring problem on their end. So figure out a different way to send the files! Save your money and the hope for your videos and just buy a VHS player yourself. Seriously!
Hi Nicholas,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback! We take this very seriously as we are always striving to find new ways to improve to provide the best experiences possible. I do apologize you were having issues with navigating through google drive but I'm glad to hear our customer service team was able to troubleshoot this with you. Sometimes the files are too large to play via googles parameters so they just need to be downloaded first. Google may change their parameters one day in order to accommodate larger files, but at this time, they just need to be downloaded. This is a safety feature for you! Please reach out to our customer service team if there is anything else we can help you with in the future!
Company did everything they said they would just as described on their website. Simple. Very pleased.
Hi, Charles! Thank you so much for your kind words! I am so glad that you enjoyed working with your Digitizing Kit and reliving those memories. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thank you!
Great way to preserve those memories that you want to pass on to your nearest and dearest.
They walk you through each and every step.
Wonderful!
I purchased a LARGE order to be converted November 28 2021, and it is March 28 2022 and I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE ENTIRE ORDER. I call customer service to ask if there is something that can be done because not only have I not received my full order, but some of the videos I sent were digitized even tho they deemed them to be poor quality. If the video is poor quality I would've appreciated a heads up and maybe a different solution such as me sending in a replacement video, why would I want something that can't be converted properly? I am in the process of disputing the charge with my credit card company if the company does not give me an update on when exactly I should be receiving my package, and with the BBB because this is ridiculous. When I originally ordered they said 8 weeks due to the holiday season, at this point since November 28 2021, a total of 4months have passed and still NOTHING. You ask them for some sort of compensation or discount on the money you spent and the answer from them is MUTE.
The reproduction of our wedding 8 mm movie taken 60 years ago was great. I am so pleased with the quality of the DVD version. Thank you.
I'm so happy with all of my films we're downloaded with excellent care and to my perfection. No doubt legacy box is the only way to go
They were amazing in converting my videos to a USB drive! Very thankful for their quick & safe handling of my videos!
Hi Barbara! Thank you SO much for your kind words and feedback! Please let us know if you need anything.
They should have been honest upfront and stated they couldn't handle the order.I won't use them again

I decided to try legacybox after seeing reviews, marketing and some research. I sent my 8 and 16 mm film and requested enough media to give to my siblings as a surprise. After receiving my product I put the thumbd drive in my computer and hear no sound. Thinking that it may be my error I put a dvd in and again heard no sound on media that Iknow has recorded sound. I contacted them by email and received a quick response. I was informed that because 99% of the 8mm and 16mm film has no sound recorded on it they do not have equipment to transfer sound from the 1% they receive. I was also sent a link that showed me that this policy was listed on their website. In appreciating their point of view and "experience" I then asked if I may return their product for a refund. I was told (in spite of it ALSO being listed on their webstite) that although the product was unsatisfactory that a refund was not possible. I am dissatisfied that this fact is not more prevalent in their marketing but I suppose that if it were they may not receive a few request for service.
Hello Tim! We always want to make sure that you're satisfied and happy with your experience with us. We would love the opportunity to make this right. We've tried reaching out to talk through potential solutions. When you have a minute, please reach out to us at questions@legacybox.com or call us at 800-797-8210 so we can discuss. We're sure we can find a great solution!
Thanks for the opportunity to voice my udder dissatisfaction with this company. I'm a professional photographer and an author and I personally have done quite a bit of digitizing on my own over the years. Having sent 8 mm films and color slides to these people, what I received back was a mess. I can't even understand how they could have done such a poor job. The framing in the digitized videos was changed from the originals. It was like changing the zoom factor by two or more. Many cut off heads and disproportional frames. Not sure how they managed that but I have my ideas and it boils down to poor craftsmanship and not checking their settings before executing the copy.
Then there is the quality. I understand garbage in-garbage out, but as I sit here in my living room watching the actual film on my dads old projector with my digital copy running side by side, all I can say is these people are hacks. They have no talent in what they are doing at all.
Let me add that I have personally digitized thousands of color slides in my time. It's a very simple process - you set parameters, scan, and then save as some form of digital photo file (.jpg) then you can edit in Photoshop. For some reason (they didn't give one) they were unable to digitize my color slides. Perfect condition color slides and they can't handle it. Very, very lame. I should think this would be one of the cornerstones of their business.
Overall they just don't have a rating low enough for these people to qualify and after going all around the web looking at comments and reviews, I'm wondering why I ever used them in the first place. This is a good example of "Haste makes waste" on my part. Now I have to find someone else to do their job for them and pay twice.
The Legacybox process was easy to follow and the end product provides us with up to date technology for storage and protection of our memories.
It was pretty fast. I was happy with the results.
Christmas gifts for my family. I am sure they will like this. Memories for generations.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Legacybox has a rating of 2.7 stars from 820 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Legacybox most frequently mention customer service, thumb drive and poor quality. Legacybox ranks 5th among Video Converter sites.
Hi Richard, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I know you've already spoken to customer service and I wholeheartedly apologize for any confusion. When. You received your digital files via email, your order had already been "packed for shipping" This means that your order, among hundreds of others had already been packed onto the shipping truck and at that point it is not possible or feasible to locate the order. I do apologize for the inconvenience. Once you receive your order back, you are all set to send it back to use for reprocessing to try to get a better capture for you. While we do perform a 1:1 transfer and do not offer editing or enhancements, if your original film is in better condition than the digital files you received back we would be more than happy to get this corrected for you. Again, I apologize for any misconception regarding speaking to a manager, the customer service agent you were speaking with sought supervisor approval to set up the return for you.
