The 16 letter password requiers you to set a passphrase and not a code
So either my password is invalid because it is not a phrase
Or the password wont be accepted due to "words that are too commonly used"
I then tried to use an AI generator and Lorem Ipsum to try and mitigate this and it did not work
Long passwords are proven to be ineffective anyway, and AI can test multiple lengths simultaneously, making the long password an obstacle for only the user
Ineffective site that favors "appearance" over functionality 1/10

I tried to cancel my subscription months ago, as I was never using it (relevant opportunities were rarely, if ever, posted). I got the whole "we're sorry to see you cancel" page, only to see a charge on my account today of $119.

Basically, I like Backstage. It does what it is meant to do to help actors search for projects. However, the only way to get human help is either writing an email for which they give you a form to submit or use the chat feature for texting. Well, I needed help for an issue, so I emailed them first. Never heard back.
So, I used the chat feature which would have been a lot easier if I had the opportunity to speak to a live agent over the phone. I finally got an answer to help me, but it was very frustrating to get via text messaging. I hate when companies won't assign real live agents to help people via telephone.

Toxic

The most toxic and disrespectful staff in the history of customer service. Have had to deal with them about a dozen times over 10 years and have never had a positive interaction. They act personally victimized and turn emotionally abusive if you have the audacity to point out any technical glitch, no matter how much you're paying them for this service. This is consistent with every single individual at the company I've spoken to.

I enjoyed browsing acting opportunities that earn extra cash. However, most of them are for people who are professional actors or student. It is advised to have advanced equipment for most roles available like recording and camera equipment.

Loads of castings forprofessionals or amateurs

Whether you're a seasoned talent or trying to get a foot in, there are all sorts of castings for all types of talents or staff. The platform is easy to use and the navigation is easy.

The search could use more filter to better narrow down searches/results.

Backstage is an excellent value. I say this not only for vetting the potential acting/modeling opportunities out there, but also the customer support. When you have a question, they respond very promptly and helpfully. There are a lot of scams out there. Ones even including emails saying they found you through backstage when they are working a scam. Backstage customer support will say if it's a scam or not

Criminals. I cancelled 2 yrs ago and they keep charging me, a lot. And provide nothing.
You cannot call them. So I've emailed, posted, left a voice mail. Better Business Bureau is next.

Hi Joseph, the screenshot you attached shows that you were looking at an annual subscription, not a monthly subscription. Please note that our monthly subscription is $24.95/month, not $200/month. Backstage.com offers casting opportunities for actors and others in the film, television, and theater communities. In order to best support and maintain this service, users need to purchase a subscription in order to be able to apply to the casting notices posted on our site. This is not unlike other sites that offer access to castings.

Backstage has furnished a plethora of VO jobs, but their range of jobs offered is too wide. I'm an 86-year old man, and my voice can pass for 45 years up, but I get constant calls for women, children etc. I spend at least an hour a day searching through leads that simply do not fit my voice. Then Backstage shows me a disclaimer saying my age range (45-86) does not meet the requirement of the VO submitted. They should apply the parameters more closely to mine.

Bygone Days

I remember when Backstage was THE foreground for entertainment and casting (before actors access et-el) Every actor, director etc. I knew used it. Now It since seems more a flop ground for low budget and volunteer projects no one wants. Why pay the 6 or 12 month membership fee for that? Makes no sense. I know that I've never gotten contacted for anything local whatnot, and I have the free profile. What happened to Backstage?

Please note that the reason you're receiving multiple emails and alerts for notices you are not interested in is because you've created multiple saved searches, some of which do not have the filters you want selected. Without specific filters like location and production type filtered out, you'll understandably receive notifications for every notice posted on Backstage.

If you look carefully at your screenshot, that email notification was for a saved search that you created named 'eaglegrad16'. I recommend deleting all of your saved searches and creating a brand new one that encompasses everything you're looking for. I signed up my 12 yes old son. I didn't get advice on how to use the website or if we had done it correctly. Never received an email or message from them. But now it's time to renew and guess what! Now finally being contacted that they need my new credit card information.

They don't verify that jobs posted on their website are legit so you end up applying to more scams than real jobs.
Their customer service doesn't care that scammers now have all your personal information and they're extremely rude.

I'm sorry to hear that you encountered a scam on Backstage. We take the safety of our users seriously. When a casting call is posted on Backstage, it's automatically labeled as being an un-reviewed 'Instant' item with a scam-prevention warning. Then Backstage's team of casting specialists check every item for authenticity, at which point potential scams are promptly removed. Additionally, Backstage carefully monitors for suspicious site activity and examines feedback from the acting community to identify and eliminate any potential scams that may have slipped through the cracks. We also recently implemented a more secure background check system that we hope will track anything that was missed due to human error.

It a good site to gain experience but most jobs are not paid. It is no good for people looking for jobs on crew like make-up because you still have to put in your head shot and playing age, even though it is not relevant to you.

I'm very disappointed because it could be so much better if done properly. I've asked them to close my account. I hope they can do that right!

Please read reviews before purchasing subscription to this site. I have not received any auditions on his site... same listings posted on other sites Ive been called in for. Customer service is horrible, they are only interested in getting your money. BeWARE of this SCAM site.

Then Backstage's team of casting specialists check every item for authenticity, at which point potential scams are promptly removed. Additionally, Backstage carefully monitors for suspicious site activity and examines feedback from the acting community to identify and eliminate any potential scams that may have slipped through the cracks. Backstage is successfully used to cast more than 100,000 legitimate roles every year, and has been the most trusted name in casting for more than 50 years.
