I did the 30 day free trial and I cancelled in the 1st 2 weeks and they have been charging my card for 10 months now and will not stop! I shut down my credit card and they started charging my other one that I use through google wallet. This company needs to be stopped!
Big scam!
I unexpectedly stopped getting my weekly digital backstage. I didn't notice at first and when I did I realize it had been quite a while. I emailed them to take care of it. They did and gave me a partial credit on my next subscription renewal. They could have easily said no but they made it a priority to help me out. Not sure what happened to my subscription months ago but it doesn't matter. All subscriptions are up to date and they gave me some of my money back.
They are a great resource for all actors, especially those just starting out, like myself. They have real opportunities and anytime there's a possibility of a scam-- they take the steps needed to take a casting down and keep actors safe. As for billing, you get an email noticethe same way you would from a subscription to Netflix or Hulu plus etc. They're the most trusted database out there in my opinion and have been around since 1960 for a reason.
Aw shucks, you're making us blush.
Awful, scammy website! They got mad at me for not paying for my casting call. I had created it before backstage charged money, and was never informed I needed to start paying. They refused to hear my side. Asked for the help person's full name/reference id because of their service, as all they did was continuously lie and trying too hard to look like they were in the right. Never responded to. Unprofessional
Backstage is the best! Their postings are so helpful and it is so easy to submit through their website. I have gotten many jobs through Backstage and am so grateful for the wonderful service you provide for actors and everyone in the entertainment industry. I also just had the pleasure of asking for help with something on your website and their support staff was so awesome and answered my question quickly and much more thoroughly than I expected. Thanks so much Backstage and keep doing what you're doing :)! !
Cancelled my subscription after the first month (even though I didn't even know I was subscribed, luckily I checked) and was still charged for 2 more months after that. The site didn't let me cancel and support was no help. They just tell you refunds are not available. Very annoying considering I tried to make sure this didn't happen to me and it still did. Not even sure if I'm cancelled now because it said the same thing last time and I still got charged again and again. Would NOT recommend giving them your credit card Info. Also if I get an automated reply to this review saying to email them at customer service and that they are sorry. I already did. No help, said refunds are not available. Also did NOT receive any emails about getting rebilled or that a payment was coming up. I have checked my email and nothing like that had been sent, so that is just not true.
Hi Megan, I'm sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with our service! Unfortunately, as my colleague Ben explained, we did not see any record of you self cancelling until 2 minutes prior to the email you sent to us this past Friday. When you successfully turn off the auto renewal on your subscription, you are sent an automated message from our billing system stating you've cancelled as well as shown a confirmation message on the screen afterwards. I can confirm that the auto renewal is definitely off on your account, so you will have no further charges. Please note that reminder emails are only sent to those with long term subscriptions, not monthly subscriptions. Best, Stephanie
He was very helpful, concise, and responded in a reasonable amount of time! Great guy! Thank you, Backstage, for all that you have done! I promote you guys and girls often! Keep up the good work! Love you all!
If you ever need promo work, I would love to help out! www.vimeo.com/vp

I love backstage! Backstage really helped me to find auditioning roles from network channels such as HBO, Netflix, Disney, Nick and so much more. This website has roles for movies and TV shows that can suit everybody. I love this website and i hope everyone else does too!
I thought it had a lot of great auditions and submissions but never any response back about anything. I felt like I was just a small fish in a large pond. Richard was very helpful with great customer service.
I am not pleased with this website. It seems as the majority of casting calls I've seen on this website for the past year are nothing but scams: improper grammar, strange word choice, etc. I just don't trust any casting call I see online. Which is why I am going back to college to take actual IN PERSON classes and not put up with this online nonsense anymore.
Hello Lisa,
Thanks for submitting your feedback. In 2017 almost 40,000 casting calls were posted on Backstage, and only an extreme minority (~1%) were possible scams, all of which were removed within a few hours of going up. When a casting call is posted on Backstage, it's automatically labeled as being an un-reviewed 'Instant' item with a scam-prevention warning. Then Backstage's team of casting specialists check every item for authenticity, at which point potential scams are promptly removed. Additionally, Backstage carefully monitors for suspicious site activity and examines feedback from the acting community to identify and eliminate any potential scams that may have slipped through the cracks. There are occasionally casting calls submitted that maybe do not use the best grammar and have spelling mistakes, so they also clean up notices to make them more legible and understandable.
Backstage is successfully used to cast more than 100,000 legitimate roles every year, and has been the most trusted name in casting for more than 50 years. Again, thanks so much for your feedback but I wanted to show you some of our numbers and explain our process so you can see what's going on behind the scenes.
Good luck in your career!
I had a subscription for 2 months and I've tried to cancel my subscription multiple times, and have not been contacted so am unable to. Backstage never got me any jobs and the ones that did contact me wanted me to pay them for the privilege of working with them!
I encountered problems downloading documents to aid me in getting acting work. I contacted the team at Backstage and explained the problems I was having. They responded by email very quickly and told me how to resolve the problems. Being a newcomer to Backstage I welcome this positive feedback from the team it is an indication of excellent service.
I had an important question regarding the submissions I was starting to make.
I also wanted to submit something that same day and needed an immediate response.
I got an email back promptly helping me with my issue!
Thank you BACKSTAGE team for making that happen!
I highly recommend Backstage to all actors and entertainment professionals! It's easy to use, has amazing jobs and the support team is always prompt to reply and address your concerns. I've been using Backstage for many years and couldn't be happier. Thank you!
Hi Leyla, thank you for your kind feedback! :) Please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team if you have any questions or concerns!
Here's my Honest review no fluff no exaggerations. While the concept of the site is wonderful. It is poorly executed with a terrible design/interphase. I will say the backstage is great if you want to get Spam for everything but professional gigs. I won't even get into the Spam emails that are sent out x100 times a day. I have been on the site off and on for 8 years I have YET to land a single professional gig. What backstage west needs is a Rehaul and new management. Once they improve the site I am sure casting professional will use it more
Hi Davis, thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you've yet to land a job through Backstage. We hope that with some 1-1 assistance, we can help improve your chances of booking your first job! It sounds like you've created multiple saved searches if you are receiving 100+ emails a day. Please reach out to our Customer Support team at customers@backstage.com so we can assist you with filtering the emails and streamlining your searches.
It's a pretty decent website. I've never actually been cast in something by using that website (I've been cast through my agent and Actors Access, but I've never read anything that implies the website being a scam. It's been recommended here and there. Of course, though, it's mainly going to be open calls/nationwide calls and low budget things. The big movies typically go through agents only.
Backstage is a mess. The few real jobs you might find aren't worth any money and the Backstage people are mentally ill. They actually tried to force me to publish my advanced copy for auditioning lines and to do sexy lines in front of children in public rather than a private studio. Sounds insane, right? They told me in writing I had to do public auditions in front of kids for R rated borderline NC 17 sexy lines, instead of doing them in my studio where I film and do photography, voice overs, art production. I have this in an email.
Totally sick people.
I am very disappointed. They charged my credit card without consent. I did not receive notice nor a receipt. When contacting them, they said I was 2 days late for receiving a refund as it is outside the 10 day policy. I just received my credit card statement to find out about the charge. The initial subscription was made by my daughter who no longer has a card in her name, the card number no longer exists but they pushed the charge through to me as I was linked to her at that time, even though her number was declined. I would like to know how it is good business practice to charge me without contacting me. I would like to know how it is that I can dispute this charge within their 10 day policy when it takes that long to receive the statement? I called them 2 days after the posting date of the transaction and they were not willing to refund me.
Make sure you read the fine print on auto renew! My daughter got 2 leads and one guy wanted to meet her at a Starbucks. Very shady! I was charged the following year for the renewal and I tried to cancel. Can't get anyone on the phone but someone emailed me. Because it was after they charged my credit card it was basically tough $#*! we got your money already! Its too late to get a refund but we can cancel your subscription. Which they did. They canceled it but kept the money. I have never had a legitimate company cancel my subscription and keep my money.
Beware!
Hello Robert, thanks for submitting your feedback. I just wanted to respond to clarify some of the details.
As you mention, Backstage is an automatically renewing online subscription service, much like Netflix, Huluu and Spotify. Annual and semi-annual subscriptions with us have a refund window, but you need to get to us within 5 days of the charge in order to be eligible. We understand that sometimes life gets in the way, and subscriptions like this can be forgotten, which is why we send out a renewal reminder one month before renewal so customers have plenty of time to cancel should they no longer desire to use the service.
The good news is, that when a subscription is cancelled, you retain access to the subscription features for the time you have paid. Your daughter's subscription will not renew, but she'll be able to continue to apply to the opportunities on our platform for the duration of her subscription payment.
Hopefully that helps clear up any misconceptions.
Thanks for using Backstage.
Backstage fooled me once, but a second time, they won't. While I was a paying member, I got a few invites to audition. When I realized membership wasn't worth it, I decided to cancel at the end of the period I signed up for. Once I wasn't a member, my email was filled with invites! I mean, several every week compared to one or two in a month. I believe that Backstage somehow "promotes" your profile while you don't pay to get you to come back. Once you pay, forget about it! Sorry, I'm not biting again!
