Backstage will charge your card because they assume that you want their services. They charged my card an additional 150 dollars for a renewal that I didn't authorize, even when I told them that I wanted to cancel. I would just stick with Actors Access. Or Casting Networks
I found it very difficult to reach them (impossible by phone). Then when I finally got one of their people on a chat about payments and about other matters, he/she refused to identify him/herself when I asked a question about their relationship with agents and directors. So I asked a director I have worked with and she said this company used to be good, but recently they have changed some of their policies. She said they are more interested in money and in falsely promising people roles than in actually helping actors. They also dont do anything much for people who are not in LA or New York. Stay away.
Please take this with a grain of salt. Backstage.com is a truly legit and reliable company. The only major downside from what I've seen is the shooting locations. You might as well save your money or kiss your chances goodbye if you don't live in or near a major city. Things are pretty lackluster on the voice acting side in terms of recording remotely. Like I said, most of the best opportunities are onsite locations, yet they'll never be anywhere near your own city or state. In terms of acting in general, the locations you can choose from are very limited. Not every city or state is selectable.
In fact, I had to Google films being shot in my own state due to my location not being a major city. That part saddens me. I basically spent money to look at opportunities that will never be relevant or obtainable to me. Things might be different for any of you though.
I remember back when they had a free trial and the customer service people were kind. Now if you email them regarding an issue they act clueless, they somehow miss your response, they ask you to repeat stuff, all In all you go back and forth for hours over an issue that could've been resolved in under 5 minutes. It's email communication not a chat, I don't understand how you missed an email, that I can see on my end. If you run into an issue with them, they act clueless as if they don't make mistakes, I refuse to do business ever again. And they allow so many people to make scam posts, and they keep it there because why not they get paid anyways.
Terrible customer service. I told them to delete my account they asked me in about 5 separate emails if I wanted to delete it. Like come on now?
Hi Jasmin, we understand your frustration with the situation and apologize for any confusion. When a customer requests to close their account while they have an active subscription and is not eligible for a refund, representatives are required to ask for a clear confirmation that the customer understands they have leftover time on their subscription and that they understand they will not be able to receive a refund. Since you did not respond clearly, the representative was required to ask again. Due to your initial request for a refund, it was especially imperative that we had documentation of your consent to close your account without a refund. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at customers@backstage.com and we'd be happy to help!
I cancelled my yearly subscription of £35 last september, received no confirmation of this, then woke up and was charged £101. This is theft and i will be taking it further up the company and as a police matter if not sorted. I have tried to contact all customer services but nothing, i have even put a dispute in at the bank. This site i did not use at all, hence me cancelling my subscription, then charged £101 for another year when i only paid £35 originally. This is disgusting
Hi Maria, can you send us a private message with your email address so we can check and see if your email was received? Please note that if you do not receive a confirmation email after you turn off the auto renewal on your subscription, that means your subscription was not successfully cancelled. In the future, please contact us immediately if you do not receive a confirmation email so we can investigate further. As long as you have contacted us within 14 days of the charge, please rest assured that you will receive a full refund.
They store all your info and credit card on file, then they charge you a lot of money and say that you agreed to pay for that! Be careful! And it's not app subscription and Backstage subscription! I will write police report on them! It's a fraud! Don't trust it!
Hi Alina, while we understand your frustration with being unable to receive a refund, we are not a fraudulent company. Backstage is a well respected casting platform that has been a staple of the industry for over 50 years. As we explained to you privately, we are a subscription service. By definition, your subscription auto renews until you cancel, similar to a gym membership. Since you did not cancel your subscription, your subscription renewed per schedule. We sent you a reminder email as well, reminding you of your upcoming renewal a month prior to the renewal. On top of this, we also grant customers a 14 day grace period through which we offer a full cancellation and refund for any annual and semi-annual subscriptions, even after the subscription has renewed. Unfortunately, you contacted us three months after the charge, after already disputing the charge with your bank. If you wish to continue this discussion, please email us at customers@backstage.com.
I love this website for actors. Not only do you get casting emails from them but actors get immediate responses to questions & help request. Not to mention the tons of articles that are very useful in the industry.
Thank you for your kind review, Alexis!
I got helped by Backstage staff very fast and with great understanding of my request. It was very reassuring to feel that I was actually communicating with someone in a personalised way. Thanks for the quality of connexion ;)
My daughter and I were in New York 4 years ago. My daughter was told by her college professor to check into backstage.com to look for auditions while we were in New York for the week. My daughter used the backstage.com service and then cancelled that same month. We have never been back to New York and have had no use for backstage.com. Unfortunately, I am not always diligent at checking my credit card statements until just recently. Backstage.com has charged me $149.95 every year for the past 3 years without my approval despite my daughter cancelling the very month she used it. BE AWARE! If backstage.com has your credit card number they may continue to use it. Please don't make the same mistake we did. Do not cancel by phone... keep proof of your cancellation and make sure you watch your credit card statements. I have a feeling that we are not the only ones that have been a victim of this practice at backstage.com!
Hi Kimberly,
As my colleague Ben mentioned in his email correspondence with you last week, unfortunately we have no record of your daughter contacting us to cancel her subscription four years ago. We send a reminder email to all subscribers who have purchased a long term subscription (in your daughter's case, an annual subscription), as well as provide a 10 day grace period where subscribers are welcome to contact us for a full cancellation and refund as we know these subscriptions can sometimes be forgotten. However, we have not received any requests to cancel or receive a refund since your daughter's renewal in October of each year until this past week. Since your most recent renewal took place over 3 months ago, we are unable to issue a refund for the subscription at this point. - Stephanie
Backstage has been GREAT. Once you ask a question they give you the info and also make sure you are directed to the right place; advertising, help wanted, jobs needed, so forth. It's always been the 'Go to' for me!
Isabel M.
Hi! Stephanie C. Was excellent.
I wanted to get back to her on chat to thank her, but I must have pressed the wrong button.
In any event, the video is still processing...
I guess that takes a long time? Hence, the four stars.
If only the site could work more efficiently? However, I know it's a huge undertaking.
Still, I wish it were not so time-consuming, although, fortunately, my video is not "due" until tomorrow's deadline - good thing I did not procrastinate.
Anyhow, thanks again - - I've been cast frequently via Backstage, and I'm grateful for that.
Sincerely,
*DAB

Hi David, thank you for your kind review. We'll be in touch with you regarding your upload via email shortly! We hope you continue to find success booking jobs through Backstage :)
I'm a member of every popular actors' website, but Backstage is by far my favorite. It's the easiest to navigate, and has the best resources for finding casting directors, agents, managers, and auditions. No other website I use has huge searchable lists of casting directors and agents with their contact information and current projects! Also the price is very reasonable, and it doesn't charge you every time to update your reel or photos (looking at you, Actors Access and LAcasting). Also when I have any questions the staff gets back to me super quickly and efficiently. I loved that the submission emails could be very specific searches too, so I would only get emails for parts I would actually submit to. Actors Access and LAcasting were sending me constant emails for unpaid music video background parts. Backstage is far superior and I always recommend it to my actor friends.
How desperate does this site have to be to post theme park auditions that I can see details and time of auditions for free if I just go to that theme parks web site? This isn't professional at all if they're showing us auditions that do not require their subscription fees for us to find.
Boycott this web site, no one should ever have to pay to look for casting calls, it's like looking for a job, job web sites post openings all the time for positions, this is just another scam talent agency trying to rob money out of those that don't know how the acting/entertainment industry works.
Hello Castmemberphantom,
Thanks for leaving us your feedback on Backstage.com. I think it's important to point out a few misconceptions you have about how Backstage works.
Backstage.com hosts 30,000 opportunities a year in the US, UK, and around the globe. In some instances, these opportunities may also appear elsewhere, but unlike other casting platforms we do not require users to subscribe in order to view any of our casting opportunities. In fact, there are many postings on our platform for open casting calls, giving users and non-users alike all the details for where the auditions are being held, free of charge! Simply navigate to https://www.backstage.com/casting/ to see what's available in your area.
A Backstage.com subscription grants users the ability to create one of the most robust online talent profiles available in the industry, with an unlimited number of headshots, videos, and other media files to give you an edge over the competition. In addition to that, our subscribers can use their world class talent profile to apply to any of the opportunities posted with us, including the majority of our casting calls that are not listed on other sites. Backstage users have the convenience of everything being in one spot, and the benefit of creating a superior talent profile to show casting agencies their best face. Casting agencies who post with us have the convenience of our state-of-the-art platform to streamline the process of filling the roles in their projects with the perfect candidates.
Overall, you're not going to find a casting platform as robust, convenient, and polished as Backstage. We thank you for your feedback and hope we were able to clear up some of your confusion about the value of the platform.
Take care, and good luck in your career.
Customer service is good, just wish there were more SAG AFTRA projects. A lot of "student films" and non-paying projects.
Years ago the "paper" used to also have survival jobs.
That seems to have disappeared.
Don't waste your time or money. Complete sham. Overpraise and deliver nothing. No way to even contact them to inquire about the product they ave sold you. If you want to flush $100 or more down the toilet - go ahead. Otherwise I would look elsewhere
Hi Christina,
Our customer support team is available Monday - Friday from 10am to 6pm EST. You can reach out via email at customers@backstage.com, but you can also live chat with us through our website. You can find all the ways in which you can contact us here: https://backstage.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000425066-Backstage-Contact-Options. Feel free to reach out, I'm certain one of our representatives can help you out with your subscription.
I am a theater, film, and tv actor and have been on this website for years and have gotten some auditions here and there. But this year, it has been ruined by casting calls that I think are an insult to the more serious people in the industry.
"UGC" along with "seeking influencer types" for TikTok is practically spamming the website now, and there is no easy way to filter these out. I find these casting calls disgusting as it's a form of cheap labor since people film themselves for these 'roles' and only get paid $150 which is more on the low end compared to other more professional projects.
I know people who have messaged customer service complaining about these casting calls and they are not helpful at it it's like talking to a robot. In my opinion, it has ruined the website and I cannot believe there isn't an option to never receive notifications or even see these types of casting calls. I do not even think I am going to renew my membership if they don't solve this.
Hi Sam, thanks for your honest feedback.
While we understand how it may be frustrating to see casting notices for roles that you feel may be beneath your talents, please note that the majority of our users are just getting started in the business and often do not have any experience as a working actor. These types of jobs are popular at the moment and are a great way for new actors to book their first professional jobs and earn an income as they build their resumes.
If these types of roles do not interest you, you can filter out these types of jobs by removing the 'Online Commercials & Promos' tag within your saved searches and updating them. If you need assistance, please reach out to us directly at customers@backstage.com and we'd be happy to help!
Backstage is not only a wonderful resource for artists and those working in the entertainment industry, but the organization is a great example of quality service to its members. I recently received the best customer service - they replied to my request within 2 hours as advertised and offered the best solution for me. I would highly recommend Backstage as a place for artists to thrive and dive in their career and assure anyone that Backstage has their back!
I have had such an eventful blast being with Backstage for the 2 years I been with them as it was such an heartfelt and amazing experience! I've learn so much from the sets I been booked on by the crew and staff along with there utmost devotion to there craft and work environment! But to the people I have resonated very well with for social and work purposes as its so lovely getting to work with them all! I can't wait to join back in 2020, hopefully the time passes on by soon enough! :)
It's a bit expensive, considering the use of the website by the casting agencies is very limited. I feel like many casting directors do not go through this websites messaging service when you get call backs. I've received one call back and it was via text message to my personal number. I had to download the sms and it would not download and no one answered the number it was from. It was also in a group message so I had all these people texting my phone.
Backstage is a great way to find jobs and start a career right. Based on my own experience backstage has really helped me evolve. Whenever I have an issue Backstage customer service is always here to help.
