The overall reputation of Select Home Warranty is predominantly negative, with numerous customers expressing dissatisfaction regarding service delays, claim denials, and poor customer support. Many reviews highlight a troubling pattern of unfulfilled promises, lack of transparency in policy coverage, and difficulty in obtaining reimbursements. Conversely, a few customers noted the affordability of the plans and positive initial interactions with sales representatives. However, these positive experiences are overshadowed by widespread complaints about the company's reliability and perceived deceptive practices, leading to a strong sentiment among consumers to avoid this service.

Scam company. Won't pay any claims. Replaced a water valve that didn't fix the issue now so I need to pay out of pocket to replace the washer.
Their goal is to pay out as little as possible, don't trust this scam of a company. They market that they have the highest payouts on single claims, they market that age of appliance doesn't matter, they will sell you the first 2-3 lines of the contract which offers to repair/replace, but then they bury deep in the contract that they barely cover anything and they can, at their leisure, write down the value of your appliance to next to nothing and offer you a tiny payout AFTER you've paid the $65 service fee. Additionally, all calls get routed offshore. There's no way to speak to someone in the U.S. and theres no way to have anyone take responsibility. I would recommend you take your business elsewhere, otherwise, they'll earn your premiums up until your first claim, after which, you'll cancel because of how terrible their service is. We've waited over 6 weeks to have a fridge repaired, and they finally offered us $200... our tankless water heater stopped working, rather than repair, they offered us $225. Note, this is after us paying the $65 fee both times. Their goal isn't to provide warranty service, their goal is to steal your premiums.
Nothing but legal ripoff they got me for $249.00 for add on never used once I used it after a week I was told contractor will contact me with then in 48 hrs 6 days later nothing when I called to check my claim they said I'm eligible to get my own contractor then I have to pay the contractor then they send me reimbursement check with in 4 weeks.when I asked to be refunded my money they rejected me they said my plan isn't eligible for refund.
My Dish Washer Quit Working April 3 Select Home Warranty Has Been Giving Me The Run Around Every One I Talk To Tells Me Something Different They Say They Will Give Me $150.00 For My Dish Washer Today Is May 24 I Will Not Hold My Breath Very Bad Company I Will Every Body Not To Get This Warranty They Do Not Tell You The Truth They Just Want Your $800'00
This company should be investigated. Due to their constant lies to cover repairs in a home, which they ultimately refused to, a disabled elderly woman has been left in a home with vapors and spillage. She has become physically ill. Letters have been sent to the CEO, requesting intervention, but no one is helping. We will be contacting the media.
Worst company ever. They have NO customer service. Took the 3 1/2 weeks to return a phone call that they said would happen within 24 hours. My 4000.00 claim has been open for 16 months. They only want to honor it for 400.00. They never even sent anyone out. I had to do all the work and I did it the best I could. Now demanding they send there own tech out. Worst company ever!
Do not purchase more than 1 month at a time, request a refund for a multi year contract after not satisfied with response to attempt to make a claim, so frustrating, no repairman in my area would accept select home warranty and there were no repair people available from, select home warranty. I had to buy a new washer. When I call 4-5 weeks ago, (today is 5/16/23) I asked to cancel, was told that the cancellation was complete and a check would come in 4-5 weeks. No check yet, so I called today 5/16/23 and was informed the contract had not been cancelled and I have been charged for another month, there has been no refund processed. Now I have to wait for a call back from a supervisor to cancel.@#%$%&^%%. Not only that I am being charged until it's cancelled, spending much time on hold and repeating actions over and over. Additionally the individuals I've talked to ask repeatedly why I want to cancel and try to bargain with me to remain with the company, I repeat I want to cancel, I don't want to be doing this over and over and being charged daily for the Select Home Warranty to hold the contract open and hold on to my $5,000.00 of dollar. It appears the company will stall and stall, this has been my experience.
TAKE NOTE THAT POSITIVE REVIEWS are all about the salesperson when they purchased the service contract - THAT is because they offer a discount if you leave a review - - ALL the ACTUAL repair requests are NEGATIVE!
The agent was rude and did not listen to the service repair tech that YOU sent! She called him on a three-way call and disregarded what he explained to her.
My claim was denied - I was initially told it was not "normal wear and tear" -
When I appealed because the repair service YOU sent specifically said "normal wear and tear" I was denied again - and then I was told it was because the report said - "no hot water & leaking"
She said "Leaks are not covered" I explained the leak was caused by the failure of the heating element... I didn't have a leak... that caused the break!
The repair guy explained that he saw no visible leak, just a damp floor, you will find that at any broke hot water heater!
The service man called me after this call and said I can not believe what they are doing!
English is my second language but the fact that I wrote that there was water coming from a water heater should not make your claim denied!
It is an old water heater that needs to be replaced due to normal wear.
Filed 3 claims in the course of a year and a half all three denied bogus reasons total scam they look for any reason to deny your claim and when all else fails for them they say depreciation and will only offer you $200 at most and only after you submit a paid invoice. Customer service works off flow charts which is circuitous and gets you nowhere. Even talking to a manager has the same result and excuses. They say they are in NJ but I'm almost certain they are not
I submitted a claim for my clothes dryer and Select Warranty sent out someone, who showed up in his car and only a screwdriver. He could not get the back panel or top panel off the dryer, decided it was the knob since the knob controls the electricity. I paid the $65 service fee which was the only concern he really had. Gave me his phone number and stated to call him the following day. He was going to see whether the part was available or would have to be ordered.I called him the following day, phone went direct to voice mail nd no messages as mail box was full. The same day I got an email from Select Warranty stating the dryer cannot be repaired and will give me $150 when I provide receipt of new dryer. Emailed and called Select Warranty explained the dryer is like brand new not a rust bucket and requested they send out a service repairman with a truck, tools and parts who knew what he was doing to fix the dryer. They stated they had reconciled the claim and would be doing nothing more.
I'm the type of person who gets a warranty on everything so I'm very familiar with how this usually works. I have never delete with a company like this. It just seems like a scam. I'll never use this company again. A lot of people are saying this for a reason. I don't even see how they have a rating this high. Stay away!
Paid $485.98 for their top-tier Platinum Care plan, plus extra coverage for 2nd freezer and frig. Had one claim for a frig that needed repair (I paid for service call per contract). They decided to "buy me out" for the frig instead of repairing it and depreciated it to $175. Frig still "works" and could be repaired for far less than a new frig, but they won't cover that and say I have to buy a new frig, send the invoice, and THEN they'll send my $175. So now I'll be out the entire repair bill (to save myself $ compared to new frig) since we can't afford a whole new one. Basically $500 wasted on a useless "warranty".
Avoid like the plague!
We - and even more so our guests, have dealt with the joys of having a broken heater/AC in the guest area of our home. The fact that three of our guests thus far have had the pleasure of experiencing it speaks volumes about the efficiency of the company we've entrusted our home warranty to. We reported the issue over four weeks ago, and they've shown an exceptional commitment to procrastination in addressing our claim. Every time we reach out to them, they assure us that a supervisor will call us the very next morning. We can only admire their consistency in either not returning the call, or having someone who barely speaks English avoiding to deal with our claim. Their customer service team takes the term "language barrier" to new heights, with English that is barely comprehensible. They claim they are in New Jersey - they are not, the accent is probably from the Philippines or thereabouts. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but the only training these people have had is to ask how they can help, and then making absolutely sure they avoid doing so. Stunningly useless. Our tireless efforts to get the heater replaced have been met with a level of productivity that would make a sloth proud. With two years into a five-year warranty and around $5000 invested in this "home warranty" company, we can't help but question the wisdom of staying with this company any longer. Switching to another home insurance provider seems more tempting by the day regardless of the financial hit we will take. They are utterly useless. The B- rating for this company must be a testament to their uncanny ability to be both disappointing in customer service and poor in value for money, but it does not reflect reality, which in our experience is way worse. My wife has developed a newfound hobby of calling them daily, only to be met with the sweet sound of unhelpful responses in barely intelligible English. Their latest magnanimous offer as of today is to cover the cost of the part only (we'll get excited when this turns out to be real, at least), which we can all agree is the epitome of generosity. In light of our experience, we would wholeheartedly recommend thinking twice before signing up with this home warranty company. They must, hopefully, be at the bottom of their league. Whatever you do, go somewhere else!
I highly recommend going with a different company. I have been with 3 different warranty companies in past properties and Select is by far the worst customer service and most dishonest company I have worked with. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I have a water heater that is on the fritz and knocking like crazy so pay my $125 and I have them come out to look at it. Contractor was not knowledgeable and I had to pull up on google the issue that it was having because he did not know how the water heater worker. He finishes and leaves and 9 days go by with no word. I call and am told that he never submitted his findings so I ask that a different contractor be sent out to fix the issue and am told that they will send out a different contractor and waive the $125 so that I don't have to pay it again. Another 5 days go by and they reassign it to the same contractor so I call again to tell them that I do not want the same contractor. They again say that they will reassign it to a different contractor and I won't have to pay. I get the confirmation email saying that I will be contracted within 48 hours by the tech. Yet another 4 days go by and I call only to find out that they accepted the review from the current contractor and that I am awarded $150 for the claim and have to pay anything above that out of pocket. I ask what their policy is for contractors to respond to them with their findings after a review and they tell me 2 business days. I ask to speak to the a supervisor and ask them why I was not assigned a new technician after I was promised one by several different reps, and am told that because the contractor finally submitted the report I would have to pay the $125 again and their decision was final. I asked why they would not honor what they had told me before and was told that because they received the review it was closed. It took the contractor 10 business days after the review to submit the review, the supervisor refused to help make it right and could not explain why my request was not honored, only that it was closed and I had no choice but to pay again to have a competent contractor come out to look at it.
Don't Fall for It! No Peace of Mind!
I have been with Select Home Warranty for about 3 months now. I have filed three different claims and each one has truly been a nightmare from their lack of customer service to their looking for any and all reasons to either deny a claim, refer to fine print exclusions, or pay you pennies on the dollar to replace or repair your item. If I were you, I would NOT RECOMMEND them or other warranty companies these days. Save your money in an account for the annual premium and use that money to fix or replace your items yourself. You will use hours trying to get them to help or reimburse you for items. There is NO peace of mind with Select and I'm so sorry I fell for the shiny brochures and slick sales talk that things would be taken care of. You will not be able to understand the English of the reps on the phone or the technicians that come to your house! Again, save your money and don't fall for Select Home Warranty or other "warranty" type companies like this
They don't respect their own contract. When they no longer have excuses because you make a claim with your contract in hand, they just say they won't pay you and offer you a free month or some crazy thing. Why do I want a free month of fake insurance? Ridiculous. Read your contract but don't expect this insurance to respect it. It's pure scam. Notice in their contract that they say the insurance doesn't cover you for the first 30 days. Later it says that it will cover partially during the first 90 days. However when i made a a claim after 45 days, they refused my claim complaining that i requiere 90 days in the plan to make a claim (even partially). They argued that the first 30 days don't count (but they still charged me) and when I read the contract to them, they argued more and more until finally they didn't have arguments and said they won't pay but they could give me a free month. Select home warranty insurance and old republic, they both are fraudulent companies. We better have a saving account instead of wasting money in dishonest and hopeless insurance.
Purchased a warranty from them a couple of years ago. Finally submitted a legitimate claim. They sent out a tech from a reputable company. He submitted his review of the problem and the many items that needed to be replaced. The company took two weeks to finally make a decision and declined the coverage for no valid reason. You can't talk with anyone in the Response team who makes the decision. So you have no person to explain or discuss anything with. THE WORST COMPANY TO BUY FROM. DON'T WALK AWAY, RUN AWAY
Select Warranty is a complete scam. They advertise, market, and sell to you the false idea that if anything goes wrong in your home they will reimburse you for the full cost of the issue or damage. This is so far from the truth. My hot water heater stopped working in the middle of winter. First of all, it took them over 2 weeks to "resolve" the claim (they advertise 48 hours to resolve claims), and their version of resolving the claim was to offer me $300 on a $5,000 repair. Have you ever lived through a cold winter without hot water for 2 weeks? When I complained and threatened to cancel, they offered me $400. When I threatened again, they offered me $500. This company is a scam. STAY FAR AWAY!
Their claims and customer call centers are based entirely in India and their agents read from a script repeatedly and try to prevent you from cancelling the policy. It is impossible to speak with someone in the US. If you insist on cancelling, they pass you on from one person to the next eventually claiming you have to speak to a supervisor. That person is never available and has to call you back "later". STAY FAR AWAY!
In the end, I cancelled my policy and did not get a full refund. I cannot say this enough... STAY FAR AWAY! You have been warned.
I wanted peace of mind, and I bought a Select Home Warranty for 3 1/2 years costing almost $1500. Peace of mind ended when our ice maker stopped functioning, and I made my first claim. I was told that the refrigerator was covered but not the ice maker. Huh? Then I was told additional coverage for the ice maker was normally $240, but I could get a reduced price of $124! Plus a $65 service fee. So, $200 later I'll get an email within 48 hours to schedule service. What a corrupt and misleading business model. I'm so disappointed.
This company was called on a Saturday about a plumbing back up. Aside from the frustration of a plumbing situation there was the repeated "What did you say" over and over again! Now, there were two emails indicting. That the Plumbing incident would take two days at minimum to be addressed! I wonder if the owner of the company would have to wait for two days to have someone come in to look at the plumbing issue? So, Sat, Sun, Mon came and went and after speaking to a so-called supervisor...late Monday night! Wahla...in the entire state of Florida and city of Tampa and Clearwater...they found the only plumber in Omar! Oh, and SHW said that this was the only plumber in Florida that they could find! Liars! Needless to say, if you are reading this... you need to know that SHW did not pay a penny for the repair! Nope, I had to pay for not only the service person to come but also for the repair! I would not only walk away I would RUN as fast as I could from SHW! They are scam artists!
Answer: Scam. Do not trust. They lie and will NOT cover your items.
Answer: Based on Internet searches but quickly found out that they are a SCAM.
Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
Answer: They are fast when signing you but so slow in responding and they are a total scam had to pay out of pocket for my leak repair that they should fix
Answer: Stay away from this company, get your money back ASAP. The longer you wait, the less money you get back.
