I have 2 Gen 1 ring doorbells. They're approximately 2 years old. Everything worked great... Until ring started adding features to the ring app (person detection, advanced motion, etc) then it all went downhill quickly. It started with intermittent problems viewing the feed on my fire tv. Then it was constant recording of black videos rather than an actual video. Then it was everything. No live view, black recordings, now motion and ring notifications are super slayed. Customer service is a joke and has been no help because they'll have me reset my doorbell, reconnect like its new, and it'll work for a few hours before it stops working again.
There's no easy way to reset the camera, either. You HAVE to unmount it to reset it. So, every day I'm resetting the camera for a whopping few minutes or couple hours of it mostly working.
Nothing in my home has changed. None of my other video security devices (Wyze, Vivint) have any issues whatsoever. I even went so far as to change the wifi it uses to another ssid for troubleshooting. Same problem exists.
It's more trouble than it's worth at this point. Ring needs to go back to the version that last worked... Which was maybe September or October 2020.
Buyer Beware!
I have the Ring Video doorbell Pro which was purchased through HSN.com it was easy too install I did need an 45 degree angle mount which was easy and very inexpensive to purchase thru Amazon.com.
Installation process and set up was FANTASTIC easy to do and follow along, RING gives you all the tools and the Video of step by step installation guide if I can install it trust me anyone can do it.
For the 1st week everything was working great till yesterday my husband notice while we were approx 2.5 hrs away from home that the audio was choppy when we answered the call of someone at our door. When we got home the trouble shooting began. We check to see if the choppy and verbalization was still occurring on both of our phones (it was), we then checked on our neighbors to see if he was experiencing the same issue audio issue (he was not). I called HSN and they basically told me that this is a vendor issue and I would need to contact them.
The only info that came with this item was a packing slip that had RING address but no contact number
SPECIAL note at 1st I purchase a different product when received I ordered the wrong item. Once again on packing slip no phone number and no instructions on how to return item. I returned item to address that was on packing slip thus far I haven't seen a credit on my method of payment yet.
Tired and Confused
I miss to people that came to my house. The ring.com didn't work, it will alart long after the person is gone. Late alarts often. I made a bad choice to buy ring.com
I am an IT professional. In my role as a Quality Assurance Analyst, I test hardware and software for my company. After@2+ years of experiencing many Ring Spotlight Cam (wired) and Video Doorbell 2 camera issues, it is my opinion that the annual subscription cost I am paying for is not justified, due to the following recurring issues:
1. Poor video quality.
2. Frequent dropped connections.
3. Missed recordings in history... sometimes for hours at a time!
4. Motion warnings not always playing.
5. Inconsistent/unstable video streaming once connected.
6. Excessive streaming delays after opening app to view.
As a prime example, in April of 2022 a vehicle recently drove across my front lawn and onto my driveway, then collided with my wife's parked car, causing substantial damage to both my lawn and vehicle. To my utter disappointment, our wired (and properly setup and functioning) Ring Spotlight Cam, which is positioned directly in front of my driveway, failed to capture ANY footage of the event!
In the most recent "event", last evening (9/7/2022) I was up past midnight resetting my Ring Spotlight Cam, after discovering that it had not captured ANY driveway footage after 6:20 PM. In spite of my efforts, I could not view my driveway on either my iPhone app or on my PC via the Ring.com web site.
Unfortunately, my overall experience with Ring equipment and software has for the most part been very unsatisfactory. Inferior equipment coupled with continued substandard performance, including inaccessibility of recordings when needed, translates into little value to my Ring subscription.
Based on the above, I see no reason to renew my Ring account subscription, and I would caution others to reconsider before purchasing an annual Ring subscription.
I PAID TO HAVE MY RING FLOODLIGHT CAMERA INSTALLED. NOW IT DOESNT WORK. RING SAYS I WILL HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO COME BACK AND RESET THE CHIME BUTTON. THEY WANTED ME TO DO IT. I SAID I AM A SR. CIZITEN AND CANT CLIMB A LADDER. SO THEY SAID I WILL HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE. AN AWFUL COMPANY. THEY WERE VERY CONDESCENDING.
Very disappointed with the surprise about continuing extra fees. Doorbell doesnt even ring now and without the extra membership fees youre out of luck!

Hardware has failed 3 times in 5 months
Have had to uninstall and reinstall the app 21 times in 5 months
Customer service is terrible. Poor language skills, poor technical knowledge (first step us always to uninstall and reinstall the pos app) then if it doesnt work, they are lost.
Supervisors do not accept calls or return calls.

I received a "blink" doorbell for Christmas (Canada) and the blink doorbell came with a free one month trial. I liked the service very much as they provided a video, motion and viewing people that are at your door and ring the doorbell. Once my trial was over, I signed up to blink and linked the account to my amazon account and paid for $50.00 Canadian for one year. The doorbell worked immediately. The next morning, I was receiving several emails from "ring" telling me to register my account. I thought that because "ring" looks similar to Blink in that is shows the blue colour on their company name to Blink, I registered, and gave my email to the company "Ring". This deleted my account from "Blink" and I was receiving emails from "Ring" telling me that someone was in my account. This is disgusting that a company like "Ring" would hijack my existing account with "Bink". I had to contact "Blink" and the CSR had to cancel my account and reinstall it in order for it to work again. People, if a company like "Ring" is going to be that shady, that would do something like that to get people to sign up to their company, I would say never use them and delete them right away. I actually had to go on to the "Ring" website, sign in with my already made password that I created (thinking that it was Blink) to delete my account. The sad thing is that it will take 30 days to have my account deleted. I better not get charged as Blink was linked up to my Amazon account. BEWARE PEOPLE! In addition, I gave the rating of one star for "Ring" as there was not a an option for 0 stars or negative stars.
I bought 5 cameras and one never would turn on. If you buy more than one Ring don't expect them all to work. Figure that into the cost.
Don't waste your time, buy something else. After a year my $#*! just stopped working and all they say is "oh sorry" basically I'm just SOL…
I have nothing good to say about this product. My phone will not connect. Dark screen on live feed. You have been warned.

Answer: Most annoying product ever. Doesn't work but almost does. This makes you constantly fool with it thinking you maybe possibly actually got it to do something similar to what they advertise. But in the end you will be back to square one with a pricey piece of crap! Then after hrs of listening to customer services b. S. you realize you've been had. But it doesn't end there. You end up on sites like this trying to help others from making the same mistake. And trying to figure out when this hell will end!
Answer: It does not work the way it is presented on T. V. The inability to immediately respond "LIVE" to an event renders it useless.
