I hired Nigel Tomsett N A Tomsett, Property Maintenance in Burgess Hill View others
148 Royal George Road, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 9SL for building the extension to my house in Eastbourne. He did not give me an estimate but a maximum cost of the project. They wanted to be paid by day and I was buying all materials. We agreed that any cheaper arrangements will make my savings against the maximum cost of the extension. We signed the contract stipulating the time of completion in three months and weekly wages.
I really trusted Nigel and treated him very well. Most of the days they were leaving earlier and they took long breaks which I did not question simply out of respect. On a number of occasions, when I came home unexpectedly, they were having a break at different times of the day. I did a lot of work myself and significant simplifications to the project were made in the meantime, which should obviously lower the total cost. At that time they slowed down even more despite being paid weekly wages including for the hours they simply did not work.
After three months they were in breach of contract and well before completion. Also, without any consultation with me Nigel engaged his friend, a plumber Neil Valentine, and simply added him to the pay list. After 17 days I got an independent opinion about how much work the plumber completed. This amounted to maximum 7 days and he was already paid for 17 days. This caused a loss of £1800. After we parted Nigel refused to correct some small faults, which was covered by the warranty and which I had to pay the new builder for.
Joined as a trader, getting leads but they go out to all tradesmen and to many get shortlisted, they take about £250 for a loft project and no one get the job, client can list bogus projects or just list for a quotation without even wanting the works done, the only one that earns from it is my builder. Absolute bad management, rip off company. Even after my account is restricted they still allow client to shortlist you and charge you approx £50 a time. Absolute joke. There are much better company's out there. Watchdog need to investigate.
After putting a request on my builder for a kitchen fitter, I was contacted by WILSH PROPERTY, lewis has done a very good job and myself and my family are very pleased with the end result, would recommend him to anyone who wants cupboards put in their kitchen, LORRAINE IN RAMSGATE
I used My builder to find a builder well what a load of cowboys my wife and i were ripped of for £6.5 thousand by Complete Property Services from Tiverton Devon his name was Dave Carpenter. Most of the work was done by a complete idiot who couldnt build a straight line if his life depended on it. Dave Carpenter was rude to my wife in the end we were glad to get rid of the firm. Since then i have heard of other home owners who have sufferd at the hands of My Builder, Com
Recently joined my builder as a tradesmen and let me tell you that its a complete rip off from a traders point of view. You have to bid for a job and you are not guaranteed to get the job and the bids are little ums like £1 or £2. They vary from £20 to £30. You arent even guaranteed the job and cant even speak to the job poster to ask simple questions. You are literally bidding for jobs you wont get and can easily rack up hundreds if not thousands of pounds. If you are shorlisted for the job then you have to pay the money but the problem is the job poster shortlists a few people and unbeknown to them you are paying for it evetrytime.
Its just daylight robbery and shouldn't be allowed. They should be investigated as its just fraud. The bidding amount should be minimal and if shortlisted and verified by the job poster then also pay a minimal amount. Why not just keep it as a standard fee every month just like check a trade.
THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY SO KEEP AWAY FROM THEM. YOU ARE BETTER OFF PAYING GOOGLE FOR SOME BUSINESS.
As a tradesman, this site is shocking. You are charged for every shortlist that the *potential* customer makes. The reason I say potential is that a lot of them dont ever answer the phone when you call them, and you end up paying lots of money for nothing. Please do not use this, or rated people - much the same scammy service as this. Instead, find good tradespeople through recommendations and google. You are simply fueling this awful service. Even as a customer, you are likely to find chancers and individuals who claim to be experts in their trade, but are actually fakes and only want to rip you off. Proceed with caution.
I had very bad experience with mybuilder who blocked my account for no reason. No protection, respect and bad comunication.
Lee Davidson of Davidson Architects was very informative. He had a lot of patience when explaining the technicalities which we had never had before. Lee gave us assurance that 95% of his council building permission applications go through at the first attempt. In deed we were delighted when our application was successful at the first attempt. We recommend Davidson Architects to anyone for positive results.
All of these companies are the same my builder, checkatrade, rated people they are only after a cut of small company profits. They really dont care who joins up there are no real checks done i could have been anybody i wanted to imagine when i joined, they didn't check. The dont tell customers that tradesmen are paying them to get details, and to be honest most people who use the site are only looking to see how cheap they can get things done. These companies claim to be helping consumers but in reality they only steal local customers away from local companies, instead of phoning around a few local guys with good reviews to give quotes at no cost to the tradesmen poeple post on these sites and can get quotes from people 50 miles away. Do your local small businesses a favour and call them direct these are just corporations wanting to syphon money out of local economies.
MyBuilder don't tell customers that they charge up to 5 shortlisted tradesmen a fee for the job that often none of them get.
The fees although set manually are ridiculous.
The limited amount of info given when posting a job is also ridiculous.
MyBuilder only cares that you pay them. Simple.
Where to start? I posted a job on MyBuilder.com. I had a leaking kitchen tap, a bathroom tap whose washer needed replacing and a hard-to-flush toilet. Plus my boiler needed servicing.
I got a response very quickly and looked up the persons profile and reviews. He had 100% positive feedback from over 100 reviews, so I thought he seemed ideal.
He did replace the tap washers satisfactorily and stuck a gas-monitoring probe in the boiler flue (but didnt do much else with the boiler). He then cleaned the magnetic filter attached to the piping beside the hot water tank. Since then there has been a small leak coming from the piping, but this is the least of my worries!
This is the moment when it turns into a horror movie... The Toilet (rated 18; contains scenes of very bad language and severe emotional stress, coupled with thoughts of plumbercide)
Had I known it was just the diaphragm in the siphon that had got a tear in it I would have been tempted to try to do the job myself - oh, the brilliant irony of hindsight! - after all I couldnt have made a worse job if it than the so-called plumber did.
Basically, he took a functioning, slightly-temperamental, toilet and has left me with a leaking, no-can-use toilet with an unsecured cistern. He actually got me to go out to a plumber merchant and buy a replacement siphon diaphragm as the new siphon he thought would fit the cistern didnt. What a trusting mug I was. He replaced the flush (which was fine) with another that was too high for the cistern and propped up the cistern lid with a lump of blu-tac. Great if youre going for the asymmetrical, this-toilet-should-be-in-a-skip look. Not so great if you actually want a functioning toilet that works.
In summary if I were you I would avoid MyBuilder.com at all costs.
I had a review which they confirmed was taken down after the tradesman contacted them asking them to take it down, which they did. This tradesman is now being investigated by their professional body.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I am interior designer and advertised several time on mybuilder to find skills men/builder for my clients.
I had only one excellent experience the others I haven't even rated them as it was so bad I was shocked by how they misbehaved.
Recently I've meet a builder through them that was the most unprofessional and pretentious builder ever.
He arrived and understood that my clients are quite wealthy suddenly he started to double all cost make some propositions that wasn't required, pretending knowing how to escape council approval ect to sum up a waste of time and such a shame to bring that kind of pretentious person in front of my client.
I couldn't pick him for the job so told him, he was so upset that decided to go on houzz to post a fake negative review.
This is how builders from mybuilder behave, cow boy looking for quick money without manners.
The way mybuilder works is that guys are paying to access client that shortlist them so they don't care that the builder might misbehave as long as money is coming.
Avoid at all cost better having someone from word of mouth than randoms cow boys.
Late starter, but once on the job very good and gets on with his work with minor distractions attending to his mobile phone now and then. Good work and I would recommend him to other customers. David Sylivester is polite and interactive.
All tradesman BEWARE! My builder are posting false leads to simply make money out of honest tradesman simply trying to earn a living. If you are looking for more work AVOID this Company at all costs. If they had some sort of refund policy then it would be more attractive but they do not.
Please remember householders when u post jobs... MYBUILDER charges the tradesman... if you change your mind, MYBUILDER still charge the trademen, usually 3 per job, if you shortlisted a business please let them quote for it or find 3 local trademen and ring them up to get a quote instead
In our opinion and the information we have collated, MyBuilder website do little if anything to check out the Traders that they charge for using their website. And whilst with everything, there are genuine people and tradesmen out there, there are also those who are most definitely not. We have encountered a really poor bathroom/kitchen fitter from Abingdon, who is bankrupt, did not turn up, did not finish the job ect. However, as the Tradesman can put his advert on, do a couple of jobs and take the advert down, you are not able to leave a review, thus accurate records are not evident. The Tradesman can then, just re-open his account a few weeks later, and all previous feedback is closed. Take care
The company has a no refund policy it means they can send you leads you pay them and hey presto the customer doesn't want the work carried out anymore. A change of heart a dreamer, or I think I will get my husband to do it whatever the reason there is no work to quote for. You contact them expecting to be at least credited but no it's there policy not to refund under any circumstances. The company completely absolves itself of any responsibility. I'm not even sure if such a policy is actually legal. Anyhow be warned the amount of leads this happened was close to 50% there are plenty of providers out there who operate a fairer system using theses cowboys left me feeling like I had been scammed.
Using MyBuilder can put you in contact with some bas traders.
I DO NOT recommend the use of Neil Mclaren of MPH Plumbing & Heating based in Bury St Edmunds to carry out work.
Now called www.allheating.uk
Previously also BoilerTech Services.
Search https://www.trustonline.org.uk to see the multiple small claim judgements.
No one wants to have to deal with this situation of small claim court and loss of their money.
Neil Mclaren refused to finish the work having installed some first fix pipework, of which does not comply to building regulations as it is not insulated.
Neil damaged new electrical wiring installation and told my electrician not to inform me about it, which is very dishonest.
Neil Mclaren failed to provide the materials I had paid him for; my boiler, radiators, thermostats, pumps, all high value items.
Neil never responded to letters to resolve the situation and now has a CCJ for the money owed.
Neil owes me substantial money in a CCJ issued by court judgement which I cannot see being returned without a long drawn out process
From this site I went to a house at 9am and the Muslim lady expected me to work in her bedroom whilst the curtains were drawn and it was pitch black with her husband asleep in bed. I suffered it and did the job which was to change just the lower section of a sash window. The part which slides up. So after doing it the woman gave me a bad review. She expected for £100 for me to also completely sand the frame. That was not agreed and no company would have agreed it for only a £100. So I complained to Mybuilder but they let the negative review stay, and dropped my rating to 75% which google publicly displays on the top of the first page when you search my company name. This bad rating appears even higher in the page than my own company does. No options to remove it, even after cancelling my account. Mybuilder refuse to remove it and it costs me a lot of lost revenue. Fighting a legal battle now. Do not use these jokers. Only interested in themselves. No respect for the tradesperson.
Answer: From what I gather they just check. Insurances! No qualifications or registration checks at all!
Answer: Hi Mitsy, the service is completely free for homeowners.
Answer: Well you can always try, in anyway they would remove your reviews as they did mine. Depend which trader though! Some of them seems to be more protected than others...
