Very good communication along with providing a wonderful final result.
I have already recommended
The service to other friends.
Thanks much!
Legacybox did a great job of transfering my family memories i would refer them to others to use for their memories
I had my daughter's childhood movies on VHS that's obsolete but now thanks to legacy box, I can watch it on DVD. I'm so happy!
I was thrilled after someone gave me some old slides from the 60's of my mom & dad, grandparents etc. My dad recently passed away & I was very excited to see these slides. After speaking to no less than 6 different people multiple times, I did my part with bagging, barcoding & all their necessary steps to send these in. Mailed them early November & should have received them by Christmas. Each step of their process they do email & text you where they are at with your order. Sounded like everything was moving along nicely. My last notification was that they shipped in JANUARY! Received the pkg. & they said they could not digitize the slides! No refund given! I had to contact them to find out why! The would not refund the shipping cost. They admitted it was their error that someone should have told me when they received them that they could not be processed. Over 2 months to receive an empty box back! Khristy the supposed "manager" was just awful. How a large company like that can treat customers. No thorough process although they make it seem like they know what they're doing! Luckily I found a local place, cheaper, easier & they did my job in ONE day! Go Local. These people should not be in business. Way too much work for the customer to send things in etc. only to be told after 2 months that they cannot process the order! These were just standard slides too! I am still working with them on the refund & hopefully they will make it right but I have a feeling it will be more of the same! Again, do all you can to find someone local! Can you imagine my shock when I opened the box to find nothing but my slides I sent them? They never warned me or anything & now I have to chase them for a refund! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
I bought a special on line and didn't read the fine print. I thought i was getting DVD's but received USB instead.
A great service at a great price! Our 8mm films were fragile, old. Bringing back old family memories brought so much happiness to everyone!
Thank you for your wonderfully kind review! LOVE to have done this service for you!
Got too expensive and could not afford it. 1st 10 was affordable but 2nd 10 was too high and didn't receive all my tapes or a lot was left off.
I couldn't be happier with my experience. I was kept informed of every step of the process. I would definitely recommend to others.
I think it is great that I could get a copy of my childhood memories
I am so thankful for what legacybox has done for me I would do it all over again
Most services charge by the foot to convert 16mm film. Legacybox does it by the reel. It ends up actually very cheap to have them convert the film.
After receiving our Legacybox, I felt our pictures would be in good hands. The box was new, heavyweight, and placed in another box. Very secure. The company appeared professional.
We sorted and arranged just over 2400 pictures. I dont need to tell you how long that took!
After weeks of not hearing from them, we discovered that since we had sent some additional pictures above what we had originally paid for ($1000), they stopped the process, BUT NEVER CONTACTED US FOR PAYMENT BALANCE!
Once we did, we only waited an additional 5-6 weeks!
The biggest problem arose when we received the box back. You would have NEVER thought it the same company. An old, oversized, previously used, tapped up corrugated box arrived. Inside were multiple sheets of crinkled brown paper, and all our picture envelopes thrown in below w/ no rhyme or reason. Now came the fun part. Where is the thumb drive?! We began to think that possibly it was coming in separate cover. While sorting through again, we discovered a very small gray OPENED envelope... maybe 2 x 4. The thumbdrive must have been inside. Resorting again, and shaking the crinkled paper we heard a clink. The teeny thumbdrive had been somewhere in this crinkled paper. It could have easily been thrown away. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! HOW UNPROFESSIONAL CAN YOU BE?! We had just spent over $1000 w/ a fly by night company! One would think that w/ the size of this box, you would receive the thumbdrive in its own small Legacybox. Easy to find
I just wish we had read these reviews before making this decision, but we were taken in by the radio ad and we were VERY anxious to get rid of 30+ albums of pictures and consolidate them to a thumbdrive.
BUYER BEWARE!
I am one of those folks who carried around a VHS camera until they were no longer made. So, I had about 40-50 tapes. I used a local place that first transferred them to VHS to dvd and that worked out ok.
But Legacybox does so much advertising, I decided to give it a try. Things went well at first with mailing the tapes out. I paid for the thumbdrive and downloadable link. And from there things went downhill...
I sent the tapes out in July, and I was told "due to supply chain issues & amount of orders this may take longer than expected." I thought, "Fine. They warned me."
Well, fast forward to November, Legacybox is still texting me about discounts, still sending me spam, and still NO order received. In November, I finally wrote back that if I did not get my tapes soon, I would ask for a full refund.
One week later, the order was finished. But the work seemed lazy and poor quality. For example, I used to do commercials. Some of my tapes were only 30 seconds long. Was it really necessary to send me a 3GB file that is 5 hrs of blank footage with a 30 second commercial on the front?
Not only did the size of the files make playing files difficult from the Google drive, I had to make the extra step of editing out the blank footage after getting the thumbdrive; thumbdrives that were not too impressive, not packed well in the box, only came in a grey envelope, and were so small they could have easily been lost.
What bothered me more than anything is that they refused to transfer some tapes due to adult content. These were private tapes between me and my wife! I wanted that content transferred. But apparently Legacybox thinks nudity between a married couple violates their TOS. I thought maybe they went to Catholic school until I found they had no problem transferring a tape where my brother recorded over my footage with "Skin-emax" porn.
This told me the tapes were not given any attention, and were just hard transferred with very poor quality assurance.
It was a huge waste of money. About $950 dollars wasted. Oh...and I cannot share the google drive/downloadable link of my videos with anyone.
Just a rip off. I would avoid.
Performed services EXACTLY as promised... value extrordinaire! Strongly recommend. Family members loved product!
That is wonderful, Ben! We are so glad that you and your family were able to re live these precious memories!
Overall quality of the product is good. Howeve, r it takes forever to get what you ordered. Extremely slow process.
Hi Jose, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience! We are so happy to hear you are satisfied with your overall experience and are honored in taking part in preserving your memories. We do apologize for the delay in processing times. We have been working with a limited staff to ensure the health and safety of our team, as well as implementing social distancing procedures. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
We submitted 16mm and 8mm film. The finished product is priceless and much better than we expected from these old films!
Purchased a 20 item box for my wife as a Christmas gift to have our aging miniDV library of videos (mostly of our now grow children) converted to a more usable format. After a long wait- more than a month to process- we received our collection of DVDs, a flash drive and even digital downloads as part of a promotion. Upon viewing the digitized footage we saw horrible pixelation, horizontal grey lines on screen and, in general, just terrible picture quality. We were so upset, thinking that our tapes had degraded to the point of being unwatchable. We then viewed on a PC the material on the flash drive only to find that the defects in that footage were different (in the same scene), but equally terrible in quality. This led us to break out our old miniDV camcorder to view our originals...
We were so happy to see clear, crisp video & audio on our originals that was uncompromised. Even the tapes that were rudely labeled (over the tape reels) with a sticker that read, "Previous Damage" played without any defects. This leads me to a few conclusions:
1. Legacy box has some obvious flaws in their digital to digital conversion process, specifically when dealing with miniDV media
2. Their quality control process does not ensure that original video quality is preserved. There is no way that anyone had a look at our converted videos.
3. I cannot be the only customer to have had a similar experience. The miniDV format is aging and players are not readily available.
The only kudos I can muster for Legacy Box is for their prompt response to my concerns, and that after spending a weekend validating that their process is broken, they issued a full refund.
Perhaps their picture scanning, VHS conversion and handling of other formats is great. But stay away from them when it comes to miniDV conversion.
Thanks for the read.

Hi Thom! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and experience with our service. You're absolutely right, we do our very best to maintain the original quality of your precious memories. Tapes naturally deteriorate every time they are played and when they are played on equipment that did not receive up-to-date maintenance. Tape players at home can cause more damage than good. This is because the "heads" in the player become offset over time and actually distort the tape itself, forcing it into play. That said, we cannot account for damage or improper storage/use over time.
Additionally looking at your order, a significant portion of your Tapes were determined to have existing damage that we did our very best to repair at no extra cost to you. With regard to that, we'd rather try our best to get you a file at all rather than simply not transfer it because of the damage these items incurred over time. Despite attempting to transfer the items, repairing them and then trying once more we're still happy to hear you agreed to a full refund of the service we've provided and that you're still able to keep the digital files we did make. Though you were not entirely happy with the files, we hope you'll still continue to enjoy those, on us!

My experience started out fairly well with half of the order being processed on time. Although I didn't order downloads, they sent them anyway. The last half of the order never came. After contacting customer service, a long search began trying to track down a home movie and audio tapes. After more time, the audio was finally found and downloaded. The home movie was also sent as a download a little later, but wasn't the home movie, but slides of another person's order. Bottom line, they never could find the digitized home movie. It turns out after looking at what they sent back, the home movie was never even processed as the canister was still taped shut. The slides I sent back were returned out of order in different bags. The VHS tapes I sent in weren't even put back in their clam cases properly and not even closed. Very unprofessional. I was initially promised half of a refund which never came. Then after further screw ups, I was promised a full refund and do date (almost 2 months later) nothing has been sent. Not only dd they not follow through on what they were to have done on the order, they have lied and kept my money. And to those of you looking to have slides digitized, they will come back in raw form. They don't even blow the dust off them let alone clean them up -- so you will have to do that with an editing program. Stay away from LegacyBox/Southtree. You can do much, much better elsewhere. Rush Limbaugh needs to re-evaluate his endorsement of these clowns. The on site communication absolutely stopped halfway through the order and only resumed after the fact when they were called on the carpet about the order. I am thankful nothing got lost in the return, but I didn't even get the promised DVDs. How LegacyBox has stayed in business this long baffles me in looking at so many other terrible reviews. More can be said, but my best advice is to search elsewhere if you want your precious items digitized. Shame on LegacyBox for their poor service and their thievery!
I purchased a Legacy Box Kit to convert a WWII 16mm newsreel.
I found the website to be jam packed full of the positive things Legacy Box does coupled with high pressure sales jargon for extras and added expense. HOWEVER, there was NO information of LIMINTATIONS or things that COULD NOT be converted - everything was roses! I paid for the service.
When I received the box there was an instructional pamphlet included in the box that was much more concise - they DO NOT PROVIDE AUDIO on their conversions even if it is on the original! That does me no good with a newsreel.
I wrote an e-mail with contact info and got no response. I called TWICE and waited 30 minutes for help before opting for a call back - which I NEVER RECEIVED. I wrote a second e-mail with contact info and STILL no response.
So, I have a $105 cardboard box sitting here that is unusable and can't get Legacy Box to talk to me about a refund (so yes they have a generous refund policy, but you can't get ahold of them to do it).
There is NO EXCUSE for this type of BAD SERVICE. And unless you want to gamble that they do your conversion correctly - or even can, I would highly recommend you not do business with Legacy Box!
Hi, Dan. I am sorry that you have not been able to reach us. While the phones can be busy sometimes, we do go through every email. I don't know why you have not received a reply, but I definitely want to look into this for you. You can reply here with your order details and I can take care of the refund. As you said, unfortunately, film reels with sound is not a media type that we can convert. We try to make this information as transparent as possible, and it can be found in our help pages as well as the Welcome Guide that you mentioned. Thank you for your feedback in this matter so that we can work to improve! Let me know if you need anything else.
I wanted to have some of my father's old reels film converted to digital. Having heard good things about Legacy Box I decided to use them as my transfer service. When getting ready to return the box for processing, I though I might as well send in some of my old 8mm tapes The process was very long. It took 6 weeks to get the items back to be able to view items that have not been seen in years. The file for one of my tapes that was returned was only 14 min long. I watched the video, then looked at the label on the tape and I knew quite a few things were missing from the returned file. I called Legacy Box and was given a label to have this shipped back and reprocessed. 2 1/2 weeks later the tape was retuned with a new digital copy. To my amazement the file went from 14 min to almost 2 hrs of video. I was very excited to see that it was fixed and started to watch the video and disappointment set in again. The audio for the tape sounds like an adult talking on a Charlie Brown special. I called L egacy Box again and was informed I have used my one time complementary return. I would now need to pay for the shipping up front to send it back. If it is a problem with the transfer they would refund my shipping cost at that time or they would just refund the cost for this tape to be transferred. Neither option was a good option for me. I've already send the tape back once and it is still not right. Now looking at my other files from the other tapes I'm wondering if video is missing from those tapes also but not knowing what is on the tape because it wasn't labeled. I will never know the answer to this question. Don't waste your time with Legacy Box. Very slow and not very good quality assurance to make sure the items are correct when the transfer is done.
Hi Blake, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize that we were unable to convert that tape to your standards. We always try to get the best quality conversion possible. It looks like you opted for a refund for that item instead of another return. Our customer service team is available 7 days a week at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Legacybox has a rating of 2.3 stars from 819 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Legacybox most frequently mention customer service, thumb drive and poor quality. Legacybox ranks 5th among Video Converter sites.
Hi Cheryl, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. First off, I'm so sorry to hear about the recent passing of your father, I understand how difficult that can be. We do record any and all correspondence received so I did go back and review that and I see that you made a phone call to us in October regarding some general questions on placing an order where you did mention you had some slides from the 60's but no specifics were given. I wholeheartedly apologize for the confusion there as we CAN process slides that are the standard 35mm and 126. I see that your slides were not either of these formats so unfortunately we were unable to process them. I'm not certain what format your slides were, but I typically refer to this website for easy identification: https://digitalcopycat.com/slide_negative_identification.html. Our website does list the formats we have the equipment to process here: https://help.legacybox.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004160647-What-formats-do-you-convert- I apologize if that could have been more clear! I do apologize that these were not notated at receiving that these slides were not a format that we can process. It would be my assumption that the format that you do have may have been very similar to to one that we CAN process so it may have been missed due to human error. Our average processing time is about 6-8 weeks and orders with standard processing guaranteed by Christmas delivery needed to arrive to our facility no later than October 28th. I see that your order arrived to us on 11/03 which is why it was not completed until early January. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the average turnaround time before placing an order as well as listing the information on the email sent when your order passes through receiving, again I apologize if that could have been more transparent. I did review your correspondence with our customer service manager, Khristy I apologize if you felt that her service was "awful" I can see that she was simply trying to provide some context to what happened with your order and ensure she could assist you to the best of her abilities. I see that she had requested for our finance team to cut a check for you as you did not want to be refunded back to your credit card for the total of your order, sans shipping as that is our policy referenced here: https://help.legacybox.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002000374-What-s-your-cancellation-policy-. This applies to all orders, even if they have not been sent in to us for processing, but the initial box had been shipped out. For context, the shipping charge is paid to the shipping company. Since your order was not processed, we absolutely do not expect you to pay for that, however the shipping was utilized and the shipping company was paid for that service accordingly. Whenever items cannot be processed in an order, the originals in the box are labeled as such for easy identification as well. For context a refund is not automatically issued as you do have the option to opt for a credit instead to send in different items to be processed, or in situations such as yours, customers do not prefer the refund to be issued back to their original method of payment but would prefer a check instead. I do regret that you were not made aware that your slides were not a format we are able to work with, but I am glad to see that you found a local company that was able to accommodate your request in a quick and efficient manner. If there is ever anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to reach back out to our team at questions@legacybox.com.
