It's annoying how many fake definitions there are on this site. So many fake definitions made by people with too much time on their hands. Please just stay away

Offensive

Definitions for Israel & Israeled are antisemitic. Not funny as some reviewers have stated. Pathetic & juvenile definitions to cause more hatred.

As an antisocial 18 year old bisexual, it always peaks my interest when I hear someone use slang such as "slayyy" or "ayo" to where I actually want to look up what said phrase means. That's what the urban dictionary is supposed to be for, right? Well, if you're looking for legitimate definitons then, uhh, it may take you a while to find a definition that satisfies you. A dictionary that was originally meant as a source for finding the meaning of popular social media slang has turned into a horror fest of racism towards black people, asian people, hispanic people, indian people, etc., white men trying their hardest to make it seem like they're an oppressed minority, homo/transphobia and of course the good-ol bi pan and omnisexual erasure, making fun of disabled people, and (this one's probably the most abundant of all) the sexism. Search up "white girl" and I DARE you to count how many "definitions" are just people $#*!ing about "hurr durr starbucks and ugg boots hurr durr they're so basic" without getting bored halfway. Those definitions are not only cringeworthy to read, but also very hypocritical considering white boys are depicted to be like some oppressed group on there.

Honestly, if you want to figure out the meaning to certain slang, just pay close attention to the context in which it's normally used. I figured out "slay" was basically another way of calling a man or woman "cute" or "pretty" after seeing it used alot. Trust me, figuring out the meaning yourself is way more worth it than using the horror show of a website called Urban Dictionary.

This is not a dictionary at all. The entire English language can be defined in 2 million entries. There is ALOT less slang words. Peckham claims to have 7 million definitions. But they're not definitions at all, just stuff people have uploaded, completely unverified, sometimes just made up by the writer for the purpose of being uploaded to this site. No law court in it's right mind would use this stuff as a reference. Also, it doesn't even have the most current slang or definitions. The pandemic has been a banner event for neologisms and Urban Dictionary doesn't even have them. Unfortunately, your kids will be routed here from Google if they type in a slang word. Peckham's site will come up first, second or third in the ten I typed in. It's extremely misogynistic. Also, the site is racist as well, a Jewish organization has asked Peckham to remove Auschwitz definitions, a aborigine woman offensive characterizations of aborigines, I have asked him to remove extremely offensive degrading, misogynistic sex acts done to women like angry hitler and dirty sanchez, and he has ignored everyone. Because of it's association with the alt right extremist groups who commit mass murders, you will find weird definitions for things like a page long definition of feminist, which claims that they want to kill men and usurp mens rights, which espouses their doctrine for anti feminism. Finally, when I tried to leave a comment about Peckham's site after one of his interviews with a blogger my comment was deleted, and I has polite and argued with facts. He or the blogger suppress any comments that don't suit them. In addition, he is planning to add the feature that people will be able to upload videos acting out their definitions and call it Urban Dictionary TV. Given that so much of his content is misogynistic, your children may be subjected to some pretty graphic sexual images with women who are not consenting. Do not go here or let your children go here.

Very strange
September 28, 2020

This website is strange, but not exactly in a good way. I know most defintions are meant to be jokes, but what's the point? A website with crude sexual defintions I never wanted to hear, especially made - up words that sound like Glenn Quagmire's fantasy. It's not informative, and whenever I come across this site it's pretty annoying. Very harmless, though very annoying.

Only visit this site to get a good laugh, since it's not an actual dictionary. The website itself looks very 2000's and cheap.

Everyone saying that it's a bad site doesn't realize that this isn't the real definition. If you want real answers other than something that doesn't show up in the real dictionary go to dictionary.com.

This website used to be really great, but it is getting bogged down with too many user postings and too many "definitions" for words/phrases that are unknown outside of someone's neighborhood or close friends.

Rather informative at times to find out the meanings of words I sometimes bump into. However I`ve seen some of those which have slightly other meanings - would be great if it had some function of editing or smtn like that.

When Dictionary.com fails you... -... try Urban Dictionary. It's more likely to have what you're looking for and it will be a whole lot funnier when you find it too.
Also, submit your own definitions or vote for your favorites. However, browsing is not very effective because of the sheer volume of entries, but the 'word of the day' and 'random' lookups can be fun.

I agree with most of the reviews: Urban Dictionary is a really fun and interesting site. And especially useful when looking for a name for your brand new creation (your site, business, program or app). Doesn't hurt to search here after googling the term, just to avoid surprises.

It's a pretty fun site! Can easily burn an hour on there, just don't expect to find any serious/factual content. As long as you let go of that, have fun looking up urban definitions as well as writing up your own. P.S. Don't forget to look up your own name... its a must!

If you are looking for a word or catch phrase meaning that cannot be found in Webster's or in your handy Encyclopedia, I would suggest that you make use of this site called as online urban dictionary. When we come across a "gangsta" language, we cannot help but be confused with what the other is writing and talking about.
With the openness of online communication nowadays and the steady influence of social networking, the use of slang terms easily spread around making it sometimes hard to comprehend what the other person is talking about.
I have seen many bloggers and friends routinely including these slang terms, and I think it is best to know what they mean so I won't get lost in the process. With the online urban dictionary and its newly developed app on your mobile gadget, I can easily find the answers I am looking for without any problem.

This is another really fun site. If you don't understand a particular slang saying or word or you just wanna learn some fun new terms, this is the site to go to. It's really pretty humorous as well as informative.

Someone told me one day that someone "fartled" them. I said "what?" They told me to look the word up on urban dictionary and I did and it gave me quite a chuckle, lol. It's obviously a slang, made up term, lol. I'll let you look this one up on your own, lol.

So, next time one of your teenagers seem to be speaking in a foreign language, just check the urban dictionary to see if you can decipher it. ;)

This website is great for looking up words that traditional dictionaries do not contain. This is a site I visit frequently to look up some of texting slang (I'm a teen and I don't know what half of the words mean) and other non-traditional words. This site is somewhat user managed. This means that users like you and I add the words and definitions. This also means that some definitions may not be accurate, but user can also rate definitions which helps push incorrect meanings out of the way. Higher rated definitions are then pushed to the top of the page. This website also earns the rating of NSFW (Not Safe For Work) due to potentially vulgar (especially sexual) language.

Got to credit LilRebel for inspiring me to review this, but man I love Urban Dictionary. When I was 12 I would have loved nothing more than looking up dirty slang words to impress my friends. Who I am kidding, I still do, which is why I sign up for the Urban Dictionary word of the day. So the next time your a girl wants to "DTR" you'll be prepared http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=DTR&defid=*******

This site should be a site that parents and those that work with teenagers should be using often. They should bookmark it. They can put in a phrase they've heard their children say and see what it is that they are exactly stating. There really should no longer be an unhip adult. Well they may not be cool, but they'll be hip enough to understand what they youngins are stating.

As the other review stated this site is hilarious. You can go to random word and laugh. This is the addicting site for readers of information as is YouTube for those that like movies and videos. It's fun and you can even join and pick definitions that should be on the site or not be on the site. You can help the site. That is always awesome. You can also vote on what are the better definition for that word.

The front page is great because it has words of the day listed there. It's another great site that has a great long history of existence ahead of it.

Totally LOVE the f*ck outta this site (look that one up on the site while you're at it!)! It's awesome for many reasons, but mostly because it is made by entirely by its users! It has over 6 million definitions of "sayings", "slang", "phrases", "quotes", and everything in between.

You can browse "definitions" by clicking the random button, or search through each letter, or find a specific word/definition/phrase/etc by entering it in the search bar. If it doesn't have that EXACT one (if you were off by one word or something), it will show you matches that are similar to the one you entered. Also, you can choose to vote them up or down.

There's so much to do on here. There's a word of the day, and you can look through the "dictionary" or "thesaurus" or "names" (where you can look up your name and see what previous users have to say about it in their "name meanings").

Everything on here is completely hilarious. I could spend hours on here.

They even have a store where you can have the definition of the day (or any definition on the site) printed on a shirt, coffee mug, mouse pad, and even a temporary tattoo!

The "Edit" option shows you pending words/definitions and YOU vote whether it should be published on the site or not.

I cannot say enough about this site. Just love it.
