I have been charged 8.99 multiple times within the last year and no email of mine is linked to an account of theirs. I have reached out three times now and no response, and I'm afraid they will simply reply with "we can't find your account information." Well that's funny Scribd, because neither can I. So we can both stop this little dance and I will take my refunds and cancellations now, thank you. Ticket #*******
I was about to sign up because they had a detailed description of a Harvard Review case study I needed. I figured I would get the case and use it to study for my final which is in 3 weeks. Cancel my subscription within the 30 day or continue using if I found more useful info. You all saved me from a world class headache
Hi Dave - you can absolutely cancel your subscription with us within 30 days, risk free. We have hundreds of thousands of readers on our site and we're happy to help you in any way at help@scribd.com. Thanks!
Do not use... Tried cancelling my subscription 3 months ago and continue to get charged with no responses to my multiple emails. Will have to cancel my debit card as well. Never even used it, just a big headache...
Hi Christy! I sent you a private message through SiteJabber on August 4th but have not heard back from you yet. We would love to ensure that your subscription has been canceled successfully and we can issue any refunds that you are eligible for. Please let me know the email address associated with your account, or the ticket number that you got when you wrote in to us. We should be able to find you that way. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Service
This company charged my debit card without me ever having used or heard of this company. They charged my credit card for $8.99. I thought oh well maybe I got a free trial membership (even though this rings no bells) and therefore checked BOTH emails I use for these types of things and guess what... NO email/username records found. Additionally, they say they offer no refunds under any circumstances... how convenient... Rip people off for $8.99 and dont give refunds. Unbelievable. Im taking this action further... this is unacceptable.
Hi Matthew - I'm very sorry to hear about this and we absolutely do offer refunds. Could you please reply to this with your ticket number? If you don't have one, please send us an email to help@scribd.com with ATTENTION JAMES in the subject line and I'll personally issue your refund.
My wife pays this credit card bill and thought Scribd was something I used for my work so she kept paying monthly fees for at least two years. It is something I have never used or accessed. Tried to cancel my account but one does not apparently exist. I requested a cancelation over a week ago and they have now charged me another month. I found a "no-reply" email from "Slideshare" in October 2020 thanking me for being a "LinkedIn and SlideShare" member and informing me that scribd was going to take over Slideshare business on December 1. I have never heard of Slideshare either. I have never given LinkedIn my credit card number.
UPDATE 5/17/2023
Their customer support did reach out to me.
My daughter used their service about 3 years ago when she was in high school and the account I was getting billed for is under her email. We will hopefully get this resolved now.
Hello Roger, I am happy to help explain any charges and cancel the subscription. I will need some additional information to locate the account causing the charges. Please submit a ticket through this link and your request will be escalated straight to my inbox: bit.ly/social-support-help. If you already have a support ticket open please let me know your ticket number. Thanks! -LC
Signed up for unlimited reading and after listening to parts of a few audio books, suddenly most of the titles on my saved list are "unavailable" until next month.
Most of the books I no longer have access to are current titles--some of which I had already started reading. The only things I seem to be able to access now are older titles & short audio presentations, most of which I can find for free elsewhere on the web.
The service they're advertising is not "unlimited" by any definition.
I'm sure it's buried in the terms of service somewhere, but it appears that even when paying for "unlimited" service, you're limited to a certain number of books, then they curtail your access.
Hi Andy - We’re sorry that certain specific books are temporarily unavailable to you right now. While we cannot guarantee the immediate availability of every title, all titles found using our Explore page should be available for unlimited reading right away: https://www.scribd.com/explore Still have questions? Email help@scribd.com - Thanks!
Scribd makes you go through a number of pages to cancel your membership, many of which do not make it clear that you haven't cancelled yet (except the penultimate non-cancellation page, which does warn you that you have not cancelled yet). I'm glad my credit card was cancelled; otherwise their charges may have gone unnoticed for months, and that's certainly something they want to happen. AVOID
Scribd offers a great range of books, audio books, documents, magazines and sheet music all for one low monthly price. In response to some of the other reviews, it is clear when signing up for the free month that you will be billed unless the subscription is cancelled. The cancellation process is really easy. If you love audiobooks and reading I'd recommend giving it a go.
Thanks for reading with us Nick! Happy reading & listening.
Live conversations are not part of Scribd's customer service, nor is the 30 day FREE trial. I cancelled the service immediately after signing up, however while reviewing recent credit card charges I found the recurring $8.99 monthly charge. Only immediate recourse is to block further payments with Credit Card company until Scribd responds to this review.
More of my time, none of Scribd's.
Hi John! That sounds like the verification transaction that is explained in the confirmation email you received upon sign up. It's not an actual charge; the system does a transaction to verify that the card used is valid but it's automatically voided when it occurs so the money will never process out of your account. It should be listed on your account a few days as "pending" and then disappear as if it never happened; the exact timeframe on when it disappears will depend on your bank however. It is just a method used to verify that the card provided at sign up is valid so the service can be successfully added to your account. I apologize for any trouble it's caused for you! Our support team can confirm this for you if you could send us an email to help@scribd.com with your account email address. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
Did the free trial and received no e-mail that they were about to start charging me as they stated they would. So I'm out 2 months with a product I never used. Needless to say I'm not happy.
Hello Sara, I am very sorry to hear about your experience and wanted to reach out to see if you would like any assistance canceling the subscription or requesting a refund. WOW, what a scam! Never signed up for this, having recurring payments withdrawn but when I log onto Scribd's sketchy website using the log in with Facebook tab it says I have no account. Trying to work with bank to stop this.
Hi Amy! I’m so glad that our Trust and Safety support agent, Gary, was able to assist you with this and resolve the issues you were experiencing with your recurring payments. Please let us know if you have any other questions and/or concerns. Thanks again! - Donni, Scribd Customer Support
Don't ever give your credit card number to this site. They will charge you after cancelling. I had to cancel my credit card in order a new one for them to not be able to continue charging me. Avoid at all costs.
Hi Michael, we're truly sorry for the difficulties you had canceling your subscription with us. When you fully cancel your subscription, we'll ensure it remains active until the end of the month that you've paid for, but will not bill you again. It sounds like the charges may be originating from a duplicate account or unsuccessful cancellation, as it is impossible for us to bill a deactivated account.
We recommend checking out this article on how to successfully cancel your subscription located here https://support.scribd.com/hc/en-us/articles/210134046. For further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at help@scribd.com for support from our account specialists. Thanks!
Scribd is a highly excellent site especially for authors and other writers who are looking for ways to bring attention to their work on the market. In the realm of publishing one will know that advertising costs are quite expensive but any free advertising is always well received and very well appreciated by those who want their writing materials to gain exposure on the internet.
What I like about scribd.com is that the free advertising and promotion potential of an author or writer is welcome especially if one is trying to find inexpensive ways to advertise their work online.
I joined scribd.com for trial in Dec 27,2016. After i cancelled may payment card and membership, they continuously charge money about $10 every month.
They started charging about $10 in Jan. 25,2017 and it continued to Jun. 25 2017.
What the F*CK this site is. Why they do this to me without any notification?
After writing a letter to *******@scribd..., they refunded about $10 (max 1 month bill)
Already paid, but refused to refund more.
Hi Rich. I sent you a private message last week and have yet to hear back. Additional information was requested in order to locate your account and issue any refunds. Please respond with requested information. Thank you. -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I joined Scribd quite a while back because I listen to about 5 or 6 audiobooks a month. Scribd seemed like the perfect option for me. $8.99 a month for unlimited reading and listening. Sounds almost too good to be true, well, that's because it is! They post many MANY books that are going to be available in a month's time. They make those books "available" for a very short time (less than a day) then take them away and say they will be available in another month. And this just keeps happening. I can't tell you how infuriating it is to listen to an hour or two of a book, go back to the site only to find that it's gone. I will not fall for their tricks & lies any more. I would tell anyone thinking of joining, don't do It! They get your hopes up month after month only to let you down every single time.
Hi Angela - We’re sorry these specific books are temporarily unavailable right now. While we cannot guarantee the immediate availability of every title, all titles found using our Explore page should be available right away: https://www.scribd.com/explore Still have questions? Email help@scribd.com - Thanks!
I have not used it for more than an year. I cancelled the subscription few months back, but I am still being charged $8.99 each month. Since it is automatically deducted from my account, I did not pay attention, but it looks like it is normal. Please look at all your review. These are all 1 out of 5.
Hi Iam, our support staff would be more than happy to help you with this. Please reach out to help@scribd.com to connect with a support specialist, then update this review with your ticket # so we can follow up with you as soon as possible, and get this canceled for you. Thanks!
I've been trying to access my account by following the forgotten username/password on their website and it's misleading. I receive notifications that my email is in use and a password reset has been sent. Yes, spam and junk folders have been checked. It's impossible to get a hold of someone. But I keep getting charged monthly.
Thank you for informing us! We apologize for any trouble you've had resetting your password and contacting support. We can help escalate your case. If you've emailed us, you should have received a ticket number. Please let us know your ticket number and we can use that to send your ticket to the top of our queue. If you haven't emailed us yet, be sure to do so using this link: https://scr.bi/assist and we'll ensure one of our agents gets back to you within 24 hours -EC
I thought that the online versions of Scribd documents were deliberately slow, clunky, impossible to navigate and that's why they ask for money. However, you pay your money and get exactly the same. Then you cancel and they keep on charging you! They are crooks, plain and simple - and even write their own obviously fake reviews. Avoid Scribd at all costs. They need to go bust and disappear as quickly as possible.
Apologies for the troubles, a member of our support team can definitely help you with this! Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
I have numerous problems with this company. The most frustrating is that their app does not work well. I've downloaded audiobooks that disappear from my phone for no reason. And when listening, it's not easy to go from streaming to using the download. Site navigation is terrible. As for content, their selection is limited. And much of it is abridged- yet they don't tell you it's abridged. As for cancellation, when you cancel, they won't give you your money back for unused credits. That seems like theft to me. STAY AWAY from this company.
This company has a questionable marketing strategy which is typically a negative method of obtaining a profit by "appearing" to offer documents and information that might be of help however the "previews" that are shown are not nearly enough to justify a purchase decision. This is a bad thing because it is a negative option or also referred to under other descriptions where the buyer is forced to subscribe in order to see if the document they need is actually available. Another serious flaw is that many of these documents are open source and are freely available without having to subscribe and pay a monthly charge. I have not found using this service to be of value.
