Told them we needed a one-time consult. Was told 3 times someone would get back to us within 24 hours. The third time I offered to pay for the consult. I said if our situation is too small, just say that so we could move on. "We may be able to help you with that." was the response. 2 seconds to exercise professional courtesy would have prevented this review e.g. Sorry, this is not the type of case our site can help you with. How stupid.

Lawyers beware the leads are fake. I received about 25 "leads" and not one of them was real. Sometimes the numbers were not real numbers. When a person would pick up my call I would often hear "who are you looking for" or "how did you get this number". No customer service and if you ask where their leads come from you get a canned response that their sources are legitimate and protected. Stay away and save your money! Mike B. NY attorney.

We are a law firm in New York. We purchased a program from them pursuant to which they were supposed to provide us with legitimate case leads for two practice areas - motor vehicle accidents and personal injury cases. After two months, we didn't receive a single usable lead. Most of these so-called leads were stale - they were months and in some cases, years old. After you attempt to contact the leads, you have to then request credit, but their process is automated and doesn't always issue credit. Their customer service is horrendous. No one responds to phone calls or emails. I receive one stock email telling me I could cancel the monthly auto-renewals, but I could not get a refund. Even though I had a large account balance, they continued to charge my credit card each month for more leads.

This is supposed to be a reputable company with a long history, but this program is a total sham. It is a fraud and should be shut down or sanctioned.

If I could give no stars, I would. We paid for leads for workers' comp. Most of the "leads" we got appeared to be fake. Some of the people who supposedly posted the leads told us "I did not post any inquiry" or "I posted that three years ago." These folks get your money first and then will not give you a credit for all the bad leads they charge you for. Every now and then you do get a legitimate lead that can turn into a real case, but you have to weed through a bunch of apparently fabricated ones to find the occasional legitimate one. All in all, not worth it. I am in a national lawyer group and lawyers all over the country in that group are telling me that they are experiencing the same problems with Martindale-Nolo.

I have a will created in Nolo's Willmaker Plus App. But now I need to revise it. I now get an error message "Sorry. Quicken WillMaker can't open "C\Users\...pfl".
I tried to get assistance online at their website. They have NO "help" or "support" tab. Nothing, nodda, nil. Finally, a chat window pops up; Oh thankfully, I thought! Started a chat, specifying I needed help with their app. I got requests for my phone number, email, location, etcetera, so they could connect me with an attorney! After clearly stating that I needed help with the app, I was told "We can only help connect you with an attorney." So much for my $137, wasted time and effort!

Software download just a con
August 8, 2022

I ordered a software download (Willmaker 2022) from the Nolo.com website. Received confirmation saying I would receive an email in a few minutes, providing the link to download the program. Two days I have received no email and their phone customer service *******158) will not answer the phone or respond to VM. I checked Amazon and the two reviews I read said the same thing: unable to download the software. Total scam.

This site is a joke. Connected with a Customer Service person on 3 days in a row asking for legal assistance with an attorney. I was never connected with attorney despite the representative saying she would have one contact me within a few hours each day I called in. This is just a scam.

Wills and Trusts
August 11, 2022

I had a question about their Wills & Trusts software. I called their customer service department, left a message because no one answered the phone. They never called back. I emailed them with my question. They never responded. Obviously, Nolo does not value customers.

Don't waste your time on this scam. You will not get an attorney's help. Some 20something years old receptionist just gonna ask you a bunch of questions without any explanation or reasoning. By the time you gave them all the info, you could have gone to an actual attorney and get the help you needed.

Our business: reputable law firm with over a decade of legal experience.
My role is to help the law firm grow.
Earlier this month we purchased leads, we were told were pre-screened (they were not, no biggie).
We were told we would receive credit for leads that were not in our area (we were not).
We were told we would receive credit for leads that were not in our field of practice (we were not).
We were told we would receive credit for leads that were spam (we were not).

So, $1800, wasted.

Horrible attorney
August 28, 2022

Brad Bernadt was our attorney for a medical malpractice case he was working with us for almost 11 months the disappeared one day just switched lawfirms. I Found out almost week later by his secretary. Also he dragged us down a road of lies. Never did he hire a expert witness or send records to one as he stated in the email I have also he was sending the records to different attorneys to review. I had to beg him to order medical records that took him over 5 months to get then when I asked him why it was taking so long just to do a review for he sends me a copy of the contract we signed stating he can drop the case if they feel it would be unsecssful. So I apologized and hoped I was wrong and he is doing what a good attorney would do. Well I was wrong he took such advantage of two people who had already been through so much. He caused us so much emotional stress and anxiety I would not recommend hiring him!

While helping out my brother who had received a notification that his house would be sold during the next months Sheriff's Sale - searching for any/all guidance - I found the NOLO website and submitted requested information. Immediately received a reply with 3 law firms that might be able to help. I went on line of 1 of the 3, filled out some information and that same day received an e-mail directly from an individual at the law firm. We traded a few e-mails, traded phone calls, spoke on the phone (free consultation) and with her suggestions - The Sherriff's Sale has been cancelled! No purchase was needed. I am a retired accountant nearing Medicare age helping out a family member that NOLO provided options that ended up saving the day - THANK YOU!

Online will maker - poor
November 30, 2022

Nolo's online will maker is a poor product. Online works sometime, other times, asking to relog in. Unable to access your will several times over the past months. Once the will was deleted. Customer support will not assist. I do not recommend this product, or the Nolo online will maker.

I was told that Nolo has a reasonable refund policy for bogus leads. My first lead was along the lines of "I want to talk to a lawyer because my employer is invading my mind and harassing me telepathically." I asked for a refund, right? What this poor woman needs, no lawyer can provide. Refund refused. Nolo employs high pressure sales tactics, now with three different individuals per account, so that you can easily spend half an hour on the phone just getting one simple matter attended to, and then they nickel and dime you to death. It's an exercise in aggravation. Just. Don't. Bother.

Near Worthless Leads
April 19, 2020

Near worthless leads. Run don't walk away from this company. Worst lead quality of any company I have encountered in 20 years of practicing bankruptcy law. Honestly, you would do better randomly collecting 20 names from a phone book and cold calling them.

They push the limit
December 10, 2018

NOLO basically pushes the limit of what attorneys will pay for advertising to make sure it barely pays out - I'm not sure it does even then with the time and effort it takes to actually call on the terrible leads we get. There are just enough valid leads that it makes sense for us to keep purchasing them but they are by far the winners in this scenario. Really getting tired of it. We are still customers but I don't recommend this company at all.

Legal Resource Books and Forms - For reliable, easy-to-read, do-it-yourself books about legal topics, I highly recommend Nolo Press. Their books are well written and typically intended for non-lawyer audiences.

Years ago, I practiced as a solo practitioner in corporate law; and when my clients asked me for recommendations on law books where they could learn more about a particular topic (e.g., copyright or trademark law), I often sent them to Nolo.com to find a particular book.

For example, if you're interested in learning how to incorporate your business on your own (without engaging a lawyer), you might read background in Nolo's "How to Form Your Own California Corporation" -- and then use some of their forms on CD.

Nolo has a rating of 1.6 stars from 90 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Nolo most frequently mention customer service, bad leads and phone number. Nolo ranks 72nd among Legal Documents sites.
