Maxsold exhibits a mixed reputation, with positive feedback highlighting efficient communication, smooth auction processes, and satisfactory customer experiences for both buyers and sellers. Many users appreciate the value they find in auctions and commend the professionalism of the staff. However, significant concerns arise regarding misrepresentation of items, lost goods, and communication issues, particularly during pickups. Customers also express dissatisfaction with the handling of complaints and the company's response to service failures. Overall, while Maxsold has a solid base of satisfied users, addressing operational shortcomings and enhancing customer support could improve their reputation further.

I love Maxsold. Most of the furniture in my house is from maxsold. I enjoy the drive to the different pick up sites, it gives me time with my son. We have picked up some awesome finds.
I feel like I was ripped off they take way too much and leave you with nothing wouldnt go with them again
I was pleased with the outcome of my MaxSold experience. I would recommend them as a good alternative to a weekend walkthrough sale.
I am emptying my 55+ year family home... There were lots of questions but never the same answer twice.
The photographers were sent to my house with new software on their iPhones (yes iPhones) and had problems taking and storing the pictures. When scheduling for the scheduling staff I never thought my house would be off limits for more than 2 weeks
I have been a buyer for a while now and the thrill of the win keeps me coming back, Everyone is always helpful and kind and take the safety of the customers very serious!
Thanks so much! We are so happy you are enjoying the auctions!
I know it is all about making a buck with most companies but it would be great to have a little integrity. I've noticed that they like to split up matching sets of things- for ex. Splitting up 6 dining chairs into two groups of three. This encourages bidding wars and drives up the price. Smart- but also a bit sleazy. The other day I witnessed a buyer stumble as he was leaving one of their auction sites and drop the dishes he was carrying. He had caught his arm on a broken door handle when exiting. The broken handle sticking out was obviously a hazard and should have been taped over or the door pushed open more so people could easily pass through it. I thought the staff would have offered to give him some kind of partial refund (the Max Sold portion) considering that they didn't provide a safe pathway in and out of the house free from hazards. All he got was an, oh, too bad they broke and they helped him pick up the pieces so the next buyer could enter.
Thank you for your feedback. We do split large groupings of furniture, dining or bedroom sets, however it is not for the reason noted. We are thinking of the buyers who may need one of the items from the set and not all as well as the process of getting the items from the location to their home. When we sell all the large items together - a completed bedroom suite, or dining table and 6 chairs, it limits who may want it. Not everyone will want a complete set, some only want a bed or a dresser or perhaps they need 4 chairs and not 6, they may also not have a large enough vehicle for carrying all items home. Many things go into the planning of the lots and the lot sizes in particular for the fully managed MaxSold auctions. Seller Managed auctions are a bit different as the sellers may wish to catalog slightly differently than we suggest.
I would be happy to look into the incident you reference above, if you can send the address or auction to our support team at support@maxsold.com
Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback, we always want to know how we can improve the process.
We bought 2 lots of cds today. Most were just cases and no cds. You don't have the opportunity to go through 100+ cds at the site during Covid and time allotted. Found out when we got home. We spend a lot of money with this company and if they don't make it right, we will never purchase again. $40 isn't a lot but the principle is. We cannot preview before we bid but never expected to be ripped off so blatantly. Will post the resolution once they decide
Hello Michelle,
Apologies for your less than stellar bidding experience. Have you sent in your request for a refund? Please be sure to send that to www.maxsold.com/refund and we will take care of this for you.
Be careful when an auction advertises 2 day pick up I lost a 200$ item as I bid assuming 2 day pick up meant either day worked that is not correct when I reached out to MAX SOLD I got zero assistance as they told me my item could only be picked up on day 1, despite the pick up information clearly saying 2 days for pick up and there being many available slots on the second day. I see this as false advertising and a really rotten customer experience I was a regular user and normally had great service but am closing my buyer account for what I can only describe as absolutely horrible customer service - buyer beware dont make the mistake I did with this site who talks a good game on customer service but really doesnt care at all
Hello Peter,
Terribly sorry for any miscommunication on our part regarding the pickup times and pickup process. Due to Covid 19 and safety procedures, including limiting the number of people on site due to local regulations, we had to change the pickup process. When we offer a 2 day pick up the pickup information inside each lot will list what pickup category the items fall under, the auction pages will list what day and time each of those categories can be picked up.
Have you sent in your request to support@maxsold.com we will review that and do our best to make this situation right for you
Bid on a bicycle with odd amounts. First $30 which I was the high bidder with a max bid of $103.20 minutes later I checked the auction and the price had jumped to exactly $103. I waited an hour and the raised my bid to $116. I noticed within 10-20 minutes of bidding each time the bid was raised to the exact amount I bid. So it was smart enough to keep me as the high bidder but they made sure they were getting highest price they could without getting stuck with the item. It was so obvious that the proxy bidding amounts were being seen by someone at Maxsold and being raised within 10 - 15 minutes to the exact random amount. Shady Shady Business!
Hello,
We employ several functions for our bidders -- one is the MaxBid feature, a bidder can set the maximum amount they wish to bid and the system will bid on their behalf. Here is some information on how the MaxBid feature works for bidders https://support.maxsold.com/hc/en-us/articles/203143774-Entering-a-Maximum-Bid-or-MaxBid
We also have bidding increments (an auction industry standard) you can read about this here https://support.maxsold.com/hc/en-us/articles/203144054-How-do-bid-increments-work-
In addition to those features, we also have a soft close feature that turns on when the auction is closing. So long as a bid is placed in the last two minutes of the items closing time it will extend the bidding essentially turning the auctions into a live bidding platform. Once there are no bids for a full 2 minutes the lot will close. Here is the information about that. https://support.maxsold.com/hc/en-us/articles/203144064-Soft-Close-Extended-Bidding
We do hope you will reconsider your assessment of our bidding platform, you can also read more about the process and our terms here:

I've been bidding and buying on MaxSold for many months now and I have scored some amazing items. I love the diversity of clients they serve. I can choose to join auctions that are garage sale like, or participate in high-end estate sales that offer exquisite items.
I appreciate that MaxSold has a system that is followed. So regardless of the seller or the items-the same format is always followed. I feel confident when viewing items, and bidding is always easy.
Thank you so much for the review and those great tips for bidders!
Happy bidding!
I see prices go up on Maxsold. FB is full of clutter going down in price that doesn't get seen unless you search for that specific item or the price gets slashed.
Thank you so much for the review! We are so pleased you are enjoying our auctions!

The team at MaxSold was kind and helpful during this whole process. They answered all of my questions and I will definitely use again!
Thank you so much for the review!
We are so pleased you have enjoyed the auction process.
Nothing has beaten MaxSold for us in terms of setting up our new home. We used to Craigslist heavily, but MaxSold has all but made us abandon it. Somehow we always find someone selling a household item we need, it's always way cheaper than buying new, and it feels good to know that something will be reused instead of wasted. We've shopped over 100 auctions here and will continue to do so as long as they exist!
Wow, thanks so much for the kind words, we are so happy you enjoy shopping on MaxSold!
Thank you!
I've received purchased several items from multiple MaxSold auctions. Every time the items were already prepared for pickup, clearly marked (lot numbers and my name) and pickup went smoothly with no issues. Can't wait to see what treasures I find next!
Wow, thanks so much for the kind words, we are so happy you enjoy shopping on MaxSold!
Thank you!
The whole process was easy but time consuming and takes effort to photograph and organize the product. Staff was great help and professional. What I didn't like was the high commission of 30%. Commission is collected on both ends.
It should not be more than 15% in my opinion.
We are happy to hear you found our process easy. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback!
I've been shopping on the Maxsold auction site for several years now and I have always gotten great deals and great service from the site. The reps onsite at the pickup location are always helpful and friendly. The pictures on the site are usually very informative and give a good indication of the condition of the items being offered. I will shop here again.
Wow, thanks so much for the kind words, we are so happy you enjoy shopping on MaxSold!
And thank you for the tips for other bidders!
Thank you!
I have never been able to afford 'Good' furniture, with Maxsold I can spend as little or as much as I wish. I have been able to replace much of my chipboard furniture with solid wood by using Maxsold.
Maxsold is an easy to use platform and they have safe practices in place during the Covid pandemic. Anyone can use Maxsold no matter what your budget, the potential to get what your heart desires is attainable.
I have been able to get items for a great price to enable me to have creative freedom without breaking the bank as I am a mixed media artist.
I reccomend Maxsold to anyone.
The best way to take advantage of things that we do not use and that can be recialr, is to restore them to take advantage of them again, I think that many people walk in this wave, it is something practical and fun and we help our planet that needs it so much
MaxSold was overall a great experience in selling our items, but missed 5 stars because... some of the photos they took were terrible, some items were left off altogether, and MaxSold employees spent $1 to get what they wanted when we could have resold it ourselves.
Answer: The site states clearly that you must pick up your article at the specific time and place. If you cannot do that or arrange for someone to do it for you... then don't bid.
Answer: Definitely not on their youtube channel as they've removed the ability to comment. This alone was enough for me to steer clear.
Answer: Please see our past auction results at http://maxsold.com/past-auctions/ - every auction we've done is listed for public viewing. You will see the sell through rate for each auction, and you can calculate the percent sold. Our average sell through is 98.7%.
Answer: Winning bids are charged to the credit card on file right AFTER each auction ends, along with 10% buyers premium and the applicable retail sales tax for your region. The first time you bid at any of our auctions, your card will be pre-authorized for $1.00. However, it is only a bank authorization for validation, not a charge, and it is usually removed in about a week by your bank.
Answer: Hi Peter, We found that when minimum bids or reserves are put on items, they typically go unsold. For more information on why we start our items at $1 check out this link: http://maxsold.com/reserve Here are some Seller FAQ's https://support.maxsold.com/hc/en-us/sections/200632154-Seller-FAQs You may also reach out to our sales team directly at our toll-free number 1-877-257-7799 ext 2. Answer: $700 + 30% if they do the photos and pick-up. If you do the work on your side it is $300 or 30% whatever is higher. It is near the bottom of this link. https://get.maxsold.com/sell-with-maxsold/
MaxSold.com online auctions provides local expert help to sell goods through our hyper-local online auction service when downsizing, estate sale or clearing business inventory.
It’s an unfortunate reality that the market doesn’t typically value a seller’s goods in the same way the Seller values them - even using a competitive auction model. At MaxSold, we do our very best to provide both a detailed outline of our process and share our past auction data to prepare sellers for the realities of the market when items must be sold.
Sellers have both financial and emotional attachments to items. Our job is to sell only those items they need to part with (typically items that will soon be a liability due to a move or a sale of real estate) as selling the items avoids ongoing costs (moving, storage, etc.). Our model, which sells everything to the highest bidder, guarantees a finite and transparent experience that passes the logistical burden of removal onto the buyers at a location and time specified by the Seller. This saves hundreds (if not thousands) in labor alone.
Where other solutions try to control prices while having no control over time of sale, MaxSold gives the seller control of time while giving up control of price to market competition. For people who have items that will soon cost them to hold onto, this is the most economical (and green) solution to the problem of getting things removed on a timelines (typically for a much larger value proposition such as a closing real estate transaction or avoiding ongoing rental costs).
