Legacy performed as advertised. Everything was tracked, good Communications while they had my materials, and they delivered on time with a good product.
My experience with Legacy Box has been terrible. They don't even deserve 1 star. I received an email that my vhs videos and reel to reel tapes were received on June 5th, there were very few emails in between then and Sept. 14th when I received the DVDs and CDs. I sent 6 vhs and 4 reel to reels to be converted into DVDs. Upon trying to reach the company for feedback/questions no one ever answered the telephone. When you press 2 to speak with an agent you get a message that says "no support agents are available to take your call, please call back later" and when you attempt to call back there is still no answer. When my package arrived back to me it contained some CDs with poor quality music (which I didn't ask for and care not to keep their junk) and the 5 DVDs I did receive 3 read "bad disc", and the other 2 were of such poor quality that one I could hardly see and the other one color was so bad that it looked like it was and old movie in black and white. I feel as though I was taken for my money. I would not advise anyone to use this company. They could at least sent a letter with an explanation alone with the return of my Vhs and reel to reel. I'm sure they are not answering the telephone because so many people are demanding their money back. Please do not use this company, if they keep on like this, I am sure that they will be out of business soon. They are wrong! They obviously do not have morals, they are messing up people personal memories.
Over 15 minutes now. Why so slow? Please call me back. I need to know how to burn a dvd from my thumb drive. I also want to know the status of my second order.

I contacted Legacybox to ask about conversions for my late father-in-law's old 8mm movies and Kodak slide pictures. They wanted almost $1K for transfer and did not even bother to give me a time frame for completion. Here in San Antonio we have the same services, Alamo Film Transfer, that did the conversion for a fraction of the cost, and the quality was OUTSTANDING! Contact Lee at Alamo Film Transfer, even if you live out of town. Or you may have a similar service in your town. DON'T go with Legacybox!
Great service, great idea. I love Legacy Box from start to finish they keep you up to date on everything they are doing. Very professional and the best at what they do.
This is our second purchase of a Legacybox.
We have been more than satisfied with their service.
Our slides and videos were handled a copied with the best care and resolution possible.
I had used LegacyBox once, and had good results. I chose to use them again, and placed a large (over $500) order. Soon after, I lost my job, and requested cancellation and refund. Though I had just received their box for shipping tapes, I had not shipped anything. A few days later I received a refund equal to half the order purchase. I requested explanation why the refund was half, and was told they deducted the shipping cost of their box (understandable) plus a 20% restocking fee of $220. Again, I asked how they came up with 20% on $399.99 product order, and they stated it was based on the retail cost of my order, $1,099.99, not the actual discounted cost I paid! Note, there is nothing in their terms, that I can find online, that states their restocking policy. It seems to be random and at their discretion. I am now in the process of having to dispute this excessive charge with PayPal, and have filed a complaint with BBB. If I ever do use a transfer service again, it will NOT be LegacyBox!
They have always delivered my pictures/VHS tapes etc. in a timely manner and have done the best they can to make them as clear as possible. And if I had an issue they have been great at helping me.
This was the most frustrating experience ever! I mailed my VHS tapes in back in February to get converted to CD's. Waited and waited, no update from Legacybox, I inquired to received the same message over and over- "Your order is in process, getting ready to go to production". I received this same message every time I inquired. Finally, 4 months of this, I asked for a specific commitment which they would not give me. I kept getting the run around. I completely lost confidence that anyone at this company knew what was going on. As I mentioned, they were also not proactive in providing me updates, I always had to ask.
Bottom line is I finally threatened to call the Better Business Bureau and asked for my tapes back, they did send my tapes back and did give me credit but wanted to charge me for shipping. I pushed back and they finally gave me credit for that as well.
I would not trust this company to do what they say they will do. All hype and never delivered a thing except horrible service.
Legacybox, if you want to run a business, I would suggest being upfront with your customers relative to a timeline, being honest when they ask you questions, and pick up the phone and place an actual call instead of your canned email responses. I am so disappointed.
Hi, Jane. Thank you for your feedback. I understand your concerns over being parted with your precious items for so long, and I am very sorry for the current extended turnaround times. Unfortunately, since the speed at which we are able to digitize every order can vary so widely, it is difficult to give specific dates of completion. However, we always try to narrow it down as close as possible by providing a range of dates for when an order may be completed. I realize this doesn't work out well for everyone's needs, but we are doing the best we can to speed all orders through our facility! I am happy to hear that you did ultimately receive your tapes back safe and sound. Should you need anything else, please reach out. Our customer service team is available 7 days a week to help you with at questions@legacybox.com or by phone at 800-797-8210. Thank you!
After converting a few 8mm camcorder tapes to DVD on my own 25 year old DVD recorder I decided to send the remainder to Legacy Box to save time. Boy what a mistake! The resolution on the converted DVD's was absolutely horrible. The ones I had converted at home were excellent with no visible degredation between the 8mm tapes and DVD's. One very important VHS tape was returned with a wide horizontal line running down the middle of the DVD and resolution so bad faces were hardly recognizable. Some DVD's were totally blank and some were converted to a file format that my IMAC didn't recognize. The VHS's conversion showed raster lines as if they has simply played the tape on a TV and recorder from the TV. Run don't walk away from these people.

Hello, I had decided to borrow a vcr and watch one of the tapes that I had you copy for me. The DVD that I received kept cutting off and on and I just assumed that the tape was old and a lot of tape had been ruined. Well after I watched the original tape I found our that most of the media wasn't copied over to the DVD and it didn't cut out. I am very disappointed in the quality of the DVD and that fact that it wasn't all transferred.
Hi Linda, We are so sorry to hear that your order didn't meet your satisfaction! I am very happy with legacy box. I wish that some of my VHS tapes were better quality but my wife and I thoroughly enjoy watching these memories again after years of not watching them.
They took almost 3 months, and the quality was terrible! Very disappointed. When I record the cd's they made with camera I get great quality, they used really cheap quality stuff
Hi Disap, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the services that we offer but your review has shown us that we can do better! We perform a 1:1 transfer, meaning the quality of the originals will be a direct reflection of the quality of the output. Please reach out to our customer service team with your order number at questions@legacybox.com and we would be happy to look into this for you!
VHS tapes were 30 years old. Didn't hold out hope for the tapes still being good quality but was pleased with the quality of the dvds. Would recommend this to anyone
I can't even begin to describe how much it means to me to have these precious memories so beautifully and easily accessible. Thank you, thank you Legacybox. You're doing amazing work.
Hi Keren! Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. We are very much grateful to help you in preserving those memories that are so precious to you!
Max 8 vido tapes 28 years old, not reviewed
For the past 25 years!
Concerned and nervous!
The people at Legacy and their work are really a five star experience
When I first got my Legacy Box it seems like they kept adding one charge after another, but the real problem came with online storage of my media. I thought that was set up for life and it went to my Google Docs, but in the fall of 2022, I received an annual billing for $43, which was automatically charged to my credit card. A few weeks later, another bill came for the same amount, along with a threat to remove access to my content by Feb 10,2023. Rather than lose the content for which I had paid so much, I paid promptly, figuring Legacybox would make things right in the end. All my inquiries were ignored, and I soon started receiving threatening emails that I would lose my content. I sent more inquiries, careful to include my order numbers. These were ignored and my content disappeared from Google Docs. I would never refer a friend to this service. I downloaded as much as I could before the content disappeared from Google Docs. I canceled the yearly subscription to PayPal and PayPal refunded me my second payment and it working to reclaim the first payment.
Hi Keith,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the services that we offer. Our website does list our digital access policy here: https://help.legacybox.com/en-US/what-is-digital-access-314791. I apologize if that could have been more clear! If you feel that there are any actionable steps that our team can take to make things right for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Support team. You are welcome to contact us at 800-797-8210 or email us at questions@legacybox.com.
I ordered a LegacyBox package to have some betamax tapes transferred. After receiving the kit I found that most of my betamax tapes were molded and had water damage. I then proceeded to cancel the $625 order and they are charging me the shipping and handling of the box ( which I understand) however they are also charging me 20% of the cost for DOING NOTHING for me. This is now going to cost me $120 + shipping and handling.
The following was a response I emailed back to Legacy =
="I checked my inbox, trash, junk and spam mail and far as getting a reply from Lennon I can't confirm I ever got a reply.
You guys know that memories are a fragile thing and my hope was to share the family memories, through your provided service, during the Holiday Season. Well, that's clearly not going to happen. I wish you would have been as prompt at sending the Legacy Box out as you were in taking my money.
Part of my plan was to have my Sister, Niece and Nephew share one of the thumb drives of memories since they each had lost a house and all of their belongings (including family photos) in the Paradise, CA. Fire a couple of years ago. At this point and having already spent the money I will await delivery of the Legacy box and consider whether to pay additional for expedited service or just let it all 'play out'. "
Note that my Legacy Rep Lennon never replied to the email I sent in response to Legacy's email requesting how are we doing in regards to your experience.
You asked me what was my experience with your company = Well, not a fond memory.

Hi Tim, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I do apologize for any confusion regarding your order. I see that Lennon did reply to your email and when she did not receive a response she emailed you again but did not get a response. The response to your email is on the same thread that you then left a negative review for her on. I believe if you scroll down on that email where you left your review you should be able to see all correspondence. I do apologize for any confusion regarding order processing time. For orders with paid rush processing, the deadline to have your order in to us to be guaranteed for christmas delivery would be December 1st. When you placed your order, we were unfortunately past that deadline already. I do see that your box was delivered to you yesterday and I wholeheartedly hope that you enjoy going through old memories with your family during the holidays.
When the box arrived I packed my VHS tapes and received the CD's much quicker than anticipated. Quality was good considering tapes were over 30 years old.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
