Have been using this site for years for last minute travel and upcoming travel. It's easy to use and has some great deals. I also would recommend it because of the reward points.
This American-based parent company provides cheap flights and hotels worldwide. I love to use this site, but also loving their other brands like Hotels.com, trivago and more..
31 Aug 2016 I booked a room at boulevard hotel in Baku (9/17/2016- 9/20/2016) with expedia. The reservation was prepaid. When I arrived at the hotel after 17 days, the hotel manager said that we know that you have already paid to expedia but expedia hasn't paid us yet. After 13 hours waiting in lobby with very unconfortable condition as they were cleaning almost all the time and not such place to rest after your long night in airplaine; the manager Omar Zumot (+994 50 218 3069) wrote on my prepaid reservations paper that (Boulevard hotel refuse to give the gust the room because Expedia didn't pay Boulevard hotel the fee.). It was rainng in Baku and I took a taxi and went around and took three hours for me to get a room while I paid twice as much for a room much lower in quality which I had reserved
My wife and I decided to book our flight to Italy through Expedia much to my trepidation, what a big mistake! Flight got cancelled about a month before we leave on the trip and airline changed it to a flight the next day. This throws all our plans in disarray. I reached out to Expedia customer service to see if they could fix the issue. I tried contacting the airline TAP Portugal myself and they will not deal with me because the flights were booked with Expedia. After contacting customer service THREE times and being told the request was sent to TAP and nothing gets resolved. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I BOOK ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!
I have used Expedia for 22 years, however, will no longer use them again as there is no benefit to using them as a booking agent when you cannot talk to a real person about a flight discrepancy. They have no standing with the airlines when flights are drastically changed (ie 24 hour delays) and can do nothing for you. It is better to book through the airlines directly so that they are liable to answer to you for flight changes and cancellations. Expedia cannot help and it is extremely frustrating not having a real person to talk to and initially having to deal with a 'virtual agent'. I logged a issue a week ago and was told that I would hear back from someone within 24 hours and heard nothing. I had to log the call again, even though the case number was given as a reference and had to explain the situation all over again. Very frustrating. My frustration is due to booking an international return ticket which has since been changed by Emirates with a 22 hour delay in Dubai without any compensation to me for the inconvenience of loosing a day of my holiday, needing to pay for somewhere to sleep while I wait for my next flight he following day as well as airport meals ect and a ripple affect of it affecting my onward domestic flights. Not good enough and not good service at all. There is no benefit to booking through Expedia if they can do nothing to help but take my payment and say we apologize for the inconvenience.
Having booked a holiday package (flights and hotel) in November 2019 for travel in March 2020, due to the lockdown I was unable to travel. Despite government guidance against all international travel, Expedia are refusing to provide a refund on the basis that the flights and hotels were still open (holiday was to Abu Dhabi). Despite government lockdown and advise against all International travel, no refund or voucher. I have only just realised that Expedia are not registered with ABTA (assist with dispute resolution) although are ATOL protected (financial assistance should the agent go just). Will now try to claim via the credit card company else will have to try the small Claims court. Will not be using Expedia again for any holiday bookings now that they are keeping almost £1k and no refund!
Jonathan went out of his way today to help me in this pandemic. He spent a lot of time with me and was very patient. All my questions and concerns were satisfied.
I gave the app and always go to this site first when I'm thinking of travel. It's so easy and a good way to see the average prices for flights, hotels etc.
Absolutely happy with the number of bookings I've done with expedia.
Clear booking process and with good support. Never had any issues! I am suprised to even read negative comments on expedia.
I am very disappointed in Expedia. I have booked flights, hotels and activities for me, my husband, my kids. I had nothing but good experiences until now. I booked flights for me and my husband last February for me and my husband. He could not go because of work so I had to cancel his flight. I was told I would get credits for his cancelations which I did. $201 for his canceled Delta flight and $177 for his American Airlines flight. I called yesterday to rebook his flight for July and I was told I would have to pay $200 for each one of this flights. Seriously you think I'm gonna pay $200 for a $177 dollar credit, this is ridiculous. I will never book anything thru Expedia again.
At good times raking money from customers, now just showing no care or respect towards customers. Impossible to get answer to a phone call. Completely disorganized.
Worst company for booking... now I have a ticket with LEVEL 1 Airline to come home from London, when I booked British Airways... Your supervisor from Oklahoma has been yelling at me for 30 minutes and your OFFLINE ticketing is not responding to my request to change the ticket to an airline that is not going out of business! SCAM, FALSE ADVERTISING! I AM OUT $3,700+
I booked a flight with Expedia recently, and at first everything seemed fine. I was charged in full and send a booking confirmation with no errors. Three days later I was charged again, a completely unauthorised use of my credit card details. I was refunded the same day, however I was refunded $100 less than I was charged. I have tired to get in contact with customer support many times but have heard nothing despite their promise to reply within 24 hours. Non-existent customer service for those that can't make international calls to their hotline. It has been over a week now and I am quickly running out of hope that I will ever receive a reply to my many emails. I am now extremely concerned that this company has my credit card details and seems fine make charges to my card without my permission. I didn't expect this off such a large and well-established company and now wish I had read reviews before booking. I have read of many similar situations of people getting double charged and NEVER receiving their money back. This company seems to literally steal money from their customers so please DO NOT USE THEM. I have booked through other online providers many times and have never had a problem, but Expedia is an absolute joke even if their prices seem cheap at first.
I usually don't take time to write reviews but the customer service is so horrible, I had to make a note to try and save people the incredible frustration I've experienced.
I needed to change a flight that I had booked when I arrived at the airport. I talked to 7 different support reps from 10am to 4pm. Hours and hours on the phone. Finally at 230pm, I finally got someone get it fixed and get me on a flight at 5PM. I go back to the airline desk and they double check and nothing, I'm not booked. Not only that, the last flight of the day is now sold out and the open flight is Sunday.
To make matters worse, I now call to get a flight credit and Expedia tells me that no refund will be issued because the flight left at 1045am. Just unbelievable!
This is only one experience. I've similar issues in trying to extend/modify hotel stays.
Expedia has turned into a scam company that couldn't care less about its customers. They sold me useless collision insurance on a rental car that I booked online with them. The rental company would not honor it, I had to buy second coverage at the rental pick up desk, and Expedia does not care. I paid twice for the same thing! 30 minutes on hold with Expedia customer service to be told there's «nothing we can do ». Please go elsewhere, this company has become a complete scam devoid of any proper customer service-READ ALL OF THE RECENT REVIEWS!
VRBO sold out to Expedia Nov 2015 for $3.9 Billion. VRBO, Homeaway, VacationHomeRentals now adds on and charges Travelers a SERVICE FEE of 6% of the total rent! They also force homeowners who advertise their rentals to use the BOOK IT NOW SYSTEM which forces Travelers to pay the huge SERVICE FEE.
They advertise the fee as good for Travelers. A Guarantee. But they don't even verify if the home is actually owned by the person placing the ad! I guess they figure the odds of someone getting defrauded are slim and those 6% fees are huge income.
Better for Travelers, CALL the OWNER direct. Tell them you want to book through them directly. STOP EXPEDIA GREED
Been traveling to different countries and Expedia help me a lot finding good rates on airfare, good hotels to stay at. Expedia is one that you can trust having travel plans.
Horrible service, the lady had such a bad attitude and told us that we cant cancel our reservation if we do we are going to get 100% penalty. We were never notified of this when we called in to book
Expedia seems to have dropped over the years. Either that or the competition is just getting better. Most of my experiences have been good. No fine print issues or false claims.
Terrible experience! Booked a car for the day to travel to west Texas, using Expedia (another mistake) and was assigned an electric vehicle with no AC! This is August in Texas with 100 degree plus heat. I had not requested an electric vehicle because we were traveling to rural west Texas where there were few if any charging stations along our route or at our destination (I checked). Because I had not requested an electric vehicle, especially with no AC, I immediately contacted Expedia (who did the booking) and Thrifty to change the reservation to something I had actually requested. Both companies were impossible to contact via phone (needed the car in 24 hours) and were not good partners. Neither service was willing to help or negotiate a change, in fact Expedia suggested I cancel, which I did and ended up paying half the car rental with out ever getting a car! Austin car rentals are difficult to begin with and keep a low inventory so you are lucky to get a car when you need it. Truly disappointed in the bad service, wrong car selection and total disregard for what I had requested. Will not ever use Expedia again. They are not honest or customer centric in their problem solving.
Answer: You were lucky to get through to anyone at all at Expedia. I've spent hours and hours and hours over three days trying to get through to anyone on their customer service phone line, their chat line and their e-mail, all to no avail. They really owe their customers much better customer service.
Answer: Demand to speak to a Supervisor though you better have time because it will take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. Once the Supervisor does nothing or little to nothing to resolve your concern, ask to speak to a manager. Get ready to really wait. DO NOT ACCEPT THE "WE'LL HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU WITHIN 24 to 48 HOURS" When you figure out you don't matter, sit down and right a review!
Expedia has a rating of 2.8 stars from 1,604 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Expedia most frequently mention customer service, credit card and next day. Expedia ranks 15th among Travel Search Engine sites.
