You can count on them for being more expensive than other similar sites. They used to be the ones used for Citibank travel points but they cost too much so I stopped using my citi card.

Based on my personal experience, I think expedia deserves a 2.5 but I feel like rounding down. For 1/2 successful bookings. The first time booking a trip to New Orleans, things went smoothly. I did not use my own credit card but I believe they charge the hotel amount as soon as you place an order if you're booking an entire package (flight + hotel). I hate that there are TONS of random ads for random tourist events/attractions that you have to scroll through and try not to accidentally click PLUS the other ads for add-ons for your flight that you don't really want but it's not overtly confusing, more so annoying.
The second time I had to let someone else book the trip, their site flaked out and gave server errors. It was annoying because the trip was booked by a school, where the person doing it didn't have limitless time trying to refresh the page, create an account to submit and/or both. We ended up giving up and just going with Southwest for the flight and doing the hotel separately. The worst part was entering 2 different people's information and having the site flake out. Really irritating and time consuming.

Easy to book and manage our itinerary. Even though I was treated to 7 star accommodation, booking it through Expedia made it feel less expensive but just as classy

Love It
February 20, 2016

Expedia has always been our choice as a family to book hotels. With that said I do shop around and make sure others don't offer better rates, and if they do Expedia will match it.

(This was the only Hotel close to the Venue with 1 room left at this price)
I visually see the hotel deal I want at $141 per night. It reads "1 left", so I click Reserve. A new screen comes up with my bill with Red Letters saying "4 other people are looking at this room right now". Being the last room I didn't want to lose it because there is a time limit to purchase. I saw a $100 fee for "Grounds Fee" so I called the hotel and they said I would be reimbursed if I didn't wreck the place. I agreed on the high total (not having broken it down). I also had used my Expedia points and purchased insurance. Now the Timer is ticking down so I quickly enter my Visa number and click submit.
I get the room and the receipt but when I break everything down I see I didn't get the room for $141, I paid the $161! I wrote Expedia and they just wrote that Hotels can change prices at anytime. But Expedia read $141! They don't back their pricing! What is the point of going through Expedia if when you click the button you can get any ol' price and not the one they stated?
For $40, Expedia has lost my business permanently.

Pity I cant give a 0 star rating.
My 3 small children, wife and I were stuck in Amsterdam after booking flights from there to Krakow. The Expedia booking specifically stated the flights were Economy/Coach which has a baggage allowance, while Economy Lite does not have a baggage allowance. Once checked in we found that we were booked Economy Lite with no baggage. We attempted to contact Expedia to attach a baggage fee which would have been cheaper but got mucked about so much we had to buy over the counter baggage which was exorbitantly expensive by five bags. We were lucky the carrier's personnel were helpful (one child is disabled & required some help - thanks again Lufthansa staff)
To top this off the complaints process has taken five months of calls & emails & they've now stated my claim is bogus - despite sending in proof of the discrepancy.
If you're travelling with children do not use Expedia. Use it as a search engine then book through a carrier directly, it'll be cheaper & they have a complaints process.

I bought a flight ticket and hotel reservation on Expedia.ca, where the displayed price for my flight was $740 with Air Transat. However, I was charged an additional $542 without any justification. Furthermore, the hotel I booked was supposed to offer the best price, equivalent to a free night's stay. Once paid, I realized this was false. I found out that I would have paid less if I had booked directly with the airline and the hotel.

I only realized the actual price of the flight ticket after it was charged to my credit card because it was separated from the hotel cost. This made me understand that I had paid much more than what was initially shown. The invoice provided by Expedia was poorly detailed, making it impossible to know exactly how much the flight ticket and the hotel cost separately. Yes, there is an invoice, but it is so poorly explained and detailed that it's just meant to mislead you. I wasn't able to know the exact cost of the flight ticket and the hotel separately until after I paid, and by then it was too late.

After contacting Expedia's customer service, they told me that they are not in control of the prices and cannot refund me. They offered a $25 coupon, which is completely ridiculous and I refused. Expedia's customer service was utterly useless and refused to acknowledge the error or refund me.

I strongly advise against using this site for any reservations. Very disappointed!

I have dealt with a few issues over the -almost- twenty years that I have used Expedia. The last six months have been awful. Recently, their App glitched & used two different credit cards(one in my spouses's name & without a security code) for a hotel booking. When I finally got thru to customer service, the real person on the other end, kept saying that it was the hotel's cancellation policy that would not allow him to stop the double booking. He could, however, cancel & the fee would be the entire cost of the room. Is it really that difficult to cancel an unauthorized credit card usage(we have two separate Expedia accounts with the common denominator being a cell number)? Yes. At Expedia, it is. I have an insane amount of screen shots of my absurd interactions with him. Apparently, there were no supervisors on duty to help.
With another, separate & soon to be upcoming trip, the hotel has been asking for the balance of my hotel stay. My credit card was charged(by Expedia) for the entire amount & thus far, no one at Expedia can explain why the hotel has not gotten their money. It's been 5 weeks. Lo & behold, again, not one supervisor in the entire company to help.
I wish everyone happy travels & I hope that Expedia is good to you. After many years, I am saying Goodbye.

I've found Expedia a good place to shop for travel. Sometimes I book with them and others I start by shopping there and then booking with the airline, hotel or car rental vendor directly.

I have very bad experience with Expedia. Expedia don't want give money back. Flight was canceled becouse of covid 19. The flight company SAS gave me the certificate that it gave to Expidia whole money back for my ticket. They are lying that nobody form SAS take a phone from them or that SAS is not answering on Emails. This situation lasts since May. I am calling to Expedia every week. I will never recomend Expidia to anybody.

I started booking a package flight and hotel on Expedia.com. The quoted price was about $1,200. All the way through the reservation flight and hotel selections this price was showing. On the last step, right before purchase, the price went up to $3,000. I called on the phone and representative told me that she is experiencing the same issue, that probably the price will fall down when we make the reservation and that the reservation has a 24-hour cancellation-free policy. She recommended me buying it despite the high price. Later on it tuned out the reservation does NOT have a 24-hour cancellation-free policy. The flight could be cancelled, but the hotel was non-refundable, which basically made me stuck into the whole reservation.
I contacted Expedia numerous times, most of the responses were that they work in a live environment. On the other hand the same reservation on Priceline.com was around $1,200, so I would guess that would be the "live" and reasonable price.
Expedia also refused to match the price because they said they do not have such a policy any more, since they guarantee the lowest price. Despite that their price of $3,000 is outrageously higher than the Priceline.com's $1,200.
I attached not only screen shots of the website of Expedia with a SUDDEN almost THREE times increase of price, but also screenshots of Priceline.com for the same reservation. Despite that all Expedia responses seem to be copying the same standard reply about the "live environment".
Very disappointing experience with Expedia! Very misleading phone representative and an extremely inadequate customer service!

I haven't traveled since the pandemic and wanted to start planning. I tried 30 minutes to REACH A LIVE VOICE because of 2 important questions that are unique and i wanted credits for airlines and from Expedia included in the deal. Frustrating voice prompts and lying for 30 minutes! The website even says something about discounts apply up to 2018?! It is May 21,2021 now... how do i trust them! Disgraceful!
(and i see the positive ratings and have had PAST positive experiences - which was my point) But what if you arrive at the airport and they don't have your reservation? What if u arrive at hotel (and the same?). I do not doubt the attractive packages but what if something goes wrong AND IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT THIS COMPANY?
