I cancelled my subscription three months ago, but I continue to get billed each month. I phone customer support every month and they claim to have cancelled my subscription, but they haven't done so, so I'm constantly being charged. Even this time, I asked them to send me any documentation that would prove they had cancelled my membership, but they don't have this kind of facility. Even though he put my call on hold and isn't forwarding it to their manager, this is extremely nasty. Now you can see what a dismal service they are offering.
Since my recent review posted on here regarding audible, and how I believed they were a scam, the issue has been resolved. My account can now be cancelled. Meanwhile I received a reply to my review, from audible. They were very polite and professional in reaction to being called 'scammers' and wanted to resolve the matter for me. I would like to give back some of the credit I have taken away from audible, I no longer believe they are a scam, just not the right company for me on my smartphone. Although I found using them stressful, I think many people will probably enjoy their service. I would not have retracted my opinion, had audible not been polite and helpful in response to my complaint.
I don't know why these people have not been arrested yet. I changed my card because they made a deduction which was never from me. I can't believe they got the new card details after changing it. I asked the credit card company to flag them.
Calling me naive would be a fair statement. However, the fact remains that I paid for a service I didn't know I was receiving; and I will be warning all of my friends and family to avoid Audible at all costs. When I called to cancel, the customer service rep had the nerve to say that her records showed that I had been a satisfied customer for over a year. I replied by saying, "Is that so? Do your records also show that I have never requested a single product? That's right. None. Because I didn't know I was a member! Once you cancel said membership, only then can you refer to me as satisfied." I fully admit that I have no one to blame but myself. That does not negate the fact that the tactics employed by Audible are deplorable. Beware.
Audible will end up sucking you dry. My membership started at 14.99 and is now over 21 I can never cancel because I always have about 5 credits and they rarely ad new titles I like. I listen to many books at the library. I have almost 100 titles and they will not let me quit without losing my credits. I have been stuck for years like this if you want an audiobook go to the library for free
I signed up for the trial and got my free book and then got charged for 6 months until I finally noticed that my money was vanishing into thin air. They used my amazon credit card for payments without my permission. I cancelled the service and they removed all of the credits my account had. I thought okay then if they are taking away all my credits then surely I will be able to get my money back. I went to the purchase history and the last 6 months of membership charges said "not eligible for return," so my 90 dollars just disappeared then? I ended up contacting support and they refunded my money but i'm still mad about the whole situation. Stay away from audible and do not support this shady business practice.
I signed up for free trial but when it came time to cancel it was a ridiculous pain figuring out how to. I had to google it several times to find the right place. I was left extremely frustrated by the experience. What an obnoxious waste of time!
I got charged 15 dollars without even subscribing, I never agreed to a 30 day trial or anything, I even went to my account settings to see if I accidentally had agreed to a subscription but there was no "cancel" button or anything. I believe they charged me for a credit, and not the 7.99 dollars that the normal monthly amount usually is. I have deleted my card from them and all I can do is hope that they don't charge next month? Bc there is absolutely no way for me to cancel..
I have been a member of Audible for about 3 years and I have never had a bad experience with them.
The prices are good (some audiobooks are cheaper than ebooks or printed books) and they have numerous sales throughout the year for members.
The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is a few notable books are not on Audible that i really wanted to listen too.
Like most others here I found it a complete scam. I managed to stop it billing me after a few months on my "free" account. I signed up to see what they had but did not buy. Once I realised the scam I cancelled but now the titles I "purchased" I can only listen to on registered computers. Wanted to listen in car on USB for a long journey and this is not possible.
Audible lies about having a free 365 day return policy. I returned two books and they locked up my entire library preventing me from returning any more books. The books I returned were two of the $2.95 books. I thought I'd take a chance to see how they were since they have free returns. They sucked so I returned and then found out I was blackballed from returning anymore, ever I guess because they locked up all of my books in my library. Well to hell with Audible. I can go elsewhere.
I did not sign up for the monthly but just bought a book. Then had a ridiculously difficult time downloading the book onto my iPad through their app. After reading reviews I will never, ever buy from audible again. Wish they could owe me stars on their rating cuz it doesn't even deserve a 0
I would still like to know how Audible got my cc information when I never signed up for anything from them. Not even a free trial. The only thing I had done was purchased from Amazon and it wasn't even books! They refunded a closed account but there were also overdraft fees associated with their charges. I am looking into filing a lawsuit. Looks like I won't have a hard time finding others this has happened to.
Same story as some. Found charges I didn't recognize on my bank statement. I use Amazon regularly, Prime, etc - possibly my 6 year old got click happy and signed up. Who knows. Anyway, they were quick to research, cancel, and refund me. Good on that end, at least. Might be nice if I'd received some sort of email requiring a reply confirmation. It is a little bit questionable, and I feel like Amazon should certainly take a hard look at the partnership and practices. It shouldn't be that easy to accidentally sign up for something.
Plz be aware, Audible is notorious in using your credit card/ payment details registered with amazon or directly to make unauthorised transactions. In contacting customer care they will promptly revert the payment if you are strong in voicing concern, and usually give you an excuse that the customers account is hacked. Do not fall for this decoy for illegal financial transaction.
The heavyhandedness of Audible's CRM strips all pleasure from listening experience. Their apps are sporadically functional and frustrating beyond reasonableness. Skip the free book and look for a less crappy alternative.
The worst company. I paid for 10 months of this product with no notification or email from them. They automatically gain access to your debit accounts from Amazon. Super unhelpful when calling to cancel my service. The lady was full of polite BS when I asked how I signed up and did I even download any books, I hadn't downloaded anything, yet they still charged me $160. My fault should have checked my bank account more thoroughly. DO NOT sign up for the free trial they bank on you forgetting to close it.
I subscribed on the 6th of January this year. I downloaded a first audio book, did not really like the experience (I fall asleep when listening to someone read, I highly prefer active reading), and canceled my subscription. Six months later, I find out that they have kept charging me every month, without even notifying me. If you consider giving a try to Audible: don't. You will waste your time and money on this website.
I love the selection & ability to download the data to my account. I listen in my commute or on road trips & typically consume ~1 book/month. This learning has literally helped me become a better version of myself. If you are passionate about helping our world improve, the ideas in this app can help you do it.
BONUS: I received an e-mail during the COVID-19 isolation phase about a website full of free audio books for kids. As a father of two, I'm thrilled to share one of my passions with them.
All books are supposed to be charged at one credit per book. However, when I checked out earlier today, I had three credits, bought two books, and it showed that I had 0 credits.
I called customer service to complain, and they told me that obviously there had been a glitch in the system because I should have only had two credits. I have kept track of my credits carefully, so I knew this was not the case. The woman told me to look at my order history and membership history to see that she was correct.
I looked at them, found I had paid for 8 credits and only used 7 on books. She still insisted there was an error and that the right number of credits had been recorded. So I essentially spent $15 and waited a month for no reason.
