Pay the monthly fee for years, accumulate extra credits and if your credit card number has expired, say goodbye to all your "credits". Not enough books on the site worth the fee is why I didn't use credits so forget the membership crap and just buy what you want to listen to somewhere else.
Extremely displeased with this whole change from my Kindle app which was so easy, with one click I could purchase a book or audio version. Now this has me paying yet another app to get only one book for free a month?! What a scam. So disappointed. I will not be supporting this company anymore. Customer lost!
Their system is deliberately obtuse…requiring a ridiculous amount of time just to find your purchase history. Their samples are insanely short…it's impossible to judge how you will like a book, unlike amazon which gives you a decent "sample". THEN…try to return it…god help you if you've just returned another book because the narration was impossible to understand or you decided it was just boring. My requests for returns has been rejected several times, even though I had just purchased the book. Infuriating! I am taking this up with AMAZON. Audible is not a good provider—BEWARE!
Audible have failed to advise customers of their returns policy. I return less than 1 in 10 books and only those I don't complete but I have now been threatened that they will not allow me to return anymore. This is contra to their advertisement of returning any books you don't like. Customer service has failed to respond to 5 separate emails asking for clarity and just sends a generic response. So suggest that you only purchase books that you 100% know that you'll like and won't want to return.
This is absolutely despicable company!. I took the free 30 day trial and didn't like it so I cancelled it after 14 days. But found that they took money out one month after me cancelling it and the membership was running since 2005! I don't think so, needless to say my bank now blocked them and I have all the cancelling emails and recording talking to the person on the phone clarifying that its been cancelled and charges refunded. I think this is another one to go to the courts to be scraped as the illegally take money out of banks. Do not do it, it is too expensive and rubbish it kept freezing when playing, get a talking book from library for less money.
I purchased an audio as a gift for my friend and a few days later when I found out it never received it I contacted audible. Despite having a copy of the transaction, they refused to provide a refund because they could not locate the transaction on their system. They claimed it must've been purchased through a reseller. If this is true I had idea it was the case. I've spent hours speaking to people in customer service and I still have not received a refund.
My son bought be a 3 month membership for Audible and I'm on my second month. I can't believe how bad the experience is. The app won't automatically remember where I left off when I last listened and if I'm not near a wifi when I start listening to my downloaded book then it won't let me listen. To download the second book I've had to chat with three customer service reps. Now reading these reviews I'm going to be charged on my Amazon account when I cancel my membership.
The treatment I originally received over the phone regarding my use and charges did not go well. However, since that time I was contacted by email and the situation was addressed differently. Thank you for being response to your customers.
I received an email today from Audible stating they were having trouble processing my credit card. I never signed up for their service, but they seem to think I have an account. Don't give your personal info to these scammers!
Audible looks like a very fun site. But, why enter a credit card number for a FREE book trial?! I'm not just hating pm audible but, it would be great if SOME company didn't! Please please pleas e change this!
Audible's customer service is awful. First of all, It take a long time for them to respond. And when they do, it takes about 15 emails for them to understand the issue. At the end you're at square one because they can't help you. They really do not take their customers seriously.
They don't even have a complaint department.
Overall very disappointing!
Ok so I have never signed up for audible, nor did I know what it was until I saw a charge on my account. Somehow they had my email and both my mom's and my credit card numbers. They charged me 14.95 for a monthly subscription that I never agreed to or was aware of in the first place! Audible needs to be investigated or sued- I don't know. But judging by previous reviews, it's obvious that they need to be stopped!
Sent me a really rude email accusing me (disguised as a ''hope you are fine'' type email) of abusing the returns system. How is it my fault if the narrator is awful, but that this isn't obvious from the 5 min sample you are allowed to hear pre-purchase? Or that the 5 minute sample is actually someone else reading the Preface and not the book itself? Or that it is only after listening for 10 -15 mins that one realises that the book is actually dreadful? Unbelievably rude. I thought their policy was return any book any time?
Please avoid Audible all costs - tried to download both the player and purchased books 5 times without success - technical help were anything but, but after cocking up the instructions on what to do wanted to access my personal PC to have a look!
Overpriced, impossible to play, impossible to import to any other device or player, i've wasted over 2 hours of my life trying to sort this out with online tech support.
AVOID!
Audible.com uses deceptive membership sales tactics. See pictures for an example. Audible tries to coerce listeners into subscribing by falsely leading them to believe they can continue listening to the next book in the series. However, if you don't scroll down and read the fine print you won't realize the book you are trying to listen to does not release for another two months. At no point does Audible let the subscriber know that what they offer is only a preorder and that the subscriber will have to pay for 3 months of audible to be able to listen to the book they are interested in.
I signed up to this sight after an advert for it saying try it for a free book. Signed up with my email and nothing else. 1 year later and I've been charged a bloody fortune for something I didn't use. They got my credit card details through Amazon, and charged me through there. $#*!ing ridiculous that you can be charged for something when you don't give that site any of your details. Never using it again
Audible has a monthly recurring "membership" where you get one "credit" for a book each month as part of your $14.95 monthly payment.
The problem is that if you try to cancel, and haven't used the credits you paid for, they take all your unused credits. That seems very close to "stealing" to me. I paid for the credits. I'm not closing my account, just trying to stop the membership part. And if I try to stop the recurring charges, Amazon/Audible steals the credits that I paid for each month.
And to top it off... the reason I have a membership at all, was that I was automatically enrolled when I tried Amazon Prime. I cancelled Prime months ago, but of course cancelling Prime did not cancel my Audible membership. That is also predatory, aggressive business.
Super disappointed. Audible has clearly set this up to make it harder to cancel a service I don't want, that I didn't sign up for in the first place. Gross. Be cautious.
Audible is a great company! I love it great service! If people would be responsible adults and read it says clearly after the 30 day free trial you will be charged! People calling it a scam this just cracks me up like really?
I have been listening to books from Audible for many years, probably about 10. I go back to the "pocket pc" days. I really enjoy the service. However, the Audible software is some of the worst I have ever encountered. I have tried Windows, Android, iPod etc and all were buggy. Playback speed spontaneously changes, downloads won't complete, software updates fail routinely etc. etc. Unfortunately, I haven't found another service that offers all the books that Audible does so I'll have to stay for now. Potential competitors should realize that there is a market for a well run similar service.
I've been using Audible for over three years, and I love it! I spend many many hours a week behind the wheel. The audiobooks give me hours of entertainment. I have downloaded hundreds of books with Audible. I've yet to be disappointed. They have a great selection.
I was charged twice for a book one time. Once I noticed it, I e-mailed customer service. I received the credit within hours.
No complaints on my end. :))
