I used XE Trade for 2 transactions (wire transfer to Africa to pay hotels/tours for vacation). I had read online they were reputable and get a good exchange rate. They do get a good exchange rate, but it is much easier (time and efficiency) to just do the transfer through your bank.

My first transfer was to South Africa. I did direct EFT from my bank account and provided the receiver's account number and swift code. XE Trade then told me that they need an IBAN which is only true for European banks. Swift codes and bank accounts are all that are needed for transfer to Africa. It took me 2 days and 4 phone calls before someone was able to complete the transaction for me.

For my second transaction, I sent Mozambican meticals to a hotel in Mozambique. Their bank is located in South Africa. I did the first 50% deposit via my bank without any problems 3 months ago. When I did it through XE Trade, they informed me 4 days after money was wired to them from my bank that they cannot complete it because the currency is meticals and it's a South African bank. Again, untrue, You can wire any type of currency to any country. They are now in the process of returning the money to my account which will take 3-5 business days... and guess what? I have to go to the bank again to do the wire myself.

They may get a better exchange rate but they won't get the exchange done and you'll end up at the bank anyway after hours of transaction. Don't waste your time. Just go to the bank and skip this crappy service.

I had a very poor experience with xe.com sending money to philippines. My account has been inactive for a couple of years. When i came back yesterday i got a pop up message that said 'oops, something went wrong. Please try again.' and then the same pop up after several tries. I logged off, came back later, and the new message was 'sorry, your account has been closed.' i wrote to customer service for an explanation, and this was the reply:

"Janica (Xe)

Dear ####,

Thank you for using Xe.
Unfortunately, we're unable to assist you further and your account, XEMT*******915 will remain closed.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause... "

Now wasn't that was helpful?... Not!.

More to the story, my wife signed up with them for the first time tonight and had an identical experience.

Their advertised high exchange rates and low fees are a fraud. I suspect they are just fishing for personal information.

Stay far away from these guys and stick with a reputable company

They have a pattern of cancelling your transaction &closing account without explanation AFTER they have your funds in their account.
Like many others here we opened an XE.com account received a contract (at a rate 20.13). We complied w/all requirements and wired a large sum to XE. Over the 2 days, the dollar declined to 19.72. Rather than take the loss, XE simply cancels the transaction (AFTER RECEIVING THE FUNDS!) and closes the account. No explanation. THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO PROTECT CONSUMERS- ONCE THE MONEY IS
SENT. This allows them to loot money of consumers and hold it for their own float and play with consumers' money. A PONZI SCHEME- BEWARE OF XE. THECLASS ACTION SUIT IS FORMING 6/29/2022, please allow 30 -45days and search for "class-action XE" will direct to the website of the class attorneys. Also filed complaint with NM state attorney against elderly citizens, 84 years old legally blind, and with CFPB, the Fed.govt: Consumer Federal Protection Board

So i set up an account and made a transfer. AFETR i made it, the company demanded all kinds of invasive and irrelevant information from me like my career history. Obviously i refused and they blocked the transaction and stole my money.

Absolute scam
August 22, 2019

I see I'm not the only one who has had trouble with this company.
Similarly to other reviewers, I tried to make a transfer with these guys from my account in the US to my account in Spain.
I tried making the transfer online but I couldn't comlete it with the information they had given me.
Soon after I received the same message other people received: they told me that they were going to cancel my transaction and charge me close out costs.
I called customer support. After a 20 minute wait for them to pick up the call, they couldn't help me, they said that those details were valid and had been working for all customers. After several harassing emails, they proceeded to cancel my transaction and charge me 90 euros.
I would think that maybe it was my problem because I didn't know how to make the transfer online, but seeing the other reviews I see they always manage to come up with a way to cancel transfers and charge close out costs.
Definitely never use it and stick to transferwise or xoom

I wish I would have read all of the reviews before trusting XE with a wire transfer! I submitted all of my business AND personal ID/info AND banking info as requested on the website, and the transfer showed as 'completed'. They took the $6K out of my bank account but then soon after, I received an email saying the transaction had been cancelled and they closed my account but wouldn't say why. Now, 10 days later, my actual XE account transactions still show the transfer to the receiver has been completed, but the sender did NOT receive any funds. I've been calling customer service every day to get my money back but enough is enough. I AM GOING TO THE RCMP TO MAKE A STATEMENT TODAY about their fraudulent activities. I would encourage you to do the same if you're in the same boat. If you haven't signed up for an XE account yet, DON'T DO IT! Not only did they hold my money, but they have all of my private ID and banking information - I'm worried about identity theft now too!

I have been using xe.com to transfer money back to the UK from the US every month for the past 3 years as i live there but do most of my business across the pond, i logged in on the start of this month to find that they had "upgraded" the site.

Logged in 2 weeks ago when i found i had to reupload all my personal documents again (bank statement, passport etc), i was suspicious so did some googling, they have seemed to have been bought over by another company, Hifx which also does money transfers.

I waited to get my account re-verified, about 4 days later i logged back into my account to see that they were requesting a voided check which i uploaded, for 2 weeks now i have been unable to start a transfer and have both emailed their customer services several times to which i got no reseponse and rang them only to be put on hold for 45 minutes so gave up. It seems that their standards have dropped with this new company taking over.

I have since been using transferwise.com which has transferred my money within 72 hours without any of the hassle xe has caused, its a shame as this company used to be a breeze to send money through.

Dear readers,

This company is among the worst that have ever existed. I beg anyone who could fall into my post to flee from it. I used this company for multiple transfers and gave them the benefit of the doubt to see if they could improve, but to no avail. They ultimately ruined my mental health. They subject you to psychological torture despite the fact that you have barely earned any money. They have inexplicable delays and poor customer service that sarcastically repeats "I'm sorry" but does nothing. For the respect of human dignity that we all deserve, this business must cease to exist. Never ever put your trust in them. They are evil, greedy, and disdainful. Let me illustrate one of my experiences. I performed a simulation to transfer over $4000. They called me immediately and asked if there was a problem when they heard that I wanted to make such a transfer. This instilled confidence in me, and I proceeded with the transfer. I was in a dire situation. They delayed my transfer for five days under the pretext of verification, despite the fact that my records and the origin and destination of the funds are spotless. Due to the delay, I was compelled to cancel a transaction that was expected to be completed within one to four business days. I have been waiting for the refund to reach my account for over a week. There is no money back until today. I am left with frustration, psychological anguish, and, most importantly, the feeling of having been raped by evil and greedy people. Please, my dear people, I do not wish for you to endure the same difficulty: flee this company. They are present to harm, not aid, our health.

We had to contact XE many times by phone and by email. We were attempting to transfer through them from our Credit Union in the US. They held our money for 1 month. They insisted they did not have it, and that we must have made a mistake. They wanted out bank to do a trace, which they did, and after which XE STILL INSISTED it was our mistake, and that they did not have the funds.
Finally, a month later, and after much denial and refusal on their part, the money came through to our account in NZ. They have not offered any apology for the delay, nor any interest on the time they held out money while denying they were doing so.
For a time, I considered the possibility that the Credit Union was somehow at fault, since it's not a "regular bank". Until I transferred money through another company (TORFX) - it took them TWO DAYS to get it to us, including the Credit Union's wire time.
There is no doubt in my mind that XE is a terrible transfer service. I do not recommend every relying on them.

xe.com agreed to convert USD6024. 75 to CAD7500 for me. They took the USD6024. 75 out of my USD bank account, and never deposited the CAD7500 to my CAD bank account. Instead they sent me an email saying that they decided to cancel the transaction and close my account. When I asked them to send me back the USD6024. 75 they took, they told me to contact my bank to get my money back. My bank says I need to tell xe.com to send me my money back. Xe.com is refusing to send me my money back. When I called on the phone and asked why they don't just send me my money back, they just hung up on me. In emails, they continue to tell me that my bank would do it for me, but my bank says they need to send me my money back.

xe.com are evil crooks! They stole USD6024. 75 from me and REFUSE to send it back to me! NEVER USE xe.com!

UPDATE: It has been 3 weeks since they stole my money. I went to the police station to file a police report. I hope the police can help get my money back! GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY YOU EVIL CROOKS!

DO NOT USE THEM. I was a former HIFX customer and I thought that using XE would be fine after they took over. I was wrong. They couldn't make a simple transfer to China using IBAN/SWIFT. Wasted pretty much a week and lost money to convert it back to USD. Viash Sreemuntoo was the corporate trader I dealt with and he was not helpful whatsoever.

We've used XE Trade for several years to transfer funds from Canada to France and were quite satisfied until yesterday, when the quote given us was about 300 euros less than we had expected it to be. Unfortunately, trusting XE, we transferred $15,000 CAD to our French account without looking at other sites and only today realized that we had lost money. Unless XE reimburses us for the lost funds, we will never again use them to transfer money.
2 days later: By phoning the company on Sunday, we were able to cancel the transaction and told to call back during office hours. It's now Monday, I've just spoken to two company reps and have been given a much better quote and decided to accept it. Our advice would be to check comparison sites as well as to speak directly with someone at the fx company. When I mentioned that the rate shown on our online account site was much lower than the quote we had just been given, I was told that our profile would be updated. Sure enough, when I got off the phone, I logged into XE and saw that the new quote was 100 euros higher than it had been 15 minutes earlier though, interestingly, not as high as the quote I had been given on the phone.
MORE THAN A YEAR LATER: XE is now using HiFX and therefor no longer convenient for Canadians living out of the country. Never having been offered assistance of any sort from them, I decided to try another transfer company. We're now with TorFX, a British company that's been amazingly helpful, although it's meant setting up an account with Barclays. We'd never use XE again.
