Property owner cancelled our reservation while we were en route, the day of check in. VRBO gave me a number to their "same day booking department". So I'm thinking they'll help us find another rental. Well, the number is for expedia. I guess vrbo/home away/expedia are all the same company. They wanted to put me in a hotel for 2 days, at my expense. That's it.
I ended up booking something in another town, at a higher cost, and am losing two days vacation. Unbelievable. Last time ever using this company.
4530 Bayshore blvd NE, St Petersburg Fl, first week of June 2021. It was dirty, dust, dirt, spiders and hair collected in corners, floors needed mopping, outside had mold and mildew, and entrance was cluttered and had many dead plants. Mattress as dirty and stained badly. Cockroaches and centipedes ran in some rooms. In need of repairs kitchen faucet fell apart, tiles in shower loose and came off, holes in ceiling, appears from water leak. Unsafe piles of building materials about the property. Only positive was convenience of the pool. VRBO or owner/whomever dropped the ball wont use VRBO. Do not recommend VRBO or this property.
This is a going issue. I am spending so much time contacting vacasa (booked through the Vrbo site and vacasa team is not answering). I talked with 4 different agents yesterday but they never responded. My coworkers are staying in the dark house still.
Below was my claim and sent them an email multiple times.
Please send someone ASAP to check and fix the problems.
These are the issues of the house: URGENT
1. Lights are not working - living room, room 1
2. Poor cleaning conditions -cockroaches, mold, too much hair on bedding, too many stains on the sofa, and all over the house.
3. The photos from the advertising are NOT true – deceived!
Just reserved a place at Lake Weir Florida, 2 weeks out, paid for it, then 2 days later got cancelled, no reason what -so -ever. Can only assume it was about money where someone renting before us or behind us were paying more. The owner stated he refunded my money. Also, I bought a travel policy. Also, rented a place in Glendale Az, got there, then the landlord changes my reservation resulting in my renting a hotel room. I called VRBO, they will tell you, they cannot do anything for you. I am done with them!
Horrible experience! The worst property I have ever stayed in! No working toilet and the owner told us to just wait it out till the morning to see if it fixed itself! It smelled awful, the ceiling had mold, the floor was sinking. Customer service is the worst! Two days into this now and all that has been done is redirect us to other numbers. The chat is crap. I keep getting disconnected! Almost $600 for 2 nights and we could not stay due to the smell and no toilet! Drove 7 hours and had to find other accommodations! VRBO guarantee is not all it is cracked up to be! I have never experienced such poor customer service before!
From planning through departure at the end of our stay this has been an easy, pleasant experience.
The Overton Cottage and host could not have been any nicer. The views, quiet setting, privacy and sophisticated casual accommodations were worth every penny. The guest bedroom is separate from the master bedroom. Each had very nice bathrooms and plenty of towels. If you're looking for a quiet place with amazing views and no ambient lights, you just found it. The screened in back porch made for great relaxation watching the birds and the water. The Wi-Fi was not an issue. The Eastern Neck National Wildlife Reserve is just 1/2 mile south and Rock Hall is only about out 10 minutes north with shopping and restaurants. Our sailboat tour added to the experience and was very affordable with Captain Mark of Blue Crab Charters. We like to leave a place nicer than we found it. There was no way to do that. It was immaculate and very welcoming. Bravo to the owners.
In the post visit email for a review I wrote
" Place was great and everything was as promised. Very expensive though for a short stay, lots of fees racked up the cost. Also the trash rules were weird. Not sure why there is a $250 fee for cleaning if we have to clean up ourselves"
The review was rejected because I quoted prices and I was not allowed to edit even though they asked me too. It was beyond 14 days of arrival. They still send me emails to review.
I spent hours reviewing properties and finally selected one. It gave specific instructions for scoring the deal advertised, so I messaged the "host" to double-check the instructions. He responded, telling me that he had sold the property, so I would have to contact the new owner if I wanted to rent it. But VRBO would not allow him to give me the number. VRBO also refused to take down or correct the listing, saying that they would instead just wait until it eventually expired.
Space was very clean and well-organized but VERY small. Headroom was lacking... a real problem for males standing at toilet. Also, we could occasionally smell propane when bedroom window over bed was open. It was difficult to have true privacy, due to owners" home right next door, close to deck. Driving past Mystery Spot attraction, on same road, can be challenging. Considering owner rents out much larger ( with full kitchen and table), bottom space for $125, Love Shack was not worth $110.
I was inquiring about property #******* on VRBO. Com I was suspicious when owner wanted money wired directly into a bank account. This home no longer appears on site. Please beware. Not all are bad but just follow your gut!
If a home is listed for rent and the owner will only take paypal -- Be careful, you aren't covered as it's an intangible and real estate related. You have no protection. As a guest who reserved and paid on paypal, I was ripped off $1800. Owner refused to refund my money and vrbo did nothing about it since they allow paypal as a form of payment. What a way to do business.
We booked and paid for a Penthouse Apartment in Amsterdam for the New Year's Period 2019/20. Paid $5000 AUD in full on the 13th of September last year. Upon arrival the apartment was filthy and there was evidence of drug use. We were left dealing with a 12 year old boy as the Manager, then his mother then the owner. We left the property with a verbal agreement we would receive a refund. Next day the owner replied advising no refund. VRBO Call centre then advised they don't assist with disputes. No travel insurance would cover this. Will never recommend or use VRBO again.
Two nights, two people! Check out the attached photo of the cost! All these fees and charges are absolutely ridiculous! Unless your fee schedule and business model change, I will never use VRBO! You have become as unsustainable as AirBnB!
0 stars, if I could! We will never book through VRBO again! They cannot be trusted with your family's vacation. We booked our July vacation in January with another family. A townhouse that we would share together. The property owner, Don, cancelled on us just weeks before our vacation. When I emailed him, he lied and said that VRBO cancelled on us, and he had no idea why. Our friends heard nothing from him until they got to the property for our vacation, the property was under construction! They got moved around twice before ending up in a hotel! I emailed the property owner and VRBO 3 times and never heard anything back, no help at all! Vacations are too precious, too expensive to trust VRBO with! We finally did find a home through Airbnb but paid much more due to the timing of everything. We will go through Airbnb from now on!
We have traveled the world but luckily, we have never had such a horrible experience as this! We needed a property so my daughter could recover from surgery and was required to be close to Ottawa in case of complications. The host/management company charged us a higher rate than our VRBO conformation (I have the evidence) in addition charged us undisclosed fees. Both admitted there was an error but neither would fix the problem and blamed each other. The Host's management company Simply Comfort doesn't have an accurate description of the fees and process and communicate very poorly and was very rude when contacted.
Horrible experience. I rented 31 days at a VRBO property and paid $4000. Had trouble getting a hold of the property owner 1 month out. VRBO insisted all would be ok. Nope. 1 week out the property owner never sent me the check-in info. I got in touch with VRBO and - very, very long story short - they basically said i have to wait until check-in day to call them back and if the owner doesn't show, they'll help me with alternatives. Well, the owner never showed. Now i'm sitting here waiting for an email (2 hours later) from VRBO with alternative HOTEL options. They wont email me until tomorrow for longer term plans for the remainder 30 days. What a joke.
If you have any trouble with the platform, hosts, or the review process whatsoever, don't expect to receive help via VRBO's customer service call/chat options. They will copy/paste part of the company policy and hang up on you. Hard to think of another company that would tolerate operating with such an exceptionally poor customer experience.
After booking a reservation on a cabin and getting a confirmation with a nearly $2000 1st payment to my credit card I was shocked that 20 minutes later the reservation was cancelled. Okay, sometimes things happen like a double booking or something but surely they should be able to immediately process a refund right? WRONG!,,
Two weeks later I still do not have all my money refunded due to a "Glitch" in their system as per the customer service person I talked to. These people are nothing but scammers who use other peoples money to make it look like they are doing good business. DO NOT Under any circumstances use Vrbo to book a property!
You will surely regret it and not be able to enjoy yourself on vacation knowing you fell victim to these $#*!s.
Do Not list your rental property with these $#*!s or you will soon look like an $#*! too! Stay away!
Avoid. This. Site. They don't really care to make sure that the places being rented are legitimately as they described. Most people will try and advertise house rooms, with complete strangers living in it, as "house rentals." Unless you want to get crammed into a house, where you're stuck with complete strangers, and have it be sprung up on you last second that there's false advertising going on. Avoid this site and save your money. Was a complete and utter waste of my time and money. Will avoid them in the future, that's for certain.
Booked our get away thru VRBO in Madeira Beach Florida. The owner puts on a good face in the add but is anything but when contacted. When we first reached out regarding our reservation he responded with there's no reservation under that name, when provided with the rental information proof he responded contact VRBO not his problem. Even changed the add for the property, His new add states they are "open" for business during the pandemic. Of course they are but nothing else is. Just want to steal your money! Avoid property #*******
Answer: There are many problems with listing with VRBO/HomeAway. The 1st is that it is the largest company of it's size. While that may mean that you get more exposure, you also have more competition for getting your listing seen. For example, your listing could be # 300 out of 2,000. Most people don't want to search that far to find what they want because they can usually find something else sooner. In order to get a higher listing, you must pay more. I pay the highest rates they have for my properties in TN # 191351, 189535, & 289723, i. E. over $1,500 each. Listing position is also based on a number of criteria which they mandate. We have no control over some of those criteria. For example, listing position is based on whether or not guests USE VRBO/HomeAway on line booking. Initially,. VRBO/HomeAway required that we OFFER on line booking in order to maximize our listing position, so I offered it. VRBO/HomeAway then changed their criteria & now guests must USE on line booking in order or my listing position drops. I have no control over whether or not they USE VRBO/HomeAway & I don't recommend it for several reasons (more on that if you're interested). Listing positions are also determined by the number & quality of reviews. Again, I have no control over whether or not someone writes a review nor how they rate a property. What may be a 5 Star for someone may only be a 3 Star for someone else, but I'm at their mercy to provide a review & to rate it well. There are many other factors that go into listing position. As I said, I try to maximize what I can & If I'm luck, my property will be listed around 50/200. I get much better response from FlipKey by TripAdvisor. As I mentioned, I pay VRBO/HomeAway over $1,500 for each property. I Pay FlipKey by TripAdvisor about $450/property for #'s 6588094, 2386143, & 3746421 & get much better results. The problem with FlipKey is that it's hard for someone to search for a specific property using the property #.
Answer: VRBO will not help anymore with anything. Homeaway bought them and there is no personal contact with owners anymore until they pay through the site. I don't know about negative reviews. Never see any. If there was a way to avoid VRBO and Someway I would do it; but they have the corner on the VACA rental market now.
Answer: I have the same problem. I don't think they have any.
Answer: Vrbo will NOT get involved in any way. They will not arbitrate on anyone's behalf. They are strictly an advertising website. Carefree travel insurance & all the other stuff is just to make renters feel more comfortable to rent. They hardly ever pay out if there is a real problem. You can sue in small claims court, in the city & state you rented in. The only defense you have is if you paid with a credit card to do a charge back, & even then its hard. You have to have documentation to prove you case. However, vrbo won't contest the chargeback if you can get your credit cad company to work with you. Best to leave a review that warns other renters to stay away. But vrbo approves the reviews before they are posted.
Answer: I have spoken with them so many times yesterday and today with no fix my problem. The number is 1-877-228-3145. I wish you better luck than I have had.
Answer: Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.
Answer: Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.
Answer: A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share
Answer: Try airbnb to rent part of your home
Answer: Same issue for us. The house we rented had glowing reviews and when I tried to post an honest review it still has not been posted.
VRBO has a rating of 1.4 stars from 2,000 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with VRBO most frequently mention customer service, credit card and property owner. VRBO ranks 152nd among Vacation Rentals sites.
