Scribd is an audio book company, which has ZERO customer service reps. That seems appears a deliberate tactic to keep subscribers hostage, and their funds. Canceling MUST be done on their terms, which I found impossible. Only on their site or app. I thought I had and received no confirmation of my canceling. They are a dishonest company, that needs to be investigated by the US and (MN) AG's offices. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE. I did, and when I attempted to cancel, and thought that I had, Scribd continued to charge my card $12.95/month. What kind of a consumer-facing company has no customer service reps? A shady, dishonest one, in this case.
The site will present you with useful documents you are looking for, and blur it right where you need it. Then ask for your facebook login. Then ask for your credit card. Etc. It is a constantly escalating carrot and stick game and I will never give this company money because of how slimy they are with their cost.

I'm just another victim of unouthorized credit card charges, they charged me a total of 63$ for 7 months straight, without me knowing. STAY AWAY! The company is a huge scam that will steal your money as soon as you show interest.
Hi Henry- We're really sorry to hear about this; a member of our support team can definitely help you with this! Please email us at help@scribd.com, then update your review with your ticket number and a member of our team will reach out to you shortly. Thanks!
I cancelled this account before the free trial ended and they still proceeded to charge my credit card. It took me three emails to get a reply. Although they claimed to give me a refund, they claimed that they never received my cancellation (I received an email confirming my cancellation) and that I had continued to use the account (another bold-faced lie). They claimed to give me a refund, but we will see if it comes to fruition.
Bottom line, avoid giving this company your credit card information, as they will proceed to charge it even after you've cancelled the account.
Hi Will. I've sent you a message last week requesting for your information to further assist you with your refund. Please email us at help@scribd.com and reply here with your ticket number. Thank you. -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I cancelled my subscription to Scribd in September 2017 and have since then still been charged for their services. I have not been sent a single email notification telling me they have been billing my account. I am very careful when I decide to cancel things and cancelled their service to go travelling. I haven't use their service in months. Terrible company I have never been treated this disgracefully before.
Hi Keighley - I'm so sorry to hear about these unexpected charges. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com and we can absolutely locate the charges and issue a refund. Thank you!
In mid-March, 2016, the latest book I found among those I wished to read was published in late 2014. I have searched for books by writers I enjoy and found a few, but none recent. This seems to be a means of charging a monthly subscription for books that would otherwise by "remaindered." The software implementation on the IPad is rather kludgy. I won't be going beyond the thirty day trial.
I started a free trial but found that it didn't suit me. I cancelled on May 5 2018 but my account was billed on 31 May. I guess I am just one more who have been scammed by this group. Is there any way of involving them in a legal way? Stay away from them. It looks like I will have to cancel my card and get a new one. More expense and hassle.
Hi Brian - I'm very sorry to hear about your unexpected charge. No need to cancel your card, we will absolutely help with a refund. In most cases such as yours, a user either had a second account they forgot about or they did not fully cancel the subscription. Regardless of reason, we absolutely will make sure your account is canceled and issue a refund. Please send us an email to help@scribd.com with ATTENTION JAMES in the subject line and it'll be personally taken care of. Thank you!
I purchased free trial and on the same day i unsubscribed and removed my card details but after 1 month they charged my credit card, i was shocked so they are keeping data of cards even after removing. This is pure scam
My ticket no. *******
I haven't received a reply from them yet.
If any of the scribd employees are watching this, i want you to refund me and delete all my card details
Hi Sushil we are sorry for any confusion here. We have located your ticket and it has been escalated to a specialist. Someone will be following up with you today. Thank you! - MR
On 29th april 2017, I subscribed for one month free trial on scribd. Today (29 may 2017), 8.99 $ were automatically debited from my bank account without my permission and my subscription is renewed without notifying or asking me for the same before renewing. Kindly reply and refund the amount.
Hi Yashwini. Thanks for writing in. You purchased and authorized a recurring monthly subscription which we try to make it clear on both registration/billing page. You ticket as been replied to. Please check your email for further information regarding your account. Thanks! -Donni, Scribd Customer Support
I've got charged $8.99 on 1/25/17, and I haven't even signed up for their service. Then, after I put in a ticket, which is currently unanswered, I've got charged $7.99 four days later! I don't know how they obtained my debit card info, but this thievery has to stop!
Edit: As of 1/31/17, they refunded the $8.99, but they have yet refunded the $7.99 they stole.
Update: On 2/2/17, they refunded the $7.99, and deleted my card information. It's scary how I was billed in the first place.
Hi Schiavonne, I've just replied to your ticket requesting further information to assist. I look forward to hearing back. Thanks! - Zoë, Scribd Customer Support
I did not sign up for this service and I'm not even sure what it is. I have tried to get an explanation and refund but they are requesting my complete CC number and was advised by CC company not to do that. It is a scam.
Hi Karen - Just to clarify, we will never under any circumstance ask for your full credit card number. The only information that is requested when attempting to locate a charge within our payment processor is the last 4 digits (suffix), expiration date, and the country where the card was issued. We rarely ask for the first 6 digits of the card, or the BIN - this only occurs when a suffix pulls up numerous accounts. We want to make sure we are protecting the security and prviacy of our users and accessing the correct account.
To explain the difficulty a little further: Credit card companies recycle the last four digits of their cards heavily, and we have over one million subscribers. The first 6 / last 4 digits only allow us to see the card like this: 1234-56XX-XXXX-1234. That leaves 99,999 possible combinations even discounting the CVV code, so this is safe to send over - we can already see this much information on the card. Again, we do not ever see your full card number.
With all of this being said, we'd be happy to escalate your case to a specialist that can take care of this for you right away Feel free to update your review with your ticket # and we'll make sure this gets resolved for you. Thanks!
I enrolled for scribd membership on 15th October. At the time of providing my card details, Scribd mentioned I can cancel my membership anytime during the free look-in period of one month.
Cancelled my membership about 10 days later and though that was the end of it. However, I got a message about 15 minus back that $8.99 has been charged to my card. Can Scribd explain why they give charged me despite my following their terms and conditions?
Hello Rangin - We apologize for any confusion here. Upon review, it looks like your case was resolved by one of our support specialists, Ben, in your support ticket #2396180. Your subscription has been canceled, you will not be billed further, and your recent charge was refunded back to your original payment method. Please allow 3-5 business days for your refund to process. Thanks for your patience and have a wonderful day!
Same problem as all the other reviews. Signed up for one day, tried to cancel twice, been ignored. Go to your bank/credit card company. The onus is on them to prove that you DIDN'T email them to cancel (in the UK it is anyway) so claim as far back as you can.
Hi Andrew, we're sorry for the cancelation trouble you've encountered. If you email our team, we'd be happy to take a look at this and provide you a refund for your recent charge. Please reach out to help@scribd.com, and then feel free to update this review to include your support ticket number so we can keep track of this here. Thank you.
They will charge you years after cancelling your subscription. I have to cancel my cards so they wouldn't continue to charge me. They should be sued for stealing people's money. It's fraudulent. It's a scam.
Hi Jacques, it sounds like you have an active subscription with us as we are unable to bill otherwise. Our support team is more than happy to help with a cancelation and refund for you. This company is fraudulent and prays upon customers, the creators, Trip Adler and Jared Friedman are sick animals because of what they do. You sign up for a one time service, then they charge you a monthly subscription (without the customer known... since you signed up for a stated "one time service fee") of $10.
Someone needs to sue these sickos.
Hi John, I just want to make sure you've seen the private message I sent you here last week. I'm so sorry to hear you've had such a negative experience with Scribd. If you were recently charged for a subscription you didn't intend to purchase and didn't use, we'd be happy to refund the recent charge. Please email us at support@scribd.com and include your order number (from the receipt that should have been emailed to you) and the email address with which you registered for Scribd. If you've already emailed our support team and received a ticket number, please go ahead and reply to my private message with your ticket number and I'll make extra certain we get this sorted out. --Jerry Goure, Customer Service Manager
If you borrow "too many" (I listened to three audiobooks this month) they limit the books on your saved list and make them unavailable to you for the rest of the month. Massive rip-off. For the next two weeks, I only have Charles $#*!en and the like (classic, freebies) available to me for the second half of the month. I bought the all inclusive $85/year membership. Ridiculous.
Hi there! We apologize for any confusion with your Scribd membership. Our catalog rotates as you read, and while some titles may not be immediately available, you will always have something to read! I have NEVER subscribed to Scrib'd, NOT even for a free trial.
So I was shocked to see my credit card being charged for a subscription.
I asked Scrib'd and they said it was used by an email address that I don't recognize.
I suspect foul play here - why would anyone steal my credit card just to subscribe to this?
Scrib'd was extremely unhelpful and refused to share any details with me.
We all need to do our part to combat credit card fraud, hence I'm sharing my unpleasant experience here.
Please BEWARE of Scrib'd!
Hi Ramzi. We apologize for any confusion here. Upon review in our system, your issue was fully resolved in your previous support ticket with us, under ticket number #3907490. Your case was escalated to a manager who confirmed that the subscription was canceled, any and all charges were fully refunded, and the account was blocked completely from our system. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please forward them to us via email so we may best assist you. Have a great day! -VG
Scribd never paid me for money I earned from works I had on their site several years ago. I have complained to them repeatedly, and they have ignored me, and closed the complaint.
(Update: Last ticket number for this is support ticket #*******. I have already gone to the Better Business Bureau about this.)
Hi Tim - I'm sorry to hear about this and I'd be happy to help resolve this for you. Could you please reply here with a ticket number from one of your previous emails to us? Thank you!
Under the pretext of a 'free trial', I entered my payment details for the account, only to see that there was a charge for it. Thereafter, I cancelled my account immediately, but I was still charged for the service for a month. I sought customer service care for this issue, but they quoted that this was based on 'terms and conditions' and I should have differentiated between a free account and charged account before entering my payment details.
I consider them a fraudulent business that does not care about bringing the best service for their customers - they are only concerned about getting more users charged for their 'free accounts'. Avoid at all costs as I believe there are better book reading services out there.
Thank you for your comment and I apologize for the frustration here!
It is true that we are a monthly service and you are expected to be charged monthly after the free trial, except we are always willing to help provide refunds.
Please update here with your ticket number to support, and I'll be sure to use that to locate your ticket and assist you as soon as possible.
I have been charged 4 months now and I don't even remember signing up for anything remotely close to this website. My CC company is not being useful either. How can I locate my account when I didn't even sign up for this site!?
