I had to contact customer service because of some missing cash back. My initial response from Heide was super quick. The whole thing was resolved in a day or two, and the correct amount was deposited into my ebates account. Thank you ebates for giving us real people to talk with, and for excellent customer service.
I started using Ebates in 2003 and can't say enough about their top notch customer service! When I have a concern I get a reply within the day. The deals given for cash back as well as additional promotions really add up quickly! Make it a habit to start every online shopping trip with EBATES=) Even if it's 1% cash back--that's 1% more savings on something you would have bought anyway=) THANK YOU EBATES for helping me save money!
I recently wrote to Ebates customer service in regards to the possibility of having my last Ebates check, which I had unfortunately lost, replaced. Almost immediately, I received a courteous reply from Chris in Customer Service. In subsequent correspondence (through email) my problem was resolved with utmost kindness. The result is that they are going to replace my lost check. Of course necessary precautions need to be taken on their behalf to void the original check, etc. Thus my replacement check will be sent next month rather than this month. Ebates customer service could not have been nicer! They even apologized to_me_ for any inconvenience although I was the one making extra work for_them_. I realize that their response could have been "Sorry, but our policy is to not replace misplaced checks" so I am especially appreciative of their generousity!
I've had an issue with my order made through Macy's. Macy's made an error with my order and then also refused to honor the Ebates percentage back. I reached out to Ebates regarding this matter since I had all proof (confirmation/cancellation emails). Macy's continued to refuse to honor the Ebates percentage back, but Ebates' representatives honored it for me instead. I've been using Ebates for several years and have been recommending their services to friends and families. My most recent experience with Ebates was excellent and I will continue using services with them.

I made a purchase through Ebates.com that I did not see listed in my account. I completed the online form to request an inquiry and I received a response within 2 days. I provided some additional information and the customer service representative immediately responded again and credited my account with the purchase although they had not yet heard from the retailer regarding my order. The representative was timely, addressed my concerns and solved the problem without my having to jump through hoops. Excellent customer service!
Though it was totally my own doing, by not reading what was part of the deal... ebates still gave me cash back on an item that wasn't covered. They were courteous and quick to respond when I asked where my cash back was.
Im not going to say ive not had any issues on here, but when i do, they handle it right away. You know there is a person on the other end of that email.

Customer Service got back to me the next day, and not with an automatically generated email -- but a real person, typing a real thoughtful response. I was able to email back to them and the same person responded again, and resolved my problem. Unreal in today's world. Super!
I am traveling to the Dominican Rep. To get married and my good friend is traveling with me to be best man, so I told him to sign up through me on Ebates and get cash back on his flight and hotel. I entered the order for him, it was his return flight, and his name is different than mine, his e-mail is different, he lives in a different state and he used his own charge card, a $572 first time order, and at first they paid the tiny amount of $3.75 to me. So I told them of the mistake, and they said send us his e-mail address and we'll correct it, when I sent it they didn't pay him, or pay me my referral. Then they asked for his Itinerary, which was sent and they refused to pay. It's not worth all the trouble only to be made a fool of. I told him how it is so great to get the cash back AND THEN THEY DIDN'T PAY. My opinion of this organiation has completely turned negative. My advice to you, is BEWARE!
This site rocks! I was having trouble getting my ebates reward from a certain store and I emailed customer service and right away they fixed the problem. They credited my account without making me wait even though they didn't receive credit for my purchase yet. Their fast and friendly and make it easy 2 receive money for purchase I'm going to make an any ways.
A recent "tell a friend" link was accidentally not used. Not only did they respond to my query within 1 business day, the resolution granted my referral bonus. They could have easily said "no" but that's not the ebates way.
I inquired about cash back that I thought that I had earned through a recent purchase. The Ebates team responded very quickly, efficiently and professionally. My issue was resolved in less than a week.
I had made a rather large purchase online, I wasn't sure if I had clicked the ebates button correctly, and it wasn't showing up on my account. I contacted ebates customer service, and within a day, I had a response AND my rebate had been credited, along with an explanation on how ebates works, The service rep was very sweet, extremely fast with an answer, and was willing to help me with any other issues if I had them. I love the idea of ebates. Why wouldn't someone ebate? I recently had a missed opportunity to ebate having tried to use a coupon while shopping. Then on top of that, the folks with support were so patient, kind and helpful with checks that I kept forgetting to cash. Ebates is one of my top-choice shopping sites. Cash back credit has always been accurate and come fast I haven't experienced any problem with Ebates. One of Ebates' biggest attraction for me is that from time to time they have "double cash back" promotions on some of the stores that I frequently shop at, such as Kohls.com, Kmart.com, and Sears.com, during which time the cash back rates usually beat competitors'. Cash back (in the form of check) accrues fast and threshold for cashing out is generously low (only $5.00 if I'm not mistaken). And the coolest thing about Ebates that you don't even have to remember to request a cash-out with them. Once the balance in your account reaches the minimum, they will send you a check automatically and you don't have to do a thing! From my only interaction with customer service that recently occurred via email, I can say that their staff is prompt to respond, courteous and helpful. Overall, very satisfied with Ebates. Way to go!
I've used Ebates for several years now and have received $296 cash-back. Ebates is a solid organization all around. The business-model fits perfectly because it benefits both the site and the consumer simultaneously. Their referral promotions are more than generous. They cash-back site options are the most extensive of any of these types of services. Customer service is top-notch.
As a poor, deal-hunting student, Ebates is an awesome service. The percent-back may not seem like much (usually 2-5%), but given the fact that this stacks with any coupon code you may find, it's free money that actually adds up quickly. Browser extensions make activating cash-back super easy, and I've never once failed to receive the cash back in a timely manner. Incorporate into your online shopping routine to save a few dollars here or there for very little hassle. Highly recommended.

Answer: I can't answer about the owner ripping people off. All I know is I have ordered from Rakuten numerous times and have nothing but praise for them. I haven't read the bad reviews but I've gotten nothing but good products.
