Grammarly

I'm a non-native English teacher. I went from teaching low-level teenagers to advanced adults preparing for exams. With grammarly I have the opportunity to help them so much more. I'm able to explain better why they should add or remove a comma from their texts.

I've been a copywriter for 25 years and no matter how hard I work on spotting typos and silly mistakes, there are always a few that slip[ the net. This is especially the case for longer-form content on which I am so closely focused, that I become blind to errors. I know other copywriters I've spoken to say the same thing. Grammarly makes a world of difference to this scenario, picking things up and making useful suggestions that ultimately speed up time to publication - and that's just the free version. It's also great for internal communications with colleagues using tools like Slack.

While I would love to pay for the premium service, I use the free service. They provide a weekly writing update which I find useful. It provides a percentage of users with productivity, mastery, vocabulary. I especially review the "tone" portion of the email. This will help you compose your writings with style and clarity like never before.

I really do love Grammarly, and it helps me in my calling as a Missionary in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Employment Services. Most of my work is done on resumes and cover letters for job applications. Grammarly helps me make sure spelling, grammar, etc., are good before anything is sent out to potential employers. I do understand that Grammarly needs to make money, but wish I could get more information without paying (I'm old and retired).

This would be a five star review if not for the cheap and unprofessional practice of "auto-renew." I knew I had auto-renew. I naively thought that Grammarly would act like most successful companies. I did not expect it to act like a cheap magazine subscription and not bother to send me a reminder. Grammarly has kindly taken the time to send me an email once a week on my Grammarly stats. Then, when Grammarly decides to deduct a large amount of money out of my account, no notice at all. Surprise! This is beyond unprofessional. It's a struggling-business move and Grammarly has a good product and it should be better than this. I'm disgusted and disappointed.

I've had grammarly for years but the second I had an issue, they were not there. I was horrified to find out my personal grammarly account was linked with an old work email and have been unable to get it changed to personal email. And they have sent repeated emails to a company I'm in the middle of suing, so, not good.

Though I was charged without notice the annual fee, when I addressed the problem, Grammarly did give me a full refund. I am giving them a 3 star because of the initial scare, but I am thankful they gave me my money back. I wish however, they would be more forthright in informing their customers. I believe they would retain more customers.

I am lacking in writing a good paragraph. I don't know what is the good adverb or verb I should use after the noun or object or what. If it sounds good then it will fit my sentence but after using this Grammarly, I've learned a lot and improved somehow. It corrects me if I used the wrong words or either, put punctuation incorrectly. Moreover, It suggests more words that may sound perfect to the reader. So, thank you for creating this application. It help a lot especially for me who don't have confidence in writing an English paragraph. Again, for creating this wonderful, awesome application thank you so much. It means a lot. Grammarly is for me a game-changer. The software has given me the self-confidence to go on writing, but it has also made me lazy. I try hard to write correct English but sometimes, only sometimes, I just leave it to Grammarly. I look anxiously at your reports. How did I do? Through the many pages, I can feel slow progress. Am I really getting better? The Internet and smartphone writers may have ruined the English language or is it just a development? A language is like a living animal. It does not stop to grow and develop. It is just me who is left behind. English has come a long way since Bernhard Shaw, or was it his wife? Grammarly is a friend but it can also be an unfaithful mistress. Correctly spelled words are left untouched even if is the wrong word. Maybe it is too much to ask? One thing though, Grammarly will always give me an easily understood explanation of my faults but also a pat on the shoulder. Thank you.

Grammarly offered a 7 day free trial. I cancelled on the 6th day of a one year subscription [which incidentally was almost double for what I pay for MS Windows or Office. They told me that I needed to contact another department. By that time I had gone past the expiration date and they charged me almost $160+, a full year's subscription, when I complained they reduced it to $29.95. It's not much better than the free edition that comes with MS Office.

Ok, I see that the consensus of the service is negative due to people relying on it too much. This site is reliable for catching some mistakes in your paper, but it's definitely not to be used as an actual real life editor! What you write should be edited by YOURSELF first and try to see if your writing makes sense to the person who's going to read your paper. Sentence structure and transitional words is what makes a paper readable, not a website that spots a misused comma.

The non-premium version catches a decent amount of mistakes but it's the premium service that locks the majority of your mistakes behind a pay-wall. In my opinion, I think it's worth the $30 for the month, it catches a lot of my mistakes such as commas, active-passive verbs, sentence coherence, etc.

This website is a good alternative if you don't have a person that can physically edit your paper. It is always best to allow a knowledgeable person to help you understand your mistakes.
