Airbnb advertises a supervision of their hosts with partial or full refunds for inaccurate claims by the hosts but this advertisement seems false since we received no reimbursement or acknowledgement for our hosts false claims and lack of attention to correcting the problems. It is difficult to find harsh or extremely critical reviews on the Airbnb site because the reviews are not published if Airbnb does not find it beneficial to them and their hosts. Therefore, every critical statement in review seems to be sugar coated. They will now only be an absolute last resort for my family.
As a guest I had my reservations cancelled few times at the last minute - and AirBnB could do nothing... so its always a gamble to lease anything with AirBnb - what if your host just does not show up?
With hosting things are even worse - if the guest doesn't want to leave AirBnb can do nothing and will tell you to call the police - police wont be able to do anything anyways so you have to start the eviction process. Happened to me and my friends. Not doing any business with AirBnb
Booked a place that was $108, after booking the total was over $235! All Fees! Which they were not up front about until after you paid. Then when you cancel they only refund 50%! Total scam, will never use again.
My account was banned due to being associated with somebody that Airbnb said it was not allowed on their platform. I was provided no further explanation. I've had no complaints from host and have used the platform for years and was removed without causation. I am a law, abiding Citizen, who is respectful of all my host and their domains, and was removed from being able to use these services due to an association that I am not even aware of. This company discriminates without cause and unfortunately feels no repercussions of it. It's exclusionary, it's discriminatory, and it is without basis outside of vague associations. I encourage anyone to hire legal representation that has been through similar encounters.
My recent stay at a property in Guadalajara, Mexico was a total fraud regarding the reviews. It was literally 18 nights of Hell. The place was filthy and the linens reeked of sweat. The floors were not washed in years, yet the owner stated that the apartment was immaculate! I posted a picture of slippers after a few hours of walking on the filthy floors. I had to purchase pillows, towels, and bed sheets because the ones in the apartment were disgusting!
The property is located on Calle San Felipe 39 (&45).
The reviews are fake! I was horrified by the conditions but due to Air B&B's poor customer support, I was unable to leave to another location. I'm surprised this owner from Canada even bothered to buy a place in Mexico because he behaved like he hates Mexican people!
The property was misrepresented. It's in need of some pest control, I saw a few roaches during the past few days of my stay. After waking up itching with what looks like bites I pulled the sheets back from a corner of the bed to discover there were three fitted sheets on the bed as well as a mattress cover. It exposed a filthy and very old mattress. I was so disgusted I stopped my investigation. I have some pictures of the condition of the home. It has a possible roach and bed bug infestation. I felt so uncomfortable I left a day earlier than scheduled. Also I Pty a request to change the dates of the reservation with the host. I contacted her and asked for an approval and got no response. This was an overall horrible experience and if it is typical of Airbnb I will not be using the service again, I also will actively discourage others from doing so as well.
Booked a business stay through Airbnb. The house was infested with cockroaches. They did refund all money except cleaning fee and one night stay. (Was there less than 24 hours) I was also promised a 50% off coupon for future stay that would need to be used within one year. I was booking a short getaway, thought I would use the coupon. Surprise! Airbnb now has no record of this. When speaking to a representative with Airbnb they said someone would call me in regards to this. I ask when bc I was trying to book the stay. Her words were "sometime" I said sometime she said "yes sometime". Seriously! It isn't necessarily about the money I DO NOT LIKE TO BE LIED TO! I do travel a lot for work and relaxation. I will not book through Airbnb again!
The app does what it's supposed to and is a good option. However, as a regular user I was disappointed to say the least when a negative review of a stat with a super host was removed by AirBnb, without any explanation. I was then denied the opportunity to re-submit a review of this place. This makes me question the integrity of Airbnb, because it was the first review of a new listing by this super host, and would likely put other off, which would result in reduced income for the platform. Highly questionable ethics if you ask me, and begs the question if other negative reviews are removed leaving users with a falsely positive impression of places, that are supposed to be a real reflection of the experience people have. There are other services out there now and I think people should explore them, based on my experience.
You don't know how the houses are and they only put photos that the owners send but airbnb doesn't refund all money that you have paid more airbnb does not have people who inspect the houses to verify that they are 100% safe in health and everything but look how they defrauded me with a houses that the basement was full of garbage, broken pipes stink of $#*! and urine, a bathroom didn't work, I don't know how the city government allows this where there are as many bacteria as meningitis, E. Coli that can infect
Terrible experience. Deposited £492 in credits and I can't allocate them to a reservation due to a system fault that nobody can resolve at Airbnb
Airbnb customer support is the worst I've ever encountered. I've been lied to on numerous occasions, hung up on and a representative even walked away while speaking with me mid conversation to take a personal call earlier today (You can't make it up)
I've had the issue now escalated supposedly to a manager who nobody in the company knows the name of which again is just another lie.
I'm now seeking legal action against this company for withholding my money and continuing to breach their own customer policies and obligation as a company operating in the UK and in this case withholding my money like some type of corrupt organisation.
I'm still pending a resolution to this and will be happy to amend my review if Airbnb can turn this around but at this stage it will be with my solicitor to handle the escalation through Small Claims Court
Airbnb should be a last resort option. I have only used them when I can't find a hotel availability and have almost always been disappointed. Most guests seem reluctant to post honest reviews for fear of offending the host and Airbnb does not actually inspect the properties to determine the accuracy of the hosts descriptions so its a crap shoot. Over the years the fees have also escalated in price with insanely high cleaning fees and Airbnb "service" charges which can be several hundreds of dollars. Their customer service and website platform are also horrible. They have shed many of their customer service reps so its pretty much all web based, another reason for opting for a hotel.
This place was filthy and Tim is dishonest and will try to destroy your reputation. After telling him I would report him to Airbnb if he didn't send someone to clean the place, he threatened me that he would give me a horrible review with any future Airbnb hosts if I gave him a review. I gave an honest review, including a compliment for sending cleaning people over. Seriously though, what kind of a host expects people to sleep in used (as in recent sexual activity evidence) sheets? I will probably never use Airbnb again just because of this experience. Avoid this place like the plague. You could catch it. I am including a picture of the threatening email he sent me.
I booked a place, paid for it and within an hour the guy cancelled our trip stating family emergency. Now I can't book another one because my money is not in my account! Also, I read the strict cancellation policy for us, the travelers. How we would only receive 50% back if cancelled. Well why don't the ones offering the places have a similar rule. They can just cancel at any time without consequence.
Host don't understand basics, no way to wipe your feet either door, they are so cheap the TV service doesn't work, no coffee, dirty fans with dust falling down and roaches. Then they demand a 5star review. Not possible ever ever
First time and last time I'll be using Air BnB as they have no regard for their customers but only want their money. Property listed did not look like anything in the photos. Would never pass a check by a health inspector.disgustingly dirty and the smell was so intense I had trouble sleeping. Could hear the owner walking overhead with family all hours of the day. Hot plate provided didn't work nor did the kettle. Constantly had to ask the host for supplies even laundry liquid to clean tbd filthy sheets. When I complained to Air BnB they said I was out of the 72 hour period and even though I showed pictures of the filth they fell back on their policy. Disgusting service and would rather pay more to stay at a reputable hotel. Never again
Once I received the address after booking and searched the rental I found it 1,000 cheaper. If you try to cancel your reservation you only receive 25% refund. Do not use AirBNB, they are a scam company just search through other more reputable companies.
The fact that Airbnb allows renters in illegal israeli settlements is definitely immoral, and possibly in violation of international law. I will not be using their services as long as they run those listings.
We are in Sorrento, Italy now. Booked an apt for 4 of us. Terrible experience. Electricity constantly goes off. Have to reset the power breaker 4 flights of stairs down 4-5 times per day. Power goes off even when we're not here. Also, no hot water for 3 days. No resolution so far from the property manager - he is pretty much mad every time we contact him. Will never book thru Airbnb again.
Tried twice to book over Christmas new year period prices quoted on web site where reasonable but when booking reply was 1) closing for renovations highly unbelievable 2) rates are wrong if you want to book it will be double that price
Over it went elsewhere and got a better deal
The customer service for Airbnb for owners is terrible, I heard some nightmares, but had to live one with them recently. These guys simply don't cover anything and find every possible way to not cover any of the damages and issues that will inevitably happen when having renters. I may lose money by deleting my place from here and going directly to their competitors, but at least I know I'll be treated like a human. Get additional insurance, you'll need it, their owners coverage does nothing.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
