The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with many customers praising the platform for its ability to connect them with a diverse pool of talented designers and for facilitating a creative contest process that often yields satisfactory results. However, significant concerns have been raised regarding the quality of designs, with accusations of reliance on stock imagery and lack of originality. Additionally, customer service appears inconsistent, with reports of inadequate support and difficulty in resolving issues, including refunds and communication problems. Overall, while the platform offers valuable opportunities, the execution and support may require improvement to enhance customer satisfaction.

My account got automatically suspended I dont know why! I gave all my efforts to their contest then this is all I've got wtf
I also was kicked out, even though I managed to get into few final rounds. The last competition I got in and now I am suspended for substandard design. Really!?
I joined this site and participated in a contest. Submitted a few designs and was among a few finalists selected by the client. Submitted more designs in the final round and suddenly my account was suspended due to non-standard quality of work! RED FLAG!
Hi Fati,
We understand how disappointing it is to see your account placed on hold, and we do appreciate the time and effort you've put into creating concepts. Hopefully you can see by our email correspondence that this is not a permanent hold. We only ask that you submit a portfolio because your current entries do not appear to represent our minimum quality standards.
99designs is a professional marketplace, and we are dedicated to cultivating a community of designers who are consistently creating unique, well crafted designs. To this end, each designer account is reviewed personally by a 99designs staff member. In order to remain objective, we do not judge quality on things like education, certifications, or even contest ratings but rather on the actual quality of the entries themselves. We use these basic, universal graphic design principles as our forms of measurement: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204862935-What-are-99designs-quality-standards-
During this period of absence we encourage you to work on your designs skills. Your suspension is *not* permanent, please make note of this. You will be able to re-apply once we open the application period, so you have a chance to reinstate your account.
Best of luck - we hope to see you in the next application period. Feel free to contact our support team with any further questions: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Well I'm just getting started with 99designs, looked for a contest, submit logo, rated, and yes made it as a finalist, their was 3 of us left, then i submit designs just as what the client have suggested, and stayed all night, submit few designs for the final, saving other designs which still on work, and suddenly, just this morning, email received, 99design suspended your account: "Thanks for your interest in 99designs. Unfortunately the current quality of your work does not fit our site standards"... well sh** happens, you got interested, made effort, hoped, and whoosh bye bye, just for quality, but didn't mind the effort and creativity

I love the contest approach to design. You feel 'spoiled' by all the designers who hop onto your contest and share their best concepts and talents with you. I'm humbled that the almost 90 submissions I received came from designers who could've been designing for other brands. But they chose mine and I was so happy. The final design captures our vision and mission perfectly. I will definitely work with 99designs again and refer them to others.
Hi Steffi,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience on 99designs- we are so happy you came to us for your design needs!

I was in need of a great design for the cover of my ebook. I not only got 158 designs, most of them were very high quality. I was blown away! The cost was about 25% of the quotes I received on another site. So not too expensive! I am so glad I took my time and worked with 99designs, it was a great process from beginning to end. I am so pleased with the professional-looking publisher-worthy cover design I chose. I will definitely use 99designs again.
Hi Yvonne,
We are very excited to hear that you had a great experience for your ebook cover contest! We love your tips for other future customers as well, as we agree- feedback is vital to great design:)
Thank you for coming to us for your design needs!

Mediocre work provided by logo designers. Highly unprofessional and rude 99Designs staff. They lure you with the promise of a full refund but they don't consider you wasted 4 or 5 days for NOTHING! Stay away. I started two project on this platform and both of them fail miserably. I have been in the business of web dev for 19 years. This 99Designs site rates among the lowest I have see in the industry. Case in point: When they cancel an order, if you try to go back to the page a message display read "NOTHING TO SEE HERE"... (keep moving I guess.). I find this message as arrogant as the support staffer who hanged up on me. BUYER BEWARE!
Hi Peter,
Thank you for the feedback, and I am sorry to hear you haven't had a good experience on 99designs so far. We would love to take a closer look at your account to see how we can help moving forward.
In regards to cancelled or refunded contests, once we issue a refund the designs and messages will be removed, and thus both clients and designers will no longer see the entries: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204108729-100-Money-back-guarantee-For-real-. We do have a commitment to protect our designer community, and when we refund a contest the intellectual property of those designs still belong to the designer(s), and will no longer be visible.
If you’re up to it, we’d like to chat with you about your contest experience to see if there’s anything we can do to make the experience better for you in the future: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

At first I was impressed with the concept. I work in the marketing world but didn't have the time or resources to work on this myself and we needed a professional logo for our real estate group. This seemed to be a great solution. We received a variety of designs-I'm sure some of the designers were original and the interaction with designers was good. Unfortunately a design popped up at the end of the second phase-we ran a poll and this new design rose to the top so we ran with it. I had to spoon feed most of the creative but ended up with the basics to work with.
I was disappointed to find the logo that won was not original at all-it was pulled and copied directly out of Adobe Cloud Library. I wish one of the designers that worked so hard to create something original for us had won. I guess we got what we paid for. So sorry for and to all the designers out there who produce quality work.
Hi Victoria,
I am sorry to hear about your experience on 99designs.
We do have a strict Designer Code of Conduct we expect all of our designers to adhere to (https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204761605-Guidelines-and-policies-at-99designs) and if a designer breaches this code, we will take action against their account.
It does look like you've been in touch with one of my colleagues, so I will have her reach out and follow-up with you as soon as possible!
-Rosalie from 99designs
This is the 3rd time I've used 99Designs - I've been very happy each time. My experience has been great as designers who have learned how to interact professional with clients emerge as they ask for feedback and communicate with basic business courtesy - not all have yet learned how to do this... the ones that do know how to be businesslike but friendly I have found to be easier to work with - it's been great!
Hi Cynthia,
We are thrilled to hear you've had such great experiences with 99designs! We agree- feedback and collaboration is vital to great design, so we appreciate the time you've spent with the designers:)

Will continue to write the review unless the money is refunded
We didn't use any of the services but was charged in full
The support team continue to promise the money will be refunded but never happens for more than a year now
I can't believe how bad the design came out
The worst part is you can't cancel the service, you will be charged in full
I used 99designs.com for their basic logo package. It was fun and fascinating to see my vision come to life from the designers perspective and then work together to create a professional finished product. With respect to the logo project, I consider the 99designs process the best overall value on the market.
Hi Barry,
We are very excited to hear that you had a great (and fun!) experience. Thank you for coming to us for your design needs!

I would not recommend them at all. I have used them for years and now they lock me and state all new fees and bull shi#
By suspending accounts and not offering a different way to participate to improve, is not very encouraging of designers to want to come back and participate.
Funny how I was in the running to win one contest, and received very good feedback from another and now somehow after 2 years, the quality of my work is what? Bahahahaha
With sites like designhill, designcrowd, there is a whole world where I would rather participate and I do and make money.
Don't bother with 99designs, not like they pay benefits or support people working.
Just discovered 99 design today... as a designer, I'm just scared of giving up my personal information to them going by all these negative comments. #WalkingAway
I have been a freelancer in 99d for over a year, and overall I would say it is the most professional site of its sort in all aspects.
I do not know how the experience is for a customer, but judging from its interface and options (brief, examples, engaged designers, etc.) I would say that it is similar with a designer's experience, which is a very high quality service.
Also: good quality-control, good designer (/customer?) support, and some awesome designers!
There have been times that made me frustrated, but if you have a realistic view of yourself, design, and the business vibes its all good in the end.
As a 8 year graphic designer I decided to give 99designs a shot. I designed a logo for a pizza company and followed all the procedures necessary to enter the design contest. However, within a day my account was suspended from 99designs. I don't really know why it was suspended but from the email they sent me it stated "As a result, we have put your account on hold. We encourage you to improve your design skills." I thought this was a slap in the face and really unprofessional the design contest that they host should be decided by the client and not 99designs cause ultimately the client is more important. My suggestion to all new business owners out there please hire a freelance designer that will take care of your business in the long run. The best designers build companies a brand identity not just a logo. 99design robs freelance designers for there craft. They get a bunch of designers thinking they are going to win some quick cash but they end up spending more time and work then the actual cost of the design. The one element that is missing is the personal relationship between the designer and the client and that is something you cannot replace I wouldn't recommend 99designs to anyone after this incident.
Ive had this account for 6 months maybe submitted a dozen entries and all if a sudden i get suspended for lck of quality? Have you seen some of the crap people submit? Its a joke. The last contest i entered i was having. $#*! of a time cropping my logo so i withdrew it a couple times to get it right... i smell robots...
I've had my account suspended after 5 days and 3 contest entered because, "your designs did not meet our site's quality standards". After the suspension, I've received 3 feedback messages from the contest holders awaiting my response to which I can't because I can't login. I will now have no chance of winning those contest because of this.
This notion that 99designs is upholding design standards by suspending your account for 3 months and then letting you submit your portfolio for review makes no sense. Art is subjective and if the client likes what I've submitted, how can someone from 99designs intervene and decide that it's not quality. Should the client have the last word. I submitted original illustrations, no clip-art, but that wasn't quality? The worst part is that it was just cut off from one side so now the clients can keep sending me feedback and I'm just muted from responding.
If the bar is that high for 99designs, then you should have to be reviewed before you can get an account so no one's time is wasted instead of being in the middle of contest and then just silenced. At least, have it so I can't enter any new contest without a review but I can continue contest I'm already entered in. This is no way to treat REAL people who are just trying to make a living.
To everyone who's complaining that 99 has banned their accounts, I can guarantee you that it was a righteous decision. Bad designers get removed from the platform and those who show adequate skill level, stay and eventually get promoted. I solely support myself from 99 and whoever claims they're scam or whatever is just spreading blutant lies. You can freely contact me at *******@gmail.com and I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.
For any potential clients reading this, don't you think it's better to have a handful of designers that are actually good and will provide you with a great design, than having a bunch of copycats and people who have just discovered Illustrator seven days ago?
Hey Milo,
Thanks so much for your review and explanation! We do strive to help our designers grow and expand their skills, and we appreciate your feedback. I can see from your portfolio you are doing awesome work as well:)

Answer: Hi Devon, Thanks for reaching out! If you do not see a bundle package that fits your needs, we suggest starting with one contest and then work with your winning designer via our 1:1 Projects for additional design needs you may have. I would recommend starting with either a Logo + Business Card Contest (https://99designs.com/logo-business-card-design) or Logo + Social Media Image Contest (https://99designs.com/social-media-pack). Here is some additional information on our 1:1 Projects: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/articles/204760975 Please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Support Team and we can explain the options in more detail: https://support.99designs.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
