Travel fx ltd ripoff
Like others on this site I have suffered at the dubious conduct and cynical exploitation of customers who entrust Travel FX Ltd with large sums of money, expecting an honest and speedy exchange transaction.
I was unfortunate enough to telephone them on a Thursday for confirmation that, should I order them, would I receive £500 worth of euros by noon the following Monday (cutting it fine I know as we were leaving on the Tuesday morning.
I was assured that I would receive them by pre-noon Recorded Delivery and they proceeded to suggest it would be easier to take my details there and then over the phone.
I'll try to keep this short but basically they withheld the exchange on the grounds that they said they had emailed me to ask for a further £2 and a few pence to round up the amount to make it more convenient to package the euro denominations. I wouldn't have minded at all but I never saw the email and when I rang them after the delivery deadline they said NO they hadn't sent them, NO they wouldn't be sending them and NO I wouldn't get my £500 back in time to purchase euros elsewhere. This disgraceful business practice, which they were obviously well practised in, left me only a few hours to madly arrange to get another £500 and to obtain euros at a far worse exchange rate.
My point is that (a) they could have rounded the transaction down and refunded the difference or (b) provided £500 worth which is what I'd asked for and the order value they'd accepted or (c) telephoned me when the extra £2+ hadn't arrived after a short time. Heaven forbid that they use option (d) which would have been to complete with the rounded up figure and requested the tiny difference after the event.
Any of these would have been what any decent company would have done but no, Travel FX Ltd would rather cause innocent holidaymakers an enormous amount of inconvenience and cost, totally out of proportion to the petty extra £2+ which they said they'd asked for.
Needless to say, they DIDN'T refund my money for several weeks and then had the audacity to charge me £71.02 in, I assume, cancellation fees for an exchange which THEY prevented from completion and reversal fees for changing my £500 back to sterling which is obviously nonsense as they never changed it into euros in the first place. It is really annoying to think that they hold us customers in such contempt that they think we'd accept this type of behavior.
I am not accepting this and took legal advice. They have 14 days to pay the rest and then they'll be dragged through the small claims procedures which, at the very least, will cause them no little inconvenience as I will summons them if they ignore it. I know £71 odd isn't a great deal of money but why should I allow them to take it from me. I hesitate to use the word steal even though that is what I believe it to be.
AVOID AVOID AVOID. This company is run by a bunch of thieves, DAMIAN GEORGE is the biggest one. I will try not to be so long and tell you my story but please if you want a peace of mind avoid these people, they drive you insane. In brief, I ordered £7500 wanted them exchanging in euros around December 2011 as I wanted them taking with me abroad to my home country, they basically never arrived. I phoned travel fx (I wouldn't even call it a company) several times and I have had the most difficult times in my life with them. They claimed to be doing some money laundering checks on my order because to them it was suspicious. In order for them to verify the source of my funds they requested large amounts of documents (passports, bank statements, pay slips, utility bills) which I provided them with immediately. They were still not happy. They wanted them certified by a public notary, and I had to do that for them which cost me £20 to do. They were still not happy. I then realized that Damian George the thief who is the director is playing a dirty game and is actually trying to rip me off. I spoke to him a number of times and to the staff and I got all sorts: I had the phone putting down on me, I had them shouting at me, my emailed ignored, my letters ignored NO REPLIES. You just feel powerless. They have got your money, and there seem to be nothing you can do to have it back. Damian said at the time, the money cannot be released until the money laundering verification is done, and when I kept chasing on the progress of this, I got told that they are going to take as long as they take. I then thought, it is about time to do something about it. I first went reported it to the police, then I found out that it is really a civil matter that has got to be sorted in county court. So, I didn't hesitate to make a claim at the county court against travel fx (after putting my complaint in writing to travel fx twice which were ignored by them), I then got a judgment made against them, and they were given a deadline by the court to pay the money back to me but unfortunately they kept ignoring the deadlines and the reminders. I then went to enforce with the sheriffs office which is the last step I could take to try and recover my money from travel fx. Indeed, after SIX MONTHS of legal procedures, I could finally recover my money from these terrible people by the sheriffs officers who actually attended travel fx address and seized some of their goods and basically forced them to pay the full amount back to me by a certain deadline otherwise they will sell their goods at auction. I LOVE THE SHERIFFS OFFICE. I urge everyone who has an issue with travel fx to consider JUSTICE, take it to court, you will get your money back. DO NO WASTE YOUR TIME AND EFFORTS trying so hard to phone/email or speak to them, they just drive you crazy. Write to them once and twice making a complaint. They will ignore, then take it to court. DO NOT WORRY about the little you have to spend in court fees IT IS WORTH IT. Damian George has given me hard times, and I know to many other people as well and WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW. Just to mention, I knew from the sheriffs office that about the same time I made my claim, there was another claim of £1000 made against travel fx from another part of the UK. IT WORKS, TAKE IT TO COURT. Also NEVER TRUST SOME FAKE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT TRAVEL FX BECAUSE IT IS DEFINITELY MADE BY THEM.
I never usually write reviews but after reading some reviews i feel like i need to!
By the looks of comments below there must have been reasons that the customer has not told us that have caused the mishap. Surely if you were sending money to a company you never used before you would read the terms and conditions which i must say - weren't very long and were very clear.
I had a great experience with TravelFX. Firstly i was worried using such a site as i never have before, me being a late 50 something year old woman not so good on the computer. I called the company and asked how the process worked they said that you place your order online then you'll recieve and email with the payment instructions and so on and that they would need to see the money in there account before 12 o clock on a day before they could dispatch.
I had trouble with my online banking and was really worried and could not arrange for the bank to transfer money before the deadline and with the weekend coming up as i knew the post does not work as normal over the weekend - travelling the monday morning i was hysterical about my money.
I called them numerous times panicking and they could not have been more lovely and helpful i do not understand where you are coming from stating that the customer service was bad when i had the opposite feeling towards it! I feel that most companys offer a very standard q+a feeling over the phone. They were very personable and really went out of their ways to help.
There was nothing they could do about the bank transfer as that is obviously out of their hands. But they suggested that if they receive the funds before 12 oclock on the friday then they could deduct the £15 for next day saturday delivery ( i also checked this on the royal mail website to ensure i wasn't being mugged off and this was the correct price) i agreed so they kindly deducted the charges and adjusted my funds. I recieved by package on the saturday morning and couldn't have been more delighted.
I feel they have been given a bad name on this site for unfair reasons due to naive people. I could not be more happy to reccommend and would will use again and again and again.
Also to the below comments, when did you think shouting at the staff was going to get you anywhere?
Anyway i had a lovely holiday and am delighted with the service.
**PLEASE AVOID THIS WEBSITE - IT IS RUN BY COWBOYS - DAMIAN GEORGE (THE DIRECTOR) BEING THE WORST ONE.
I wont waste your time telling my stroy from start to finish, but basically I placed an order on a Wednesday for delivery the next day. Then on the next day the money hadnt arrived so I chased it up and they said I was 60p short on my transfer - (I asked to exchange £500 to EUR and they suggested £500.64 to make like easier for them) but because I didnt want to make it £500.64 they sat on my money and didnt send the currency. So I called and asked them to cancel the order as I was travelling the next day, and now they have charged me over £35 for the pleasure. I have had numerous coversations with them and have just been told "it's in our terms and conditions" which I dont doubt but they could show some flexibility.
I have now spoken to colleagues here and out of a company of 11,7 of us have used this bunch of cowboys and none of us would use them again, solely due to the customer service and the terrible way the company is run.
**WHATEVER YOU DO, AVOID THIS COMPANY - GO TO THE NEXT ONE DOWN ON THE COMPARISON SITE, WHOEVER THEY MAY BE! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR MONEY!**
On another note, the same day I was having all this aggro with TravelFX I placed an order online with Travelex. I then collected the money from Gatwick Airport Airside and they were absolutely great! It was exactly the same cost / amount as the jokers at TravelFX but they were brilliant at Travelex. I just took the print out and job done. Also they let the people we were travelling with exchange their money at the same rate I got online rather than the one at the Airport which was a really nice touch.
So whatever you do, dont use DAMIAN GEORGE and TRAVEL FX - they are TERRIBLE! I travel quite a lot and from now on its Travelex all the way for me!
