J Lanz Services LLC
September 4, 2024

Before hiring this company, please read the following message: JLanz Thumbtack Statement: "My focus is on quality, providing the customer with a fair price, delivering excellent work, and ensuring their complete satisfaction." JLanz promptly accepted the job. With good ratings, I went ahead and hired them for my mother's 90th birthday present—fixing her ice maker. Nine of us kids happily chipped in for the repair. Two men came to my mom's house and spent 2 hours trying to install the ice maker. One of them was in training, and we have a few witnesses to confirm this. The repairman was guiding the inexperienced worker throughout the installation. The company charged $350 for the job, but the ice maker broke down after just 2 weeks. When I called for a repair, I didn't receive any response from them for 2 days, both on Thumbtack and through their service number. After I posted a negative review, they reached out to me. Here's a summary of our conversations, or rather, what seemed like blackmailing: TEXT POST JLANZ "Good morning; I just saw your messages. When would you like me to check, or would you prefer a refund?" ME: Refund me so I can get it installed correctly and so on JLANZ: "Yes, of course I can return the money right now; I just need you to change the review to a 5-star one with a positive comment." ME: Is this the only reason you contacted me, because of the review? I wanted them to refund it because it was the right thing to do.
Jlanz: "The company has a policy; we cannot make a refund if the customer leaves a bad review." Me: expressed how upset I was. I also brought up we were billed more while the man was being trained. Jlnaz: "I didn't send an apprentice; it's just that they guys had to replace the wiring as well, so it took a lot longer because it was more complicated."
ME: I have witnesses; the young man did NOTHING with the repairman showing him how. He did not possess any wiring skills. Jlanz: "Please note that we installed a costly new machine and paid hours to repairs."
REALLY—no different than what anyone else would have done. BUT I guarantee they would not have billed me for training a new hire who probably damaged it in the process. (I do speak a little bit of Spanish; I had to tell him "NO" a few times and stop him and redirect him.)
Then I get this realizing she was losing the battle statement:
Jlanz: Hey, I just realized that the 7-day warrant has already expired, but I can send someone to check the ice machine."
She set up an appointment, not me, both day and time. I traveled to my mom's from a distance to be there; I did not trust them. They stood me up again. If their services are as excellent as described on Thumbtack, could you please explain why the warranty is limited to only 7 days? Never stated that, unbelievable. All workers I hired from Thumbtack stayed at least 30 days. NOOO, not Jlanz. If I had known this, there was NO WAY on God's green earth I would have hired them.
They are as dishonest as can be and will manipulate to get what they want. Wonder how they got so many 5 stars. NO way, unless they too were blackmailed. Will be seeing making a claim against them in small claims court. Having lawyers in the family is a bonus, and they messed with their grandma.

Used to be decent
August 25, 2024

The used to be a decent company, but in the past year they had made So many ridiculous and absurd changes to their operation, including having More than one toll-free number But nobody to answer them hourly machine seems to take a voice message that will be ignored forever and nobody will return a call.
Everybody else mansions, ask contractors or small businesses, are victims of their business model which includes automatic charges for arbitrary charges for they consider quality leads. Our company we keep thinking and wondering how they determine the quality of a lead only by knowing a few details of this person, and use this information to assign a price that will be the cost of the lead that will be applied to us. Pros.
As many of us have already Said a great amount of this leads can easily be identified as fake for different reasons such as unresponsive through the Thumbtack chat platform, Or they provided a fake phone number Or they provided a number that takes you directly to an answering machine seems to take a message but him today doesn't really do anything for you and obviously you never hear back from this person either from the chat or callback.
You could request a refund to Thumbtack, but of course this will be rejected.
I in the past where I was still able to talk to a representative over the phone, because now it's impossible, I was even able to show them they were going against their terms and conditions when rejecting a refund request and the answer I was given was that I was looking outdated version of their Terms and conditions and that it was current currently being updated. (Just at the moment when we were having that Phone call, What An amazing coincidence was that)
But I must say the day were very decent and I was very happy with them at the beginning a couple years ago but now they are just unscrupulous and have no shame or any sort of moral dignity when trading customers.
I strongly advise everybody who is thinking of joining this platform to look somewhere else And avoid Thumbtack, Angie, home advisor, yelp 100%
Triy to build Your brand and reputation little mouth mouth and encourage your customers to upload their experiences using Google reviews. Do best to provide outstanding customer service and this is the only way that we can fight back and get rid of this Scammers.

WHERE IS THE THUMBTACK GUARANTEE?
March 18, 2024

THIS COMPANY IS NOT HONORING THEIR GUARANTEE NOR THEIR PROPERTY DAMAGE GUARANTEE. THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE OF THEIR PROMISE OF A GUARANTEE IN CASE OF ANY DISSATISFACTION OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. THEY HAVE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO BLAME ME THE CUSTOMER OF NO PAPERWORK THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPLIED BY THE COMPANY THEMSELVES. THIS IS A SCAM AND A BLATANT DISRESPECT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT USE THIS SERVICE. THESE PEOPLE ARE LIARS AND THIEVES. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS NOR DO THEY CARE ABOUT THE QUALITY OF WORK PROVIDED BY WHOM THEY REFER TO YOU TO DO THE WORK. I HAVE SUPPLIED ALL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED YET THEY CONTINUE TO LIE AND MISLEAD ABOUT EVERY SINGLE THING. I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE MY MONEY STOLEN AND MY PROPERTY DESTROYED BY THIS COMPANY AND THEY DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO FIX ANY PROBLEM OR ISSUE. I NEED LEGAL; ACTION TAKEN AGAINST THIS COMPANY.

WHERE IS THE THUMBTACK GUARANTEE? 2/21/24 Promised to finish tiny little bathroom flooring and floor insulation, and drywall. Approx 40 sq ft. They only put in barely 1/2 of the insulation, not even 1/2 of the flooring, and zero drywall which was only 4 small pieces in this tiny bathroom. THIS WAS THE ENTIRE JOB. Holes in the floor were busted out with a hammer instead of using a hole saw. Boards were cut too short and they were putting in tiny pieces to fill in the gaps instead of cutting the flooring in normal complete pieces. Flooring pieces cut to where pieces were fitting too tight and would not allow expansion. They had no intention of using subfloor adhesive and that is what subfloor adhesive is made for. Corner 2x4s cut too short to even reach the floor. Flooring cut too short to even reach beams to attach too and were bowing when stepped on. Insulation that was barely put in completely fell to the ground in basement. Absolutely zero drywall put up even after being told some pieces were already cut and ready to just put up. All of this left in this condition when they quit job. All of this in 5 hours they were here. THESE WERE THE ONLY THINGS NEEDED FOR THIS JOB AND THEY COULD NOT EVEN DO ANY OF IT. They refuse to do anything to resolve all of these problems or refund my money for their absolute do nothing incompetence. Significant waste of materials. Significant damage to my property. Using my tools instead of their own tools. The most incompetent excuse of handyman service in history. They owe me $400 + Wasted materials + damage to my property.

Thumbtack.com Professional Business was a criminal who scammed me
August 10, 2023

I simply requested a Sokar Equipment review for a possible malfunction, which warranty company would work with a legal Arizona Solar Business and I pay labor costs. Easy I woulg give an estimate to the well known warranty company, they would approve deliver necessary equipment and I would pay the labor costs.
Instead Thumbtack referred a criminal who did unaujthorfized and nedver requested Electrical wsork because it was an emergency fire risk that I was in danger since I am Federally Recognized Medical Homebound Disabled Pderson. He said he was Solar vbut also a licensed Afrizona Electrician sincde hed did thdee work to save my life I owed $390.00. Not what I expected but I thought Thumbtack recomended Pro I paid not expecting Thumbtack to sell my private infornation to a criminal,
I have been communicating in writing with Thumbtack since 6.18.2023 proof that the company is not a legal solar company orf electrical company, wrfitten proof of tghe Thumbtack Pro utilizing tghe Thumbtack Platform to perform fraud on me and professional Legal Arizona Electrician who I am willing pay the Legal Electrician not me, $1,500 repairs of unauthorized electrical damages.
Thumbtack Sujpport in writing acknoledge and stated valdated my complaint as true no disagreement there. Thumbtack, com Support written statement is Thumbtack.com is a neutral party, Though they haven't provided documentation and I can't find any public infofrmation, IK was responsible for determing if a Thumbtack recomended Professional Busiess was really a Professional Business or a criminal. Thumbtack.com written statement was the criminal would give ne the $390.00 refund if I signed legal waivers provided by the criminal releasing him from any financial resposibility of his criminal damages to my property because he, the un qualified illegal electritian, had decicded that the qualified legal electrician was in error not him and Thumbtack has no control of illegal activity on Thumbtack.com Platform, I can't find and haven't been provided documentation I was responsible to monitor illegal activity on Thumbtack.conm Platform
Thumbtack.com acknowsledge and didn;t disagree illigal activity veing performed by a Thumbtack Pro on Thumbtack.com Platform. 8/10/2023Thumbtack.com iks still profiting selling tghe criminal leads for his illegal company, tghe criminal has my $390.00 and according to his Thumbtack.com website page not only is still fraudalent advertising but did a 20,000.00 illegal solar job for a Thumbtack, com customer who I hope doesn't have any issues because he has no construction license or construction insurance as requied by Arizona Public Law for any building modifications over $1,000.00.
Glad the criminals Thumbtack and tghde illegal business Mesh Bros Enterprises are still profiting where I, the Thumbtack Customer have to still have my solar equipment reviewed, my original request, but I was prfovided financial resposibilityh of $1,500.00 to pay for illegal activity by Mesh Bros Enterprises.
I did bnot receive serrvices requested and my home was damaged $2,000.00 by criminal activity because IK used Thumbtack.com as opposed to other referral companies where I wasn't unknowsingly put in a situation of a criminal approaching me. I, Marie Ishol. Publicly swear this is my true experience and all documentation has been submitted to Arizona Attorney Generals Office to review my claim of Thumbtack.com Fraudalant Advertising. Thumbtack.com did not inform me prikor tgo m y legal agreement with Thumbtack.com I was giving GThumbtack, com permission to sell my private inforfmation to a known criminal. The illegal solar company did not find publicly I wanted a free estimate for possible solar equipmdent failure, Mesh Bros Enterprises were only aware of me because I agreed for Thumbtack to sell that private information to Thumbtack.com's Private Professional Network.

Absolute Scam, let's get a class action suit together!
November 9, 2022

I registered on ThumbTack as pro. They charged me $170 from my card without my knowledge for a lead that didn't meet my target preferences. I put in my settings that I only work remotely and only with commercial companies. Thumbtack sent me a lead that wanted me to come to another State and do work for the church. The problem was also that the lead would not contact me and I couldn't even get in touch with him.

I was denied a refund for the lead. I intend to sue the service with a class action lawsuit. If you are also cheated by the service, then join the group https://www.reddit.com/r/FedupwithThumbtack/comments/wt7y29/a_place_to_share_stories_about_why_thumbtack_is_a/

Avoid Stevan Merriefiel at all costs!
August 18, 2022

I initially contacted Stevan Nerrifuekd for an assessment of my Baldwin Acrosonic Piano Stevan set an appointment for about 3vlweeks later. He came and iooked at the piano and said that it was affected by a case of verdigris causing slow action and dead keys. There was no sign of corrosion anywhere in the piano, which should have been a big red flag. Stevan said that he had a treatment that would take care of the problem, and assured me that he could return the piano to playability. He set an appointment for three weeks later. Several days before the appointment Stevan emailed me and said that he couldn't keep the appointment and wanted to reschedule another three weeks later. I grudgingly rescheduled with him. Finally he showed up for the appointment. He started to dismantle the piano in preparation for cleaning and started the cleaning in an efficient and workmanlike manner. Then he removed the action for verdigris treatment which consisted of his spraying copious quantities of WD-40 all over the. Action. Nearly all piano technicians advise against this practice as it is a quick cheap way of treating the symptom instead of adressing the problem. Repinning the action us the proper course of action which is cost prohibitive on a lower grade instrument. After this "treatment" was completed and the piano reassembled, Stevan began to tone the piano. I have observed other piano Tuners and in comparison Stevan seems to have a rather ham-handed approach in banging on the keys. Eventually hw finished initial tu ING, then completed final tuning At this point the piano was playable, but within days keys were not sounding and or MIT repeating properly. I emailed Stevan and reported the problem. A week to 19 days went by with no response from Stevan. I emailed him again with the same result, no response. The third time I emailed him and he said that he could perform regulating on the dysfunctional keys. Again it was on ordeal trying to schedule an appointment. You have to request an appointment on his website, which he chooses to approve or deny. He was supposed to be at my house for an appointment and when he didn't show up he said that he did not approve the appointment because he was in Cinn. I finally asked him to set an appointment which was for today at 12:30. When he didn't show up I got my phone to text him, I saw he had texted at 11:48 that he was 10 minutes away. I asked where he was, this was at 1:00. He said that since I didn't respond to his text he just went ahead to his next appointment. When I asked what happened to my appointment he said "we can TRY to reschedule another time" I told him to finish his work up and then come work on my piano, he refused. I think that he doesn't really know what to do and his constant cancelations are his way of a oiling the problem. At every turn in trying to deal with this individual I have meet met with one ordeal after another. Nothing ever went smoothly. Three and a half months since my first contact with Stevan Merrirfield my piano is still unplayable and he refuses to do any more work on it.

Terrible Customer Service & Horrible Business Plan
April 7, 2022

If you're a pro looking for clients, this is how it works... They get leads in through people searching for services you offer. They then connect that lead with 5 different pro's who each pays for that lead separately. For instance, you pay for a lead for $32. Each of the other 4 pros paid that same amount for the lead. They've just made $160 just to tell you someone is looking for the service you offer. Most times they earn more than you would earn if the client even decided to go with you because of they're ridiculous prices. $30 is on the low end for a lead for them. So not only do they charge crazy prices for what they say is connecting you to a potential client but they also don't care for you if that client don't respond to you, let alone book you. So every time a lead come through their system, they over charge 5 different people for it. Not caring who gets it. You end up wasting a lot of marketing money trying to be the first to respond to an over priced lead with a customer who may not even be serious about booking. Simply might be scouting prices. There's no commitment on the clients end, but the pros have to preload their account to be sent leads or have a weekly budget taken right out of their account. Often, these leads don't materialize & if they do every now & then there's still 4 other people who lose a lot of money without ever even having a chance to speak to that client sometimes. What do thumbtack do to incentive the ones who are paying them? Nothing at all. They now don't offer refunds so if you preload money to their site and don't like how they're charging you, forget the rest of it. They specifically told me they don't offer any free credits, or discounts to please their customers when they're having a bad experience. Let's not forget, you're the one keeping them in business. I over paid for 2 leads recently & never had the chance to speak with the customer & asked if I could be compensated for it... I was told that they don't care to offer me anything besides how to follow up with clients who I never even spoke with the first time around. Very careless in trying to help find a solution for someone who paid nearly $60 for 2 leads that I never received any communication on. Not only that, but the representative I had to chat with got in his feelings as if I asked him to go in his own pockets & started talking unprofessionally. Yes, you have to email or chat. They don't have a way to call & there's a reason why... They don't plan to offer good customer service to the ones paying them. Looking further I actually found a number for them but here's the deal breaker... Its for people who want to book a service. Not the pro's that are paying them. I have plenty of screenshots from my conversation with them. Ive never witnessed a business actually tell you they don't plan on doing anything to make their customer happy. As long as they got your money, they're good. They'll prey on the next upcoming business without a marketing plan so hopefully business owners look for this review before investing in a company that can care less about your success. Its all set up for them to take your money and run. I recommend looking into Facebook marketing & other tools for sure. If you're a videographer like myself, VidLead is a great new option. They don't charge you for every customer you talk to. There's only 1 fee to sign up & its less than what you're gonna pay with thumbtack to hopefully talk to 3 people. My best advice for business owners looking to gain new clients is invest some time into marketing. Build your own system. Way better that way. For clients looking to hire through Thumbtack, please take care of your service provider because they are being ripped off. I expect a response from them on this review to try & make it look as though they care or aren't wrong, disregard it. When so many people say the same thing, it has to be true. Only good reviews I found are the clients booking professionals, but that's a 3rd party. They don't control how we run our business and provide great professionalism. Another benefit they reap from us but don't care to treat us better. If your service was coming from an thumbtack employee, their reviews would be flooded with horrible ones. They're Trash. They charge you so much as if you're the only one paying for the lead. If you don't have a system that helps those that pay first have the greatest chance, at least stop charging so much. They'll never do that though. Too money hungry. Stay away!

Tip for consumers:

Don't waste your time.

Do Not Trust Their "Pros" - No Background Check Conducted
November 2, 2021

I used Thumbtack this past June to find a caterer for my October wedding. I was messaged by several businesses and I decided upon the one that guaranteed he owned everything we needed for the event "and more". He sent me a picture of a beautiful set of tables and chairs and said that because he had several restaurants, he owned everything and could provide them at a reasonable price.

Red flags began appearing when he rescheduled one of our meetings twice, only to send me to voicemail as I waited for him to finally arrive. My fiancé, now husband, called and the caterer had yet to have his number saved so he answered. He began making excuses as to why he thought we had scheduled the meeting for a different day and said that he guessed he could still come as if he was put out by a meeting we had scheduled weeks in advance. He was also already hours late at this point.

Fast forward to the day before the wedding, he brought the wrong tables two and a half hours late (he rented them and it is now apparent that he never actually owned the tables we agreed upon during our very first conversation). I incurred more florist fees as a result as she sat at my house waiting to create the centerpieces.

The day of the wedding, this so-called "pro" taunted my husband by saying the rain was a bad sign (he sent this text at 6:30am) and when my husband asked for reassurance that the member of his team to which our wedding had been assigned was ready to go, he assured us that all would go well. Well, they were supposed to arrive at 11am and now it's 1, 2, 2:30, (we had first look photos scheduled from 1-3 in a nearby town) and my husband is being sent to voicemail by both the owner and his team member who was supposed to run our event.

We finally hear that no one is coming as the person assigned was in urgent care and the owner finally responds (three and a half hours later than when they were supposed to arrive) and the owner offers to issue us a refund. My husband had some choice words for him (this is after hours of begging for someone to even give us the simple consideration of saying that they're not coming so we can make other plans) and all of a sudden, he claims that he was just about to fix it and send someone else over but he now felt threatened. Even if that had been true, why offer a refund and they would have been so late that it would have been barely salvageable.

Now that I've read the reviews on other sites, it is common for him to cancel last minute after he has already received full payment. How Thumbtack didn't know that he pulled this often is beyond me.

He canceled 3 hours before our ceremony was to begin. The amount of work we had done to renovate our backyard (my husband is an artist and he painted a mural, he designed and built a table that wrapped around one of our avocado trees, I created a floral chandelier from scratch and I even went so far as to send our florist pics of the table photoshopped into our space so she could envision and begin to design the centerpieces.) We designed everything ourselves and had thought about every minute detail. I went from tomboy to mini Martha Stewart during the planning process only to have our ceremony start late, our guests be left with nothing to eat during cocktail hour and we ate a late dinner off of paper plates with plastic forks. As another reviewer on another site mentioned, he did not even have the decency to apologize.

I trusted Thumbtack to do a background check but upon our own investigation I found that this man had a record a mile long... bad checks, fraud... it was unbelievable. We still have not received a refund and instead of enjoying our first week of marriage, I've been busy contacting attorneys, drafting demand letters and making couples' therapy appointments. This was supposed to be one of the best days of our lives.

It is implausible that a background check was ever done on this man and comparing his business' reviews on other sites, it is now obvious that this wasn't the first, second, third, fourth or fifth time he has done this to someone. I even found inconsistencies online in where he claims to have attended culinary school.

Do not trust Thumbtack's vetting process (the main reason I chose to use this site/app in the first place) and please do your own homework. I wouldn't wish this headache on my worst enemy.

Tip for consumers:

I would not trust their vetting process. A convicted criminal who routinely scams people out of their money and then doesn't show up is one of their "top pros".

DO NOT USE ThumbTack
October 1, 2021

I paid for a service that Thumbtack would not provide unless I required clients to write testimonials and provide email/contact information to Thumbtack in doing so. I chose not to request testimonials the very day I paid for service, because I would not ask those who could give me a reference/testimonial to set up an account with Thumbtack – to increase their database of contacts – and to get spammed by Thumbtack, or others Thumbtack sold their information to.

Because Thumbtack did not provide me the account I paid for, I tried to cancel the account. I received no response to my request. This is further indication of the lack of customer service/support others have written about. I turned to the bank to dispute it. It was easy for Thumbtack to refund me and to cancel my account as I requested, because I refused to force my clients to create an account and write a testimonial so that I could have my service published on Thumbtack. I received notifiaction that Thumbtack suspended my account (that I had requested be cancelled() because I had disputed the charge with the Bank:
Here is a copy of the email received from Thumbtack:

"We received reports of a disputed payments with a card associated with your account.

We take these reports very seriously. After looking into the charges, we confirmed they were legitimate. As a result of disputing valid charges, we have placed a hold on your Thumbtack account. We also provided documentation to the bank to prove the validity of these charges.

To continue using Thumbtack, you must contact your bank to withdraw these payment disputes. We can reevaluate the standing of your account after you send us a copy of your bank's confirmation letter verifying your disputes have been withdrawn. Please note, we can't accept a copy of a bank statement as documentation.

Keep in mind, disputed charges can't be paid back to resolve the issue. You must formally resolve the dispute with your bank. We understand this impacts your business, however, this must be addressed before you continue using Thumbtack. It can take several weeks to withdraw a dispute, so if you're concerned about losing business on Thumbtack, send us the confirmation letter as soon as possible."

The dispute will continue until I receive my refund and they delete my account as I requested weeks ago,..

Tip for consumers:

Don't use it. They have a 2.3 rating for very good reasons.

Worst move of my life!
February 17, 2021

I am copying my email to Thumbtack Suport which has been ignored as well as the phone conversation. I would recommend that no one ever use this service EVER! Especially ALL TASK SERVICES! Crooks! I have 6 witnesses.

Thumbtack support,

They also just dumped things from my draws into boxes, all mix and no labels so I had to open every box to know where it went. I've moved 17 times and it by far the worst experience I've had. Steven Hendrix

Another Thumbtack Pro recommended using your service. This was to load a two bedroom apartment, I provided all the blankets, wrap (was not used), tape, straps (which they packed and did not use!) and boxes.
This was the location of my apartment and where the truck was located. They were late and they went to lunch for an hour and took 2 days costing me a hotel and charged me $ 950.00! For a 2 bedroom apartment!
Here is a summary of the furniture: Picture not wrapped damaged (This is an original painting) corners were dinged
Handmade Amish Chest not properly wrapped and scratched.
Amish Handmade Dresser scratched not properly wrapped and hardware missing.
200 year old drop leaf table not properly wrapped and scratched. Chairs also scratched.
Stanley Printer stand scratched and missing cord organizer and file support.
Handmade Amish bed, pins broken on bot headboard and footboard out and hardware missing.
His is what the truck looked like fully loaded... They used small orange strapps they had but only wanted to use 2. I sent this to the Pro that set me up with your service to show him how bad it was and he tried to talk to the owner Darren of All Task Services but the owner did not want to listen to him and they got into an argument. You can see that nothing was wrapped and there is left over blankets still in the bag.
You provided/promoted a Non Licensed Mover as represented on your website

I have 6 witnesses and demand resolution. I asked Darren (the owner of ALL TASK SERVICES)<*******@gmail. Com> *******185 to give me a business card and a receipt. He said he did not have a business card but promised to send me a receipt but he never emailed me a receipt!

This guy is a crook and you are promoting him. Is that how you keep a "good" reputation? Also not following up on my call is unacceptable. Tried to call All Task Services to complain about what happened but they did not answer my call so I had to text them and they blocked me! See screen shot:

Tip for consumers:

NEVER!!!!!!!
