I am on a very tight budget and needed a quick small survey. I thought if I liked SM I would come back when I had a budget, and use it for a larger survey. Surprise - even though I tried hard to remain in the free domain, after 40 responses you have no choice but to fork out a very large amount of dough. It's nothing but a money grab. I remember when it used to be pretty cool, and something you would want to contribute to. Now, the fine print is ridiculous and I'll use google docs or something instead from now on. Thanks but no thanks Survey Monkey. Like everything that was good, this company is not about it's customers but lining it's pockets. Waste of time.
Beware of your account with Survey Monkey and make sure you do not have auto renew checked. I discovered this in September and notified Survey Monkey to refund my money or at least a partial refund. They have repeatedly denied my requests and wont let me have access to their president to make a formal complaint. Don't sign up!
I was seeking ways of earning extra cash via focus groups. Many pay decent $$$ for a few hours of your time. SurveyMonkey was recommended, but when I signed up I was unable to find any focus groups. They claimed I could make money by filling out surveys. I'm not sure what happened but I somehow wound up on another similar site SurveyJunkie, I went through over a dozen survey applications answering tons of personal information, spent a few hours, all of them told me after doing so, Sorry but I didn't qualify! WTF? I didn't earn anything, just the initial few points for signing up, not even redeemable. What waste of time and energy, and now I'm on probably some phone and email lists that I can't find support to cancel. I don't know if these sites are related or legit, but they are like data mining on steroids!
Horrible customer service! I work for a small church and we did ONE survey with about 50 responses. There is no option to pay for just one survey. You are required to provide your credit card info and pay for a month with auto renew! I cancelled the day it was supposed to renew but was charged anyway and they REFUSED to refund the $37! Should have done my due diligence prior to using them. I then would have seen many other negative reviews with the same issue. Wow! They make their money by scamming others out of theirs. So I am paying for services I won't use. Never again Survey Monkey!
Site is misleading and then they refuse to give refunds under any circumstance once they've tricked you into signing up for a plan. Navigating the site for customer service is like traveling in a black hole. Product is decent but I wouldn't recommend them. No integrity or customer service, none!
Functionality is fine but pricing is very shady. Here are some examples:
-free account seems like a good fit for you, until you realize they only allow you to survey 10 people (my example I had 50 respondents to a survey for a non-profit)
-they force you to upgrade to see anything past 10 responses per survey
-they try to shove the 1 year pre-paid subscription down your throat at every possibiliy
-upgrade looked like it would cost a reasonable $35 a month for the "monthly plan" but actually it was $39 a month and ONLY if you pay for the entire year in one lump sum. For the true monthly plan it was $99 a month.
-canceling the $99/month subscription is less than straightforward, so i could see it possible to get frustrated looking for how to do it and then ending up paying for many more months than planned
If you just need to do one survey or some basic stuff, look for another survey service with more transparency. I should have just used microsoft or google's survey builders that would have been free.
Description says freemium, says up to 10 questions for basic plan and unlimited responses. After survey is deployed, you have to pay $100 minimum to see the "unlimited responses." Survey Monkey used to be a good honest low cost survey engine, but now it is relying on bait and switch to make money because their software is better than free but not as good as other paid services.
We set up a 1-yr pre-paid premium for a client last week and found out from that client that someone else there had already set up and paid for a premium account. When the error was discovered and we made SurveyMonkey aware of the duplicate accounts mistake, they responded by holding the money and hiding behind their policy on non-refundable fees. I made a follow-up attempt to ask for leniency given our client's mistake and they refused even partial refund.
We manage many sites for various clients and have set them up with Survey Monkey accounts before so we're a reseller. We attempted to help our confused client out and save them a few bucks. Instead, SurveyMonkey insisted on keeping the money and retained the $384 we mistakenly charged with them. On the other hand, they cost the company a good customer and negative publicity we will share with hundreds of agencies, brand clients, vendors and startups we know and work with.
I needed a platform to do a single annual survey, and had seen SurveyMonkey used by others in the past. I checked it out and it looked like what I needed; confirmed that their free plan could have unlimited responses; and that I could report the results in a nice format. GUESS WHAT! You get unlimited responses, but YOU ONLY GET TO SEE THE FIRST 10. You can UPGRADE for $300, or when I complained, they pointed out that I could pay $99 for a month subscription to see my survey results. THERE IS NO FREE PLAN unless you have less than 10 people taking your survey! Don't do it! Find a truly free platform like I will next year.
Take the money and run business model supported by awful customer service. Signed up for a month only for a second payment to be taken. Claimed I had used it in the second month (I notified them 3 days in to second subscription) wouldn't refund. Scam site with little to offer, can't wait to see it's demise of the company and its staff. Low life jobs worth.
Navigation is confusing, it's true. That I could suffer through (it was after all FREE). But after my respondents all replied, I could not access 75% of responses and that was that. I did get a "customer service" email thread going, but in the end I was told that my respondents didn't know what they were doing. Yeah, right.
If you are considering the "free basic" account, walk away now and find another option. This company is deceptive and unethical, so even if you are considering a paid subscription, on those grounds also walk away now.
Survey Monkey has the worst billing and cancellation policies. For paid accounts the billing automatically renews but doesn't give you a warning that it is going to charge you again. Once I realized it charged me I exported my survey data (so as not to lose it), but was informed that I voided any opportunity to get a refund. When I mentioned that I work for a nonprofit, and I'd be ok with a prorated refund I was told that there was no way that it would be possible and I should have read all of the terms and conditions in full. Keep in mind, all of these details were relayed to me in an email because they won't speak with you unless you have a platinum account. While their survey options are great I will not recommend Survey Monkey to anyone. This is a terrible way to conduct business.
I accidentally purchased the wrong plan. I noticed I was double billed on my ccd- 404.00 then 895.00. When I contacted surveymonkey via email they were not engaging or helpful. I thought this was an email exchange issue. Souring their website I found that they had no phone contact or established customer service help desk. They insisted I purchased the plan and I insisted it was an error. I have not used the plan and they still have my 895.00.
Basic plan is crap. So you want to have a test run on the ONLY monthly plan which costs 35$. The rest of the plans are to be paid annually, so naturally we go on the only monthly plan.
Once you start the plan, you find out that it lacks functionality. Even the basic things are available to upgraded plans, except the 35$ one.
When you navigate deep on their website because there's no friendly way of contacting them, they simply reply that they WON'T REFUND YOUR MONEY. Even if the product was used for less than an hour.
They do not have several features that may be considered basic for other tools like having an option for a multiple choice where if a respondent chooses NA for example, all the other options will be inactive. Also, they do not have a multiple choice matrix question type. Fluidsurveys had this since 2009! Additionally, forget about selecting the kiosk mode, their system has very basic settings for this.
Recieved a call from the company & stayed on the line for almost a half an hour. Gave card information & now I just feel very unsafe & regretful. Just don't do it, forget the $100 gift card they say you'll get. The feeling of insecurity is awful
I did not authorize the withdraw of $35 from my bank. I contact them and told them I had nothing to do with the transaction and they said "sorry, we don't offer refunds". Even when I clearly said I didn't make the transaction.
I didn't purchase anything on your stupid site. So I had to get my bank involved so get a refund.
I used it for my masters research project and paid approx £300 to get target audience. As they highly advertise of being quality and all but to my surprise I paid a huge amount for junk and gibberish. The users in reality wrote "nhdjdjd" kind of replies. I contacted customer service more than twice but they maintained that I didnt set the filters right. In short, they charge you for no service provided. I would advise everyone out there NEVER to waste money on survey monkey paid responses. I am sure their own staff sits down and fills them.
Not all features are available when you come on for Free and that is understood. But when you see a feature offered and you need it and it costs you an upgrade, when you do the upgrade you expect to get it. Not so here! So many expensive upgrade options that are hard to figure out what your are getting. The trap is to buy the whole year program for $300 to get some really useful features... such a gimmicky site. Not the best. Can anyone offer an alternative to this?
