First of all, how are they suppose to be the end-all be-all central information source for things typically controversial or hearsay or "conspiracy theory", when the truth is likely that we just don't know the truth in many of these cases. The final straw came the other day when I looked up something knowing that it was inconclusive (but deemed as a big fat FALSE by snopes), and I could no longer ignore how this site is simply incapable of leaving their own personal bias out of these topics. This wasn't the first time I had noticed this. The fact that they throw around the term conspiracy (in any ideas going against the mainstream media) in the grade-school manner that they do, proves that they are not fit to be keepers of the truth. How about call it what it is- it's a personal opinion blog with a little research occasionally thrown in.
Mixing truth with lies just like crafty devils! The truth comes with the things that are unimportant and irrelevant to your lives, manipulating the unaware niave souls that stumble upon their influence into believing that they are a legitimate and trustworthy source and steer those same people the wrong direction when it comes to issues and rumors that matter. That's where they spin their lies like bosses of deception. If you like your b. S. sugar-coated by all means grab a big helping of Snopes.com. Soros money has a big part to play in this snake oil source. "Fact checkers" of fake news are they? Snopes is fake new. They're right there with CNN and the rest. Boycott and rebuke their misinformation campaign. When you hear someone refer to Snopes then shout FAKE NEWS.
I am dismayed to know that Snopes has joined the political bias bandwagon and is not being forthright in it's postings. I can not put any faith in a myth busting company that does not fairly and accurately post findings. Shame on you, Snopes.
They used to be good and investigate. But when now they say that the vaccine ban in europe was false regarding the rotavirus (I was in France, it was literally in every single media outlet: the rotavirus being banned because it was proven to kil toddlers), when they say the dansing israelis is false because "muh racism" when several news outlet reported it and it's an absolute fact, they made themselves not reliable anymore.
I can't believe they didn't fact check these issues. What I believe tho, is that they hide truths when they think the truth could have a negative outcome.
They couldn't care less about the truth, they say what is false is true and what is true is false, if they think it can make things better.
They're not any better than the fake stories they pretend to fight.
Search a controversial fact that you know to be truth and witness for yourself: they are not reliable.
Well after reading several reviews, some 5 star and some 1 star I am not sure they are legit. I used to search them with some of the Facebook post I have seen to see if they are true but now I am concerned about the information they post.
Snopes will tie themselves in knots to support or defend Democratic talking points. Before sighting Snopes, be careful to read their entire entry to be sure you will not be embarrassed by their logic. The site still does ok for non-political "Urban Legend" type topics, but if politics is involved, use with extreme caution.
If you are on Facebook, this site is indispensable. I've lost count of the number of times that I've been able to go to this site to quickly debunk some nonsense being spread around by gullible friends, with just a few clicks and a copy/paste. It's amazing what people will believe, even some folks that I thought were pretty savvy.
I made everyone in my family bookmark this site before contacting me about anything they saw in an email or heard on facebook... I don't try and tell them not to believe everything they hear... I now just send them a snopes link.
Snopes.com is the first place I look when my MIL or aunt forward me multicolored, badly formatted email rants/poems/quotes. They have saved me from looking foolish several times, when I was lucky enough to think of checking Snopes before passing along some sketchy information. The site is well-written, with an old school design, easy to navigate, and they've proved themselves worthy of being the internet's official "stamp of approval" on urban legends and rumors.
Love Snopes! How did we ever debug silly rumours before Snopes. With all the misinformation that circulates on the internet it's nice to know there is a reliable source where you can get the straight up facts.
I honestly can't rate it reliable... I was directed to snopes for the very first time when I was conducting research on the credibility of a certain local enterprise. The info labelled as "fact" by snopes looked like it came directly from the public relations department of the company in question, and the "facts" provided I KNOW FOR A FACT are false. This is based on my personal experience.
So snopes does have a bias towards certain entities. Therefore I have to take the rest of their "facts" at face value.
Excellent in every way and highly recommended.
The Snopes team are very thorough in their research and the site is comprehensive with regard to the range of subjects they cover.
Very useful to check out before passing on plausible sounding emails that are actually hoaxes and scams that are often forwarded by well meaning, but undiscerning friends and colleagues.
This is probably my favorite site. I love posting a link debunking a Facebook friend's repost whenever possible, but on a serious note, this place is extremely informative and I'm a fan of how easy it is to find what you're looking for.
There are plenty of times when Snopes claims something is "False" when its own selected facts do not support Snopes' conclusion. You have to drill down on WHY they claim something is true or false, and not simply accept their conclusions at face value.
I refer to the recent claims of 'false' regarding the comparison between Honduras and Switzerland's homicide rates. Honduras with heavy gun restrictions having 69 TIMES the amount of homicides committed than in Switzerland, is a FACT! What used to be a great source of unbiased information is now on such a slanted bias for liberal propaganda. Zero credibility!
Just went to an article they have in relation to the 27 year old DNC director of data being shot dead (and wikileaks offering 20k for info on the murderers) and i found their article contains the infantile term: "conspiracy theory" SEVEN times and the word 'conspiracy' on its own, a further 3 times... Childish nonsense
To say that this first ever visit to snopes.com diminishes their credibility in my eyes is a gross understatement. Not going to waste my time on that site again.
Horrible source for anything but DNC propaganda, 1 star is overstating its credibility. They started their website 'Snopes' about 13 years ago. After a few years it began gaining popularity as people believed it to be unbiased and neutral. But over the past couple of years people started asking questions when 'Snopes' was proven wrong in a number of their conclusions. There were also criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues, but rather asserting their beliefs in controversial issues
Snopes has gone on the attack against the Babylon Bee. They are a satire site along the lines of the onion. Unfortunately, they have made the fatal mistake of identifying as a Christian satire site. So snopes has determined they are really a 'fake news' site and must be condemned. Snopes is nothing more than a political hack.
With a resource such as this one available, you really have to wonder how so many people can believe so much of the unmitigated BS they receive in their email boxes.
This site lets us sort out the facts from the crap with a couple of clicks of the mouse. I wish ALL of my email correspondents would make a habit of using it BEFORE they send me the fundamentally stupid and totally inaccurate propaganda they use to advance some of their foolish beliefs.
They ae wrong on the Hillary Clinton has Muslim advisor. Huma Abedin is the daughter of parents involved with Muslim brotherhood and she has her name on publication that are easily looked up and show her name as well as known people involved with blind Shiek who has been in jail in US for years for terrorist acts. She may be completely pro- American, but the ties are definitely there and the American people should be aware of this. Snopes ignores this completely. Many times they are good, but their politics gets in the way at times. Especially during election years? Perhaps?
