What is going on with the Handyman Club of America? It has been almost three years since I received a monthly magazine and have gotten no mail from them in the same amount of time! I paid good money to be a Lifetime Member and I have not died as of yet! This was what seems to be a fraudulent taking of my time and of my money!
I am a life member and I would like to know what benefits do I have as a life member?
Do I have access to free wood working plans and what about test products? What is with the test products? Not that I got anything to brag about but do we still get the chance to test out these products?
I too paid for a lifetime membership and as everyone else I haven't received anything from them in years I agree too about a lawsuit for all lifetime members
What happened to the club. I HAVE BEEN A LIFE MEMBER MANY YEARS! RECEIVED A POST CARD WITH PHONE NUMBER AND WEB ADDRESS A FEW YEARS AGO THAT DOESN'T WORK. My life member # is *******. I can be reached at *******@live.com.
Is there a plan to start an online magazine so Lifetime Members and possibly new members can continue to enjoy the magazines? Or are you just taking the money and running? I like many others paid for a Lifetime Membership with the expectation and good faith that our investment would be handled responsibly to provide a Lifetime of reading.
Paid lifetime membership over10 years ago and have not seen or heard anything in years. Why would a company do that and how are they getting away with this. Time to follow up with the attorney general
I've been a life member for 10 years cannot get one issue it's been about five years now made contact with them and they say you should be getting 4 them for a year Well they're off by four not good wouldn't recommend buying membership
Someone asked, why doesn't the Attorney General get involved? My suspicions is that there's so much fraud going on that they just turn a blind eye and grab their paycheck. I was burned by a TV 'Learn my technique and start to earn $$ at home. Well, I was injured T work and thought well I still have bills... But. I came to my senses and that was the end of the line. The problem is they can continue to solicit on tv but we as consumers have no voice to warn others of the trap awaiting them. I did like the books, I'd like to shove the books up their collective asses.
Life member for years I got a letter wanting more money to be a master life member and did not fall for it last thing I have heard or seen. Would love to see a class action suit against them and scout. It was a hardship on me making the payments when I joined but I really enjoyed the magazine.
I joined this club when it first started. Took a life membership. Was promised tool testing where you get to keep the tools you tested. Well there were no tools, only thing I was ever sent to test was two sanding blocks. This club just took your money and never lived up to the promises it made.
Evidently my lifetime is longer than their lifetime. Since I told "the club" to quit sending me tools to purchase that I had not ordered and, if I didn't want them, I could return them, I have not heard from them. I never received a "free" tool to review. I thought something was missing from my mail and didn't realize what it was until I started reading everyone else's complaints. If I could just get my outrageous "lifetime" dues payment back, I would forget them. Short of that, I would like ALL of my past missed issues of the magazine and start receiving it on a regular timely basis.
I like many others have signed up for Handy man club of America as a lifetime member and have yet to receive any tools to review and have not received a magazine for over two years. I believe that the company should be investigated for mail fraud. How can I get hold of the company?
Life member since 6/2011. Havent received anything from them in years. To pay a lifetime membership i am supposed to receive the mag for life. Didnt happen so i would like to get my money back, they broke the agreement.
I am a lifetime member. No magazines, no response, no communication from Handyman or Scout. When I inquired about it, no useful responses. When I ask about a refund, no response at all. Just goes to show we got ripped off, without any advance notice. The people paid good money for this membership to get nothing in return.
Became life member and enjoyed magazines, til they stopped. You guys out there, many are lucky that this was all you lost out on. I got the jacket, wore it out (it finally died, so much for lifetime?) The same fellas that started this club also started National Street Machine Club. There again I took out life membership, though that jacket is not quite dead yet, seems it out lived my lifetime subscription to that also. You would think that they would/could at least have the decency to at least apologize for not being able to live up to their promises.
I was looking for a hat this afternoon to use while replastering my bedroom ceiling. Low and behold, I find my Handyman Club of American life member hat. I realized that I hadn't received a magazine in several years, went on to see if they had gone all-digital and didn't realize it. I found all of these reviews with life membership issues, poked a little further and discovered that the parent company Scout Media went bankrupt in 2016 and was acquired by CBS (only bidder) in 2017. It seems they now exclusively publish online content for high school, college and professional sports. So, as they say, it would seem our lifetime outlived Handy's lifetime. I guess it's ok to get plaster on this hat now!
They discontinued the App and didn't tell me. They expected their customers to figure it out. When I called to cancel they said they charged my monthly fee the day before the month started and wouldn't reimburse me. I asked to talk to a supervisor and I was told the supervisor is busy and will call me back. I'm still waiting for the call. The site content was okay, but NOT worth any money. You can get free content that is similar.
I had a lifetime membership in 2014
I was told i was going to lose my membership.
Had to buy another membership to keep the magazine coming.
Stay away or get ripped off!
My name is Jose A. Lugo My lifetime membership no. Is ******* I joined back in April of 2003. My lifetime membership was paid in full in good faith. I lived back in Tampa, FL. I now live at 289 Magical Way Kissimmee, FL. ******* my telephone no. Is *******923 are you going to honor my life time membership which I paid in full in good faith?
They got the 5 stars for when they were in business. I was a life member of Handyman Club from the very begining, very disapointed they have gone under, it was a great idea. I got several tools free for joining, and rated several things I got free as well, so I guess I got my money back, but I still miss the magazine, they saved me a lot of money by showing how to do it myself. When you think of it they didn't say who's lifetime... Nothing last forever I guess, darn it.
Answer: I too had the the same problem. Found out about a month ago the they changed the name and are not honoring any of the old handyman club memberships sorry
Answer: They closed shop. They embezzled our money.
Answer: Don't feel bad. I (and a lot like me) paid "lifetime" membership dues, and got screwed. Since Handyman aligned with "Scout"... its been downhill all the way. No honoring "Lifetime" benefits. I wish there were a class action lawsuit against them.
Scout has a rating of 1.5 stars from 80 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Scout most frequently mention lifetime member, handyman club and class action. Scout ranks 744th among Sports sites.
