Probably my number one recommendation for anyone looking for a new pet. There are so many pets in need of a home and people should at least look here first before they go to their local breeder or pet store.

There was a beautiful bird up for adoption but had been lost, injured, didn't have much affection for people. But, I'm good with birds and extremely patient and I really wanted to give this little guy a good life. I applied twice. Weeks went by. No response either time. No emails, no nothing. Got my hopes up and was crushed. They expect you to fill out an elaborate app and go through a background check more stringent than working with people (I know, I'm a social worker) and then they either disqualify you or never respond. I think it's all a fake site to steal your personal info. Avoid this and just check the local animal shelters, like the Humane Society. Total waste of time, heartache and potential scam.

I have inquired about dogs on this sight several times and never heard back from anyone other than somebody in Texas. It's a bit confusing to understand where these dogs actually are being fostered. I want to meet a dog before I adopt. I did get wise finally and just looked on the drop-down list of rescue organizations and shelters in my area and started looking there, but even then I still have gotten very few responses. These rescue animals need loving homes, so I don't understand the lack of responses. I would not recommend just browsing on Petfinder, if anything find your local rescue groups and go that route.

Misleading
February 23, 2017

What is the point of asking for a city, zip code, and maximum distance from home to search when all of their animals are 'being fostered' in Texas or China? Many ads even state that animals will not be shipped to your state until 'pre-adopted'. Who adopts a dog without even getting to be in the same state with it first? ($695 transport fee) It's a sadly impersonal and disingenuous way to import dogs from Taiwan, based on nothing more than a photo.

I recently adopted two kittens from tiny kitty cat rescue on pet finder and it was an easy process, affordable and they are willing to work with you, so many lovely kittens it was hard to chose but I've found the perfect match and they are the cutest kittens so easy to contact through phone! Thank you for my furry babies

Petfinder is an average website. Highly frustrating that it cannot seem to handle the internet traffic load and resetting your connection and losing your preferences time and time again. Would be valuable to be able to include "not" words, as Collie -border which would speed searching. Very frustrating and odd not being able to search for a common breed, a Rough Coated Collie as it isn't on their list of dogs.

I have put in two inquiries about adopting a pet. First I filled out inquiries then I was sent the application.
I have emailed since then but I have not received one response. I even emailed one of the shelters asking about a special needs, senior pomeranian. I have yet to hear from shelter. After reading these reviews, I feel this is either a scam or this business is just shotty.
I hope and pray the pets listed are being taken care of.
It's very upsetting to get your hopes up and spend time filling out applications then to hear nothing.

Daily emails with the same thing over and over. Any dog you have interest in will not be available. A phone call checking on availability of the animal described may produce a yes; but what they drag out bears no resemblance.

Useless
April 9, 2019

Spent over 3 months tying to adopt a dog, no follow up on your application, no humans to speak to just automated e-mail. All they are doing is slowing down the Process, and pissing people off, causing more dogs to be killed, in the name of helping animals, idiots! Won't get my money! $#*!s!

Spent 5 hours looking for a dog that would suit us... young, child friendly etc... read the details and history of so many dogs.
Found a little guy who sounded perfect and sent an email with initial questions.
Never heard back.
No wonder so many pets are in need of adoption... admin narrative process is total $#*!e.
Guess we will go to a breeder. So much for trying to save a poor pup from having no home or family... you guys are awful.

Horriable experience
March 18, 2019

Instead of adopting through a private group I thought I would do the right thing and try adopting a shelter animal. The worst experience ever. After months of nothing but frustration, the only contact being an occasional email asking, "did you adopt Eyore yet"? Are you serious? Then seeing this poor guys face still up on their website asking for donations. What is really going on? That's my question.

Petfinder Bullying
February 24, 2015

Our experience with Petfinder has been awful. They won't respond in a timely manner. The decided the rescue prices were too high though they were in line with the area so stopped replying at all and would not give approval. Yet they allow breed specific rescues to charge $400 for adoptions.

I think Petfinder is using their position to bully new rescues. If you require a certain pricing then you need to make that information available. Rescues are folding all the time because they try to keep prices low but find out that the costs of vetting and maintaining animals can cause issues with sustainability.

I have found Petfinder representatives to be unprofessional, and hoping that some of the other pet search websites mange to take over the market. This has caused a great hardship for our start up rescue and all because we ended up with one representative that decided to dictate to us.

I think I've put in close to 25 inquiries and applications since January 1st. I've had 5 responses. 2 telling me they don't adopt out of state and 3 telling me the dog has been adopted. Most of these listing are not kept current and you end up spinning your wheels for a dog that is not available. Also, there are no rules that listers must follow in regards to responding. Disappointing and frustrating web site. Will look elsewhere and so should you.

My hubby and I are active retirees (75 and 80). We have our own home with a large fenced yard and are outside working in the yard or taking walks every day. We've always had a dog but when our last dog died at 14 yrs. We decided it would be best to hold off on getting another one until we had taken some of those international trips we were planning. Now, we are ready to bring another dog into our home and have been applying for adult/senior dogs for the past couple months. Most times, we never even get a reply. Yesterday, I was asked if our adult children would would be willing to co-sign. I understand that your first responsibility is to find the right home for the dog but I'm really starting to feel that seniors are being overlooked simply because of a number. There will always be reasons why people can't keep a dog but I would venture a guess that more dogs are returned from young, dynamic families than from stable senior citizens.

Unacceptable
September 20, 2019

Tried to contact Petfinder a month ago on adopting two cats. Sent several emails over this time. Only got a auto reply saying someone would contact me that week. No one responded. I looked further to try to find out where they were at. I emailed that company. Couple weeks passed and come to find out, they said that they are not getting emails from Petfinder on adoption requests, only spam. This is a very poor site. Don't be surprised if you go through same run around. It's awful, that the poor pets could be in their new homes if this site was doing it's job.

Petfinder is a wonderful data base if you are looking to adopt however be very careful about some of the organization that post on petfinder. I had a horrible Experience with the organization animal rescue force which is located in New Jersey. I spoke with a women name Susan who was NOT upfront and honest and became defensive when called on a policy that she made up. It was very sad to witness this because I really wanted to support the organization and also be able to bring home a forever pet that would be apart of my family and be loved and well taken care of! My advise to anyone who is on petfinder make sure you look into the organization and what they stand for before you even fill out an application or send an email of interest!

To hard to adopt
October 31, 2019

Been trying to adopt a small female since April 2019. Filled out numerous applications, all but one was approved because I misplaced my vet bill from this year. I did however send pics of rabies tags and heart worm meds. I even spent $5000. 00 to have my yard fenced in. My husband and I are retired, we dont like to take vacations. My pets (3) sleep on my bed, all up to date on shots and exams.
These rescues are worthless and the applications are tedious.
My worst experience was with Rosie's rescue in Ravenna ohio.
I give up!

Find the process takes so long, have not heard back for the Ferry Dog Mothers in a bit. I think this discourages people from adopting dogs through these foster homes. Started Sept 29 and still do not know if I get the dog. Or even had a home visit set up.

A young lady named Tonya Conrad is the worst. She is located in Michigan. We drive 2 hours to her house she had 2,2 week old black labs see picture below to pick from. My guy friend gave her a $400 deposit. The day we were picking up pup at 8 weeks. She texts and says she sold dog to some one else. After a few more texts she says dog was sick and died. She took our $400 and ran. Did not return our money. She is a school teacher poor example of a person. Please be careful using this site. Go to a reputable breeder. Do not buy from Tonya Conrad.

Done with Petfinder
February 2, 2022

In September I lost my Shih Tzu and desperately want another one. Put in applications for at least 7 dogs. Got glowing reviews from my vet and references too. Always the same response, dog was adopted. Starting to think this site is a scam. Even thought of age discrimination, as my mom would be home during the week with the dog, but after reading reviews, I think its Petfinder. Guess I'll try to save my money and BUY the dog I want, I'm done with these shelters.
