I went to Kaiser because my wife's employee switched healthcare plans. I saw Dr. Hensel but he made no attempt to determine why I was there and what my medical problems were. He asked me two questions, one being "Am i depressed?" to which I suggested that for someone who just had two heart attacks and a stroke, lost their health, job, and income-I'm doing ok. The Dt. Walked out, saying he needed to make a phone call. He did not discuss suicidality. He told the manager to call the cops as he thought I was a danger to myself. I never heard from him again. Dr. Hensel had NO TRAINING in placing a hold on someone who needs special care and support. Kaiser offers the training for a 5150 to all their staff, they just never bothered taking it.
I waited 45 minutes for the Doctor to return. The 5 officers did not identify themselves and attacked me, tackling me to the floor, giving me a severe concussion, and putting their knees in the middle of my back, crushing my spine. My shoulder ligaments are also still damaged after 5 years. I have had extensive surgery on my spine. Prior to the assault I did not have chronic diarrhea. Incontinence. Or erectile dysfunction. A CT myelogram revealed that I had severe compression of my spinal cord at T11 T12 and that the cord was whitening as a precursor to chord death. Of course the Police Department offers 5150 training to all officers. They just didn't take it. Police with NO TRANING in 5150 as well.
I had surgery as soon as I could and have experienced maybe a 5% recovery from my previous symptoms. I've had major spinal reconstruction surgery with instrumentation and fusion. I am 5 years out from surgery and still in constant pain. I was released shortly after being taken to Santa Cruz County Jail. A real 5150 requires a 72-hour hold in a Psychiatric facility. I was out of jail in 5 hours.

Kaiser used to be considered the gold standard in health care. Not anymore! You might be fooled if you are young and in great health, however, you best believe that if you ever experience a traumatic health event, you will very soon discover that you will receive the worst care imaginable when you need care the most. I was born at Kaiser and I am now 53 years old. My mother retired from Department of Justice after 58 years and for more than half a century she had paid for Kaiser's top of the line product.( Let's be honest, what they really are is corporation focused on profit rather than a health care facility with great doctors upholding the Hippocratic Oath). I am sure she anticipated after half a century of dishing out a ton of money for this gold standard health care with minimal use she would receive qualified, informed, compassionate care or at least adequate care when she needed it most. Sadly, that is not the case. Every decision they make has nothing to do with a patient's well being. It only has to do with profit and covering their behinds. They force their doctors to adhere to blanket policies with no consideration of a patient's actual conditions and needs let alone their well-being. They intentionally reduce a person's quality of life and provide as little care as they can get away with. They misdiagnose, ignore patient messages which if they had answered just may have saved their lives. Miss symptoms and tests clearly indicating an upcoming adverse health event that could have been prevented. Then when they have almost done you in, they get a sick, perverse pleasure out of making you suffer and providing no compassionate relief. They don't care about you. They don't aspire to help you or improve your health and life. They don't care if you live or die. Never leave your loved ones alone in a Kaiser hospital and be prepared to fight every day for even the smallest of their needs. You will have to advocate very hard for your loved one if you wish your loved one to survive their Kaiser experience. Never let your guard down and never accept what their doctors say as an "informed and educated opinion of a professional with expertise". They have a huge shortage of doctors and most of them they do hire have less knowledge of the human body and medicine than you do. They are arrogant, apathetic, monsters who are spineless puppets for the corporate master they serve. Every day, you will have to fight. They will gladly place enormous amount of responsibility and demands upon you that they were unwilling to place upon themselves. In the end, you will be the one providing all the care for your loved ones and if that were not enough, they will hinder you every step of the way. Even when they reduce their role to merely providing you with the tools for you to suddenly become the doctor, nurse, cna, etc. and provide round the clock care, you will have to fight for every single necessity your loved one requires to survive as they slowly attempt to take every needed tool away. Every refill of any prescription will be a fight. Every time you need their feeding supplies, every time they juggle your loved one around to different unqualified doctors with no experience who candidly state your loved one has medically complex conditions out of their realm and they don't feel qualified to provide their care. God forbid your loved one has conditions severe enough to require pain medication. That is endless Loop of lies, deception, excuses, game playing and treating an elderly person in quite serious condition who has never touched a drug or alcohol or even a can of soda in their life like they are a drug addict when they are bedridden, nonverbal, tubefed and missing half of their brain rendering them not even cognizant enough to drug seek, unable to administer their own medication making it impossible for them to abuse or take more than prescribed, but crying and moaning in pain 24/7. They actually recommended trying diet and exercise to manage pain. She is paralyzed, bedridden and can take nothing by mouth being tube fed formula. It doesn't take a genius to realize that recommendation is not going to work for this particular patient. They said she could try meditation. She can't even follow commands let alone sit through their online meditation coarse and follow directions. They have reduced what little quality of life she had left to zero. When she first was discharged, she was improving. Physical and occupational therapy had to sign off because they said her pain wasn't being managed well enough to be able to work with her. She went from smiling, enjoying her grandbabies, responding to music, taking thickened liquids by mouth, sitting up in a wheelchair, starting to touch pictures to express her needs or answer yes or no, to laying in a bed in agony all day and barely being able to tolerate being touched. We don't know how much longer we have her and they have ensured her remaining time is spent in a sadistic, torturous hell of their creation. Right now, my focus is on our mother and they are known to retaliate against patients for people speaking out or taking action against them. However, I will continue to fight and advocate for her every day and when her time on this earth is done, I will be relentless and unyielding in pursuit of Justice for our dear mother. She deserves much better than this! Heck, she spent her life in service to others and she has earned much better than this! She paid for much better than this! I will never forgive Kaiser for how they have treated her and they will answer for everything they have done! I will expose them and I will bring the receipts. They have no conscience and their souls are black as night. This is how they treat people who purchase their top of line product for 60+ years advertising "quality care" and "compassionate care" and "Thriving" which there is not even a hint of in their care. If your loved ones have Kaiser, I recommend taking a notebook and pen everywhere you go and document everything. Record and document every interaction you have wether it be with a doctor, pharmacist, administrator or call center personnel. A patient advocate is not going to help your loved one. They are just another Kaiser paid employee. Go to the top. Don't waste time filing complaints with member services that disappear into thin air never to be addressed. Don't be fooled that you finally are speaking to a compassionate soul who wants to help. Even if they truly were the soul you thought, the person they must pass it along to will quickly squash it and make it disappear. They have this odd forced arbitration/mediation process, however, while many think that renders them helpless against Kaiser, it does not as many good attorneys will inform you. It does not mean they are untouchable or that they cannot be brought to court. Remember, to them your loved one is just one patient in an endless stream of patients that they evaluate and treat based on what is most lucrative to them, but to you your love one is the person you love and cherish most in this world. Educate yourselves on their condition, their rights and how to navigate the health care system. It is you that will act in their best interest and fight for them. It is just a shame that you will have to fight an institution that is supposed to care for, heal, improve and help human beings rather than harm them.
I used to think it was kind of neat and convenient that Kaiser was a "one-stop-shop" where you could everything done. Now, I think it is something that should be well investigated and prohibited. Your provider and your insurance company being one in the same is inherently an enormous conflict of interest that should not be allowed and should not be legal.
Health Care
Took my wife to the emergency room after the dentist injured her got taken to an amatory emergency, and a physicians assistant handed us prescriptions and that was it. Had her doctor refer her to an ear nose and throat specialist over the injury and they said.Had her doctor refer her to a ear nose and throat specialist over the injury, and they said to see an oral surgeon without seeing her went to oral surgeon oral surgeon said to see a neurologist that it's a medical issue. Ended up with a video appointment for a physicians assistant at neurology no diagnosis no nothing just again a prescription and that's it and I pay for this crap I should get my money back I got billed $50 for the emergency room never even got saw an emergency room 2 1/2 months after my wife was injured and she still has yet to see a damn doctor Because Kaiser apparently doesn't have doctors or they hurt dentist and I don't know they said oh my God we don't have to deal with that we're not talking about a damn tooth time at the paralysis in her face. We're talking about the nerve damage we're talking about the hole where the bone was eaten away by the stuff he injected her with when he went through the end of the soft tissue they don't understand a medical issue, I'll be here is destiny she's apartment what the hell is going on with Kaiser are there doctors there anymore where is the whole place run by janitors and physician assistance on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate of 02 months and were still yet to see a doctor every since Covid Kaiser has been garbage it's like they quit during Covid. They were solely lacking during Covid and they haven't gotten any better. I really seven kids with Kaiser never had issues but lately ever since Covid Kaiser has been garbage, not worth the money I pay that's for sure I don't understand why I pay so much and I get so little I mean it should be half price if they're not even actual physicians if I am seems assistance and they don't even have any information for you no diagnosis no nothing very follow through with you I don't think they should be allowed to have physician assistance because they hide behind them I can't even find out who the supervising doctor is and then Billy $50 for emergency room visit when they shipped me off to amatory emergency. My wife's face was twice this swollen like I was gonna pop two months and Kaiser dropped the ball. Every chance they've been given, think it's time to sue and change organizations go with Blue Shield or something
I have been a member of Kaiser Permanente since the early 1990s, and while I remember experiencing excellent customer service back then, it is disheartening to see how it has deteriorated into a bureaucratic system that lacks concern for people's already hectic lives. My recent encounter with Kaiser Permanente's customer service left me frustrated and disappointed.
One of the conveniences I used to appreciate was the ability to set up appointments with just a phone call. However, with the introduction of their application, things took a turn for the worse. The application itself has a glaring issue - when inputting my birthdate, I have to scroll back one day at a time until I reach my date of birth in the early 1960s. This cumbersome process has added unnecessary frustration to an already stressful task.
Due to this frustration, I decided to call Kaiser Permanente to make an appointment for my troublesome hand. I spoke to a representative named "Bunmet," who asked me a series of unnecessary questions, including whether I, a man, was pregnant. Despite these odd questions, the real disappointment came when she informed me that there were no available appointments. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and questioned how this could be possible.
"Bunmet" explained that their system only allowed her to search for appointments one week ahead. In this day and age, where computers can accomplish so much, it is absurd that Kaiser Permanente's system is so limited. Frustrated by the lack of options, "Bunmet" offered to send a message for someone to call me and arrange an appointment. It's worth noting that this was the second time I had attempted to schedule an appointment for my hand, with the previous attempt resulting in an unfulfilled promise of a call back six weeks ago.
I conveyed my frustration to "Bunmet" regarding the lack of follow-through, but all she could offer was an apology. This interaction left me with no resolution and a growing sense of dissatisfaction. If you are considering Kaiser Permanente as your healthcare provider, I strongly urge you to explore other options. Based on my personal experiences, Kaiser Permanente is no longer the reliable and customer-focused institution it once was.
This instance is not the only issue I have encountered with Kaiser Permanente's hospitals. In fact, there have been too many disappointments to count. As a long-time member, it is disheartening to witness the decline in quality and care. I hope that Kaiser Permanente can address these shortcomings and prioritize improving their customer service to regain the trust and satisfaction of their members.
In conclusion, my recent encounter with Kaiser Permanente's hospitals showcased their horrendous customer service, marked by inefficient systems, unfulfilled promises, and a lack of concern for patients' needs. If you value prompt and attentive healthcare services, I would strongly advise seeking alternatives to Kaiser Permanente.
I had been paying the low monthly rate for Kaiser health insurance, thinking.great, I finally have health coverage! So I made an appointment to get acquainted and give them my history and current prescriptions, which was an inhaler. Which is the focus here today. As I'm in the check in line I started getting tightness in my chest and wheezing but just hoped a couple good coughs would clear myself up. In the 10 minutes it took to check in and get in the room to meet the doctor I was in the middle of a full on asthma attack. I'd never had one so I asked the nurse (if u can even call her that, (she either enjoys watching others suffer or got her nurse license out of a cracker jack box), but I asked for an inhaler or a nebulizer treatment and she said they didn't have one, this was just the clinic, but I could go back down stairs to the hospital but all they would do is take me to the "real hospital". She watched me struggle to breathe while sitting and told me I could go back down stairs! Thank God I had my boyfriend drive me bc by the time I realized I wasn't getting better nor getting help I called him to pull up to the door bc I had to sit down and gasp for a little air 3 times on my way down stairs. People just walked by me, the nurse knew I was having trouble breathing n sent me off and I'm in the middle of a health clinic with an in house pharmacy and "hospital"! That was my initial appointment for paid healthcare. In a total of 15 minutes I went from walking in to walking out and having my first asthma attack, I told bf to get to the house fast. I thought using my nebulizer was all I needed and 15 minutes or so later I was almost unconscious from no air and couldn't get any nebulizer treatment in bc I couldn't breathe, I had urinated all over myself and screamed 911 to my boyfriend bc I surely thought I was dead. I crawled to the toilet with the nebulizer mask on and sat on toilet in case I continued to pee and I still don't know what happened but I started being able to get in air, not a lot but just enough and the ambulance was there and I felt terrible bc now I was able to breathe but decided to go to hospital. On the way my heart rate was up n down and I was having another attack. The paramedic was asking if I had AFib or heart problems and then told the driver to hit the lights and sirens bc I was in trouble. I'm 37 yrs old and thought it was over for me. The rest is a bit personal but I needed ambulance immediately at the start of the attack and Kaiser employees and the nurse FAILED ME. Someone shopping in Walmart could have seen I needed help, this facility is entirely too negligent and could have used some training in MEDICAL EMERGENCIES! If I could give negative 5 stars, I would.

Make sure your famy members are involved in your care
Most recent complaint: 2 months to get an appt with neurosurgeon. Found electric stimulus item that gives temporary relief. Cancelled that appointment. Kaiser mailed notice to me that they had unsuccessfully tried to contact me to give me chance at an earlier appointment. Now I get 'callback' message at ANY of their phone numbers. Kaiser claims to have returned phone calls. I am retired. I have cellphone and landline. Kaiser messages were not left on either phone.
From 2 years ago: Dr's notes referred to abusive, alcoholic husband Fred as my 'problem'. Husband died 12 years ago. Husband was not a drunk, was not abusive, and was not named "Fred".
I begged for MRI for back pain. Dr. Said he disagreed; did not feel an MRI was necessary.
I overdosed on Bayer Aspirin. I was hospitalized for 6 days. OT asked why overdose happened. I explained back pain. She had hospital Dr. order MRI. Results showed spinal stenosis & cysts. This Kaiser Dr, retired shortly after my hospital stay. Never saw that Dr. during my stay in the hospital.
Kaiser insists on payment plan - credit card on file. I suggested Kaiser set up Paypal. I allow as little of my financial information as possible anywhere online. I have Medicare Advantage through Kaiser. Never got clear picture of 'benefits' I am supposed to receive for $53@ mo. Out of pocket I pay in addition to my Medicare coverage. I requested hard copy via U.S. mail. Every month Kaiser wastes 8 pages of paper to provide information that could be reduced to one page. Kaiser online bill information page today won't allow me past the page that insists I 'Accept' electronic/online bill information. Clicking 'Decline' is not acceptable. I can't get to page to email Kaiser Member Services about any of this. And, of course, speaking to a living human being on a weekend would be out of the question. Monday through Friday likewise, chances are slim & none.
I am looking into other providers. I am extremely dissatisfied. My physician I was assigned to two years ago recently left Kaiser to work for a different provider. I am currently without an assigned physician. Kaiser continues to run ads that say exactly the opposite of what things are like now.
Kaiser needs to clean up their mess before they advertise for new patients.
The number of job openings at Kaiser Permanente sends a very clear message to me.
This is my real experience, I am still under observation in a non-KP hospital.
At the end of 2018, I was warned by my KP-PCP that I was pre-diabetes.
During entire 2019, I did not bother to test or any follow up, my fault. My PCP was quiet too.
Then COVID-19 came in 2020, we kept ourselves home except necessary grocery shopping. Those days were boring and my life schedule changed a lot. Totally my fault.
20 days ago, I had a heart attack and called 911 and was sent to a non-KP heart center to install a stent. After 36 hours I was discharged. Any mistakes here? I am not sure but I got a feeling the heart center would have pondered my insurance to the risks I was carrying with my heart. During hospitalization, I was diagnosed diabetes and COVID-19 positive!
I was home, did a slight walk every day, ate on diet on time, took all prescribed medicines. And at the mean time, I reached KP for help, that is normal right? Believe me, KP is so hard to access. It is a combination of insurance and hospital. If it has too much medical costs, it'd be a lost of profit deducted from their premium income.
I told them I had COVID-19 positive but I need to see, even thru something like Zoom, my PCP, a specialist on diabetes, and a cardiologist. I did this thru mobile app which was good. My PCP would not answer. Perhaps she was struggling that my case was too big lost on KP's money side. Fortunately the heat center only kept him for 36 hours! Smart!
I did messaging but not calling because I tried many times but no luck. Who would keep your phone on for 6 hours and got a cut off finally? I am definitely that type. My PCP's nurse answered back 5 days later, "hey, calling us is more efficient, message will take 24-48 hours to get read". The point is, how do I know you read it or not? How can I arrange appointments to follow up all my surprises?
COVID-19 gave KP a super reason to refuse its insurance premium payer. I was exhausted to make an appointment with a diabetes nurse I especially told the caller (in a callback) I was COVID-19 positive. Still she arranged a on-site one. When I was at the door, all KP staff stood up, stared from a distance, I just could get in. I understood it, the nurse passed a word she will call me. She did not at that day but did it the next day same time. It was acceptable but honestly useless.
I also met remotely with my cardiologist but he did not make any changes to my prescription and would like to have an on-site appointment to get more information from me and the heart center. Sounds promising.
A week ago, I called 911 again due to a minute seizure and losing conscious. A different hospital still non-KP. I had a stomach bleeding because the medicines I was taking had a strong side-effect to bleed and today I am still in the hospital. Doctors here found I was also over-dosed for lowering my blood pressure and I had an incident of low pressure when I am in hospital. Oh lucky me. By the way, I told my family to take COVID-19 test a week later when I was tested, they are all negative! So I am the only positive even I kissed my kids everyday before I know the result. I asked a retest. The specimen was lost. Knew this after 2 days and was taken double specimen from both side of my nose and knew the result after 3 days, negative!
I consulted cardiologist here, after I am discharged I have to follow up with KP. But those days I tried and tried and KP was not responding. They may be discussing how to get rid of me as such a burden in which the premium is poorly not a match than the costs they foresee in the future? So they want to keep quiet until I make a decision to leave. I will, but this year they only played half game. I will improve their professionalism during the 2nd half! Becomes my job now!
