HealthyWage has a rating of 4.1 stars from 135 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with HealthyWage most frequently mention weight loss, extra motivation and time frame. HealthyWage ranks 8th among Weight Loss sites.
Recently, due to the global pandemic which includes gym closures, loss of wages, etc, I have been trying to cancel my $100/month bet, with 5 months left to go. In these uncertain times, I'm not even sure what 5 months would look like from now, and it leaves me frustrated and with bad taste.
I was going to cancel and then come back when the pandemic blows over (because it was a really great idea that motivated me to lose!) but with the disappointing way Healthywage has handled this, I don't think I would ever come back.
From the start of COVID-19, I expected to receive an email from them, like literally every single company (Jimmy Johns, anyone?) stating a clause that would help users during the financial hardships. 22 MILLION Americans have since been unemployed from the virus, which is not at all an insignificant amount of the US population. HealthyWage's narrow mindset and unwillingness to help out its userbase will only alienate its prospective participants.
I am so very disappointed in HealthyWage, a program that I was VERY excited to be a part of. They have shown that their bottom line is... well, their bottom line, with no humanity, especially during these trying times.
When I found out I have a medical issue and then I had a gym closure, I tried to reason with this company. I asked for them to simply cancel my challenge. I told them I was upset that I had to ask for this especially in light of all that is occurring in the world but I hoped that because of my issue, they would help me out. I stated to them that I would sign up for a new challenge once life is back in the swing. First, they responded without even reading my first email. My second email went unanswered. My third email when I was now upset and said I no longer wanted to work with a company such as this that claim they are a "healthy" wage site but their CSRs know nothing about the science behind medical conditions and weight loss and fluff you off like you are not to be considered. They again said they would push my challenge back. I reported to the BBB. All I get is that they CLAIM they have worked extensively with me (no) and that they have an offer on the table (not one that I accept, obviously, because I am now moving toward mediation) and that's all they say to the BBB. And, had they at least RESPONDED to my personal concern about my personal situation, I would consider and offer but even after reporting to BBB NEVER ONCE A SORRY for misunderstanding, or taking my situation lightly. NOTHING. Just that they are great and they have worked extensively with me to help me. Lies.
Hi El,
The reason we do not allow cancelations is because it’s a crucial aspect of the service we provide with helping you stay accountable and committed to achieving your goal, which would diminish the point of the program if you could simply quit. We’ve had many participants tell us they’re happy HealthyWage isn’t automatically postponing nor canceling their challenges because they’re looking forward to achieving their weight loss goal and winning their cash prize. For participants who need to make a change with their challenge, our support team does respond to every email and works diligently in addressing and helping each participant who reaches out to us. We see that you’ve been in contact with our support team and that both your tickets were reviewed and replied to, which included several options regarding your challenge. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact our support team at info@healthywage.com.
The way this company works is you first make your big HealthyWager challenge. This is the goal you create by agreeing to losing a certain amount of weight in a certain time frame. This is the challenge you pay monthly installments on and end up getting a nice payoff from if you complete it.
I originally left a 2/5 review. This was due to the mini challenges, which are (team or individual) challenges that you can enter along the way in addition to your big HealthyWage challenge. The reason they didn't work is because the majority of the time, everyone in the challenge would hit their goal and so there would be no payoff. In this case, you just get the money back that you put into it. That's fine and dandy except Most of them didn't pay off and the ones that did were maybe $1-4. So essentially you gave them money, didn't earn even interest on it, and they send it back to you months later. The crazy part though, is to get your money back you have to pay $7 for them to send you a check or you can pay $2+3% for a PayPal deposit. Either way, if enough people win the mini challenge, then you don't even get back the full money that you put in.
They waive the $7 check fee once every 6 months (As long as the check is below like $850), so if you partake in only one mini challenge, you could get your buy-in returned to you for no cost. But I joined and won 10 mini challenges, meaning they would waive the check fee for the first one but anything after that I'd have to pay for. I stand by my original review that this policy is totally lousy.
The reason for the revised review however, is due to the fact that I won my BIG healthy wager challenge. So at the end of the day, they did what they were supposed to do. They created a way to motivate me to to lose 40 pounds, plus I made a great return on my installments. I paid $180/month for 6months. I am now getting my winning check for $2200. That's a good enough feeling (plus being skinny) for me to give them a solid 4/5 stars.
Takeaway: Go big or go home. Don't bother with the mini challenges. If you think you can make a big goal and stick with it, then you'll get a big payoff.
Hi Madison and congratulations on winning your Jackpot challenge! Yes, our Jackpot challenges have smaller payouts then our individual HealthyWager challenge (and the jackpot has a 25% admin fee — the same as our competitors — which the HealthyWager DOES NOT). If you want a bigger prize and no admin fee, I suggest you try the HealthyWager, which pays up to $10,000. The only catch is that the HealthyWager requires that you set a goal of at least 10% of your body weight. Regarding the $7 check fee: if your payout is lower than $75, you are not charged the $7 check fee (this stated when you go to cash out your winnings). You can also choose Paypal and avoid the check fee. Regarding your tax question, we will send you a 1099 if your total winnings are $600 or greater (minus wager) in a year.
Bottom line: if you have at least 10% of your body weight to lose and looking for a higher payout with no admin fee, we highly recommend our HealthyWager challenge. It’s an individual weight loss challenge where you select your weight loss goal, how long you want to lose it in, and cash prize (up to $10,000). I initially wrote that they don't care about their users and genuinely believed it until I heard from Amanda Stewart. Due to loss of income with the COVID-19 pandemic, I was attempting to get out of a bet where I paid $100 a month (with 4 months to go). Obviously, there is a lot of fear surrounding the uncertainty of these times. I worried about how I would care for my family, pay rent, bills, etc.
When Amanda reached out to me, I felt like she was taking the time to consider my individual position. I really appreciate the time that she took to work with me on finding a solution. I hope that other users are able to find in her, what I didn't find in Joe (Healthy Wage Participant Support).
I've been attempting to cancel my bet of $100 a month due to loss of income with regards to COVID-19. I had every intention to restart it and I'm committed to my goal of living a healthy lifestyle. It's really disappointing to feel like they don't actually care about the circumstances of their users during this pandemic.
When you don't have income coming in, $100 is a lot of money on the line. I made the bet because I believed in their idea and thought it was a great company but I can't recommend it since they aren't considerate of their users who are in unfortunate circumstances.
I just submitted my final weigh out video! I am so glad I did this program! I have been staying on track and super focused because I really didn't want to lose my money and winning extra money was just an added bonus for me. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs the extra push!
Thank you for sharing your experience, Chelsea! We're happy to hear it was a motivating and successful experience!
This program helps give you the motivation towards your weight loss goal! I have only been at it for a couple of weeks for the Healthy Wage Challenge. I have signed up for 2 individual challenges so far to reduce my weight by 6% over the next 3 months. You can increase your winning by signing up for 3 month personal challenges, you should lose weight faster in the beginning when eating healthy and exercising several times a week, a win-win! If you sign up via the link below $40 will be added to your winnings.

Before downloading this app I did some research into it. I looked up to see if it was legitimate and read the BBB complaints. I've decided that I might give it a shot, since doubling or even tripling my money is one heck of a motivator. I just have to decide what dollar amount I want to wager.
Look, if you sign up and find out you can't/won't lose weight FOR ANY REASON you will NOT get a refund. Using a medical excuse will not work. However, it seems this company WILL WORK WITH YOU. As I read some of the complaints as well as the responses from the company, I couldn't help getting a little aggravated by the way some customers treated customer service.
Advice to company. Put the no refund policy on the very first line in hugh black, bold lettering. Maybe even a hugh neon sing that flashes no refund.
REMEMBER, ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT.
Dosen't anyone read contracts before they sign them anymore?
What a scam. You don't win crap other than your own money back. You can win up to $10,000!... as long as you bet $9,800 on yourself. In other words, if you want to sign up for a forced savings plan where the likelihood of losing all your money is high, and if you do happen to win, you get taxed to the point that the actual portion that you do win is completely nullified, then go ahead and go for it! You can do it! The last 20 years of not being able to lose weight is completely going to change, if they pay you $200 to do it! Ha!
Totally false advertising when the total prize money that they quote includes returning your own monthly contribution. If they presented it honestly it would only show the amount that you actually win, over your personal monthly contributions, but then no one would buy into the scam.
HealthyWage paid over $13 million in prizes to over 30,000 people in 2019 alone. We are not a scam. Wager terms are determined by the participant before registering and ROI can range anywhere from 11% to 300% based on a number of personal factors. The heavier you are, the larger your prize. We encourage you to play with the calculator as many times as you'd like to find the right combination for you. We do not tax winnings and only issue a 1099 when required by the IRS, as all reputable organizations do. It’s ok if HealthyWage isn’t right for you, but it has been life changing for so many. Best of luck to you.
Healthy Wage sent out an email inviting users to sign up for a healthy wager bet-the large individual bet, even if you had gained weight back from your last bet. They typically call this the yo-yo rule. They allowed users to sign up for the bet, collected our payments- and then cancelled anyone who had already succeeded. This is breaking their contract as well as an extremely poor business practice. Instead of responding, they have blocked everyone from their social media and sent emails that they appealed our decisions for us and there is nothing that can be done. They sat on thousand of dollars before refunding & were able to collect a lot of money in interest. This seems highly unethical- if not completely illegal.
Sorry that you feel that way. It looks like you've gotten paid more than $2,000 from HealthyWage. We cancelled your most recent challenge due to health reasons, you gained too much weight too quickly in between challenges. Our first responsibility is to make sure weight loss is healthy. You were fully refunded and may be eligible to participate again in the future after more time passes after your challenge.
It was a wonderful experience, I did the healthywage challenge I lost 67 lb and won 1721$ I bet 45$ for a year so I invest 540 total. So the net winnings were 1181 and I became slim again so It was really a good deal for me! They paid me in less than a week with PayPal. The motivation to win the extra money made me really commit to it. So it was really worth it.
If you sign in with my referral link they will add 40$ to your prize, then you can add me as friend if you want too.

I just got my payout today... PLUS, it was the motivation I needed to lose 35 pounds. I didn't care so much about winning money, but was motivated to not lose money.
I read a few of the negative reviews below, and just shook my head. Everything they complained about is clearly outlined in the FAQ section... which I read thoroughly before I signed up.
I'm $600 richer and 35 pounds lighter. Win-Win!
Enjoyed the process! Love the app. Great customer service. Prompt payment! Will try another challenge soon!
This company is a life changer! I was overweight, depressed, and my life wasnt going anywhere but downhill. Then a friend of mine reccomended HealthyWage, and I figured I'd give it a try. I lost 70lbs in 6 months and I won $1800! This company is 100% legitimate and amazing, and I can honestly say this is the BEST choice I've ever made for myself in my weight loss journey. I feel so much more alive, and I appreciate life so much more now that I'm healthy. I will definitely be doing more wagers in the future! It's not just about the weight you lose, but the life you gain!
I just finished a HealthyWage challenge and have $2600 in my pocket for doing what I needed to do for myself... get healthy! Nothing like getting paid for it.
The app was especially nice. It was motivating to log my weight weekly and be able to scroll through and see how far I'd come. And now I have extra money to buy clothes to fit my body that is 71 pounds lighter :)
Even if you meet the 6% weight loss goal you will lose your money. I am terribly disappointed. If the team did not win, I should at least have gotten my money back while my non-performing team mates (who I have never met) lost theirs.
Hi Marina, we're sorry you did not have a good experience with the team Jackpot Challenge as it can be a fun and effective way to losing weight and getting healthy. Per our FAQs (https://www.healthywage.com/faq/jackpot-challenge/), we clearly state that your team must achieve an average weight loss of 6% or more in order to win, and provide up-to-date stats in your challenge dashboard so you're able to see how your teammates are doing throughout the challenge. We also offer individual Jackpot Challenges where you're automatically a winner if you achieve a personal weight loss of 6% or more. You can view them as well as our other challenges at https://www.healthywage.com/challenges/directory.
Healthywage helped me get on the path to actually being healthy after years of my weight creeping up to the point where I was morbidly obese. I was able to win over $2000 by committing to lose 75 pounds in 8 months, although I was able to lose 100 during that time period. Healthywage kept me accountable when I did not want to share with others at the start of my weight loss journey, and it was exciting to think about how I would use my winnings at it actually became realistic towards the end. It paid out exactly how they say it would and the verification process was easy. There isn't anything bad I can say about being in much healthier place in life and having more money because of that decision.
My experience with HealthyWage was outstanding! It helped me with that extra motivation I needed. I lost 103 pounds on my bet and won $1030! I have lost 120 lbs total! I love the app and all of the data you are given to help you keep track of your weight loss, pounds to go, etc. I also love that you can connect with other users for support! I highly recommend betting on yourself! I won both financially, physically, and emotionally! If you want to see my full weight loss transformation, share recipes, and support, follow me at lauraworksitout on instagram!
I had a great experience with HealthyWage! I was on a HealthyWager challenge for over a year and had zero issues with their website or their app. I signed up to lose 60 pounds in 12 months. My payment was $75 a month. My prize was $2905 if I won. I took advantage of their "buy extra time" option. Which meant I would pay $75 a month for 6 more months. My prize would still remain $2905 if, in the end, I lost 60 pounds. It is explained in several places that when you extend your time this money is NOT being added to your prize money so I'm sad to see some of the poor ratings given to HealthyWage because a couple of people didn't carefully read the guidelines. My 2 verified video weigh-ins went off without a hitch. The confirmation that I met my goal and was a winner went off without a hitch. My prize money arrived in less than 2 weeks after I was declared a winner. All in all, I paid HealthyWage $1350. I made a profit of $1555. And I lost 60 pounds! I have nothing but praise for HealthyWage! I highly recommend their HealthyWager program and will continue to share my personal and positive experience with them to others!
Nothing like a little competition against yourself to keep you motivated! HealthyWage facilitates a fun way to help you achieve your goal. I lost 60lbs in 6 months and loved every minute of the challenge. I won $709 y'all! If your asking yourself if you really get paid. Yes, yes you do! I highly recommend signing up for a challenge and would pick HealthyWage over their "competitors". More money in your pocket if you hit your goal!
I bet $600 that I would lose 50 lbs in 8 months. When I did it, they sent me a check for $2165. That is a $1565 return on my initial investment. Where else can you make that kind of money, lose weight and create healthy habits? Nowhere!
Answer: Hi, Dana! With our individual HealthyWager challenge, your cash prize is your total investment PLUS a profit up to 300% (you will ALWAYS get a profit and not just your money back). Your profit is based on a number of factors such as your challenge details (weight loss goal, challenge length, monthly bet) along with your current height and weight. Check it out and play with the free prize calculator at www.healthywage.com/healthywager
Answer: Hi Eric, That timing is absolutely correct, assuming the Winner Confirmation form has been completed. I see that our support team told you on January 11th that you had not yet filled out that form in order for our review to be finalized. The timeline noted above applies as soon as you complete that. Thanks, Kate@ HealthyWage
Answer: Hi, Michele. Yes, you can participate in another HealthyWager (our individual weight loss challenge completely customized to you with a huge cash prize up to $10,00!), after you complete your first! In fact, many participants like to break up their weight loss goal into a few HealthyWager challenges and have found it effective and motivating for both weight loss and maintaining it. Do know that if you win a HealthyWager and start a new one, your starting weight will be your winning weight from your last HealthyWager win. For more information, visit our "Yo-Yo Rules" at https://www.healthywage.com/faq/yo-yo-rule-faqs or contact our participant support at info@healthywage.com.
Answer: Hi, Dee and that's a great question! While we give you the flexibility to choose how you want to lose the weight, we do provide support through our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthywageofficial), email and our participant dashboard that gives challengers access to our HealthyWage Coach. Our email support includes healthy tips and guidance for nutrition and exercise while our participant dashboard allows you to chat with fellow challengers and share tips, support, and encouragement!
Answer: Hi, Maria. The earliest you can weigh-out for the challenge is 2 weeks prior to your end date, even if you have met your goal early. If you meet your goal early, you'll just need to maintain or continue losing (as appropriate) until that weigh-out window opens. We want to encourage weight loss and weight management over time. Our goal is to help you get the weight off and keep it off, develop new habits, and a new lifestyle over the course of your challenge.

Answer: HealthyWage is not a scam. We've been around since 2009, have provided corporate weight loss challenges for some of the world's biggest companies (Johnson & Johnson, CVS, GE, etc.), and have paid out over $13M to winners (who lost over 785,000 pounds!) in 2019 alone. In addition, the BBB gives HealthyWage an A rating. Hi Michelle,
We generally do not allow cancelations because it’s an important part of our service we provide in helping you avoid quitting, which would be undermined if you could simply cancel. In fact, we’ve had a lot of participants tell us they’re grateful HealthyWage isn’t automatically postponing nor canceling their challenges because they’re looking forward to achieving their weight loss goal and winning their cash prize. For participants who have been affected by COVID-19, our support and accounting teams have been working with them individually. We see you contacted our accounting department, but unfortunately posted this review before giving them a chance to respond. They will be responding to you directly via your open ticket to discuss your challenge options.
