I am not accustomed to giving negative reviews in relation to my personal dealings with companies. Sadly, on this occasion, I cannot do otherwise. I need to give some background to the reasons behind this review.
I live abroad and I was contacted by my family on 09/03/25 to advise that my mother was in hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne and not expected to leave hospital due to terminal illness. I immediately organised a flight and arranged to hire a car via Carjet from Green Motion at Newcastle Airport from 11/03/25 to 25/03/25.
I collected the car on 11th March and was taken to the Green Motion off-airport location to collect the car. The staff suggested that I should take the Green Motion additional insurance at the lowest level of £20 per day which I declined. The staff were helpful and the car appeared to be in good condition with very minor marks. Green Motion reserved the sum of £1505 on my Credit card as expected, so I signed for the vehicle and took it away.
Sadly my mother passed away and I had to extend my stay in the UK for her funeral. I renewed my hire for a further 2 weeks through Carjet and returned the car to Green Motion on 25/3/25. The car was checked over and no damage found so I kept the same car for a new hire period from 25/3/25 to 07/04/25. At this point I was very pleased with the service I had received from Green Motion. I was however surprised to find that an additional £1505 had now to be reserved on my Credit card. Green Motion had now reserved £3010 on my Credit card. My mother's funeral was held and I was to return home on 07/04/25. When I returned the car to Green Motion on 07/04/05 a member of staff went and checked the car over in my absence while I was in the office dealing with the return paperwork. I never thought anything would be amiss as I was certain that I had taken good care of the vehicle. The member of staff came back and reported that there was new damage to the car.
On checking, a small scratch was visible on the nearside rear passenger door, and it looked as though the bottom of the door might also have been scraped against possibly a kerbstone. I am certain that this had not happened during my rental as the rear nearside passenger door was not used. I took some photos with my mobile phone which showed these very minor scratches. I was advised that the Green Motion photographs of the damage would be emailed to me with the damage invoice but this turned out not to be the case. I was told that the damage would require the replacement of the door panel and a respray. The total additional charge would be £632.00 My opinion was that minimal paintwork repair, or even T-Cut would have resolved the issue. Green Motion then charged my Credit card for the £632.00 which, when added to the already reserved sums took my Credit card holdings to £3732. 00 It is only this weekend 25/04/25 that the reserved deposits have been fully released.
I contacted my husband immediately after this charge for the damage and he checked online reviews. Sadly, we find many many reviews are reporting exactly this type of incident, particularly with the Newcastle Upon Tyne location.
I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend Green Motion at the Newcastle Upon Tyne location.
