Reviewers dissatisfied with Free People most frequently mention customer service, wrong item and online purchase. Free People ranks 244th among Designer Clothes sites.
Let me start by saying, I am more than willing to pay for quality. While Free People is very expensive and has items that appear very pretty, I can tell you now... it's dog crap.
You buy the clothes, take them home, and realize you could have gotten something better at Target for less than a quarter of the price. It's a shame, they should take better pride in their products. I'm shocked they have stayed in business this long.
I went online and ordered about 4 dresses and paid over a thousand dollars... they sent the items in what appeared to be trash bags, very disappointing. And when I opened them up, the products were balled up, wrinkled, and didn't look ANYTHING like what was advertised. The fabric is cheap and as for the presentation... they should be embarrassed. I returned all of the items but they told me they only received 4 of them, so I didn't even get the full refund. It was a total lie... they just wanted to keep some of the money.
Very very very bad. Would not recommend.
While I'm a huge fan of their apparel, I'm not at all crazy about their shipping service. I order from Europe and although they have a site in UK, all other European countries are served directly from USA (which also means extra taxes and customs). I ordered something on 15th August, and today, on 3rd September, the order has managed to get as far as New York. Whereas when I order from Revolve, which is also an American site, I receive my items in less than a week. Luckily, I haven't had any complaints so far and thus no need to deal with their customer service which, as I can see from the reviews, can be a nightmare.
Wow, I'm so surprised to read all the negative reviews on here! I have never had any issues with Free People that would warrant me giving them anything less than a five. I have returned plenty of items to them, and my refunds were issued on the same or next day that they received my returned item. Moreover, they recently sent me the wrong item, and I simply called them and they quickly arranged for the correct item to be sent over with 1 day express mail, and my return was accepted quickly too. I really love FP, I order a LOT of stuff online from various stores all the time, and they really have amazing customer service. I'm noticing the reviews on here tend to focus on items that were damaged, or mistakes made by customer service reps that are out of their control, and in all of the reviews I've seen here, the customers got their money back or were compensated in some way! Don't let the reviews scare you, if you ever encounter any issues with FP, do contact their customer service! Also I'm not a paid reviewer, you can read my other reviews. I really do respect Free People and appreciate their customer service!
Just like what another reviewer said, this website it ADDICTIVE. Incredible selection of clothes, jewelry, and shoes. My bank actually stopped my credit card for "irregular usage", but that's only because I ordered a LOT of clothes from Free People almost every 2 days!
Cool thing about this company: They have an iPhone app. Not sure if I like that or not... Easier access to awesome shopping vs. spending all that money.
Well, I'm a girl, and they have the BEST stuff online. The packaging they send the clothes in is very nice (pink paper macho), and this other strange thing I noticed on one item (not that I'm complaining)... It has an amazing scent. Kind of flowery and freshly cut grass. Also, about shipping, I love how this website ships internationally. Not many websites do that.
Shipping time: Not bad, but I think there's room for improvement. Then again, I have to keep in mind that they are shipping to me across continents, so it's okay.
Downside: I have large fingers (size 7.5 to 8) and I'm yet to find a ring on the website that I can actually wear. They have really pretty rings, so I do hope they consider providing a greater range of sizes on accessories.
As for the products, I like how they have new items every single time I check out the website. It's really fun to check it every day.
All in all, I guess you can say it's a legit company with great products. But as I warned in the first line, HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!
Enjoy shopping :)
Hello,
I live in marseille france i ordered the vegan leather jacket from free people, i recieved the item today with paying tax and charges to the post man for 105 euros,( i didnt mind cause i knew they were charges for items outside of EU)... Anyways, i opened the package it was the wrong coat! And i tried to look up the coat on the website but didn't find it as well!, now if i wanna return the item its gona cost me 100 euros, and if i wanna get another item 100 euros more, and to make things worse, the coat i received is only worth of wearing as a day PYJAMA today so wats the solution! Iam totally disappointed, especially living in france not US ( they should have made more care in international orders), impossible to return!
I ordered the JC Joe Lace Up Boots in June, and received 2 left boots. My replacement pair still has not shipped. This is the worst company to order from online. I have been told at least twice my boots would ship Monday. I guess my bad for not asking which Monday. Today I was told they will ship in 48 business hours, so I guess maybe next Monday they should ship. Hopefully I gut a left and a right this time since free people will only do a quality check AFTER they make a mistake. The girl today assured me this is normal. Really. You NORMALLY treat your paying customers this way. I've actually had time to win an auction on eBay and received that item along with a router from New Egg. Truly disgusted with this companies terrible service.
**UPDATE**Since I last posted this I have had nothing but the best from Free People. They offered a generous gift card for my inconvenience with my boot order. I have had a couple issues with the quality of items, and within a day they have contacted me to offer a refund, exchange, or discount to the original purchase. Their shipping times have been much better as well. Their free shipping never takes more than a week from when I place the order with them. I don't know if it was bad luck that one time, but they have been just great since,
I've been ordering clothes from this site for years. Recently, a dress arrived with a tear in it. It was actually hard to spot. They sent me a replacement before they even received the torn one.
EVERY single time I order from this website i ALWAYS get a notification 3 days later saying the item is not in stock and it's been cancelled! This has happened THREE times! Do you ever have ANYTHING in stock?! If not why is no one updating the website?!?!? ZERO stars.
I ordered a pair of boots in November that were supposed to arrive around Christmas. They didn't. They arrived in January.
When I opened the package I saw there was a hole in them! This was after I had already paid an extra 50% on top of the original price of the boots just to receive them in Italy (tax). So I call customer service where they say I'll get a pair back, so long as I return my broken pair. (This took a week of calling almost everyday to get the return in motion)
Shipping costs are all on me. So not only do I pay for a mistake THEY made, in order to send the boots back, I also had to pay AGAIN an extra 125 euros (50% again) tax to receive the boots back with no hole. UNACCEPTABLE.
I called to try to get them to pay, to which they offered (after lots of insisting) an amount that would barely even cover the costs to ship the return package out, let alone the taxes. FIRST AND LAST TIME I'M PURCHASING FROM THEM AGAIN.
His is a quest of not wanting to cooperate and not wanting to provide customer service. A typical case of bureaucracy
Why?
You send me the wrong article, which you can check in the administration
You ask me to return this article.
I got my money back for the item.
I admit it is not helpful to lose my proof of shipment.
In return I offer you a "" Standard "" shipping option.
So you transfer the shipping costs to me without tracking and pur from address to address.
I paid 19 euros for a totally wrong item BY YOU.
Standard costs are probably less.
Obviously, I had to pay a fee to send the item your way.
It would be nice if there was some kind of free carrier pigeon service, but it is also clear that the gnomes don't send parcels.
I am mega disappointed by the turn of events. Especially because an employee indicated that I could "" just "" return it and you "" Of course "" would pay the money for shipping.
If you do not pay me the costs incurred, I will take other steps and file a complaint on every complaints website.
Good advertising is fast. Bad advertising faster.
I wish I could say the products aren't worth it or poor quality but FREE PEOPLE won't even let me order! I was "influenced" and decided to purchase- within a few minutes- get an email my "account is restricted- order cancelled"
I thought maybe I put in wrong info or something - tried again- same thing! And again a month later! All my emails completely ignored so I still have no answer as to why. Now I'm in my 50's, high end shopper, with excellent credit- I order way too much without returning so I guess it's FREEPEOPLE's loss - lol
Only got a response when I tweeted them publicly- but no resolution- they said they would email me -
Not holding my breath-
Guess I'll have to buy gauzy oversized clothes somewhere else-
They take nice photos and that's where it ends. The quality of the shirt I purchased didn't look anything like the one that arrived. I paid $98 and got a cheap $10 shirt.
For people who may not realize, this company--Free People--is owned by the same people who own Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. Please stay away from these companies and especially from doing any online ordering with these companies. After decades of buying from UO, and now Free People, I am suddenly blocked from ordering from their sites, without cause or reason. I have done absolutely nothing unprofessional, wrong, or otherwise--somehow their faulty system simply blocked me, and when trying to get a reason from their customer service, I was repeatedly told they had no access to any explanations and to wait 3 days for an email response from them. That response never came. I am left baffled and angered by these people. How insanely unprofessional and unacceptable, for this company to treat a loyal and years-long customer, who has never done anything but spend thousands on their merchandise and always paid in full without incident, this way. Horrible, and they deserve to lose business over this. Order at your own risk.
I have been shopping here for over 10 years. 75% of my closet is Free People. Yes, the clothes can be overpriced, but I rarely buy anything that isn't on sale. I treat myself to full-priced items when I really "have" to have it lol. Yes, I have experienced a few "cheap" styles that fell apart after some wear or wash. If I ever have issues, my local Free People store is more than happy to return it for refund or credit and make it right, no matter when I bought it. Please pay attention to care labels. Yes, a lot of their fabrics are delicate, mostly the natural cotton, linen or cotton blend. Rayon/viscose fabrics last well and are usually easy care. The styles are so beautiful and unique.
I have ALWAYS had helpful and great customer service when I call, in fact they are consistently one of the friendliest and most helpful customer service departments I have dealt with. (Zappo's will always be my #1). If you aren't satisfied with a phone call, use their customer service address if you need to, start a paper trail. I really don't understand all the negative reviews.
One more tip - do NOT expect Free People sizing to be similar to regular size clothing. Most pieces are very oversized, and you need to order down in sizing accordingly. Always read the "Details" for sizing info, and get an idea of your best fit, it's really helpful. Also read reviews to get a true sense of how things fit other people.
I have talked to customer service a few times now so they have been unorganized and rude no apologize for the items they have sent me that was a wrong item so which it Ff fault
I returned the wrong item to them wasted my time after they sent it back after they told me to return it and everything will be taken care off so obviously not because whoever processed it did not know what the heck is going on
After that I had to waste again my time and this rude customer service kept talking over me until I had to stop her and never apologized for the wrong processing they did
Again i had to print yet another label return the item to them and hope for the best
Online FF UNORGANIZED AND RUDE customer service
Never again would I shop with them
They sent a defective item, misinformed us how to return it (Told us UPS instead of post office) so we paid shipping. Sent new dress despite asking them not to reorder and to just refund. Went to return new dress at brick and mortar store and when we got there we were informed we were already refunded and to watch for it on CC bill. Refund showed on CC bill but was minus $6 (they said because of shipping, but shipping was free over $100). Didn't worry about fighting for $6 because I was tired of dealing with them. That is until they recharged my card for the full amount $121.42 saying they never received the dress back. The store contacted them several times as did I to no avail. I disputed the charge on my CC and filed complaint with BBB. Finally, a refund appeared, again less the $6 ("for shipping" that was free) and a hold was placed on our account to keep us from ordering again (like that was going to happen). I called about the disputed amount that they were saying we owed because CC company took back payment. Three months later, issue was finally resolved. I was refunded my money (less "shipping" but I don't even care because I can't stand to have to deal with them anymore) Save your headache and don't order from them!
Purchased a sweater and followed hand wash instructions. Ruined shirt. No accountability taken. Joke.
Absolutely disgusted with this company.
Just tried to make a purchase and found my account is locked - they are telling me I failed to return an item from May 2022! In fact I returned the item with the postage label they provided! I have return confirmation from them and also klarna ( both received in June 2022). Heard nothing about this apparent problem until today - no email, no call, contact!
They also said they tried to take payment again from my card for the failed return! THAT WOULD BE THEFT and thankfully didn't get authorised!
Appalling customer service from such a large corporation. Im told my account is blocked with urbn, anthropologie and a list of others. NO PROBLEM I WOULDN'T EVER CHOOSE TO SHOP WITH YOU AGAIN!
I've always had some problems with the quality of their clothes. Though they are always really cute, they are always cheaply made.
They do NOT GUARANTEE DELIVERY. EVER. I would NEVER shop with them again unless it was in store. I had a $300 package that they sent to the wrong address, (after having it removed from their website several times) that I never got, that they refused to reimburse me for. They claimed they filed a report with UPS, ironically they didn't have a record and UPS said they never filed a report.
This is my 2nd review of this site and its even worse than the 1st Their service is beyond horrible, totally incompetent, completely discourteous, and deliberately uncooperative. For some unknown reason, they shipped my Christmas order to Mexico City instead of Albuquerque New Mexico.
I have had to contact them 6 times, that's right 6 separate phone calls, placed on hold each time of course, about the non-delivery of one single item.
I still have not received the item, they refused to give me a refund for the item they couldn't deliver to me at all let alone on time, and they told me if i disputed the charge they would block my account.
In summary, NO PRODUCT, NO REFUND AND ABSOLUTELY NO COOPERATION.
I will never try to do business with this company again and I suggest you think carefully before giving them your money for any reason whatsoever
Answer: Free People's Corporate office and Customer Service heads tie the hands of their representatives. It's awful and I wouldn't ever shop there, again. Too much hassle and disrespect to their customers. They charged me almost $500 for my order; sent an email telling me it had been delivered; it had NOT been delivered! I'd shop elsewhere. Just check all of the horrible reviews. Wish I'd done that before ordering. Good luck.
