Gross Negligence-- DO NOT RENT
December 29, 2023

DO NOT RENT from this Extra Space Storage location (or any for that matter). The units on the third floor of this facility, as well as the facility itself, are not secure and can easily be accessed by burglars without even having to break in. The "secure" front door entrance can be accessed without a code simply by shoving a thin stick between the sliding doors to trigger the motion sensor that opens the doors from the inside. On the third floor of the facility, every unit has a ~four foot gap between the top of their unit and the ceiling, which is covered only by three thin metal cross bars that do not in any way prevent someone from entering your unit. All they need is a ladder. I have photo evidence of numerous other third-floor units with obvious signs of forced entry, have filed a police report, have connected with an attorney if Extra Space continues to refuse to pay me for losses, and will continue to climb the chain of command at Extra Space Storage until they do. The worst part of this entire deal: Extra Space Storage has known for a long time that their facility is insecure and that people's units are being broken into. They have done absolutely nothing about it. They didn't notify renters on the third floor that their items may be in jeopardy or were already taken, they didn't add any security measures to secure the individual units on the third floor, and they didn't do anything to prevent illegal entrance through the front door of the building despite having ample video evidence of this occurring. The facility manager told me that she knows this has been happening and has implored corporate to allow their facility to expand employee hours to have more on-site presence, to hire additional security personnel, to upgrade the process for entrance into the building and onto the elevator, and to place additional bars across the open area atop the third floor storage units to prevent someone from being able to enter them with a ladder. Corporate's response to everything? No, it isn't in your budget and we are not willing to pay anything additional to cut into our profit margins, regardless of security issues. Extra Space Storage is guilty of gross negligence as they knowingly allowed their building and their renters' property to be accessed and burglarized without notifying anyone or doing a single thing about it. The only service that Extra Space Storage offers is to securely store your property for you in their facility, and they have utterly and disgracefully failed to do so, and they know it but refuse to do the right thing to remedy the situation. To Extra Space Storage, pay me the money you owe me to reimburse me for items lost and for the rent I paid to you to secure my property. You did not perform the single function that you claim to offer and that I paid you to perform. Myself, along with many other renters, deserve compensation given your gross negligence and the liability you assume by operating your business as you have. If you are in the same situation as I am, reach out to me and join me in the righteous fight against Extra Space Storage and yet another example of corporate greed at the cost of everyday people.

Vermin in Unit
June 3, 2023

We rented two indoor storage units for six months while moving to a new home. In the second month of our rental, we found raccoon paw prints on several boxes is the unit and reported it to the manager. At that time no damage apparent and we were told that Extra Space Storage would contact their pest control people to take care of the problem and thank us for letting them know. At the time of retrieving our items (four months later) we were notified by our moving company that several items in the rear of one 20-foot storage unit had been damaged by animal urine, feces, chewing & clawing. When the mover's delivered the damaged goods it was evident that animals had been living in our unit for some time due to the overwhelming number of bodily fluids and feces.
All items involved had to be discarded. We contacted Extra Space Storage, and they told us to file a claim. For two weeks I was given the wrong information to file a claim and then when I was finally able to file online, the insurance claim representative would not take our call. When we contacted Extra Space Storage, they told us our claim was being denied because of food in the unit. They provided a picture taken days after we left the unit with an empty small jar of decorating sugar. We told them we had no food of any kind in our unit. Our unit contained household items, some furniture and clothing. They are holding steadfast that they can deny the claim because of food in the unit. Then the district manager told us to file a claim on our homeowner's insurance (LOL). He also said that our claim would not be accepted by Extra Space Storage because damage items need to be reported at the facility and our pictures were taken at our new home when the moving company came. We wouldn't have a problem if Extra Space Storage had kept racoons from living on our stuff for months. Do not recommend and do not take the insurance offered, it's useless. We are confident we could win in small claims court, but the time and aggravation are not worth it at this time. They know we could win too. We also reported the insurance company to the state of NJ DOI.
Pictures below of filth of wet urine and climbing all over everything. Also a bite or claw mark out of an arm of my recliner and they peed all over it.

The ABSOLUTE WORST company on moral ethics, customer service and care for others' belongings!
January 2, 2023

The absolute WORST experience ever! I would give a "Negative ZERO Star" if I could, it would certainly warrant it from my experience over two years of loyal service. In short, I moved my things here in two (2) lockers from my expensive apartment close to NSU campus because I could no longer afford a 1-bedroom in Davie. I signed a contract to the monthly fee's back in 2020. This company raised its monthly rental three (3) times during COVID and recently during the recession (have the statements). Sent "Detailed" statements in the mail of the increased fees
With NO contracts to resign and NO preparing your budget to meet the new price.
I wrote to them while a struggling now graduate student at NSU, of my unemployment in early October (have the letters), and informed that I was behind but would catch up as soon as I got employment. I just knew under current national circumstances and a nearly two (2) customer they would understand. Never responded to this email (I have a copy!). Well, their greed showed me why they ignored my letter and proper communication to them.

At the end of the November, I sent another email, after getting employed as a teacher, of how I would catch my 2-month's payments up. I get a response stating my lockers went to auction that morning! Of course, being livid I had to ask for clarity if they were referring to both of my lockers, had been sold to auction. Very coldly, i received a regretfully, my materials went to auction. There was no regret what-so-ever. No one from this company sent me a letter stating this or called and left this kind of acts performed whether before or after! From work inside an ER I see and hear a lot of things, but this was beyond belief that a company would do this to an American citizen?!?!

Just like they took the time to send me a nice "DETAILED CARD OF THEIR FEES INCREASING THREE (3)X and the EFFECTIVE DATE for that", they could have done the EXACT SAME at letting me know they were getting ready to sell my grandfather's, the minister's and Bishops bible, heirlooms from our great grandmother, My nursing school supplies that are needed for further testing and masters level nursing soon, + all my gits from graduating from the toughest BSA program that exist... and the rest of my thousands of dollars of merchandise that were in the combined lockers.

I cannot believe this is an American company what-so-ever and these kind of thoughtless, coward and simply GREEDY business acts should be banned and never allowed. There was no respect for me as an individual, a professional student, a person of color and clearly not as an American. I learn a lot from all hardships, but this experience is simple. I HATE that someone ever recommended this company to me to store my personal and cherished things! HATE is a strong word I never use! However, I HATE that fact that someone recommended this company to me...and we often wonder why hard-working people lose it, go postal when cheated, stolen from, disrespected and degraded.

I hope no one ever has to suffer this kind of stress, worry, anxiety, anger and rage over someone stealing your items, that you worked hard and for many years to obtain. I hope everyone will either sell their things or better yet give to someone in need. Don't let a company like this STEAL them from You!

Tip for consumers:

Don't use this crooked "Un-American" Company!!!!!

TOTAL GREED!
May 30, 2022

What I want to say is based on my experience at the end of my contract of 5 years at my last location. However, I was a customer for 13 years between 2 different locations (Marlton, NJ & Lumberton, NJ)
I don't understand how ES decided increasing my monthly unit rent by 49%... there is ONLY one reason which that is TOTAL GREED! I spoke with several other occupants when moving out, as they were moving out also for the same reason and everyone felt the same way that ES is taking advantage of renters with these huge monthly increases, with the same sentiment how GREEDY Extra Space is being. I for one, will NEVER use your services again because of what happened here. It was totally uncalled for as I was paying double from what I started out at 5 years ago, so it wasn't like you weren't making money off of me with increases every 8-9 months. People are fed up with the way you treat your customers and have lost solid, good-paying, never -late customers because you wanted to rip people off for more money that was NOT justified in the slightest. Hope your happy ES, but you sure as hell left a real bad taste in my mouth and lots of other customers due to your TOTAL GREED!

I forgot to add in my last review that my unit was completely filthy with mice dropping everywhere. I had to wear gloves in order to move my boxes/containers out. According the the property manger, a unit next to mine, had cereal in the unit that they left abandoned and by the time they removed the renters stuff, there were mice everywhere. However, I was NEVER notified of this to have an opportunity to move my stored items to another unit.
Therefore, my boxes were invaded by mice with boxes inside contents ripped apart and of course their DROPPINGS were everywhere. It wasn't just the mice, my unit also had an overabundance of STINK BUGS everywhere including attached to boxes, containers, etc.
So, before you started raising monthly rents exorbitantly, perhaps you should have checked with the property manager about the status of the units in "Building I" near where the cereal unit had been located. It was so disgusting, I was totally sickened by it. Having to change containers from the boxes ripped apart from the mice was just one aspect of trying to move my items out that had mice droppings in the boxes, shredded paper, etc.
But all ES could think about was how to get more MONEY for the old, decrepit, run-down units/facility in Lumberton, NJ.
Let me tell you, it has seen better days and is on the down-side of a decent storage facility to rent a unit. So as you continue to lose customers due to your TOTAL GREED, you ONLY have yourselves to thank.
You should have paid me for my unit being overwhelmed with mice droppings and stink bugs everywhere. Have you ever heard of EXTERMINATORS? You need some in Lumberton because it is a total S--T hole that is falling apart at the seams and allowing all kinds of outside bugs and animals to make their home in the units! But yet, you want to RIP people off by raising the monthly rates outrageously for a deteriorating facility. Good Luck ES!
I for one, will NEVER rent from you EVER AGAIN!
And yes, I would like someone to contact me because I would like to see what you have to say in the wake of all this! But you will probably be COWARDS, and steer clear because you it may not be in the realm of what you are looking for in a review. In good conscience, I could NOT give a good review based on the aforementioned. Put yourself in my shoes and I'm sure you wouldn't have been a very happy camper either!
