Depop is Unprofessional and DESPICABLE
February 26, 2023

I warn anyone from purchasing from this despicable app. I bought a Kate Spade bag and when it arrived, I found out it was fake. The seller strategically cropped off areas of he bag and photoshopped it in such a way that it distorted the overall REAL appearance of the bag. The bag I got wasn't the leather bag that was advertised. I filed a complaint with Depop.I also provided MANY photos of the bag proving it to be a knock off. Depop sent me a message telling me that they gave the Seller a message telling them that they had 49 HOURS to prove that the bag was a fake. I waited days with no response from Depop. I had it in my head that maybe Depop just ruled in the favor of the seller since Depop was a shady site. Turns out, they ruled in my favor after MANY days. Thing is, I already threw out the bag since I thought Depop already made theri decision dsince they took so long to get back to me.
Depop sends me a message MANY DAYS later telling me I need to ship back the fake bag or return the money to the seller. How? Well they told me the seller will create a seperate listing where I as a buyer have to purchase the bag again. Do you folks see how crazy and ridiculous this is? I am a buyer who was scammed. I am in no way responsible for paying back the seller money for a fake bag I already tossed out. I literally told Depop they can do as they wish since they threatened they will "look into my account" and have it shut down. Yup, Depop sees fit that it's MY account that needs to be shut down. Not the account of someone who committed a federal crime by selling fakes online under the guise that it's a real Kate Spade. I'm the one who is the evil doer. That seller is lucky I threw out the bag and not filed a complaint with the police.
Also, the seller NEVR relisted the bag to begin with to even get a refund. So basically I'm being punished for a non compliant seller. Like I said, I attached screenshots below SHOWING that Depop has given this seller MORE than 48 hrs to respond. It is February 26,2024 and I'm dealing with this nonsense. Depop has a lot of nerve to think I am going to sit here and waste my time refreshing the BLOCKED Seller's page to see if she relisted the fake bag so I can "pay her back". Depop basically rewards criminals. Selling fakes online actually funds criminal organizations. It's a federal crime to sell fakes. Depop ruled in my favor that the bag is fake. But they want me to send the criminal seller back her fake bag(that was already discarded) so she can sell it on another platform. Despicable. I urge everyone to stay clear of this site.
Mind you, I have screenshots of this evidence. I have screenshots where I filed the complaint on Feb 8,2023.You will see the long gaps it takes them to get back to me. I filed the complaint Feb9,2023. You can clearly see they gave the seller MORE than 48 hrs to respond. In that time I threw out the bag.

A safe haven for scammers
February 19, 2023

A few months ago, I purchased an item from a seller who I'd had some back and forth with and we'd verbally agreed on the purchase via DM. Thought everything was fine. They had all 5* reviews on their profile, so I was assured I was getting the item I'd bought.

After completing the transaction, the seller then disappeared off the platform for several weeks -- I checked their profile every other day and their profile showed they hadn't even logged in -- and they didn't reply to any of my messages when I asked them for an update.

Fast forward several weeks later and I haven't received the item, so I put in a refund request with Depop. The seller then reappears out of the blue and messages me saying that they had originally dispatched the item but they were "told by the mailman" that it was returned to them because it wasn't delivered. At this point, I have many questions. How did the seller even get my address if their profile shows they haven't logged into the Depop app in weeks (did they check their emails for Depop updates, but not the Depop app itself)? Why didn't the seller log into Depop to notify me that the item returned to them undelivered weeks ago when this supposedly happened? Why is the seller describing the process of being notified of a failed delivery attempt in human terms -- as though they spoke directly to the postie who tried to deliver it (does that even happen in today's age of cards being left in the postbox and automated customer support)? Why didn't I receive a 'We Missed You' card so that redelivery could be attempted, as is usual for a case like this? In fact, I've been available the entire time to receive deliveries since I work from home, and none of my usual mail has been missed in this time period, so I was left baffled.

But whatever, I give them a polite reply and thank them for updating me on the situation, but I expressly tell them I want to go ahead with the refund as I no longer wish to complete the purchase. Frankly I find their story as to why the item didn't come my way originally to be fishy -- I don't believe they've even sent the item in the first place and the story they gave me is likely just that: a story. At this stage, I don't trust them and I no longer want to complete business with them.

And what happens next? I get a catty slew of replies from them saying they've already sent the item out a second time, that I should be grateful that they're sending the item out again and that they won't be making any money on this purchase because they're paying out of pocket for shipping costs to do a redelivery. This basically just amounts to the seller pressuring me into completing a purchase that I have already explicitly tried to cancel and get a refund on.

I was going to ask for receipts that the delivery had initially failed, but given that they turned our originally polite correspondance into a catty confrontation, I decided it was likely better not to and take it Depop's customer support to resolve instead... but my efforts were for nought and I did not receive a reply at all. The seller claimed to have resent the item but it never arrived at my door (despite the seller thrusting a supposed redelivery on me against my express wishes). And heck, the seller never even marked the item as dispatched within Depop in at least some attempt to cover their tracks.

So here I am, compaining about Depop off-site. I'm just fed up with the lack of accountability.

Note: Updated and reposted this 19th Feb 2023. This happened in August-Sept 2022 I've still never got a response from Depop on the situation. Sigh.

Tip for consumers:

If you're going for secondhand clothes, try somewhere like Vinted instead. The general community atmosphere is a lot friendlier and the sellers tend to act with more professionalism. I've had a better time with support on that platform as well.

$#*! the staff
December 9, 2022

I had this app since 2020 and have been a happy buyer. Recently, I bought a top from a girl and had paid for it. Somehow (and I suspect it was from the app) my credit card info was stolen and someone was purchasing insane amount of $$ with it. I decided to cancel my credit card and get a new one (this was weeks after I bought the Depop item and have received it) so you would think the seller would've received my money right? Nope! For whatever reason she was not paid despite me purchasing the item and the money saying it was sent through. What does DePoP do? Instead of letting me know she wasn't paid and taking my new card information, they BAN me. Completely ban as in I can no longer access the app on my phone or use my phone number to make a new account. I emailed them asking why I was banned and they accused me of "fraudulent charges" saying I was trying to scam the payment system. I suspect DePop didn't actually send the girl the money I had paid despite it clearly saying the payment went through. The staff I emailed were incredibly rude and threatening and did not help at all and quickly cut me off. The guy I was emailing with said he would give me my account back if I shared them pictures of my banking information and personal identification. Aint no way am I sending a random stranger my personal info when it has nothing to do with actually resolving the issue, the whole situation was sketchy and they are probably the reason my info was stolen the first time. I decided to make a new account using my other phone number and had owned the account for about a month before they banned that one too. Mind you I had only made the account to browse items, I never even bought anything or interacted with anyone. I emailed them asking why I was banned for no reason and guess what, they couldn't give me one! They were extremely rude and snappy towards me and just told me I was banned for "failing to comply with their terms and services". I asked them what term did I fail to comply with and they could not give me an answer. It is my American right to be able to access social media, you cannot ban someone completely from a platform without giving reason to why. They definitely stole my info, stole my payment instead of paying the girl, and then blamed me and banned me for catching on. Hate this app and its staff, hope both sides of their pillow is warm.

Fraudsters. Avoid and report them
April 14, 2022

Gave them a bad review a while back for their Horrible service. But in writing a updated one as this company will try to defraud and steal from you. Last week even though my PayPal is not connected as I'm not selling on there atm and I wouldn't sign up for depop payments as depop are not trustworthy when it comes to money, I got a notification a girl had managed to buy a item with depop payments. Of course depop had this in a hold ssying it would be release on a Tuesday originally they were told to refund her but didn't anyway on the Tuesday it said payment would be sent out to my bank next day so I decided to give it a go so I gave them my account and sort code. There is a option to add your card details which I refused as know its easier for money to be stolen this way. And all that's needed to payout is my account numbers of course I wake up tge next day and they have not sent the money and have changed the payout date to tge next day at this point I contacted my bank and explained I was worried Depop and there money holding company STRIPE would try to defraud me, my bank in chat assured me theres no way they can take money from my account with those details to which I told the bank with those details couldn't they try setting up a direct debit to take my money. The bank assured me as long as they didn't have my card details I would be safe... Then low and behold later that evening I get a email from my bank that a DIRECT DEBIT HAS BEEN SET UP BY STRIPE/DEPOP! THIS DEBIT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND BLOCKED NOW BUT SEE SO DEPOP DID TRY TO DEFRAUD ME ALSO THE PAYOUT OF THE SOLD ITEM HAS NOT BEEN SENT A DAY CHANGED TO TOMORROW... DEPOP ARE LYING FRAUDULENT THIEVES AMD I AM GOUNG TO BE REPORTING THRM TO TRADIND STANDARDS, THE OMBUDSMAN ASWELL FOR ILLEGAL PRACTICES. AVOID THIS COMPANY

Worst Customer Support Team
August 22, 2021

This app is not even worthy of me taking my time to write this comment and review my experience, but I am doing it for the people who are interested in buying anything on this app. I'll make it short. Do not buy on this app. I bought an item on here a few months ago and waited 2 weeks for my item to be delivered. Instead, it said it could not be delivered and was being returned to the sender. I contacted the app a few months ago about this and after a few messages asking me what the sellers name is and my account name, they hadn't responded since. I then had to message them again a few months later and they finally responded. I figured to wait a while for their response because I just didn't care anymore about this app. I called usps about my tracking number and they mentioned that I did not put my apartment number on the address I filed for the order but have never had this problem with other apps I made purchases on. It has always been delivered to my address despite not having my apartment number. In fact, I tried to change my address on the Depop app right after I bought my item only to find out that I was not able to add my apartment number or change my address after I bought my item so the seller just had to keep what was on the label. After trying to get a refund for my item because it couldn't be delivered, Depop instantly told me without hesitation to contact PayPal for any disputes or problems with my order and implying that "it was not their problem." I contacted the seller about my issue and although they were somewhat supportive and conversing in this problem, my money was still at stake. The item was lost in transit according to usps and the seller got all of the money I sent to them. The seller said "it goes hand-in-hand" meaning that one person had to face the loss while the other got what they wanted. I was very disappointed with the apps support and the seller could have been more helpful. So I contacted PayPal, and made my dispute about a lost item. They told me to wait 2 weeks for the seller to respond. If they hadn't, I would receive my money back. Indeed, I did receive my money back. The takeaway here is that not everyone gets lucky. I was one of the lucky ones to get my money back on an app that's built on carelessness and ignorance. Depop's stance on me wanting their help was to contact PayPal. Even though I paid directly on the app with my card, (I don't have a PayPal account) it was still considered as being paid through PayPal. Very unprofessional and unreliable of the app to do that. I left a complaint about how they don't value their customers problems and take a backseat response to buyers. "It's not my problem." I've used apps like Mercari and Poshmark and they have always been supportive of my complaints with ease and provide helpful feedback handling my situation. Don't give this app a single penny. They are not worth your money, time, or effort. If it wasn't for PayPal's buyer protection, I would have been screwed $20.

Tip for consumers:

I would not suggest anyone to use it

Stole money and banned us randomly
August 8, 2020

Sellers don't bother. Stole $100 from us and deleted our account completely with no warning. The app is rly aesthetically pleasing (however they are soo many bugs) and trendy compared to other selling apps so it seems like an attractive option. But it's not worth it! Depops customer service is ridiculous, you can only reach them by twitter or email and they don't respond to either of those. If they do respond it's an automated message that is not helpful at all. My friend and i started selling on depop and were lovin it. We got 10k followers, 200+ sales, good reviews, all within a few months. Depop randomly banned our account, logged us out, and deleted our page. This has happened to many people if you read about it. Their system is awful because not only was all of our hardwork down the drain, buyers were confused also! We had a few buyers open disputes bc they thought we were scamming them and had blocked them. We also have some items that were recently purchased that we can't ship because we can't login to print the shipping labels. I doubt depop will refund those people since they aren't responsive. It's all around terrible. First they said we had a 48 hour suspension, but then the countdown timer kept getting longer and longer. It would say wait 9 so we did and then it said 6 more. Eventually it said we had to reset our password but when we tried it said can it reset password for this email. Not only are we banned forever but it's not even clear what's happening!? We put lots of effort and money into this app and it's taken it all away. Also! They recently added a new form of payment called depop payments which is where buyers can pay with their credit card not through paypal. We allowed this setting so that we could make more sales, we made about 10 sales this way and never got the money from them. Depop said it was transferring to our bank and would take up to 10 days. We've never recieved the money and it's been months. It was over $100. We emailed their support many times about this and got nothing. Depops customer service is a joke. We have accepted that we will never get our account back. Someone please create a better platform.

Unfair Experience. Buyer vs Seller? Who does Depop get the most $ out of? The Sellers! But...
November 16, 2019

$#*!iest experience with the company
$#*!iest experience with the company with the $#*!iest customer. But honestly, I blame Depop and Paypal the most. Because I am their customer too-they took 10% of my selling products and the transaction fee, so am i not their customer too?

I sold a dress to a buyer and this buyer that previously kept asking for a discount even after I said no or didn't respond three to four times. Finally, this buyer decided to pay the lowered full price after a month. I was super consistent with the "customer service" by keep communicating and alerting her when I sent out the package and such. She decided that when she got the package, "I got the package and it fits perfect and I love it and I want to keep it. But I found two tiny holes... please give me discounts so I could stitch them". She wants those discounts so much!

I asked her to reach out to Depop so we could resolve this issue. I simply didn't want to get in trouble with her for saying, "girl, clearly you want these discounts so much and I wrote on my profile saying NO RETURN!".

To be really honest, I don't care if she found two tiny holes. I really don't believe that she needs that discount to stitch that. I wore that thing twice only and it would have have been reckless of me to make holes and not know that. I dry cleaned it too.

Long story short, Paypal, to be exact decided that they put the buyer first and give them enough time to decide if the buyer wants to keep the dress or not.

My problem here is this.
1. I don't have risk-free insurance when the item is returned 14 days after the item is returned. I don't know if this person wore it or not! I am not a rental company especially when Paypal puts "buyer-customers" as their primary customers who have the most power over the sellers
2. I needed to pay the money back to Paypal because the item is on hold and the buyer didn't even approve to send the money
3. She is not communicating with me at all but Paypal still tells me the buyer has 10days to decide if she wants to send it back while I owe Paypal a negative balance. It is not only inconvenient but unfair!
4. Depop took 10% of my sale and now, I owe them the full price including the shipping handling clost that I didn't have to pay. WT.

As a seller, I shared 10% of my selling product and Paypal still puts the buyer as their primary concern than the seller who actually makes their business. W.

Beware of DEPop they will delete your account
July 3, 2019

I Stay away from this site! Poshmark, eBay and mercari are much safer apps to buy and sell on, the staff is more supportive.
DEPop deleted my account after I purchased several item from the site. I have no way of communicating with the people I bought items from and since they have already been paid I'm sure they will not ship my item out now that DEPop deleted my account. I purchase many items on a daily basis so I have no way of knowing which transactions on paypal are the items I have not received. DEPop's response is "are decisions are final" and that " I am being punished". Deleting customers accounts as well as all the information associated with purchases made on ur app that are not complete is wrong and I believe against the law. DEPop has stolen my money but more importantly my trust in their app. I had over 50 ratings all 5 stars except for the rating from the girl that started this whole thing. All because she wants to buy back the purse she sold me!

In order for me to open a case on paypal in need the sellers name and the amount of the purchase and since u "DEPop" erased that information I can't for certain know the if I am opening a case on the correct individual. You "DEPop" also emailed me stating that you send all buyers an email with the name and address or the seller. I have never receive an email from DEPop when I purchase an item with the information of the seller in it.

I just want people to know that when they buy or sell on DEPop they need to be very careful because you never know when DEPop will "punish someone" by deleting their account for a week or two or however long DEPop sees fit. You don't warn innocent parties involved why thee account was deleted, for how long and how to proceed next. It is a very broken system that doesn't need to operate in such a manner.
That is an outright lie! You have absolutely no idea what that situation was about because it started on poshmark. Alot of our conversation was on poshmark, so DEPop only got the middle end of it. And somehow I'm the one who gets a deleted account! I have over 1,000 sales on poshmark, mercari and eBay and never has this ever happen to me. And the girl who started all this is still messaging me on poshmark begging to buy back her purse. All of this over a $20 Bag. You could clearly read the messages from that girl and how she was apologizing to me first because of her bad behavior. Yes I reacted to her harassing me on poshmark and then on DEPop by " using aggressive language " but i never threatened anyone.
But to delete all my information, all my purchases and sales. All my listings, hundreds gone all gone!
I am the one who reported her and her behavior and she ( who has more ratings and selling more on DEPop) gets away Scott free!
DEPop will lie and steal your money! No other company or selling platforms completely deletes accounts. So truely think before u make a purchase on DEPop
WILL THE PERSON I AM BUYING FROM BE ON THIS SITE TOMORROW?
