Cheating is rampant, they lie to you, and the system is designed to make you pay for everything. If you aren't at least 2000 FIDE, then Chess. Com is trash and a waste of money because everyone cheats. There are free services that offer as much or more. The engine reviews offer limited insights and are basically reciting the engine moves. They make you pay for the analysis and every game might as well be against bots. The people on chess. Com who talk to you, are extremely disrespectful and you have to report every person almost. So really it is nothing but cheaters and trash talkers who are also often times racist. That and the fact that none of the sites automatic systems really work like they should. It requires reporting frequently and then the banned accounts just get remade so nothing changes and it seems to get worse. Cheating is worse, disrespectful trash talking is worse. It makes playing online a toxic experience. Even if cheating was far less frequent, it makes it impossible to play with any good vibe in mind. It feels like you are always going to play against a cheater. To make matters worse, any for of conversation about it is strictly prohibited on the site, and they actively either employee shills or use bots on social media sites such as reddit. So that when anyone has an opinion about the bots, cheats, and disrespect... they actually have people who are on those platforms "dealing with it all," meaning they are prepared to ban players with photos of hate speech, and also negate plus lie to anyone who questions the cheating. That means they are willing to limit free speech and lie about their cheat detection capabilities. Instead of actually do anything, because they can't. They make it seem like if you pay for their services in same small way they give you game matchmaking with more vetted players who are less likely cheaters. They make you pay for their cheat detection, plus game analysis... which do nothing because nothing ever can change and it does not work. Unless someone is playing at a grandmaster level, the cheat detection does almost nothing... I know because I have experimented on multiple accounts to the extent of realizing when and how an account can be banned, and just how much cheating an account can actually get away with. Which is a lot... a lot. I did not get banned for at least 25 games using straight stockfish moves. Besides that I played for hundreds of games without being banned, by merely using weaker and random engines.
Absolutely fascist level of moderation on the forums which is insanity. They act like the cartel of chess, and their tournament coverage plus ability to plan let alone be involved with high level chess is making chess a laughingstock. They suck at it all.
1 year of premium service was a waste. Their 7 day free trial is a waste and starts an expensive subscription costing over 100 dollars. Services they provide are mostly free on other sites, and they offer limited unique or valuable qualities.
I have played hundreds of games of chess on Chess.com since I became a member in 2015. Here is my assessment of the website.
Plusses. The site is available almost one hundred percent of the time. Making moves is easy, either by dragging and dropping a piece on a square, or by clicking on a piece's source and destination squares. The appearance of the chess board and pieces can be easily customized. With millions of members online at almost any time of the day or night, an opponent can quickly be found, with filtering options, such as by an opponent's range of rating and number of games played.
Chess.com takes cheating very seriously. Games are not proctored, however, Chess.com continuously monitors and analyzes every player's move. If a player makes a series of moves consistent with a much higher skill rating than a player's past performance, his or her account could be closed for violating the fair play agreement all members are expected to honor. The cheating detection software allows for fluctuations in performance, so you do not need to worry about having your account closed because you found a brilliant move or had a single great game.
Minuses. Technical support could be better. There is a straightforward way to submit a bug report, but there is no published service level agreement, setting an expectation for how soon technical support will investigate and respond. In my experience, technical support has not responded to some bug reports a week after they were submitted. When a technical support person does respond, the response is sometimes not particularly helpful, either indicating they did not try to understand what was said in the bug report, or pushing back, telling the customer to avoid interacting with the site in a way that triggers the bug. Or the technician explains how to follow a work-around without ever implementing a fix to the bug.
For daily chess games, games allowing one to fourteen days between moves, the user can view all his or her games at one time, presented as either a list or grid view. If a user then clicks on a game, they can then make a move in that game, or click on a button to go the next game. The next game button works fine if you are waiting on all your opponents to make a move. If, however, you must make a move in one or more of your games, the next game button only takes you to the next game requiring your move. This is an undesirable behavior, and it has been occurring for years. Is there any quality control person, or someone in management, who tries to use the website like a regular user, so these kinds of issues could be discovered and fixed?
Specifically in 'Blitz' games, this site / the owners of it, have for some time now, ignored a perfectly valid suggestion, to use a STD. DEV. Estimation, of those who 'get lucky' with their opponent getting a disconnection,. Of which i suggested YEARS AGO,
But could've been used to AT LEAST act on those way above normal chances of a std. Dev. Above 1,
-of...
Both abnormal AMOUNTS, of games where there's a disconnection issue,
BUT ALSO, (always)
When the games that it happens in, happens when they're LOSING, by-score, or perhaps the site's own analytics on "blunders" and similar.
---
Personally, it's quite obvious that NOT GETTING more dissconnections, during games that're longer and you have plenty of time to re-establish your connection, is some kind of DDoS like exploit of something high-tech... people working in gov agencies, or security-intelligence companies perhaps, in their lunch hour, etc. A club perhaps, of people who've an illegal copy of something that should'n't've left the building, etc.
Whatever the reality,. NOT getting them, as i said, during games NOT-short,
Is incredibly obvious.
--------------
And as i've said, i SAID ALL THIS,
Years ago,
AND made the suggestion,
That considering all the programmers that the site must get,
( it's not rugby, is it?)
There'd probably be several dozen volunteers willing to do it just for FAIR PLAY,
On the site they goto / for personal satisfaction, even if the company couldn't pay them for doing it.
Disappointing that pityful obsessives care about the word "blitz" that much... we kicked the Nazis asses guys, get over it,.
But UNPLAYABLY persistent,
When something as simple as a std. Dev. Calc, with some clever data-extraction processing,
Could be a simple MEASUREMENT mechanism,
And probably could've made a automatic detection system for the 'lucky' ones,
Years ago.
What kind of 'professional' site, is this? Doesn't take cheating seriously?
F*** it then, im going elsewhere.
don't. go somewhere else, where people take seriously, how STUPIDLY, some, are attracted to words such as blitz, and choose something else, just so they don't attract dicks & try-hards.
just the default free account, but if i had spent money on it, and presumably not got it back, from "unprovable" claims, (how am i supposed to get THEIR data, to make a data-search correllate?) i'd be even more pissed off than i am just in terms of fair-play offense / reactivity.
To get rated as a chess player, you have to pay to join a tournament. You also might have to pay to travel and stay in a different city. You have to play a lot each day. All this trouble just to get a real FIDE ratings, but then you have a better alternative; you play online for free and get rated without spending a dime and you play at your own convenience too. Sounds great, right? So you do this, and instead you get so disappointed; players seem to be full of cheaters, ratings systems seem so iffy, and the moderators are eager to close players' accounts. You get so discouraged by the whole experience and you end it by writing a negative review and close the door behind you, but you never even knew what you were really dealing with.
Every time you went to an online chess club and offered a game, you quickly got a response from some other visitor eager to play a game, right? Wrong again! Online chess clubs such as Chess.com and Lichess.org and others are not there for the love of chess or chess players; they are there to make some money as you know. But the administrators of these websites have some serious problems running them. Visitors to the chess websites want to set games their way not someone else's way; they want to play when it is convenient for them, also visitors to these websites don't arrive at the same time in order to play. Programmers/ administrators are not chess players and cannot spend their time waiting for visitors or playing them, so they created a solution: use a group of chess addicts as ready players and moderators for the visitors.
So actually, you never even played any other visitor to these websites. You only played their so called moderators each and every time! The moderators only get to pick games offered by the visitors, but they have powers given to them by the website administrators. A moderator always get more clock time than you do as a visitor. He can cheat you by opening with a chess engine without suffering any consequences. But most importantly, a moderator can close your account. Now, if you are a talented chess player, you will get excellent rating from playing FIDE tournaments and maybe make some money too; something to feel proud of. But if you played so well on online websites against the moderators, you will only get your account shut down in a heart beat. See, moderators are losers. They play chess a lot since they are failures at life achievements. But they even suck at chess too, and when someone keeps beating them at the only vent that makes them feel intelligent, they retaliate by closing threatening accounts.
The rating system that these websites use is not the real Elo rating system used by FIDE that rate grand masters. It is the Glicko system that is riddled with problems, and as a player you must have experienced this junk system when you realized that you cannot rely on it to tell you the real strength of your opponents. But the worst part is the fact that talented chess players are quickly stopped in their track by the moderators who remain as the only permanent rated players. This is why the best online rated players by such websites do poorly when they try their luck playing real FIDE tournaments.
Now you must be wondering, tens of thousands of players logged to these websites cannot be wrong. After all, Chess.com claim that they have over a 100,000 players logged to their website at a time and Lichess have similar claims, yet you have the eerie feeling that you are playing the same people over and over. Actually, you are right this time! These numbers are totally fudged. In reality, these websites only get few visitors at a time wanting to play chess, and their games get picked up by the few website moderators who are the same cheaters you kept running into again and again. Bots are used to create the illusion of many games offered by visitors. But in the end, we get what we pay for; free online chess rating that is not worth the free bad feelings we get from it!
The first review I see is right on. The concept is GREAT. The issue is their software SUCKS and they refuse to address it. With the sophisticated software they have invested OUR MEMBERS MONEY in, every day I am playing on the site I have the same problem everyone is complaining about. It is all the time for months. With no rhyme or reason We get " frozen " or " locked out." You go to move a piece and nothing happens, nothing can movew regardless of ehat piece I click. ALL THE Time. I am on my cell and I have to go to my PC and nothing. Once in a blue moon that will work as the time keeps ticking and you opponent is getting pissed too. Then all of a sudden after hitting every piece trying to move it will all of a sudden connect for a second and a piece you have no want to move will click and mess with you as it works one minute and then does not. GOOD SPORTS huh? Then to really piss you off both computer and cell freeze up, you can"t move a piece, and they stick salt on your wound with the insulting ridiculous childish " How to be a good sport " email Crap everyone has seen. Of course their Customer Service Dept hides in their virtual world behind the Internet because of course they offer no phone number because they know how many PISSED OFF PEOPLE would be calling. I have sent Many emails back and forth with AMANDA. Try it. See the fluff. Corrective action talks and BS walks. All you get is that it is a " CONNECTIVITY ISSUE, Are you kidding me? I have been in business for over 30 years and wonder how a Company can stay in business with a review rating of 2? Con Artist evil intended People running a company would do nothing to and not care about such horrible reviews and PISSED OFF PEOPLE, do nothing to correct
Such a wide spread problem and just fix the " GLITCH " If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck, guess what? Fix the problem CHESS.COM and I will be the first to thank you and spread the word. Actions speak louder than words. Your actions CHESS.COM are a direct reflection of your disgusting reviews. So far your actions are FRAUDULENT, NEGLIGENT, IMMORAL, UNACCEPTABLE. People that read my review can fall for your SCAM if they chose. Hopefully this will either catch CHESS.COM 's attention and they will fix the glitch or help millions of people worldwide see this Co. For what it is. As a Licensed Maryland Home Improvement Contractor I would be put in JAIL if I take money and do not produce what I promise because it is considered Criminal, Felonious, and called FRAUD and EMBEZZLEMENT. The only difference here is that it is FEDERAL and INTERNATIONAL. Bernie Madoff thought he was too big and Powerful to be touched. Well, we all know what finally happened to him. He is on a long " ALL EXPENSE PAID VACATION. That is exactly where the Principles of CHESS.COM will will " Vacation " when enough people get fed up and complain to the Attorney Generals. Am I crazy or is it not stupid to allow so many complaints, so many bad reviews, and do nothing to address such a simple issue to correct as " CONNECTIVITY "? Does anyone checking them out not agree? They took Bernie down, They took Silverstein down, and that is exactly what should happen to the PRINCIPLES of CHESS.COM if they continue to think they are above the Law and untouchable. I have learned many lessons in my journey through business and life many things. With the Principles and Officers of CHESS.COM I think the most appropriate is " THE BIGGER THEY ARE, THE HARDER THE FALL ". Anyone world wide that sees my post? Let's force CHESS.COM to fix their " GLITCH " or help me " take them out ".
HEED MY WORDS . THEIR REVIEWS SPEAK WHAT I AM SAYING FROM " PERSONAL MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE
