I recently purchased a Motobecane Elite FS Hybrid bicycle from BikesDirect and am happy to report complete satisfaction with the bike and BikesDirect. The bike was shipped quickly, in a sturdy carton and arrived as it was shipped. I have recommend the website and will continue to do so.
I had bought a couple bikes online from other guys, but liked the service and special that BD gave me most.
Got a new bike over black friday weekend and am loving it!
Just got my bike. The team at BikesDirect was great, responsive. I initially worked with Chris, then Larry. They handle my support issue within a few hours. Great company, would use again.
Outstanding company! I found their website when searching for mountain bikes. I bought their Motobecane >>> http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/mountain_bikes/300ht-mountain-bikes.htm
The bike was delivered in 4 business days from Texas to San Francisco. Bike came with no blemishes, pretty much already built, no frustrations, no used parts, no disappointments and NO Unhappiness...
I had a couple of questions about the pedals. I contacted Larry. He replied within 24 hours and answered my queries. Excellent Normally Expected Experience plus the price was very reasonable considering the quality Shimano parts that came with the bike.
Thank Larry and Bikes Direct! Referrals will be forthcoming...

The old school looking website is kind of an eyesore for me at least, though I still gave them a shot and was pleasantly surprised at their efficiency and good attitude.
I just recieved my 2011 Motobecane Super Strada, sram apex group equipped road bike. This is my second bicycle purchase over 5 yrs. I don't have many miles on it yet (only 200 miles) I've had it for a week. I did change the stem for a more relaxed position due to physical limitations. No need to do any contact after purchase. Everything came as stated. No problems at all,, shifts great, ride is smooth, ready to ride after an hour after receiving it. Compared to my buddy who just purchased a Specialized Raubaix, same componets (carbon) for $2000. It is equally as good. Even bettier considering the wheel set on the Strada and just as light...
Bought my first new bike from the Guys/Gals (Boris X5) and it has been years (I'm 46) since I have had customer service this good! A real person contacted me (Larry-awesome dude) asap and once I didn't even have time to fix a cup of coffee-really! I had a minor issue that was caused by shipping and not on them and they took care of it within minutes-I am not a person to write a review-my first ever actually, but this company does business like I remember as a youngster here in the great USA and I will continue to support them! Thanks so much if any of you from "BikesDirect" reads this -YOU guys Rock!
Have not received my bike as of yet but Karla with customer service is amazing. I think she should get a raise and a company car (or bike) and her own parking space. Thank you so much!
I bought the century comp with sram apex set. Only took 3 business days to get here, free shipping and no tax btw. Came brand new from the factory. Packaged very well.
All you have to put together is:
The cable through the cable housing on top tube, attach front brake and adjust pads front and back, attach bars to stem, tighten head bolt for tension, tighten stem bolts, attach front wheel, slide seat post into seat stay, attach pedals and adjusted my reach on my sram apex shifters. Took 30minutes to build. Total build plus fit took about 45minutes - 1hr. Then pumped the tires and took it for a spin.
Noticed there was a slight scratch on my chainstay, took a pic, emailed them and they responded within the hour and refunded me $40 immediately i didnt even have to ask for the refund, they offered and of course i accepted. Communication is amazing and customer service was tops.
I have bought many bikes at dealers before. This was the first time buying a bike online.
I was a little hesitant at first but this turned out to be a great buying experience.
The bike arrived in 3 days and took very little assembly.
I did have an issue with the brakes. Turned out that the brakes installed on the bike where known to have issues(Guide R Stam) I did send an email to Larry from bikes direct and 4 days later I had a set of Shimano brakes on my doorstep.
Fantastic service. This was my first bikes direct bike but definetly not my last.
I received a most excellent bike, but it had a few chips in the paint, and the part of the frame where the derailleur hanger attaches was a little miss-molded if you will. BikesDirect.com offered to send a replacement bike, but I opted instead for a modest credit, since the issues/defects did not seem to affect the functionality of the bike, and I did not want to repackage the entire bike and send it back when it was 99% perfect. I would give them 4 stars because of the bike "issues" but because they were willing to completely replace the bike, I cannot fault them at all, as they have little control over the issues that I experienced. Additionally, the price on the bike is excellent! Thus, I have to give them 5 stars for this bike purchase. Thanks BikesDirect.com!
I wanted a road bike for under $500. I went to 3 local bicycle shops and found a total of one, and then they didn't have it in my size. I started looking on BD and found 36 road bikes under $500. Then the fun really began. I could easily see the sizing and specs on all 36 bikes, including the frame, fork, tires, rims, drive train, etc. It was easy to see how the specs changed on each price point.
When I narrowed it down to 3 bikes, I sent my questions to their excellent support staff. Each email was answered within 24 hours by Chris, who provided me excellent information and feedback and also pointed out some things that I had not considered. Again, this level of interaction was better than I ever experience at my LBS, especially when they have such and limited selection. Finally I ordered a bike and it was delivered in 4 business days. The packing was outstanding and assembly was quite easy.
I highly recommend Bikes Direct if you want a great selection, great pricing and excellent customer support. For those who still cling to the LBS mentality, I would say that you are only limiting your options. Bikes Direct is the Amazon of bicycles.
I bought an Immortal Spirt. Ordered it late Sunday night and received the bike on Friday mid-morning. Assembly was a snap. The wheels were prefectly true. Everything was in good adjustment. A few tweaks of the rear deraileur as the cables stretched. A few short tune-up rides on Friday to adjust the fit. Over a 100 miles the first week including two 30 milers. What a beautiful bike! The ride is smooth and fast. I will ride it hard over the next 30 days and make another report. So far so good.
I spent several months researching possible bikes before purchasing. I rode a couple of Canondales, a Trek, a couple of Specialize, a few others, all well over $3000. The Immortal Spirt is at least as good as anything else I tried. Like most folks I was hesitent to buy a bike I could not ride first. The price for what you get with the Immortal Spirit was just too much to pass up. GREAT DECISION! This bike easily compares with $4000+ cycles at my LBS.
BIKES DIRECT IS TOTALLY EVASIVE AND REFUSES TO ANSWER PRE-PURCHASE QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR BIKES. ALL COMMUNICATION WITH THEM MUST BE DONE BY E-MAIL-- THEY HAVE NO PHONE.
SO AFTER A POTENTIAL BUYER GOES THROUGH ALL THE TIME AND TROUBLE OF WRITING TO THEM-- WHAT DOES BIKES DIRECT SEND BACK BUT A NON-SPECIFIC CUT&PASTE FROM ONE BIKE MAGAZINE OR ANOTHER. THEY REFUSE TO ANSWER ANY DIRECT QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT THEIR BIKE SPECS MEAN AND IF YOU PRESS THEM THEY QUIT ANSWERING E-MAILS.
BIKES DIRECT IS A TRUE SET-UP FOR THE CLASSIC-BAIT & SWITCH. THE ONLY WAY TO BEAT THEIR SYSTEM IS TO BE A BIKE-SPEC EXPERT.
WITH ALL THIS SHADY-DEALING ON THE PRE-PURCHASE SIDE I CAN IMAGINE THE NIGHTMARE RIP-OFF IF A BUYER HAS COMPLAINTS.
I bought a Gravity Base camp 1.0 for my girlfriends son after searching all the major brands. I was not paying 500 to 600 bucks for an 11 year old to grow out of in a year. For $299 it has comparable components and I have to say a better frame than the 2017 Specialized Hardrock I just bought for my girlfriend. After seeing the made in china sticker on her frame I was aggravated for not going with bikes direct for her and myself also. I bought a 2016 Specialized Cambor 29er, But after seeing the frame being made in Taiwan and the lesser components by far than the Motobecane HAL 6, well I may sell the Specialized to my brother and get the HAL 6. Also the bike showed up like 2 or 3 days after ordering it.
Well developed website with good prices and variety of options. It is very informative and easy to manage. All purchases were satisfactory delivered and met my expectations.
Could not believe how fast I received my bike after I ordered it. Had a factory defect that the local bike shop easily repaired. Bikesdirect made me whole and I am completely satisfied.
I recently bought two bikes about a month apart. The first was flawless in every detail and a tremendous value, so i got another one... completely different model and type of bike. The second bike had several differences from the advertised spec sheet. Two appeared to be a model year upgrade, while the other three were clearly a downgrade and perhaps a prior year as well. A quick email resulted in an astoundingly quick reply, a change to the spec sheet and picture on the site and a $35 dollar, unexpected refund! I felt the discrepancies had a somewhat offsetting effect, due to the potentially increased performance of the newer items. I literally asked for nothing but for Bikes direct to fix their spec sheet on the site for this bike and take a new photo. All i have to say is wow. Best service i can recall in my adult life, and easily trumps the local LBS level of attention. Bikes direct is the real deal. Buy with confidence from them... oh and three days order to door at my location. Excellent in every way.
Awesome bike, quick ship. Great customer service. I had a small issue and it was taken care of in less than 24 hours. Too bad I can only give them 5 stars. Larry in customer service rocks...
I've been mountain biking for quite a few years. I wanted to get a FatBike, but really didn't want to spend top dollar on a bike I may or may not like. After a little researching I came across BikeDirect.com. My wife and myself decided to both go with the Boris X7. I have to say all the great reviews I came across regarding the quality of the bikes, the great customer service are all very true. We've had the bikes for just about a month now and these bikes are the only bikes we are riding. Our "regular" mountain bikes are just sitting in the garage. This past weekend, I noticed a gritty noise coming from my freehub body. I sent an email to BD asking them if the rear hub is compatible with Shimano or Sram free hub body thinking replacement when this free hub body fails. Their response within 15 minutes was a new freehub body is in the mail. Amazing customer service. If anyone is looking for a great bike with amazing customer service, definitely check out Bike Direct.
Answer: I would recommend that you think about a hybrid bike first, as the tires are larger & the 26 inch wheels are a bit stronger. Also, you will be more comfortable riding on an upright position. If you like it, use it to loose weight while saving for a decent road bike.
Answer: Hi - the bike depends upon the type of riding you want to do and what you want out of riding. Do you want comfort? Durability? Speed? More upright riding position? Definitely want to look at bikes with larger tires as they would be more comfortable. The CycleCross type bikes are fast but have a bit larger tires for more durability and comfort than a skinny tire road bike. Check out the OmniStrada which have knobbier and larger tires than the regular cross bikes. They also have top tech tubeless compatible rims which you can easily convert with sealant and kit to being virtually flat free :) Check them out: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/cross_bikes.htm
Answer: No. The bike should come ready to ride.
Answer: I ordered after hours on Wednesday night, recived confirmation of payment via PayPal instantly. Email receipt received Friday morning.
