I have practically grown beside AP having been a member for almost a decade and I am certain that I will continue to grow beside it for at least another.
AllPoetry offers an easily accessible outlet indiscriminately to pre-teens and elders alike without forcing payments in exchange (which is the fundamental reason I am happy to pay for a membership where able). AP's terms and conditions do not prevent you from publishing your work elsewhere, nor do they retain any rights over your content other than to publish it on their site- this is increasingly difficult to come by lately and something I vehemently appreciate. The site creates a safe place for people looking to explore, grow and share through their writing and has an excellent community should you take the time to engage with them. The only thing I feel is missing is a block user feature should any unwanted confrontation or attention occur, though I have yet to experience this.
Please take care to identify the difference between a disgruntled individual and an objective, honest review.
Sincerely,
Arsenic.
Will support Pornographic Materials for Minors, Take Your Money, Then Ban Those That Tell Other Users To Mark Their Inappropriate Graphic Materials to Minors and Kick Them Off Versus Getting All Sides or Investigate. Threatens those who write about Christian Beliefs and is Operating Out of The United States. Owner Kevin Watt will not return emails to any rebuttal thus ridding due process using We have the right to refuse anyone.
Really Ridiculous.
AVOID THIS SITE AND ITS PERVERTED STAFF!
Truly dreadful site. I've been a member for almost four years, and up until recently thought it was an innocent writing platform, one where I could share thoughts and possibly make some friends. FALSE.
AVOID THIS SITE AND ITS UNTRUSTWORTHY STAFF. It has been pointed out to me that the administrators and owner befriend people to gain access to other online platforms, where they obtain information and begin to troll and gaslight the members for entertainment purposes only. Others are leaving the site due to this becoming more and more clear to the regular users. As for the plagiarism that goes on, I will be contacting online law enforcement agencies.
Yikes! If you experience a moderator doing anything inappropriate, please let us know on the site via gear icon -> contact us. We've never had any reported issues of moderators trolling like you describe in the 18 years we've been around, but I'd love more details on the site to investigate. Plagiarism is rare but we take it very seriously and should also be brought to our attention please.
This is an excellent site! Been on Allpoetry for 11 years now. I love the new layout of it! Very easy to navigate and a lot more modern of a look now... which looks great!
Several months ago, I joined All Poetry. Since joining, I have thoroughly enjoyed nearly every moment. Of course, there have been a couple times where I felt minor frustration during site upgrades, but once adjusted to it, the upgrades have improved the experience.
The people on the site, for the most part are really amazing. If you take the time to read some of the poets work you would be pleasantly surprised to say the least.
Although, as with any site, their are a few 'bad apples' it seems to me that Kevin cares what is going on and does his best to operate a 'safe place' to express yourself.
I do believe that if you don't have anything nice to say (or at least, constructive) then maybe you should just keep your mouth shut and move on; obviously, not everyone agrees with the theory.
I have learned so much, and feel that I have grown as a poet in the months since I joined. All Poetry offer great courses as well as a variety of contests... You can join groups and make new friends... I would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone who needs a creative outlet. *****I added this because I saw a post below that claims Kevin, the owner of All Poetry is bribing people to come on here and give a positive review. That is absolutely NOT true. My review is my own thoughts and words and I received NOTHING for posting it. It is a shame that so many trouble makers are trying to ruin the reputation of a fine place to write poetry. I could not just ignore the comment*****
I'm on AP since 2 years now and I didn't find it that fascinating. This site has surely gained popularity, has few of good poets on the site who may give you a right feedback on your poetry. But, the poet's community focuses on rather social-siting, chatting instead of discussions based on poetry. You don't usually get many comments/ feedback on your poems if you're not involved in the community's socialism. You gotta go and talk to people, get friends and chill to gain only buttery and nice comments for your poems. Also, not all contests conducted here do the justice. There are few people who conduct a contest, some same people enter and win the trophies even if there are lots of pieces being far more better and professional than these. Also, these days, the site is grown up in a dating site, people instead of poems, have more of proposing, loving and cheesy stuffs going on there...
So, all in on, I recommend you to stay away from this site, it might get you addicted too soon as a social site and also, make your time's loss, as I've experienced sometimes... I hope this helps to those who think to join.
"You don't usually get many comments/ feedback on your poems if you're not involved" - this is a site for poets to give each other feedback, so yes when you interact more, you'll certainly get more comments. One of the best places for this is the "trade comments" tab on the front page.
Allpoetry has been my home for posting poetry for 14 years this August. I was a little surprised at some of the reviews, because in all those years, I have rarely had an issue. Once when I did encounter a person with a grudge who was attempting to harass me, the issue was taken care of promptly. I have not experienced any issues with plagiarism on AP as I have on prior sites. Kevin (the owner) has always been kind and supportive to the members, even when he faced a lot of backlash when making ANY changes to the site. People don't like change and they tend to believe they can speak rude when they have to face changes because some are paying members. As far as the cost being extreme, I totally disagree. I feel the price is well worth what we get, not to mention, he runs specials frequently. You are able to use the site free of charge if you choose to do so. AP has given me a place to post my work with no issues as well as enabled me to make lifelong friendships in the process. The mods as well as the owner Kevin in my experience have been kind, helpful and professional. I plan to be there as long as I am still kicking :) If you would like a place to showcase your work, meet other poets and exchange comments and grow from the experience, visit Allpoetry and form your own opinion. Hope to see you there!
Been on this site for almost ten years. We've yet to be offered a phoney anthology,
Prizes or a trip, convocation, in Disneyland like some wannabee literary sites offer
Members, preying upon the sensibilities of their members.
There have been serious problems at times, other times laughable.
Management has a queue of assistants who will address any problems that arise in a timely fashion.
SEE YOU AROUND THE INKWELL!
Not only this site uses poetry as a way to hide the pay to post policies but in many ways scams newcomers and bullies those who question the owner's policies
Hmm, we certainly don't have a "pay to post" policy - we're proud to offer all the important features (adding poems, commenting on each other, entering contests, etc) on the free membership, and the vast majority of our members are using the free membership. We welcome discussion of the community rules in our forum for this purpose.
Allpoetry is not a site for people who wish to write and read poetry. It is a site for people to connect socially, with poetry as a backdrop. It has several cliques, and if you have an issue with one person you quickly find the whole clique turns on you. It is heavily populated with stalkers and people who want who knows what kind of relationship. Certainly not one based on poetry. Many sexual predators inhabit this site (male and female), as was directly witnessed by both my partner and myself. Naked pictures were received via their internal messaging system, and a link to a pornography website left in the comment field on one of my poems. The answer given by moderators is to place an "ignore" on these people, but they have so many aliases and fake IDs it is impossible to keep them away. At the time of leaving I had almost 80 IDs on my "Ignore list". The site and the people on there have gone a very long way to contributing to my total abandonment of poetry. The only redeeming thing about this site is that it does not operate a censorship policy on poems posted, but gives the user the opportunity to filter out adult material which they may find offensive, without interfering with the creativity of writers. Maybe the issue is not with the site itself, but with the people attracted to use it to ends other than poetry. Either way I can say it is a very unpleasant place to be.
Wow! I can guarantee that anyone sending inappropriate pictures would get an immediate ban. Please definitely report that to our moderators, we take it very seriously. For obvious reasons, messages are kept private until a report is made, so we can't know about it if it isn't reported. We do often suggest the ignore list as a "first step" for people that you don't agree with, but definitely take action on more serious things like you are describing.
Cliques and the small group systems - this is hard to deal with unfortunately, but I do understand it can be a problem sometimes. If a bad situation arises in a group, people involved in the group (sometimes without all the information) take a side and people can feel ostracized from that. This happens in ANY group scenario though - college friend groups, poetry ready groups, etc. Nagitating social situations gets complex sometimes :( Our moderators only take action based on complaints, so please do use the gear icon -> contact us if you think people are going to far and want us to take a look and see if any rules have been violated. I wish you luck in your poetry for the future!
I've been with AP for a few years and I'm only just now coming across reviews. After reading a few, it's pretty clear its a good representative cross section of our current society. Some people appreciative of what they have, and then those that feel they're owed something more. You know, the ones that think it's their right to be rude and then can't believe when they're dumped. The PC responses given to some of these are far better than they deserve. I teach my young son that there's never a reason to be rude, but unfortunately he's witnessed how flawed I am when confronted with rude people. Don't like something? Your reaction to it speaks volumes to your character and maturity. For example, I happen to be a minority that has learned that we are offended by what we CHOOSE to be offended by. I simply choose NOT to be offended. That denies the offender their cheap victory. Don't like Allpoetry? Fine, there's dozens of other sites. But rude people will search for that "perfect" site. The one that allows them to be judge AND jury. You know why we have thousands of religions today? Because as soon as we heard something we didn't like, we started a new religion. So my advice to the rude people? If you DO find the perfect poetry site, do that site a huge favor and don't join. That's the only hope they have at STAYING perfect.
Thanks! The only people to find this page are looking to complain, the 50,000+ happy customers don't see it as we don't advertise it anywhere on the site.
I must say that I am rather shocked at some of the outrageous criticism I see here. Allpoetry is a great place to post your poetry and to receive comments. It is, in fact, a great deal of fun. Are there jerks as members? Yes, there are some, guess what, just like real life! There are also wonderful, kind and helpful folks as well, guess what, just like real life. Also, surprise, surprise, there is NO such thing as a perfect web site for poetry. And, surprise, surprise, there is NOTHING perfect in this life. Allpoetry is fine and fun. I have been a member for close to 10 years. I've had occasional, although rare problems with people, however, the ability to "ignore" and "block" them solves most issues. Yes, I have found plagiarism on the site, though rarely—it is never condoned. I would contact the poet and tell him/her that I knew they did not write that poem. If they refused to removed it I would contact the folks at AP and the offender would be removed from Allpoetry. So it IS an excellent site, not perfect, but if you are looking for perfection you are NOT going to find it on this side of death. I would encourage anyone to join the site. It is, indeed, fun.
I first started writing on Allpoetry in 2012. I enjoyed writing and interacting with what I thought were decent people. I tried to keep my real identity secret on advice of a few who seemed safe to talk with. It was not deception, just all about safety as my subsequent experience has confirmed. I made a mistake of trusting and of course have been betrayed. What I didn't expect was to be stalked and harassed off line by these people who claim to be professionals on line - therapists, armed forces personnel, human resources, nurses, IT specialists, lecturers, journalists, and those who own publishing companies. I have been hacked twice within a year, causing considerable destruction in my personal and professional life. The site itself is a great concept and there are many creative minds. I always found the site owner helpful and responsive. Not so with the moderators who are usually friends with those who stalk. I would like the owner to stop allowing the use of multi IDs and monitor IMs carefully. Interestingly enough, I did return to AllPoetry as a male for a short time (I did tell a mod I would do this, given all the problems I had from a certain group) and had an entirely different experience, with women fawning over me in droves, but at no time did I encourage or be inappropriate, despite them being highly inappropriate ! Sadly I will never use AllPoetry again while the core psychopaths remain. These bad seeds joined around 2008 and 2009 who really do not like newbies and exercise superiority over everyone.
Given that you say you "found the site owner helpful and responsive" this seems like an unnecessarily harsh review. Monitoring user messages has a very high privacy cost (not to mention labor), so we only do it when there is a complaint. It's not possible that you were hacked "through" allpoetry, though perhaps you gave someone additional information through messages that allowed them to hack you (i. E. your password or answers to common security questions).
I'm very sorry you had experiences with people who were not who they claimed to be. It seems you also did this when pretending to be a man on the site. We do have some rules against multiple accounts, but try to only take action when complaints are made - we've found in experience that this works best to create happy users.
Thanks for the feedback, and I hope you'll reconsider and try us again sometime soon.
I have mental health problems and I cannot afford to pay for therapy. AllPoetry gave me a space to express myself even though I can sound harsh and loud from time to time. I am beginning to see a lot of other individuals in the community with similar mental health problems as well and in the past I wasted a massive amount of time and emotional energy allowing myself to get caught up in the worlds and opinions of others. Sometimes I have to take a step back from the computer because my mental illness gets mixed up with others who have mental illness as well. Its been my experience that AllPoetry is doing to best they can to assist those with mental illness while allowing them a safe space to express themselves within reason. I see many licensed and accredited doctors and therapists on AllPoetry creating hope for afflicted individuals with their creative writings. In fact, I've had a few doctors and therapists reach out to me along with a few unaccredited individuals who reached out to me because they care. I mean, Allpoetry can seem strange sometimes and its not often that I come across something that offends me but, I believe the Allpoetry team and community of poets are doing their best to be fair while maintaining peace and a degree of kindness.
Allpoetry helped me get the ugly out of me when I had nowhere else to go and no one to talk to... When no one else would see me, Allpoetry sow me... And even though I had my bad moments and mental breakdowns, AllPoetry showed me love... I mean, Allpoetry helped me grow up in ways that I don't think was possible... Like finding god... I believe in what AllPoetry is doing for the world.
Allpoetry seems to condone cyber bullying from my experience.
If a member/ poet privately messages another member/poet with the intention to discredit and spread rumours regarding someone they dislike, this is taken as "just the truth", whereas contradictory statements are made, in defending the poet who sent the messages.
I blocked and banned such a poetess and as she had not blocked me, she was seen as innocent, although what she had been saying had gotten back to my ears through friends.
They have these functions to protect yourself and then bring it up against you, when you use them.
For the young, budding poets, there are not adequate safeguards to protect them from sexual predators on the site.
Adult poems are not moderated adequately enough.
Also, if you lodge a complaint against someone with sexual harassment, especially with gold membership, they tell you not much can be done.
There also seems to be a timeline of reporting matters. This site has drained me so much I deleted it.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with a user.
Membership status doesn't change moderation - we aim to give all members (free & paid) the same great service.
Young poets - on all social sites, below a certain age, parents should have frequent or constant supervision over their activities - we can't moderate at the level required for this. We DO take unsolicited advances towards people very seriously & that is not allowed, but we also only moderate upon user complaints, so not all posts are approved before being shown, like would be appropriate for a site targeted specifically at children (that would take a lot of man hours and money unfortunately!)
I have been a member of Allpoetry for about 5 years. Although I am not overly active, I can say that I have never personally witnessed bully or racism as some people have stated. I am not saying it does not happen but it is clearly a rarity to see and knowing how much passionate effort is put into running the site by Kevin it would be dealt with fairly and promptly. No matter where you go, there will always be angry keyboard warriors. Those people are not likely to last very long at Allpoetry.
The large community are all very friendly and constructive. Most people are willing to help you improve your writing if you ask for help on the basics or an in depth critique of your work. Every level of poet is made to feel welcome and there is no sales pitch to pressure you into a subscription.
I have experience many poetry websites and this one sits proudly on top of the ranking by a long way. Well done to Kevin and his admin for maintaining a broad based, consistently high quality website.

This is a horrible website to write any poetry! Some members are scammed sometimes, as the owner uses demeaning ways against any of the people who would not want to pay. SHEESH! Silver membership's $6, but then gold membership is actually MORE than TWO times silver's: $15! Gosh... TOO EXPENSIVE! A site supervisor could also BAN people JUST who are against other members of it too!
"Points" you get from commenting or winning contests, and can be used to reward other poets or host a contest yourself. Memberships are separate yes. I believe this user was banned for plagarism (plagarism is very rare on our site) and were upset about it so posted this negative review.
NEVER EVER JOIN THIS GROUP OF FRAUDS AND EVIL PEOPLE! CHRISTIANS BEWARE THEY PUT ON ACTS AND EVEN STEAL YOUR IDENITY AND YOU CANNOT TRUST THE OWNER EVER. THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY THEN SCREW YOU OVER AND WON'T REFUND IT ALSO THE FEDS ARE NOW LOOKING INTO THIS SIGHT. STAY AWAY NO ONE IS HONEST ON THIS SIGHT AND THEY WILL MESS WITH YOUR MIND AND YOUR POETRY. I HAVE BEEN THERE 2 YEARS TO LONG NO MORE I AM THROUGH WITH THIS SCAM SITE ESPECIALLY THE OWNER KEVIN WATT WHO RIPS YOU OFF YOUR MONEY READ THE CONTRACT CLOSELY IF YOU STILL WANT TO GO THERE BUT YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Been off and on member for years, for the most part, i enjoy being able to leave my poetry not hassled to "donate" like say wiki sometimes, can share and find encouragement *******@yahoo.com
Thanks for being a part of the site, Bruce! We appreciate you :)
I had given up on writing poetry or entertaining the idea that otheres might enjoy what I have to say. Since I joined in March (This is August) I have written over 300 poems and abot 1/4 of them have recieved awards about 50% if you count honorable mentions. I'm a recluse and since Covid 19 (It's fashionable now) I would have gone insane without this wonderful site. I can't afford the membership sometimes, But I'm treated wonderfully as a free member and have a place and ideas with which to create

This user left this review only 2 hours after sending an email. She was unfortunately harassing via instant message other users with questionable images, rather than notifying moderators to take a look, which is our policy. She refused our request to notify us instead and continued to contact people directly, and eventually got a brief 3 day ban for this. Things have since been going well.
