I am extremely disappointed with the handling of our 7-night all-inclusive booking in the Maldives through Agoda. We booked well in advance, with non-refundable flights, and are travelling with a 6-month-old baby in December.
When we contacted the resort to arrange transfers, we were informed that our booking couldn't be guaranteed due to incorrect rates advertised by Agoda. Despite reaching out to Agoda, they have not provided any resolution. They refused to honour the original price or offer alternative accommodation in the Maldives.
As we are travelling during peak season, finding alternative accommodations is not an option due to skyrocketing prices, which is why we booked early. Now, we are left with confirmed flights but no accommodation.
This situation reflects extremely poorly on Agoda's professionalism and reliability. We trusted their platform for a smooth booking experience, and they have completely failed to deliver.
Most of the rooms I searched on that website were really cheap, and after booking I quickly saw the reason why. They offer no way of getting a refund, and are more likely to protect the owner of the property than the booking customer. Only solution I was offered for my problems was to contact the property owner themselves. Rooms were often horrible, with limited air-conditioning, terrible air quality (woke up almost every night coughing with a sore throat), limited wifi, disconnected power sockets, and disgustingly smelly and dirty bathrooms with leaking pipes.
Edit: contacted their customer service multiple times, and every time they said that my booking is not refundable, and the only option offered was a room change. They're much more willing to support the hotel owners than their actual customers. Definitely wouldn't recommend.
Very bad experience, with family after reaching hotel at 11 pm, hotel front desk says no booking, booking is not valid.we travelled after booking confirmation...in midnight with family with rented vehicle.and that too in summer season season...we tried other hotels booking not succeeded...totally Agoda spoiled vacation...please don't book through Agoda.
Warning!
If going to Amsterdam, be aware that Agoda will charge you the tourist taxes even if they should not as you will also need to pay that part directly to the hotel separately. Then it is impossible to get hold of anyone at Agoda and they don't reply.
Obscenely long notice requirement for cancellation (nine days!).
But don't worry! They'll send you an email at 12:30 AM telling you that you have until 4:30 AM to get "Agoda Bucks" in lieu of a full refund. Do not give these clowns money.
Charged me twice for a booking and refused to refund one of the bookings. Tried contacting customer service but we're openly rude and didn't care. Ended up paying over 1000 for a room I never used. Just really disappointed
Agoda.com has assisted me in all of my trip booking for local and international. It has provided me a way to ensure that wherever I go, I already have a secured accommodation with hassle free transactions.
After I booked a Maine hotel for 4 nights with a price $30 less than Priceline had, I checked the reviews of Agoda. They were awful! Oh no! But it helped that I have booked this hotel many times previously for a very good price through Priceline so I knew they offered second party sites at a low price. I then double checked through the hotel's brand to make sure the booking was legit. It was, I was happy, it's worth a try!
Extremely EZ booking process that saved me a TON of money, while still staying in good quality lodging. My brother has used this organization to book top flight hotels at virtually negligible cost overseas. I look forward to seeing this for myself soon and will report back.
I have used agoda on many trips through SE Asia and whenever there was a problem or change in booking they were able to resolve or correct within hours, with the exception of only once. Highly recommend,
Just booked a hotel in Hong Kong, not available in most travel booking sites. Got the best rate and I know I can trust Agoda. Have been using it for 6 years now.
Only downside is the point expiration :(
I booked 4 nights in Maui at a condo using Agoda. Upon arrival at the hotel on July 26, we discovered the hotel did not have AC (this is Hawaii in July). We asked the receptionist if this was common throughout the islands, and she said it was not and that most hotels here do have AC.
I contacted Agoda to ask for a refund, and they said they would get back to me in 24 hours which was not helpful because I needed a place to sleep that night and it was already 5 pm. Regardless, I did not stay at that hotel and I used Agoda to book a new hotel with AC for that night.
The next day on the 27th (after already paying for and staying at another hotel), I received a response from Agoda saying I would not be refunded. I NEVER STAYED AT THE HOTEL and I even booked a new hotel using their service.
Worst customer service experience. Very slow response via email. People in charge of booking changes go home early so urgent matters can not be dealt with during the afternoon.
Please be aware of Agoda Reservation Guarantee. It's only a refund of original booking. Book at your own risk. There is no customer protection whatever.
1. I booked a difficult to get to property in Italy and at arrival host refused entry. Host agreed to cancel and refund my booking and said "I will pay for your replacement hotel". Here we are on top of a mountain, no internet, with kids, getting late. Local Agoda customer service told that they will cover up to half of original booking. No other property was offered. I had to drive down from the mountain to nearby town with Internet and do myself last minute booking of a hotel over 2 hours drive away. We arrived there after 11pm stressed and tired.
Making post-trip calls to Agoda customer service resulted in two bookings price difference refund. (If replacement booking cost less I would get nothing). That is all. Non of previous promises were honored.
2. Another booking I made on Agoda was charged in US dollars. When I've got Invoice in the hotel the room rate was in Euro and ~$35 less including currency conversion rate (~10%). This difference is what you pay for the 3rd party booking service.
3. Another thing I noticed is booking price increase the moment I tried to book a stay.
4. Few years ago there was a healthy competition between Booking and Agoda. No longer. It's the same holding now. Existence of Agoda is questionable.
Just a bad company, do yourself a favor and avoid them at all costs...Their motto should be we "obfuscate" - to make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand - so you don't have to.
This is the email I sent to them when they asked why I disputed their canceling fees on a recent trip to Africa.
Hello Agoda and yes I have disputed the charges as they were malicious and unjust. I created four reservations on the same day understanding that two of them would be canceled. When I logged back in in an attempt to cancel the two we had chosen to let past we ran into one issue after the other. All the cancelation dates were different on each of the reservations even though the reservations were made only minutes apart. When we attempted to cancel anyway we kept getting referred back to the policy saying we were in a penalty period as issued by the hotel...despite again, they mirroring reservation said it was OK to cancel without penalty.
When attempting to reach an agent through the chat, email or God help me, the phone...all I got was "sorry your session has been interrupted, sorry for the technical difficulties, sorry there are no agents available to assist you, sorry this is the best we can do, we're keeping $200+"
I eventually reached out to the hotel directly they said they had no issue whatsoever canceling it but they could not as it was made by you a third party and it must go though you.
In my opinion Agoda is an utter scam and an absolute failure and my reviews on every website I can find will illustrate that. Apparently there is a history of this practice considering Citi reversed the charges and did not even ask for any of the dozens of supporting screen shots and documents that I have to support the case.
I regret ever using your service and rest assured will never again.
Hello, I booked a hotel in Maryland, U.S.A through Agoda and even though I provided Agoda with a email from the hotel saying that they agreed to a cancellation, Agoda claimed they couldn't get ahold of the hotel via phone or email. Unfortunatey, the hotel's phone line has been down for a week but they directly emailed Agoda's customer service department, with me in cc, saying that the rooms were cancelled. I have reported Agoda to the Better Business Bureau in the U.S. and claimed a fraudulent expense on my credit card. I'm hoping this message will save you some time. The discount wasn't worth it.
Never do booking woth agoda it is a fraud site.i did booking for hotel airport hotel grand did online payment and on 27 August 2024 when I reached at the hotel they denied my booking and check.in.and there i had to pay them.again.still they haven't paid me back...so never do booking with agoda.this is my experience..
Never book with agoda again!
I did two bookings with agoda, the first one had additional cost for parking( not big amount but it was written that is included in booking price) and hidden costs that you can't see until final page( I chose accommodation, then pressed on booking where after one click redirected my to final booking page where all hidden costs are visible)
The second booking I did the same, thinking that it's going to be same process like first time, but no, this time it was only one click to complete the booking.
When I realised I booked accidentally (wanted to see final price), I did cancellation not realising that is not refundable.
They didn't have consideration for my mistake (because their hidden costs and changes in booking system), and I didn't even got chance to regain my booking since it can't be refunded.
Never again anything with them, report them to consumers agency!
So I was charged for two nights in New Orleans. I called the hotel - no reservation. I called Agoda - no reservation. However, I was charged. I had to dispute them with my credit card company. Absolutely awful company who steals.
I booked a flight ticket thru Agoda at 8.50 am this morning (01. 08. 22)... Amount was paid thru my credit card and I got payment confirmation from bank as well as booking confirmation from Agoda (no *******) with airline reference no. When trying to reserve seat on airline website, by entering the airline reference no given by Agoda, an earlier used ticket of a completed journey pops up (ridiculous, isn't it)... They have sent another email saying booking is not done... We've wasted so much time on this, booking is not done and they've been asking us to wait... We're elderly people and are quite traumatised mentally and physically with their careless attitude. I can't even make another booking because they say that they will not refund money if ticket gets confirmed thru their site (haven't got confirmation till 10.50 pm). I'm quite flustered and helpless despite more than half a dozen calls with Agoda staff who keep quoting their rules and one sided policies.
Answer: I didn't know that? I have had the best deals from them and I find them very helpful.
Answer: I don't bother making lists just search for where I am going and select the best deal for at least 1 mth before its needed and keep track of prices
Answer: You maybtry the resort website http://thecliffresort.com.vn and check the payment method. I got a better rate thru agoda, so did not contact the resort directly. The photos in agoda and resort web truly reflect the rooms and facility. http://thecliffresort.com.vn
Answer: For me as well very bad experience with this site. The administrator failed to confirm my booking in the evening, claiming they could not see it in their system and stating that the reserved room was unavailable, despite all the correct booking information being provided. Instead, they offered me a different room. At 10 PM on December 31st, traveling with a child, I had no choice but to agree and pay again for the alternative room. I immediately reported the issue to Agoda for assistance. The room we were given was in an unacceptable condition: it was dirty, there were holes in the bathroom walls, and mold was visible. It was nowhere near the standard described in the booking. The following morning, a different administrator located my original booking and refunded the payment for the additional room. However, they falsely claimed that I had stayed in the room I originally booked. This is not true—the room I stayed in differed significantly from the description and photos provided at the time of booking. Despite providing all necessary evidence, Agoda has refused to support my complaint, stating that the hotel confirmed my booking, which does not address the poor service, the forced additional payment, or the unacceptable condition of the room. This experience demonstrates an appalling lack of customer care from both the hotel and Agoda. As a customer, I feel my rights were ignored, and no proper resolution was provided. I expect Agoda to take accountability and address this issue properly, as this level of service is completely unacceptable.
Answer: Well, you probably need to call the customer service online or send them email from Agoda to get a reply. I feel that it was in vain to look for any help or compensation once your reservation has been done. Even the you overlooked some tricky information, Agoda will completely ignore what you said and push the blame to the hotel/property or the users. That is how I feel after trying so sort our the issue. Once a mistake is made, we probably can only eat it. Never expect they will admit any misinformation on line.
Agoda has a rating of 2.3 stars from 4,429 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Agoda most frequently mention customer service, credit card and hotel room. Agoda ranks 388th among Hotels sites.
